I cleaned the sensor next to the kitchen sink. I used mass airflow cleaner and left the component on the drainer. My daughter, later, came into the kitchen, saw the component and thought it was a dirty part of a food mixer. She put the sensor into the automatic dish washer. The next morning I found it, double cleaned, I wasn't very happy, but put it back into the car. It worked well. Never leave anything around with other people in the house.
Thanks for the good instruction video. After 222198 km my Prius1 start for 20 seconds and than shut down. I cleaned the mass air flow sensor and the throttle body housing in it runs like a new one. Thanks a lot !
U should not touch that thin wire. Just clean it with spray and let dry that its own. Keep 30 min do not put into ur car. After 30 min u can again install that.
Screws on Toyota cars that are made by Toyota do not use Phillips screws , they use JIS standed screws and need JIS screwdrivers to undo and tighten them or you risk damaging the screw head , if you do not have a JIS screwdriver use the the one provided in the toolkit in the boot of the car .
You keep pointing to the wire with the bulb on the top of it. That wire is not the MAF sensor it's the IAT. ALSO spraying carb cleaner on a MAF will melt the plastic cover on the wires and resistors - TERRIBLE VIDEO
Good video, very educating. Problem of taking the sensor off the connector, strength of fingers do not work. Use a rubber hammer and small straight screwdriver to chip it off, very softly. Once it was off, replacing by a new unit would be very easy.
I have a 2000 Toyota Camry. I just got it. It drove beautiful when I 1st got it 6 days ago. The motor was so quiet you couldn't even hear it running. Now, 3 days ago it started shaking real bad, staling, making a pinging noise, and the breaks are stiff. It's had to push them down. The oil and tran fluid look great and are full. I'm going to clean the sensor today and change spark plugs. It's not over hearing either. What do you think could be the problem? Also, put a new battery last night. Thank you in advance😊
You do not use carb cleaner on that sensor nor do you touch the wires. Unless of course you are made of money and have the $400 bucks to spend on a new one.
Victoria Olsgard.....I’ve ONLY used carb cleaner for 20 years ish on those things and never once had an issue with it!! I’ve even used brake cleaner on the occasion and still never had an issue with it.
Hei, I know the best is Sensor Cleaner but its hard to find from Finland. Is it ok to use Contact Cleaner ? This is good for cleaning contacts but essencially sensor is also an contact.
Advice: some people say if you disconnect the MAF sensor and the car dies, that means the sensor is good. This is not true. I spent few hundred bucks until a good mechanic told me it is untrue. It turned out I needed a mag sensor which I bought on eBay for less than $15.
Hi I have Lexus gs300 2007 and I would like to ask if this sensor can cause the code p0430 and please any tips to sort out this problem thx in advance Peter

NEVER CLEAN THE MASS AIR FILTER THIS WAY! Clean with CRC Mass Air Flow Cleaner, any other cleaner will leave a residue and destroy the sensor. The sensor is very sensitive they cannot be touched in any way. Just replace it if it is that bad, you will replace it any way if you clean this way.
U cannot touch that u can damage the sensor good for that is mass CRC mass air flow sensor just spray a decent amount on the inside and outside and wait until gets dry.
This guy is right use mass air flow sensor cleaner only if you can get it. If you can get that you won't need to brush at all. If you can't get it carburetor cleaner will work but you want to let that sensor dry for at least 30 to 45 minutes before reinstalling it. Carburetor cleaner will leave a small residue on your sensor but it still should fix your problem. Spend a $10 on a can of mass air flow cleaner period and don't brush it
Those screws are JIS (Japanese Industry Standard) screws. You were probably struggling with them because you used a Philips head screwdrivers not a JIS screwdriver.
You need to buy more screwdrivers! The Roman emperors would have given you thumbs down using a rag to clean the sensor! You are the funniest guy on the internet... LOL😜👍

Instead i load extra power like as head lights on or use of pwer window turn of stearing it vibrate instead i change new battery.. so plzzz tell me solution
Don't be so sure... our Mazda 6 has the same MAF sensor as in this video and it looked the same, except maybe not as bad as his. My son sprayed it with CRC MAF sensor cleaner, let it dry, and it did nothing... the bulb still looked the same afterward.
It’s a Toyota. Use a #1 JIS screwdriver on the two JIS screws; not a Phillips. You are using a #2 Phillips - a good way to round-out and ruin the screws. Phillips screwdrivers do not sit deep enough in a JIS + screw. Look for a screwdriver to JIS B 4633 standard.
Never use carburetor cleaner or throttlebody cleaner on a mass airflow sensor. It’s not worth the risk. Two completely different components with completely different cleaning needs. Very expensive part to try and see five bucks on a can of intended cleaner.
My toyota yaris vehicle every airfilter clean and fixing time showing engine warning light then running time automatically off the warning light what happen please tell me
look at the ingredients for MAF sensor cleaner and it is nearly the same as Carb cleaner. In fact, there is also hexane + Petrol in CRC MAF cleaner which is meant to be aggressive. You can use, de natured alcohol, electrical contact cleaner, carb cleaner (some are aggressive apparently) or isopropyl alcohol.
Hello Peter, I might try that, what could be the issue if my camry 2001, 4 cylinder lags in acceralation, the RPM needle goes to number 3 rev when it goes into the next speed, and the sound it makes is like a stuck sound like if it has air stuck, like a mini-boom sound and the sound comes from under the fuses around the right corner of the air filter, what's your take? I'm thinking probably the throttle fuse? Anyways, thanks!
Peter Finn it has 195,351 miles on it, because it loses horsepower I thought it was the catalytic converter, so I got that change, then I have the camshaft position sensor change, then the air filter and spark plugs but none of that worked, can you give any tips?
Zemorah Ledesma pull the vacuum hose coming out from your fuel pressure regulator if gas comes out means thats bad, it's beginning to shut all the way when your driving

Firstly, they only cost about $20 in the US. Secondly, you should never touch a MAF Sensor and never use Carb cleaner. Only use MAF Sensor cleaner. Everything you said and did was wrong.
I found it better to just buy a new MAF sensor for my 2002 Rav4 instead of trying to clean the MAF with some over-the-counter MAF cleaner. The cleaner was $13 and a new MAF sensor was $33 so I just opted out for the new MAF sensor instead.

Just spray the MAF with MAF cleaner, period. Don't use Carburator cleaner, too strong!
Can kerosene be used to clean up the MAF sensor? I heard some people saying it can be used and allowed to dry for up to 30 minutes.
