The "regular development but blunder a pawn on move 8" opening is one of my most frequently played openings, so cool to see it featured in a video
My special is the save the pawn but fork the rook and the king on move 9
What that isn't a book move ? /S
I am 1000 elo. I don't get closed positions. I get blundered my Queen positions...
PS: I have a duck video, a chicken video, a video where i am begging for money on Twitter... Also a patreon
R u Adam?
This made my day. I don't know why it struck me but I laughed & laughed at this. Maybe cuz it's the same opening I play. Well done Sam Adams
The new mix of instructive and fun chess is perfect, Levy! THANK YOU
Agreed!
New?
You are the best chess contact creator
Can we have a pin of honor, please?
Yeah, this is easily one of my favorite gothamchess vids. Combines the old instructional videos with his great production value and panache of the newer ones. Fantastic.
I have a suggestion for a series of video. You could solve puzzles of positions taken from middlegames of certain openings. For example: "Ideas and patterns in Caro Kann middlegames". Since most of your followers are beginners and seem to struggle from the middlegame onwards this could be a really helpful series of lessons
i think this is a fantastic idea
I’d love this series!
yess
True,we could know about a few middle game ideas of some famous openings, for example,i only came to know about c5 for black in ruy lopez a few weeks ago during wcc
It would be a great idea
completely agree! keep posting this idea so levy sees
"if you dont play with a bishop and a rook ur gonna lose"
me: oh.
FINALLY! How to win closed positions!
My kryptonite!

Surprising that an animator has time for chess
@@iwanttobeabillionaire1703 i am 1400 and believe me i beat someone in 6 moves yesterday. So there are still some shitty players at that level
An ut animator! Luckily you have time to play chess.
Love the "here's a concept", then "here's how it's used in a different number of situations" way of explaining things. Keep up all the awesome work!
As a player who isn't committed enough to memorize several opening lines, this is incredibly instructive!
Memory is a crutch in low elo
the recipe for closed positions is already found out by Fatslob: berserkers, onagers, scorpions and treuchets. wall early then force them to go through your chokepoint.
A man of culture
I wonder how much overlap exists between Chess and AoE2?
Amazing reference my man
Least expected to see an AOE reference here lol. Oops, I mean 11
I get this reference 11
I once played a 40 minute game where in total one single pawn was taken on like move 60 or so we agreed to a draw i still have nightmares of that to this day xd
Can i see the game? Pgn maybe

Hey Levy. Checking in on this vid from your plug in the Charity Cup recap. Personally, this video did appear in my recommendations, but I wasn't in a chess-binge mood. I have a tournament in my college campus in a few weeks so yeah. Now I am. I know this is an individual voice and I don't represent a majority, but just wanted to let you know. I think this video didn't perform as you'd like because of clickbait culture, but I also wanted to add that your plug from the Charity Cup recap was really effective. I *would* recommend more dramatic reveals like that in the future, but maybe it'd get stale at some point. But also you're creative enough, so yeah.
Hi Gotham i'm the guy with the white in the 1st game
It's good know that the one time that i open with some weird moves i end up in a video of yours lmao
Still some good tips for me too thank you :)
Have you seen the game Karpov-Unzicker 1974? Probably the best example of complete domination in a closed position ever. For the first 40 moves the only trade is a singular pawn. Unzicker resigns on move 44, after just one set of bishops is traded. All of his remaining pieces are on the last two ranks.
Saw your videos back in march 2021, clicked cause of the crazy thumbnails (i didn't know how to play chess lmao). Been absolutely obsessed with chess for 10 months now, doesn't matter that i will never be a master, I love the game!
Thank you Levy!
Just curious to know where you started (rating-wise) and where you are now?
I needed this, I always struggle in closed positions! Thanks Levy!
Absolutely AMAZING video, very instructive and I’ve been needing this for awhile now. I’m sure my fellow 700s can agree that closed positions can be real tricky at times, where you just don’t know what to move.
Outstanding content! Strategic review backed by excellent examples. Straight forward and logical - gives us 800s a starting point in these closed games when we're stuck going "now what?!" Thanks for the super lesson!!
Hey Gotham, long time viewer here. I'm rated around 1500-1600 rapid and completely suck at end games. If you need some video inspiration, a tleast I would appreciate the same kinda video for end games! Great stuff.
Same here. I’m around 1750 rapid and 1600 blitz and have not really seen improvement from looking at the 100 Endgames you must know book or some of the endgames tools online. However, I saw some progress from your old endgames series and would definitely appreciate if more or updated videos in that regard came out.
lucena and philidor position videos would be fantastic
Hey, so I have a tip, calculate some endgame puzzles and calculate the entire continuation and all the variations at once with a set target of 2 hours for 20 puzzles, then the next day, do the same puzzles with 1 hour 50 mins etc etc
@@System.Error. I mean there are many explained ways to win them
@@System.Error. He already has a video on rook and pawn endgames
love the videos! helping me learn and test the waters with concepts i didn’t even know where important for my development as a player
Man you're just great. What an inthusiasm and vision to fill this gap the community had. Great content as always.
This vid earns the like of the month, it’s my fav vid I’ve seen from you and it’s really instructive and can be used if I need it whenever in the future
Super informative and great delivery as always. Many thanks Levy
Good introductory lesson for closed positions ! thanks Levy. Great energy & good vibes too . I like closed tricky positions with lots of possibilities. Strong outpost , knight's vs bishops, pawn play. Pawn structure, tactical awareness. Positional sacrifice. Restricting opponents pieces. Plus much more.
Thank you! The exact video I was hoping for.
Waited a long time for this. Thank you
I really like this type of videos. Please do more of them! I would love you to focus more on high level or educational chess.
All the latest videos make me understand this game better and better. Thanks Levy!
What a timing! I've just had a completely closed position and was like "Damn, I wonder if gotham has a video about how to handle these", and now it's here!
Its amazing paying for content from Levy and watching his instructive videos there and also being delighted by LOTS of free content. Thank you man all love
THANK YOU! I’ve been looking to an easier way to learn this. Thanks bro… this has helped so much
this was probably the most helpful video i have seen so far, i always struggle with, what is my strategy/gameplan this gave me completely another view how to see a position, thank you levy
Your content is improving, not implying it was not good back then but it feels good to see where you are today, keep growing Levy!
This is the most useful video I've watched. Just super super helpful. Thanks Levy!
Love the format for this video. Keep up the good work.
AMAZING VIDEO. Lot of concepts I was immediately able to apply to my game and started doing much better
Thank you, I really needed this!
Thank you for the awesome content Gotham
I really love your more instructional videos they're great
good stuff, gave me concrete ideas on how to form attacks during closed middle games, thx levy
Hi, Levy - amazing video. Thank you! I’m not sure if you have already but could you do a video specifically on sacrifices? Like what to look for to make sure a sacrifice you’ll play will be advantageous. Keep up the good work in building such a great chess community.
This is the kind of content I want to see more from you. Thank you for this.
So helpful, as always. I just broke 800 thanks to your vids!
Congrats dude!
Congrats mate! Next stop - 3000
Really liked this, Levy. Like the mix of subscriber and master level games as illustrations of your points. How about some vids showing more classic games from your favorite historical GMs?
The way you present information about chess is truly unique. There is no doubt in my mind that you are by far the best chess channel on UA-cam. Also you've helped me so much! My game has doubled since I started watching you're videos, thank you very much. :) Happy new year!
i just loved this video, keep it up :D would be very fun to make more complex videos
Great content!
Very instructive
hope you make more
Thx Levy
Thanks for this vid. I like open positions and am not good with closed ones. So playing the caro khan exchange variation is much better for me.
Levy your the best chess person in the world in my heart, you inspire me to get better and soon later this year I want to get into playing tournaments
@fighting porium k
Great stuff! Very instructive!
this was awesome!!! i always learn a lot from you!!!
You package these beautiful little nuggets of information in such a great way
I absolutely ADORE the chess lessons from Levy. The best on youtube, no doubt
This should def be a course on his website. i need the 3 hour version of this and the instruction of open and semi-closed postions would be appreciated too.
There's longer lessons of it on youtube. Saint louis chess club has a lecture on it, danya, hanging pawns. Theyre all great
I very like this one, good job Levy!
Very informative. tx!
very helpful
thank you Levy!!
I love this channel because this kind of instructive content. I think you are the best explaining hard stuff. Please, more instructive videos.
Great video! Closed positions are so tricky and this helps
Awesome video. happy to see some higher rated content apart from guess the elo or instructive stuff for +/- 800's
Amazing explanation and great choice of games!
Simply the best.
Thanks again bro.
Thank you. Very helpful.
I like this you should make more videos about pawn structures
The video ive been waiting for ty
I prefer the educational videos, but it never showed up in my feed. Thanks for this!
I was waiting for this long time thank you Gotham
Love you Levy...Love your content... Really helps me a lot...
Good stuff! Very helpful.
love these instructive videos! :)
Awesome video, thank u!
Thanks for the closed positions video!
Thank you, sir. I have a tournament coming up and this will help a lot. Thank you
Thanks for your work Levy
Love these instructional videos
needed this one
I'd love for a follow-up "When to allow a closed position" analysing when the space advantage is so bad that you should never let it happen in the first place by adjusting your original pawn moves so you can take before the enemy gets the choice to move past.
But I totally get if that's too abstract to analyse.
Thank you, we appreciate all your daily efforts !
Really interesting. Thanks!
Very helpful, loved this vid
Thank you for sprinkiling in some instructive content
I missed instructive videos from you, Levy!
Keep this content coming! Good video
Very helpful; thanks.
If you haven't already, could you make a video on pawn storms: how to use them to attack and how to defend against them?
He has a video: How to use pawns in chess. It's on pawn structures and stuff.
I am confident to say that if I were to learn 100% of his videos I'd be a GM.
I tried, but I'm stuck at 900.
Even Levy himself would hope it’s THAT easy
You mean grandmother, right?
No
@@antlerkiller it is if he listens to his own advice. Don't lose pieces, don't hang mate, don't lose boom you're good to go. Magnus Carlsen would be trembling with fear whenever he'll face GM Levy.
Great video thanks 👍🏼👍🏼
I actually falled in love with closed positions. Its so cool
Havent even watched this yet and I already know it’s gonna be my favorite video
Samuel Schweber was an Argentine IM that played 3rd-4th board for Argentina in several Olympiads from the 60s-80s. He is mostly famous for being on the losing end of some Spassky and Fischer brilliancies and for being Najdorf's favorite punching bag in Argentina.
Perfect video. I'm actually almost 1500 at rapids and just starting to studying openings, like what are the purpose of each of them. Videos like these helps a lot.
Please do more engine videos, I find beauty in how they’ve perfected chess
Once again Gotham coming in clutch with the most needed educational content! What a legend
Can you make a video on how to improve calculations and deep analysing at a any position?
Thanks for this Gotham. I came back to this one after you mentioned it in a recent video. I do need to work harder on these pawn breaks because I always lose to my Dad at these.
Would absolutely buy a course on common pawn structures that arise from your E4 New York course!! BTW marriage looks good on you Levy. I envision a Levy Jr prodigy in the future
Your ability to explain everything clearly is astonishing
If i may, this is the best instructive video you have ever made. good job Levi
Videos have been amazing lately.
Any way you can make a video on what constitutes a situation where you're slow and losing time (in making too many moves) and what is a situation where making several knight moves and other backwards moves as being absolutely all right ?
Freakin'amazing, this video 🔥🔥🔥
You should make a similar one of endgames!
Am I the only person who really likes playing closed positions? Especially in daily games. Long-term strategic play where you’re jostling for control in more subtle ways, only for the game to suddenly open up and result in a tactical explosion? That’s chess, baby. Also I’m like 1000 so nobody my level knows how to play a closed position.
I am not really that fond of closed positions because most of the time, especially at around 1200 elo and lower (somtimes up to 1500 elo) the opponent will try to trade nearly everything to get an open position and it gets real boring real fast.
@@zjean3417 true, I like tactical rich positions. Not too complex but yeah a position which has opposite side castling.
Can't say I love it in daily games, for you might have to wait an entire month for it to open up lol
