      I like to view endgame and non-endgame pawns as different pieces. In the endgame they have individual power, since all of them could become a game ending piece, and in the rest of the game they're strong as a collective, acting as a single 8 point piece. In the endgame you protect the pawns, before that the pawns protect you

    Chess player for 37 years here; I just like to watch your channel, regardless of topic.
    ...
    I think it might be important to clarify WHY a passed pawn is so strong, since some newer players will not already see the reason. The usual method of stopping a pawn is to trade another pawn for it. Because a pawn is worth less than even a weaker piece (knight/bishop), an opponent doesn't want to trade something other than one of their pawns for your passed pawn -- because were they to do that, you could just start trading evenly piece for piece and easily win. If you can protect the pawn and march it down the board, the opponent will struggle to keep it from promoting. You cannot always force the opponent to trade a piece for your passed pawn in order to stop you from promoting -- however, the passed pawn is like being armed with a weapon that you can at any time choose to use. Every time you want, you can work to move the pawn further. Your opponent must keep the threat in mind all game long, once you have that passed pawn. It is a lot like forcing a person to run with one foot tied to their elbow. And it really, really feels like it.

    The value of pawns goes up as the game progresses. In the early stages, they are 1. expendable soldiers, 2. Excellent defenders precisely because of their perceived low value, and 3. devices which can be used to manipulate the opponent. As the game progresses they increasingly try to realize their dream.... "I may only be a pawn now, but I aspire to be a QUEEN."

    Great video Levy!! Would be great if you could create a video about how to push pawns to promote a queen.... when you do it in your videos seems always so easy, but when it's time to do it myself... I don't know which strategy should I use (king in front of the pawns, rooks behind them, push the pawns alone on their own....of course it will depend on the position, but must be some basic ideas behind). It's something critical that can decide if you win or you lose the game

    • @Opanker_
      @Opanker_ Рік тому

      This might be a bit too late but, most of the time, especially if it's only king to king and some pawns you want your king in front of the pawn with a knight's distance as it allows the king to just oversee the pawn from the side when you push it.

    How to use pawns "properly" in the various phases of a chess game.
    1) Slowly open the packaging and pull a couple pawns out
    2) Throw your pawns in a pot to simmer with horse meat and maybe read the bible while at it.
    3) Once the horse meat has been tenderized enough, and or you have finished reading the holy scriptures, start pulling the pawns out of the pot for consumption. Careful not to make the rookie mistake of consuming pawns on their own. Always escort them with some sort of a side dish if you want to have a majestic experience.
    You are welcome

Bitcoin miraculously grow when it first started trading from around $0.0008 to $0.08 in July 2010 now per coin yeah and the price reached a peak of $19,783 per bitcoin in late-2017 Bitcoin has really stood its ground and would keep breaking grounds, investors sure know how profitable it is now. Forgive me if im wrong, but after that knight moved to G2 (10:37) it is Win for black with Black Bishop to D2, with no way to prevent Check when going to C3 .(if king moves to either squares, black wins with rook A8. if Knight moves, rook C8 to C6 then Other rook to C8) If White rook moves to A1, Bishop C3 Check. King move either squares, then Black Rook C8 to A8 (with check(king B2 to A2) , or facing other rook (king B2 to B1). If check: white king A2 to B1, Then Black Rook take with Mate. If rook facing other rook, Activate other Black rook from H8 to C8, wich is too much for white.
    Other way, When black bishop move to C3 Check, White king B2 to C1, then Black rook to A8. Could bring a big mess here, but sure looks winning to black when activate other Rook.

    I just picked up chess again this week after not playing for about 15 years. Today I played a computer to a draw, and won two games against actual people, including my dad. I attribute this is no small part to Levy's videos. In the game against my dad I was mostly thinking about pawn management, and not rushing my attacks. Managed to checkmate him, probably due to a single blunder he made that allowed me to take his queen early. Thanks for the lessons Levy
