- ASKING GUYS IF THEY THINK I'M GAY
Today I went around asking guys if they think I am gay based on their first impression of me. This LGBT social experiment was mainly done for fun in a light hearted spirit. I found it fun to see what characteristics people associated with "being gay". People had great responses and it was awesome to see how open and accepting people were.
I know MarkE Miller did a video just like this 6 years ago and I loved it so figured I'd give it a go but add a little change to it. Comment below if you think people reacted differently today than they did 6 years ago with Mark.
Will be linking other Gay Week videos below as they come out.

Well, my gaydar beeped after 5 seconds.. :)
Literally thought he was gay after about five seconds.
I don’t mean to sound rude, but no straight guy would ask this question in the first place.
Speaks in high voice “because I’m masculine or whatever”
😂 don’t worry I’m the same
It's a small world! That guy at 8:19 was wearing a T-shirt for WFMU, a radio station here in New Jersey, which I listen to sometimes.
Very small world
Isnt it the same country? 🤦♂️🤦♂️🤦♂️🤦♂️
4:45 "they said they was gay off camera"
They dont even need to tell, we knew at first glance lol
Takes one to know one Love that guy.
Hahaha he was great
That 4th guy you asked is a legend. What a sweetheart.
for me, your eyes would give it away
Tristan, I liked your social experiment. I liked some of the comments that people made that it really didn't matter or they didn't necessarily assume, or that it didn't matter. Too bad that more people are not that way. They should know you for you and accept you for you regardless of your orientation. Keep up the good work. I always enjoy your videos.
Thank you! Yeah, people were really good and comfortable with it. I found it nice that most people didn't care.
I just found your channel today. I can't believe you don't have hundreds of thousands of subs! Can't wait to watch all of your previous videos...and all future ones. Keep up the great work, Tristan.
Thank you! I have hundreds of sub, hopefully thousands one day haha
In the first part of the video (while you were in your "straight" outfit) you asked people "do you think I'm gay." In the second part (while you were in your "gay" outfit) you asked people "do you think I'm straight or gay." I think the different phrasing of the question could have affected people's answers.
Strong MarkEMiller vibes here haha
Dude you're my type haha ♥
I love this video. I’ve never been bullied in my life, but I think it’s because I don’t present as typically gay...case in point, after going to university with the same 30+ people for 3 years, I finally came out to them at graduation...and the vast majority of them thought I was pranking them. In fact, it took a while to convince them. But I acknowledge that it makes me a little privileged and therefore, if I ever see any 🏳️🌈 being bullied or abused...I will absolutely speak up for them and intervene. We gotta have each other’s back. 😁
Tristan, I hope that people start subscribing and realizing how awesome your channel is ‘cause I really do genuinely enjoy your content. I love the diversity, your lack of inhibitions to try new things, and your open-mindedness...and I love that you speak fast!!!
PS - you should try and do the same experiment, but only ask women. That would be really interesting to compare the two. Oh, and for the record, I liked your video a LOT better than Mark’s ‘cause you were more thorough in your little conversations with the people...that’s just IMO.
Absolutely! We need to have each other's backs. Also, that's cool that you came out to your college friends at graduation. Hope they were cool with it.
Tristan Kuhn Oh yeah, graduation was 11 years ago and a lot of us are still friends...in fact, I was my best friend’s best man when he and his girlfriend got married. 👍🏽 But Hawai’i has the highest number of 🏳️🌈 identifying individuals per capita of any state...and it’s because people really don’t care about it. I attribute it to our extreme diversity, racially, religiously, etc. You’ll see what I mean when you do get to come for a visit. 👍🏽
I'd love to visit Hawaii!
@@SeanShimamoto ... You nailed it! I lived in Hawaii for a long time and being gay was really "no big ting bra"🤙
cosmic voyager Wow, that’s really nice to hear. Sometimes I wonder if it’s just that people can’t tel if I’m gay...but I also gauge it by how I see my gay friends being treated, and they’re always treated like everyone else. So thank you for the comment...it’s nice to hear that we treated you like everyone else. 😁
At the end of the day...Does it matter? You come across as a nice person and that's good enough for me. If some one asked me if they were gay my response would be "I'll show you mine if you'll show me yours " lol. Depending how they react to that I'd get my answer :)
I like the 4th guy, I agree with him I think everyone is equal 😊💕
I don't care about you orientation !! you are a fun guy and I like how you are ,never change bro.
Haha. It takes one to know one.
I mean, I thought gay from the first thumbnail I ever saw...
Well that's one way to find a date
My gaydar just got better
To me it doesn’t matter what you wear if some people are gay there are some gay guys that wear regular clothes and ear rings and no ear rings and yeah that’s what I believe!
Hey Tristan, since you are in still here Australia, the colour of the pants are pronounce like "car-key" not "Kakk-ee" ok.. Just saying lol. Also, in the video, you look taller than most people, so I'd guess you'd be about 182cms tall. How close am I?
If I heard that right, neither of those college campuses is probably the most gay-friendly/accepting, but maybe more so than in the general public. And hmm, would a straight guy randomly ask peole if they think he's gay? I wonder if the results would be different if you had a straight guy do the same, with similar outfits. All that said, I'm very curious about the results. -- When I went to college, both at a major university and a community college, whew, it was nog gay-friendly, and that was about ten years apart. Active heckling from a boys' dorm near the new (at the time) GSA office...too bad I didn't go in that door.
Interesting. I liked the one guy's answer that you can't really tell just by looking or a first impression. How much do things like voice, mannerisms, physical appearance, clothing actually make any difference? I was glad that so many guessed no, straight. -- And that "gaydar" thing: Either mine needs adjusting or it's a myth. I tend to presume any guy is straight until strong evidence to the contrary. When you like a straight guy, find out he's straight, then get disappointed, that's rough. (Tended to happen in my teens, not so much as an adult.) And occasionally, guessing a guy Is gay could also be incorrect. I would guess it's not as easy for a lot of people to tell, including gay or LGBT / queer folks. In a few cases, yeah, it may be more obvious, but I suspect that too is a stereotype. I've known a couple of guys over the years who seemed like the could be gay but, as far as I ever knew, they were straight. Sublimating it? I didn't know, if they were. So my impression is, it's not so easy to tell, just with a first impression. -- I wonder how many guys in this experiment were so taken aback by the question that they couldn't guess either, or how many were unsure if they could say someone they hadn't met before was gay. Lots of factors to this, but it's an interesting experiment!
If you weren’t thinking of Mark video from the beginning, where have you been. I was waiting for the: “so what have we learned, other than I’m a flaming homosexual?”like in Mark’s vid.😂😂😂😬
Yeah I 100% copied this video from mark. I wanted to say the “flaming homosexual” remark but didn’t want to copy every aspect of his video
8:02 the fucking double take hahahah
Super cool video your extreamly handsome
There is look and then there is observe. If you observe you can spot the gay ones. :)
Humm, Upon first impressions, I would think you're cute as hell, but I would be too shy to ask you out. Strange that ear rings makes a difference. I think I know more teamsters that wear ear rings than gay guys.
Yeah, I agree. Lots of straight guys have earrings. Most of the guys I know with earrings are straight.
I wonder if one of them tried to ask him out
Lazsalzari Romnzevroskki no one did but I thought about asking one of them out haha. I’ll let you guess which one
@@TristanKuhn ooh a challenge, yaay! I was guessing between the bi guy with the dog and the 'great gaydar' guy with glasses. But by the way you both looked at each other while talking, maybe, the gaydar guy with glasses. please let me know if I was right!
Lazsalzari Romnzevroskki good guess but not correct. Idk if they guy I thought was cute was gay tbh
@@TristanKuhn oh snap! LOL okay! uhmm last guess .... the guy with the letter Z on his t shirt and the guy with the 'Escuche' word on his t shirt. Fingers crossed!
Lazsalzari Romnzevroskki I just realized the guy isn’t in this video. It was the “brothers or boyfriends” video lol. My mistake
Why did you only ask guys except for 1 girl in a group of guys? 🤔
If you asked me if I thought you were gay based off first impressions I would tell you that I really dislike stereotypes, and whatever I guessed would be based off chance. Because your orientation has nothing to do with your personality or how you dress. But if I had to guess based off first impressions from you I would say you’re gay solely because most straight people are not comfortable with people thinking they might be gay (I know that isn’t always the case but that’s my personal experience).
Thanks. That’s a good way to approach it
Why do I kinda want to do this?
You should haha
By the earrings really??? So many straight boys wear earrings
i'm guessing bottom?
Cute guy
we got say name
ManImDead how cool! Hello Tristan!
This is obviously not an insult but you aren't super masculine
If you came to me and asked me if you are gay :P This would be my opinion I don't think you were gay I would describe you as bisexual or straight :P but that's my opinion though
Sail cloth not khaki, are you sure you're gay? Kidding.
Khaki is a color not a type of cloth. Sail cloth, or something close, not Chino.
And do not delude yourself many people do care about your sexuality. Interview people in front of one your Texas megachurches
Gay people are good or bad people?? Never meet one
Guess you can decide that on your own once you meet some
kelvan joe some gay people are bad, but some are good. Same with straight people. Some are bad, some are good. If you’re a good person then you’re a good person regardless of your sexual orientation. Same if you’re a bad person. Generally though, I think gay people are more empathetic and tolerant than straight people. This is because so many gay people have had bad experiences coming out, getting bullied, being discriminated against, and other things. They seem to care about people and how they feel, because they don’t want those people to feel bad like they’ve felt before. Obviously that isn’t true for everyone. But that’s how I feel about it. And that’s how a lot of people in other minority groups seem to me.
@@danial804 i got it. thanks man.
They are humans just like you, they just happen to love people as the same gender.
