rDavidr MODDED MY SNARE

- Had the amazing opportunity to work on this drum with, none other than, rDavidr. This was an 80s style marching snare drum that I bought from a friend in College roughly 20 years ago. We decided to modify it into a snare/floor tom and I couldn't be happier with the results. Special thanks to David for working with me on this!

Cool snare 😎
rdavidr yeah, wonder who would be so cool that they could make this. They must be so cool.
You knocked this build out of the park man - a pleasure to work together!!
Nobody does it better! RdavidR
Y'all cute
This drum sounds so goood
80's marching snare turned into an 80's gated snare
Is it the actual sound, or how much processing is behind it?
@@SnahLhug the sound I believe. I don't think David's vid shows the sound though, so I can't tell
I barely did anything to this mix-wise. A touch of EQ and mix bus compression - David made it super easy to dial in!
@@TJHartmanndrums nice
TJ Hartmann sounds absolutely killer man!
Who came via Rdavidr? This snare/tom is killer! It fits electronic music perfectly.
I most certainly did, and when David mentioned making it “thud” I never would imagine it sounding like a trigger. That’s truly a one off snare! Sounds amazing and I dig the track as well.
Snom
I feel like it could even have its place in rock music with the way that it sounds
THose rototoms are killer!
6:09 PURE Drummer Joy!!
Threw the D tuned sample in behind the existing snare I was already using for my demos, and OH MAN is it the perfect extra dimension
Rhythm X hell yea!!!!! My drum line instructor marched and taught there.
david rocks at drum projects.
I love the marching snare more than your main snare. Wow!
I love your playing and I love the snare
That kit sounds amazing. And the second floor tom is out of THIS WORLD! The bottom register is incredible
Rdavidr rules
Nice snom bro. Sounds over the top 80s. Which is what I like.
Came over from rdavidr. Is that the actual sounds with just that big fat snare drum head on it? It fit so we'll with that spacey track. Great drumming, too!
Studio guy coming from rdavidr... TOTALLY buying an old marching snare at some point and making a snom. That just sounds so fucking good
Wow man! So nice!
It just put a smile on my face when he first saw it you can tell that it wasn’t staged it was pure happiness and that jus made me happy!
That thing sounds amazing
Dude! This is so sick and your playing sounds fantastic
Thanks so much Ben! Appreciate you checking this out! Hope you're doing well!
The Drum sounds sick!
Sounds great
this video gave me chills, good job bro
Thank you!
I did the same exact thing to a 14 x 12 stage concert Tom from Yamaha I turned it into a snare with Ludwig parts and I cut down a tama snare stand to make up for the hight of the drum looks and sounds Awesome very deep sound..I'm also from Columbus Ohio
I came here from rdavidr’s channel. I love watching him build crazy stuff that looks beautiful or sometimes it just doesn’t turn out right but yet he still shows it. He’s a master at his craft for sure and I love the way you’ve incorporated that beautiful snare into your kit. You’ve got a very unique and wonderful sound. I could listen to a track like this all day! That snare definitely has a lovely “thud”.. I always thought that kinda sound came from triggers but to hear it like that... David truly out did himself and you’ve showcased it perfectly. Great collaboration! Hope to see more.
I'm a fan of his too, for sometime, he's an incredible craftsman and an all-around awesome guy too. This was such a fun project for us to work on together and it came out better than I could've hoped. Glad you enjoyed this!
Looks and sounds great man! With the 80's and early 2000's marching snare drums you had sitting back there and your intense attention to detail, I figured you marched somewhere serious👌
Thank you! I was with the Glassmen 01-03 and Rhythm X 03-05
Love it..
You’re making me want to buy an old marching snare now 😂 great job bro!
Do it!
Pure lush. What a beautiful mod. Thank U rDavidr and TJ for giving it the air it so deserved
Sounds and looks great! Congrats!
The snom @rdavidr made sounds absolutely incredible! Love the music you make! Sounds great! Kit sounds amazing!
holy shit sounds amazing
Killer snare mod by David, and KILLER track and groove at the end - the teaser in the build video had me salivating it was so tasty
That thing sounds amazing!
So cool friendship! So cool Drumming! So cool Snare!
Snare sounds amazing on this track!!!🔥🔥🔥🔥
Sounds killer,I really dig it.Not a snom or snare floor Tom guy,but this one has the sound I like.Great job by David, enjoy!
Wow! That snare sounds straight up sampled! Phenomenal job. I am inspired to add one now. 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Thanks! He made it super easy to get dialed in!
Sick
Greaaaat playing man!! So tasteful. The snare sounds fantastic!
Thank you!
Dude!!! I mean, not only that snare is amazing, but your playing also, and the mixing is off the charts as well.. Best wishes from Argentina!!!
Thank you!
Another sterling effort by David! He has also earned you a new subscriber. Lovely snom, lovely sound, lovely track and lovely playing!
Thanks so much and welcome!
Incredibly phat sound + kickass drumming. Looks like I’m subscribing.
Thanks so much!
Put a clear powerstroke 77 and synthetic snares on that bad boy and get that crisp marching snare sound.
I'm likin' tht groove...
Your drums always sound amazing but that snare is INSANE
Repping that Deep V apparel Hoody, my man
🔥🔥🔥🔥
I just got done watching David's video on this snare rebuild. And let me tell you, that thing is SO awesome, I've been looking for a marching snare for my drum kit for a long time now, but haven't found the right one for me yet. I am going to steal his idea about the floor tom legs, oh, hell yes i am....Haha, that idea is absolutely brilliant.
He did such a fantastic job on this thing and it's sound is, disgustingly awesome.....so good, so, SO good.
This is my first time to your Channel and I'll tell you what, I'm 100% in.
You sir, have a brand-new subscriber.
One question for you, what is your main snare setup ? Because that thing sounds amazing also. Nice and crisp has a sick sounding pop to it....I like it......
Anyway, glad to be here and I'm looking forward to exploring the rest of your content, I'm sure I won't be disappointed.
That track you played sounded killer, great tempo and changes, your fills were, unexpected at times but worked flawlessly, nice job. Sounded great.
You are a fantastic percussionist.👍
Take care, stay safe.

I have a late 70’s to early 80’s Ludwig marching snare that I traded in some drum gear for it. I have yet to refinish it and have thought about using it as a floor tom. Btw the measurements are 15x12” deep. It’s kind of like a John Bonham tom, but his was a 14x12”. It’s crazy nuts! 😂
That's awesome!
Hi TJ,
I am a one handed Drummer from Holland (This is due to early birth) and I came here via David (how original, I know haha) but I was struck with your music and playing by the first second!
So thank you!
You are really inspirational and keep it up! All the best and stay safe!
I subbed on here and IG!
Frank
Hey Frank! Thank you so much for stopping by and for the support! Hope you're well and stay safe my friend!
This is so amazing TJ!
Thanks Hayden! Hope you're doing well.
@@TJHartmanndrums you’re so welcome! And yeah I am doing just fine as can be with this whole pandemic thing!
Incredible playing. Very lyrical which is the highest compliment I can give a drummer. You certainly understand the _whole_ of a track. Could you please tell me what cymbal is the far one above your new "snom" and your floor tom? I'd actually be interested in all the cymbal models but that one in particular. Thank you. I hope you start making more videos. You certainly deserve more views and subs and I'd love to hear more of your incredible and highly tasteful playing and kit selection.
Would love a proper sample pack for that snom, it sounds great!
Sounds awesome,I just converted a floor tom into a SNOM.Going to post the second part soon on my channel.
Nice!
would loooooooove to see a video on your micing setup here! sounds super niiiiice
Definitely in the works!
Bro you deserve more subscribers!!
Thank you! Appreciate you stopping by!
Yes, I came here from rdavidr, but that track/song made me subscribe =D Really amazing!
Thank you so much!
Sounds like Phil Collins on-cue. Also I think the drum should be called a Tommy Snare just because it's both descriptive and rolls off the tongue better than "Snom"
Big phat snom drom
Really nice sound from that marching snare.
Would you mind if I ask how you solved the rototoms' mount hardware?
Thank you! I just posted about the roto-toms on my Instagram page a few days ago - check it out for more info on the DIY mount!
That sounds insane! Did you change the head or put something on it? Originally it was blue but in the demo it was white, just curious what changed.
I now have 2 new channels to follow. I buy and restore drums as well. This is a very well done project.
Awesome, thank you so much!
Cool content, I just subscribed.
Thank you!
How did you mount your roto toms like that? really interesting and I am looking to do something similar to cut down what is needed to set up my roto toms! really awesome video as well
It was a bit of a challenge - I don't have the original hardware and had to use half of a cymbal arm. I used the mount for an SPD and attached it to a boom stand. Works surprisingly well, super fun setup!
TJ Hartmann could you maybe send like a part list? I’d love to see your engineering haha that sounds amazing and I’m glad it worked for you
You're looking for 4:44 . .
I wanted to hear it as a tom too :(
But anyway Killer snare!!!!
Nice job @rdavidr....btw Tj...need this track name..it’s just freaking awesome
It does! Neon Lights - check David's video description to download a copy!
Show us how you tuned it! 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻
Are those roto toms you're using, cause they sound great with your drum set. i really like the sound and set up you have
Yep - put some fresh G2s on them and they sing - thank you!
@@TJHartmanndrums Makes me want to go buy some roto toms now, Lovin the snom too, i've been thinking of converting a floor tom for a couple years now, or even doing what larnell lewis is doing with a fat snare replacing the first floor tom
What are the components of your stack in this video?
It has to be called the Flare short for Floor Snare.
It’s a snom.
did he swap out the evans hybrid skin with a coated head (and a big fat snare ring), or does he just have a big fat on
top of the evans?
Yep, we swapped the Hybrid top for a UV2 and a BFSD XL Donut.
I really would’ve wanted to hear it dry. I probably sounds huge as it is.
What did you march at RhythmX and what years?
03-04 I was in the snare line and aged-out playing kit in the front ensemble in 05
What year where you with rhythm X??
Early years - 03-05
Would’ve liked to heard it with the hydraulic head.
777 views.......JACKPOT!
Unboxing 4.50
Dang....... that's all I have to say.
yo man wheres the raw sound of the snare its self ?
From watching the vid in rdavidr the to watching link to this vid
Thanks for stopping by!
We should collaborate
You couldn't play it even once with raw sound, by itself, no backing track and audio effects?
I added legs to my marching snare and it’s junk lol 😂 that why you don’t buy 30$ vintage marching snare without double checking photos
Check out my new MGK drum cover!!🤪
So we're already 4 minutes in and so far it's only drama. Get on with it.
Hi there Richard
