  • I've always been fascinated by JD's playing. I've noticed a few patterns that he often plays so I picked a few that we can use to piece together our own JD beck inspired flow. Enjoy!

I am a 57 year old drummer who has been obsessed with Domi and JD Beck the past two months! THANK YOU so much Brandon for this extremely informative lesson. You cracked the code dude! Now I am obsessed with Brandon Scott videos. You are an awesome teacher, you broke it down perfectly to the point that I just called in work (day job) to practice my new JD Beck Technique. You are a very good teacher sir. THANK YOU !

I saw your comment and had to say that I'm 65, a keyboard player and because of Domi, I've been inspired to get practicing again. Both JD and Domi are the future. No grande visual antics or exaggerated physical movement on the drums. It's all in his wrists, and Domi's playing is inspiring. Yes, I'm with you Mr FusionHowie. My best wishes from Yorkshire England.

I think a big part of his playing is that he does NOT hit hard. He's a tight, but dynamically soft player, very similar to DJ from Khruangbin. That's why Domi sits right next to him when they're playing together. He's not SLAMMING the drums.

Dude, the guy has been playing like 24/7 since he was like 5 years old. It makes sense that he's as good as he is but it's still really absurd. So it's a prowess for you to figure this stuff out. Great video. You simply nailed it. Garibaldi had made it popular long time ago in funk. It's simply paradiddle concepts around the kit. Experienced drummers master different variations since Buddy Rich. Your explanation is very simple and the best I've found do far. Very easy to understand for most drummers. Beck masters it at lightning speed, very tightly and in a creative way.
