The lead singer/guitarist was a Vietnam vet who was given The Purple Heart for being wounded in combat. I believe he was in the Marines. I also heard that several or all of the other band members were Vietnam vets.
Yes, lead singer/guitarist Toy Caldwell enlisted in the USMC in 1966 and served in Vietnam until he wounded in action in 1968. He was had attained the rank of Sergeant and was discharged in 1969.
Southern Rock is a genre all of it's own. Besides Marshall Tucker, there's Allman Bro's, Little Feat, Gov't Mule, Derek Trucks, The Outlaws, Lynyrd Skynyrd, ZZ Top, Doobie Bro's, Poco, Molly Hatchet, Charlie Daniels Band, Grateful Dead, Amboy Dukes, Black Crowes, Dixie Dregs, Ozark Mountain Daredevils, North Mississippi Allstars, Alabama..... and a whole bunch more!!!!! I saw Marshall Tucker twice, once in Dallas and once in St. Louis. High energy and loads of fun!!!
Lol…. I just made almost the same comment to another reactor about Southern Rock! I agree it’s almost it’s own thing. Is it Rock or Blues or sometimes sounds a little Country with blue grass elements…. Idk maybe it’s all of those! But it’s GREAT either way!!
Makes this old southern Mississippi stupjumper happy to see black folks discovering good music. Just like all my family loved BB,Ross,Green,Barry ect from 60s to this day. Thanks
Watching this video takes me to those times and anybody who came by my house heard MTB blasting nearly every day. Great sound all around and great guitar. And, awesome harmonies!! Great watching with you JMBOY. As usual.
Excellent reaction to a good song. You cannot fake the level of appreciation and enjoyment you showed for this song and many others. The best reactions on YT are found right here. Thumbs up.

The Marshall Tucker Band, The Allman Brothers Band, Lynyrd Skynyrd, and ZZ Top were considered the top of the Southern Rock Sound. Marshall Tucker's songs like Searchin’ for a Rainbow’, 'Heard In A Love Song', 'Take The Highway, and ‘Fire on the Mountain,’ are all great songs by the band. The Southern Rock sound has so many bands to choose from, mostly all amazing.
Toy Caldwell was a veteran who received a purple heart for injury in Vietnam. His brother was in the band too. Do you mean??????? Hello my favorite Reactioner. I love that you react by your expressions and don't keep stopping the music. You take it all in then give your verbal reactions when it's over. You also let the music play itself all the way to the end.
To put this song in perspective of the time. 18th birthday drafted. Senior trip to Vietnam. Small town or rural boy with 1 love gets sent. Returns to hippie movement and lost girl to the times.
The Marshall Tucker Band is an American rock band from Spartanburg, South Carolina. Noted for incorporating blues, country, and jazz into an eclectic sound, the Marshall Tucker Band helped establish the Southern rock genre in the early 1970s. The original line-up of the Marshall Tucker Band, formed in 1972, included lead guitarist, vocalist, and primary songwriter Toy Caldwell (1947-1993), lead vocalist Doug Gray (born 1948), keyboard player, saxophone player, and flautist Jerry Eubanks (born 1950), rhythm guitarist George McCorkle (1946-2007), drummer Paul Riddle (born 1953), and bassist Tommy Caldwell (1949-1980). They signed with Capricorn Records and released their first album in 1973, The Marshall Tucker Band.
@AliasMark69, I saw Marshall Tucker twice, once in Dallas and once in St. Louis. High energy and loads of fun!!! As you said, Southern Rock is a genre all of it's own. For @JMBoyTV I added: Besides Marshall Tucker, there's Allman Bro's, Little Feat, Gov't Mule, Derek Trucks, The Outlaws, Lynyrd Skynyrd, ZZ Top, Doobie Bro's, Poco, Molly Hatchet, Charlie Daniels Band, Grateful Dead, Amboy Dukes, Black Crowes, Dixie Dregs, Ozark Mountain Daredevils, North Mississippi Allstars, Alabama..... and a whole bunch more!!!!!
@@AliasMark69 after the music room tour video, it's amazing how closely you resemble my cousin in Colorado. He is also 4 years older than I am, and you almost look like and sound like him, although you are WAY more musically talented than either of us. We are still really close even to this day! And yes, it's fun rehashing all these concerts we went to...never thinking a thing about 'em, it was just what we did. Plus they were only $5 or $10 bucks for tickets.

Great group live (of course they did this song but another great one they do is "Take The Highway”) and real nice guys too. I had the pleasure of meeting them all, cooking them dinner & hanging out backstage when they gave a performance at a venue owned by a friend back in 1999. These guys were part of the Southern Rock sound and more great bands (sadly overlooked these days) a few more bands in this group include Poco - a must listen by them is “Crazy Eyes", The Outlaws - "Green Grass and High Tides”, The Band - "The Weight (take a load off Annie)”… check them out too. As far as Jethro Tull and amazing flute work, check out “Reasons For Waiting” I know you haven’t heard Ian play like he does on this one yet!

Just subbed.... I really like your song choices. All the stuff I loved for years. I'm gonna suggest a song. Its one that no one ever reacts to but has some of the sweetest guitar you'll ever hear. Its called "Face The Fire" by Dan Fogelberg. Its about the Three Mile Island Nuclear power plant meltdown in Pennsylvania 1979. Very terrifying back when it happened, but no one ever talks about it anymore. Even if you dont react to it, give it a listen for yourself. You love guitar, youll love this.

White boys from The South are built different. At least 70s Southern artists were. Now everything is jumbled together and controlled by Hollywood. Every genre is controlled by the same people now, unfortunately.
Excellent reaction! And I was super thrilled to see you played the whole song without pauses or interruptions. (I subscribed to your channel for that reason) it pisses me off to the max when reactors pause the damn song every 15-20 seconds to bullshit about nothing that much relates to the song. The song just starts to groove & they pause it. There’s one channel that I refuse to watch anymore because he is constantly pausing during the songs guitar solo, as if that’s not an important part of the song. Kudos to you Bro, I hope to watch more of you. (No pauses please, lol)
Marshall Tucker, Fire on the Mountain
Live, no dubs, no auto-tune, just a band playing together in the moment - real musicians. 👍
Just caught your reaction. Loved this song!! Lead singer had a powerful unique voice. Great sound, thanks for your reaction.
One of my favorite performances of all time. The legendary Toy Caldwell.
I'd forgotten how much we loved them back in my much younger days.

Rock, soul, blues. And the universal sound of heartbreak. Doesn’t get better than this.
