“Heard it in a Love Song” is their biggest top 40 hit, though “Can’t You See” was definitely a classic rock staple.
It would be fantastic if they did that one! I have to go listen to that now.
Fire in the Mountain.
Both of those are incredible! I did a modeling gig for WWF/WCW and Heard It in A Love Song was on the car radio on our way to do an on location shoot! RIP EL Gigante
Can’t hold a candle to this song.
I love MTB. Doug sang lead most often, but this is Toy Caldwell (the fastest thumb in the south) singing lead and playing lead guitar. Toy's brother Tommy played bass. That flute is compliments of Doug Eubanks. Rhythm guitar is George McCorkle. Drums is Paul Riddle. If you know his voice, you can hear Doug Gray in the background. I love the "Carolina Dreams" album from the first note to the last.
You gotta see the live version of this song, done in some small venue in Georgia about 1971.....it's on UA-cam.
This is southern rock at it's finest. The flute solo at the beginning & end is great. Love their music from the 70's. Some of their other big hits were "Fire on the Mountain" & "Heard It in a Love Song". Southern rock fiddler Charlie Daniels did quite a few collaborations with them.
They are one of the underappreciated harmony bands. They had some good singers.
Toy Caldwell decorated Vietnam Veteran, MARINE
Very cool song and band!! “Heard it in a Love Song” is still my favorite of theirs! Acoustic guitar and flute are prominent in both! Can’t forget about “Fire on the Mountain”!!🤘🔥
Neville Brothers
Fire on the Mountain.
The original 🔥
Desert skies!!!
Toy Caldwell was a talented song writer, musician and singer . He was also a Vietnam war veteran. Great band , used to go see them live , just awesome band
LOVE this song.. I have since it came out. I am an old lady, 64, and this is the soundtrack of my youth. The 70s was definitely one of the best decades for music (followed by grunge/alternative).. the 80s.. meh... the 90s.. meh until the end of the decade. About 10 years ago I saw these dudes in their bus leaving an eating establishment in Spring, Tx. They had just finished a gig and were hitting the road again. Had to honk and wave!
Here in Canada this southern rock hits just as hard as anywhere. Southern rock is was and will remain to be the soundtrack of my life.
Flute solo; Firefall “Strange Way”. Outstanding
Oh man, guys….this is one where the live performance is really good. (Matter-of-fact, anything before 90ish, you gotta go with the video….its part of the story) keep bringing Southern Rock! 🤘😎
Back in the day, I was able to see the Marshal Tucker Band and the Charlie Daniel’s Band in concert together. What a great show! These guys are fantastic!
Marshall Tucker was one of the bands signed to Capricorn Records, which was an independent label in my hometown of Macon, Georgia. Other notable bands and artists signed to Capricorn included The Allman Brothers, Elvin Bishop, Wet Willie, Percy Sledge, and more. Capricorn Records is often credited for creating the southern rock genre.
Can't You See is one of those songs that's so damned solidly good that sometimes it gets overshadowed by other flashier songs. Just a great American, soulful song. I have seen Marshall Tucker live throughout their earlier years, and it was always guaranteed fun music you could rock to in a down-to-earth atmosphere.
Me too! MTB played the colleges hard, and did some festivals in the early days. Got to see em live 3 times. Always put it all out there every performance.
Toy Caldwell was a Marine sergeant and served in Vietnam and received a PurpleHeart. . Tommy Caldwell also served in Vietnam and was a private first class. The Caldwell brothers were the founders of the Marshall Tucker Band. Toy Caldwell died in 1993 from respiratory failure, and Tommy Caldwell died in a car accident on April 28, 1980. Tim Caldwell also passed away on March 28, 1980, from a car accident.
LOVE my Southern Rock. You guys could do Southern Rock and Yacht Rock every video and I would never get tired of it. I don't think I ever offically requested this, so...... Dreams I'll Never See - Molly Hatchet. So frickin' good. Ryan would not be able to sit still and Nick would be in his adorable-face mode for seven minutes. Nice choice. Really enjoyed this one.
This song takes me back to the 70s for sure. I saw The Marshall Tucker Band when they opened for The Allman Brothers back in the mid 70s, They performed at The Cow Palace in Oakland, Ca. Once the Allman Brothers had finished their set.... several members of Marshall Tucker came back on stage as well as Boz Scaggs. Wow... That was a LOT OF TALENT on one stage. Great concert. Take care...
Wow. Great combo.
1976 saw the Marshall Tucker Band in Boston, with Elvin Bishop as the opening act. After the first encore, the MTB asked for patience with a reset, and equipment for both bands was brought back out, and the two bands played together for more than 20 minutes - beginning with "Will the Circle Be Unbroken". Superb show.
Thier Legends! 38 Special,Molly Hatchet ,Blackfoot! Keep this Train Going!
The lead singer on this is Toy Caldwell who was the guitarist and wrote it - he was also a vet - USMC
The home of the Blues. Check out this flute.
Marshall Tucker Band was HUGE in the Midwest! St. Louis was a regular concert stop.
"flutes always sound woodsy to me.."..hmm, they are a woodwind instrument...coincidence? I think not! LOL! Great react! I'm an old fart, Marshall Tucker been with me since they began, no way to go wrong with any of their stuff, and they have a LOT! Keep on!
The first time I saw Marshall Tucker was at a roadhouse near Spartanburg.
Five dollars at the door and the first beer was free. I'd never heard of them before that.
Best $5 I ever spent.
5 star. This song will stick to you
Hey whoever was popping money in the jukebox this song was always a great choice no matter where you lived.
More southern rock please!!
This is a standard at any bar down south, and you can find it on most Waffle House jukeboxes. But it really shines at wedding receptions. Brings down the house.
Even us Pacific Northwest folks dig this!
Georgia girl in the house. This song brings back the best memories!! Thank you!!!
To me, that flute sounds breathy and warm, almost like a wooden recorder.
I can't see this as a love song, it's a song of despair over his woman walking out on him without saying goodbye. He's deeply broken over what she did, initially saying he was going to jump off the highest mountain, or find a hole in the wall to crawl inside and die. This is the beginning of recovery from a relationship that went deeply wrong, but it's when the emotional wounds are still bleeding.
I am so happy Ryan got his beginning and end flute it’s such a high to see you both love the peace this song brings, love ya both
That is one of the best southern rock bands.. my husband still has the vinyl album from the 1970s when he was in high school.. ❤
my favorite song of theirs is the best post-breakup song I've ever heard-- "this old cowboy." If you wanna react to more of them, you really can't miss on that one.
I always felt the flute was the sound of the train starting its way to Georgia and again at the end as it makes its final steps of its journey there.
The live version is great
Still played in the local small town bars and on classic rock radio stations.
Classic, stellar, southern toe tapping RnR!! Thanks, I enjoyed this.
Hmmmmm....that flute at the beginning sounded a LOT like the "Old Spice" button!! :D :D :D :D :D ENJOY, GUYS!! LOVE MARSHALL TUCKER BAND!!!
Toy Caldwell!!!!
No pick for Toy Caldwell. Used his thumb to great advantage. RIP Toy and Tommy ❤
This takes me back to the 70s. That’s all I can say.
These guys where great in concert
There's a live performance of this tune that is worth watching.
This song in headphones is quite different from how I've always heard it on the radio. Gives it a whole new life.
Saw these guys on Long Island as the main group, in the 80s The opening act was Jimmy Buffet. 1/3rd the fans at this place called Sundance were Tucker fans, and 1/3rd Buffet fans. The rest of us enjoyed both to the fullest.
As you like MTB, if you haven't already, check out the Ozark Mountain Daredevils and their hits Jackie Blue and If You Wanna Get to Heaven. You'll love them.
I’m 66 and that song, along with several more Marshall Tickets songs, has been on my playlist for well over 50 years now! I never get tired of it! ❤
Boy, that song really takes me back!
The guy who sings this song always reminds me of Roger Daultrey of The Who.
Black Stone Cherry do an amazing cover of this!!!
The performance of this song is awesome. One of my favorite tunes, it's moving and performed by a bunch of talented musicians. Toy Caldwell wrote beautiful music and his voice will grab you.
The small venue in Georgia is a "must see." 🔥
Dudes. React to "This Ol' Cowboy". A collage of different Instruments.
I love this song so much, thank you for covering it. ❤
Fire on the Mountain!!
Your picks have been so good, for the last couple months!!!!
It's only 8 and I have heard it 2x today already... 😂
I think Heard It In a Love Song was a bigger hit for them, and it is definitely a major ear worm.
It's perfection. Especially with better sound than on an old car radio or bedside clock-radio.
🔺️ I'd like to know if someone knows of a favorite live version. It must have been a great song for them at a concert.
Love the flute in this song!!!
Love this song! Still listen to it. Puts you in a mood in a good way.
Wow a blind piano tuner and you're doing the song Can't You See
Waylon Jennings also had a great cover of this song.
Great reaction, song puts a smile on your face!
I've always loved this song and to be honest I wasn't sure how you were going to feel about it. Pleasant surprise 😁
Love that flute. And Toy Caldwell's lead guitar, bending those strings.
Fooseball. And pickled eggs. And that shuffleboard game with the sawdust.
THANK GAHD! I was waiting for some reaction channel to do MTB
Take The Highway is a song you should consider checking out. Thanks guys. ☮🖤🤘🎹🎸🥁🎤
Lawd,,,,it hurts sooooo much. 😥😥😥👍
Funny that you said that about hearing it in the headphones.
My first time for hearing almost all of the old songs was from a little transistor radio under my pillow listening to WLS on AM radio.
When I listen now I think, Where did all of these instruments in stereo come from.
Nice one Boy's, nice one...
This band was at their very best when performing live! A great album to check out of theirs is a live album called Stompin Room Only! Fantastic!
We are from Florida, and Memory Lane played this and morphed the ending into the Hey Jude chorus, as the chords work for both songs.
I'll never forget the first time I heard this song. I was in my aunt's attic listening to it on an LP.
My Sister's boyfriend rented the top floor of my aunt's house, and I was skipping school hiding out there playing his albums and ran across The Marshall Tucker Band. Well, that day I became a fan.
Nice painting.
Bad Mamma Jamma Song ...excellent
Born and raised just an hr or so from Spartanburg S.C., I grew up listening to this band. I'm in my 50's now, but they were huge back in the 70's to early 80's. And your right, as a teen living in a rural area I spent many a summer evening in my 77' Grand Prix, windows down, woods and farmland going by and the MTB cassette in the tape player cranked to 10!
In Upstate New York, where I grew up and as a 14 year old in 1980 this was our jam. NYC probably not so much.
Saw Marshall Tucker open for Grateful Dead sept 1977 in englishtown. NJ awesome day 90,000 people in a field by RaceWay park
You should check out the live version of this at the Mohegan Sun Casino with Marshall Tucker and Desiree Bassett
Ahhh. This is the comment I was hoping to find. 👍
I was just thinking about that headphone thing when you commented. Truth.
I worked their show a couple days ago. This was the last song they played..Only one original member left
Classic!
Guys, check out " Rock Me Gently" by Andy Kim. Huge hit in 70s by Canadian artist.
Heard it in a Love Song !
Take the Highway and 24 Hours At a Time.
LOSING YOU, HILLBILLY BAND, SEE YOU LATER I'M GONE, MY JESUS TOLD ME SO, off this same album.
The smile on Nick is priceless. I love it.
Tennessee here and it doesn't get no better than this!!! SWEEEEET TUNE
I saw these guys back in the 90s at a cool club called the Sting. Check out their song Flirting With Disaster. It’s a real banger. This is a pretty song. ✌️❤️
The background behind you reminds me of home. BTW, 5-way for dinner tonight.
Also, building rented by a blind piano tuner.....the song recorded by the next renter.....
" cant you see?" 😊
Oh yeah this is a great song!
Great band. Toy could play! I saw them, with Jefferson Starship, on the Bicentennial. Their live LP, Where We All Belong, features Charlie Daniels on “24 Hours at a Time”, an essential Road Tune. ✌️❤️🎶
Great singer, great band.❤
Great to hear this again. With regards to the Midwest, Southern rock--including this song--received regular rotation on Detroit radio, as well as at the bars. (And yes, usually those small ones with the smoke and the pool tables.😄)
Nice musical and lyrical breakdown by the guys here. It would have been awesome to here a comparison with the recent ELP/prog rock song. There is something about the country and R&B base to most Southern rock from that era that typically makes it a more worthwhile listen for me than most, not all, 1970s prog rock. I was glad that both Nick and Ryan brought up the guitar and piano work with the vocals. Great stuff! Another quality and entertaining video on the board for the guys. 😁
#BobRossAlbumCover 😂
#SouthernAllOverThePlace (Note: That's a great t-shirt slogan with your logo for the merch store. You're welcome!) 😂
Another new one on me and loved it! Going to listen to it again.
This song makes me feel for the person that has gone through a rough relationship!😢 this singer sire sings it with emotion! Is this a one hit wonde???😊❤
Not a one hit wonder. They had many great songs. Check out Fire on the Mountain
Damn, what'd she do? 😊
a suggestion for you guys "I can't hold you back now" TOTO. enjoy
There’s a version with an extended flute intro.
