Toy lost both his younger brothers within a month of each other to car accidents. He was also a United States Marine Corps Vietnam War combat vet (WIA). That's him singing with incredible soul and thumb picking that beautiful Gibson Les Paul. Thank you for everything brother. Rest easy.
@@williamcabell142 Not all the time. Look at the Allman Brothers. Most of the time they were straight up blues. Seems like they all had their special sound. As far as just country and blues well you are very wrong. I've even picked up some jazz and blue grass tactics at times in southern rock. Really it had more to do with the times. Back in the 70's record companies let the artists be artists.
Yes the trinity of southern rock I like that way of phrasing that way.I noticed a comment adding Charlie Daniel's yes indeed.Plus another one of my favorites the Outlaws
The first time I heard this song was like getting hit in the heart by a new, powerful emotion never felt before. A pivotal song in the history of Southern rock.
@@michaelasay8587 Mood music. it evokes emotional response. Desperation, turmoil, heartbreak. Angela got it right, focusing on the intro (flute) and the outro (harmonies) Rock n Roll can be at it's best when it mirrors teenage angst. And music is always about individual response. Could be Beethoven. Can be Jay-Z.
Marshall Band was discovered by another band named Wet Willie, the first keyboard is very good friend of mine give them listen they are from Mobile, AL.
I was raised on this music. still a great song . Yes Lynyrd Skynyrd , Allman Brothers, great tunes . Marshall Tucker was just the name of the band not anyone's name in the band.
This was live at The Grand Opera House at Mercer University Macon GA. I have seen them countless times live too. Been so close at the stage LOL felt Toys spit. Sad, he died on cocaine ingestion in 1993. I am a Southern boy born and raise.
The Marshall Tucker Band - Can't You See ----Lead singer Toy Caldwell was a Marine during the Vietnam War. He was wounded and discharged from service in 1968. The Spartanburg chapter of the Marine Corps League is named the Hutchings-Caldwells Detachment in honor of Toy, his brother Tommy and another Marine, Pvt Nolan Ryan Hutchings, who was killed during the Iraq Invasion in 2003>>>>that is from Wiki. I lived in Greenville S.C. from 2005-2008 and I am a Marine veteran, so I pay attention to that kind of stuff. Liked your reaction.
Never saw this video. Anyway, this was one of their bigger hits for sure. Even though its southern rock, i recall it being on FM radio all the time. Good song👍
😮I can't believe you've never seen this before. This song has been easily in my top 5 favorites since back in the 70s, and one of my favorite videos since the 80s.
Hi Ms. D., I love, love this song, did I mention that I love this some.. Brings back feelings for me and a lot of fellows.. 'Gonna find a Hole and crawl inside and die': means find a bar and drink till he passes out.. ♠Mr.G..
Marshall TUCKER Band was part of the Southern rock Movement. Great Band. Check out other good songs by them "Heard it in a Love Song" and "Fire on the Mountain."
One of my personal biographical songs. MTB was one of the first southern rock bands along with Skynyrd and Allman Bros, but kept it more of a country sound. They also made playing the flute cool in rock music like Ian Anderson of Jethro Tull. Also check out their "Fire on the Mountain", "Heard it in a Love Song".
The Name of the Band came from an old blind piano tuner! The Lead Guitarist and Singer on that Song was The Late Great Toy Caldwell, the Main Songwriter, and the Heart & Soul of the MTB! One of the Greatest Southern Rock Bands of the 1970's!
You hid it well on if you liked it. I love this song and if I remember right? He is not the lead singer but the band let him belt it out. You’re Gorgeous and so happy you loved it. Your right great road trip song, either in a car or a Harley. Keep your great work up. Thank you. Steven.
There was no band member named "Marshall Tucker". Originally, the band called itself The Toy Factory (named after lead-guitarist Toy Caldwell). But by the time the band released its first album they had become the Marshall Tucker Band. During a radio interview in Hempstead, NY in 1973, Tommy Caldwell explained the origins of the band's name: "There's an old blind dude that tunes pianos, and his name is Marshall Tucker… We didn't name the band after him, but we just kind of liked that name and stuck with it."
Toy last song midnight promises is great he wrote it for his teenage daughter in 93 i think gregg allman sang on it to there the pride an joy of Spartanburg sc
Listen to Fire on the Mountain by Marshall Tucker, a country rock version of Hotel California! This band is after Leonard Skynyrd number two of Southern Country Rock bands, yes better than Allman Brothers and that says a lot!
Another great review Angela, I love your style! To answer the questions you posed, The "Marshall Tucker" in the band's name does not refer to a band member, rather to a blind piano tuner from Columbia, South Carolina. The lead guitarist and sunger and primaruy song writer for the band was named Toy Caldwell. Sadly he is no longer with us.
DayOne Reacts, you are correct when you say this band sounds like Lynyrd Skynyrd. The Marshal Tucker band was also from the South and part of what become known as Southern Rock in the 70's. Sadly, Toy Caldwell, the lead singer, passed away shortly after the release of this song and album.
But often it's a gold nugget. You know, for some people it's not gonna hit or out with everybody. I'll route? But a marshall like on a song called virginia virginia by the martin
My favorite song by them is Heard It In A Love Song! It's pretty groovy and 🔥 fire! This one you're featuring is very sad with a defeating mindset, but I can understand his situation! Oh boy, relationships can be a BEAR 🐻 from both genders perspectives! Good luck y'all! Just don't settle for an AI girlfriend or boyfriend! See ya!
How about some Eddie EDRA rabbit he does? I love a rainy night. I love a rainy night. Always have an especially in the summer. Oh it's refreshing I just love the raining out
I used to like this song but that was before one of my old bands decided to cover it just to shut up my old rhythm guitarist..The crowds loved it and we’d get stuck playing it a couple times every weekend night at the bars we’d play in which after so many times just gets annoying lol..This does bring back great memories of being in bands and gigging every weekend..All and all it’s not a bad one I just got sick of it lol
Also, you know everyone loves bacon it. Love's debate it Hey, you know what? I don't know why no man or just in love with Baton stuff and we're specially like it when we're beating the odds bait. No odds that's a molly hatchet molly hatchet bait the odds
The white Marshall Tucker did it whether they did it. Their own way I had a song It had Charlie Daniels on the fiddle. And it was called in my own way by marshall
Southern Rock at its finest. Toy Caldwell [lead singer ] was a Vietnam vet, sadly no longer with us.
💯
He developed the thumb style of picking because of shrapnel taken in his arm.
Toy lost both his younger brothers within a month of each other to car accidents. He was also a United States Marine Corps Vietnam War combat vet (WIA). That's him singing with incredible soul and thumb picking that beautiful Gibson Les Paul. Thank you for everything brother. Rest easy.
Great reaction the singer Toy Caldwell [lead singer ] was a Vietnam vet, and was awarded the purple heart , RIP
Thank you for your service. Good Luck and God Bless.
Back when music was music. Not so much today. I’m still listening to my music from those days.
Always loved the groove of this song. They definitely combined Southern Rock and Blues very nicely.
Southern Rock is Country, and Blues! Don’t speak out your back side!

Iconic Southern rock! I’ve always loved it!
YOU ARE THE CREAM OF THE CROP WHEN IT COMES TO PODCAST MUSIC DARLIN KEEP UP THE AMAZING WORK ❤️👍
The song is about vets serving over seas getting Dear John letters from their women back home. Whiskey Luliby has a similar story line.
Marshall Tucker band along with Lynyrd Skynyrd and the Allman Brothers band are considered the Trinity of Southern Rock
Don't Forget The Charlie Daniels Band! Let's Make it 4!!
Wow there are so many Southern Rock bands I have heard all of them live but not LS sadly.
Yes the trinity of southern rock I like that way of phrasing that way.I noticed a comment adding Charlie Daniel's yes indeed.Plus another one of my favorites

Love this song. Love how they can just stand there and create a whole vibe.
I think you would enjoy
Heard it in a love song
Fire on the mountain

That's talent right there
No auto tune. Met them when they had a gig at my university. The sweetest folks in the world.
THE GUITARIST , ALSO THE SINGER , WROTE THE SONG ! HE WAS ONE OF MY FAVORITES FROM BACK THEN !
Marshall Tucker was a blind piano turner that they named their band after. He was not in the band.
A truly great band
Saw them many times in concert! Love their songs.
One of the greatest songs, ever.
Yes!!
The first time I heard this song was like getting hit in the heart by a new, powerful emotion never felt before. A pivotal song in the history of Southern rock.
And my own wife by Marshall. Marshall if I got a charlie with them all now
Totally agree...What an iconic tune !
The late great Toy Caldwell. Had to put this one in my Top 100 songs of all time, just for the heart of his vocals. Harmonies pretty good too
Top 100? I'd like to know you're other 99! Lol...
It's gotta be in Mt Top 20.

The blues influence is so obvious ..nobody in the band was named Marshall Tucker.I saw them live in concert and they were awesome.
Marshall Tucker Band along with The Allman Brothers and Lynyrd Skynyrd are considered the 3 icons of southern rock.
Marshall Band was discovered by another band named Wet Willie, the first keyboard is very good friend of mine give them listen they are from Mobile, AL.
if that doesn't light a fire in your fireplace, your wood is wet

This was live at The Grand Opera House at Mercer University Macon GA. I have seen them countless times live too. Been so close at the stage LOL felt Toys spit. Sad, he died on cocaine ingestion in 1993. I am a Southern boy born and raise.
He had come back from the Vietnam War a couple of years before that . He was wounded and returned to be with his Marine brothers
They say he was a drug addict, but who knew what demons chased him in his dreams...
You mentioned Lynyrd Skynyrd. Time for them to make another appearance on your channel. I think you would really enjoy "Call Me the Breeze."
They do a great job on this JJ Cale classic !
