This is not a personal incident that Toy wrote about. Toy served as a Marine in Vietnam. He saw so many of his friends getting "Dear John" letters from their girlfriends and wives, just when the soldiers needed their support the most. It broke Toy's heart to see his buddies go through such pain. So Toy expressed his pain over his friends pain the only way he knew how. Semper Fi.

My husband said he saw the same thing when he was there. He was seventeen when he enlisted in '69 and didn't have a girlfriend but watched a lot of guys go through it. He said it hurt him to see tough, battle weary people just fall to pieces. He watched a guy go through a plate glass door to try and kill himself after reading the letter. It was all so heartbreaking.

Oh I 110% understand this! Besides the fact that I adore & LOVE The Marshall Tucker Band… my husband left for Iraq only 9 months after we married for an entire 15 months from 06-07 as a Cav Scout in the 82nd Airborne. We as a couple made it through without any trust issue or either of us being unfaithful but unfortunately, half of his Unit were getting cheating on and it was absolutely devastating! I was only 19 when my husband was in Iraq, and only married for 9 months before he left but I myself knew exactly what I was signing up for & he was going to leave. I made a promise to him, and I kept that promise. I can NEVER understand why those women would go out and cheat on their Husbands or boyfriends while they are overseas fighting for our Country, fighting for their lives, and need support the most from them. So yes, it’s a big problem our Service men & women have been dealing with for centuries while on a duty of tour and it’s absolutely disgusting! Also.. there are some of us military Spouses that are great women who love, & support our men through it all no matter what. God Bless our Troops & America! ❤️🇺🇸🤟🏻

I love the blues and understand what a significant part the blues played on all genres of music here in the good ‘ole USA. I wanna personally thank you.. for your channel and how you help bring all of us together. Much love & success from your subscriber & friend.

This is southern rock at it's finest. Love their music from the 70's. Some of their other big hits were "Heard It In A Love Song", "Fire On The Mountain", "Ramblin’", "This Ol' Cowboy", "Searching For A Rainbow" etc. Southern rock fiddler Charlie Daniels did quite a few collaborations with them such as "24 Hours At A Time".

Marshall Tucker Band is timeless. Toy cadwell set it up that way... he is one of the most under appreciated, Guitarist, singer song writers God has given use. It was all about the music for him... That is why the Marshal Tucker had dozens of members and only one surviving original member. I love how you recognize how Toy sings Lord (Lawd)

A common misconception is that southern rock is rock influenced by country music. It's actually heavily steeped in the blues, and this is a prime example of that. The pain in his voice, the way his guitar cries during the leads - that's 100% blues and soul. Recommend you check out Lynyrd Skynyrd's Ballad of Curtis Loew, Allman Brothers' Melissa, Blackfoot's Highway Song, and Black Crowes' Remedy.
