Hey man, I'm an old school southern rocker, actually joined the military in the early 70s to get a free trip around the world and jam, that was a good move cause I've met several members from MT, skynyrd, outlaws,ect...I'm glad to see you and younger generations digging this style of music, cause it's REAL, and from the heart, you asked about the singer Toy Caldwell, well he was drafted into Vietnam, when he got out him and his brother put the band together, for some reason Toy decided to take himself out which seems to be popular with a lot of southern rockers unfortunately, Doug Gray does most of the singing now, Southern Rock is greatly influenced by other cultures and glad you are sharing it, sounds a lot better than a car that sounds like it's got busted speakers playing wide open, most Southern Rock is written by poor folks who lived what they write about, thanks for what you do,..peace✌
I'd completely forgotten this band over the years. I'm really starting to feel my age when listening to some of these classics. A time when talent instead of technology ruled the airwaves and stages. No auto-tune, lip sync or dependency on being flashy. Just plain old talent.
I started listening to Marshall Tucker band back in the 70s when I was in college. Became an instant fan even though I never cared for anything even close to country music before. These guys were different. They rocked. I still listen to all their old albums. Of course the band was never the same after the Caldwell brothers died.
The Caldwell brothers were from Moore South Carolina about 30 miles from where I live and I have always had kin living in Moore and would ride by an old two story brick school house that they used to record some of their songs in. I remember hearing on the radio years ago back in the 70's that they got their name by one of the brothers finding a keyring in an abandoned car shed or barn and the keyring had the name, "Marshall Tucker" on it and they named the band after the name on the keyring.
Toy Caldwell (The lead singer and guitar) - US Marine, wounded in the Vietnam War. 1968. His two brothers Tommy (The bass player) and a younger brother Tim both died in traffic accidents in 1980 about 1 month apart
There are much better Marshall Tucker songs...Take The Highway, See You Later, I'm Gone, In My Own Way, Fire on the Mountain, You Ain't Foolin' Me, and many more.
A flute in a southern rock/blues band? It doesn't seem to make sense, yet it is a perfect, mournful, haunting sound. "Can't You See" has been in my playlist for years. This was such a great era of music! MTB is timeless. Keep it up Syde! You are a constant encouragement with your love and respect of all kinds of music! God bless!!
I'm from an hr up I85 from their hometown of Spartanburg, SC. Growing up in the 70's their music was played heavily in my household. Being from their area I've seen them live many times, met them backstage at a concert in Charlotte NC in late 80's before Toy Caldwell passed. In fact their autograph's are framed on the wall in my music corner. Very humble, nice group of guy's. Typical southern gents.
This song is for all genres .. everyone likes it.. I think.. some songs are like that.. everyone can call it .. I think everyone, even classical music lovers will like it
Toy Caldwell. He was a Marine rifleman in Vietnam. He was awarded a Bronze Star and a Purple Heart. As you can see, the didn't use a guitar pick. He didn't use a wah wah pedal. He didn't use a whammy bar. He used his thumb. He wrote this song. Greg Allman shot himself in the foot to prevent being drafted into the army.
This is one of those very rare songs that the music and the lyrics were a pure melding of emotional excellence . If a person cannot feel this song, not hear it, but feel it, then they never had a hard thing happen to them
Drama, that's Toy Caldwell - "The fastest thumb in the south". That's his brother Tommy next to him on bass, Toy did most of the song writing, but the guy on the far end - Doug Gray - most often sang lead. That's Jerry Eubanks on the flute and George McCorkle on rhythm guitar. Drummer is Paul Riddle. I loved these guys. They blended genres and instruments into their songs that made their brand of Southern Rock unique. Anything off of "Carolina Dreams" is great. Played that album to death. You sometimes forget just how awesome the '70s were. RIP to the MTB members who have passed. Charlie can play fiddle for you guys.
Glad you finally got to react to MTB if I had a dollar for every time I listen to this I could damn near retire. His looks don't match his voice. Great band one of my favorites Great Reaction as always Stay Safe ❤️
That is Toy Caldwell singing and playing lead guitar. He developed the strumming with his thumb as a result of a wound to his right arm in Vietnam. 👍👍👍
The greatest country drinking song ever recorded...'Too Stubborn'- The Marshall Tucker Band. I have no idea if it would be blocked. Whether or not, check it out. 🍻
Checkout “Am I the kind of man”, “Heard it in a love song”, “Holding onto you”, “Take the Highway”, “My Jesus told me so”, “Searching for a rainbow”, “This old cowboy”, “Ramblin” to name a few. I love what you do. Keep going sir.
MTB had a unique sound. Little bit of Creedence, little bit of Allman Bros. Little bit of others. Very soulful band. The video was not censored, just a recording glitch. Like it when you dig in to a new music that you love. I’m sure the comments will lead you to your next reaction. 🔥🔥
Back when Music was Music with no additives. There’s Great Music from Great Musicians in the 70’s And 80’s. No auto tuning. No fixing the vocals. Back when Music was great and the songs actually meant something and they all told a story. The Marshall Tucker Band is definitely one of the Greats. Love this reaction! Great job Michael! Keep’em coming. ♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️
Since you're liking the Southern Rock, check out Atlanta Rhythm Section. I suggest "Who You Gonna Run To" for starters. They had many good songs. One of my go-to private collections.
Marshall Tucker was the first (and so far only) concert I ever paid to go to. Back on m 21st birthday, back in 95. It was at the Boathouse in Norfolk Va. I grew up on these guys and have always loved their music. A wonderful mix of lyric and music.
What Up DS, This is my favorite Band, yes, above the Stones, Toy Cauldwell is singing and he writes the songs, Tommy his brother plays bass, but he's not the lead singer, he only sang a few of their songs, Doug Grey is their amazing singer, their catalog is so extensive, I don't know where to begin, check out 24 HOURS AT A TIME LIVE.
i am 60 year old white guy from utah and i grew up with this band and zzpot lenerd skinnerd. they all rocked the house. it was a great time in my life i couldnt imagen not ever hereing this kind of music ,so i guesse im kinda blessed that way. ive been where this song takes you and im there now again true to life dont know if i got it in me to do another round but its been a hellava lot of fun while it lasted lol love music i just hope that they got music on the other side,,be true to your selfs and gods love
I know you dont always agree, but to those of us that grew up in this era,the original writer AND singer will always be the best. God bless our gen, because most of us knew exactly what was happening, and we always loved the originals the best. You got blocked a little bit may be? I don't know. This song meant so much to us in my generation. Still relevant today.for sure.
Toy Caldwell wasn’t censored. The tape failed briefly. I believe it was something about her being ‘cause my lady, now a mean old woman lord Never told Me goodbye.
"Cause my lady now, mean ol woman Lord, never told me goodbye" was the part that got cut out for some unknown reason. My favorite song by the the way. Toy Caldwell the lead singer was a Vietnam vet who rocked.
One more outstanding southern band. Pending Viet Nam vet, Marine Sgt to be, Toy Caldwell singing lead on this tune gives it standard status. Don't stop here because they could rock the house down loaded with talent as they were.
More Marshall Tucker please"fire on the mountain","heard it in a love song","searchin for a rainbow","this ol cowboy", and"24 hours at a time" live performance with Charlie Daniels on fiddle is awesome. RIP Toy and Tommy Caldwell ☮️
I've seen these guys three times. All three times here in Virginia. Last time was at the Norfolk, VA Boat House. Man, they are damn good. The flute it my favorite. Thanks so much for your time and reaction, Sir. ✌️❤️
This was the anthem of my Sr year of high school. Southern Rock was king in those years. MTB, CDB, ABB, Skynyrd, ZZ Top, Barefoot Jerry, Elvin Bishop (who had played with the Paul Butterfield Blues Band). As you are seeing, they kicked ass and took names. Loving your reactions to the music I grew up on. Keep em coming.
Another great reaction!!! I am borderline shocked w your love and knowledge of music you didn't know this one. I was born in the early 80's, I don't know how or where but I feel like I have known and lived this song since I was a kid!!! Hope your still doing well, appreciate your positive message and message you deliver!! Keep it up!
This song... This song hits me square in the gut every time I hear it... I could be on top of the world and this song will instantly bring back every bad memory I have had with the women in my life. It is only two of them, but both times I lost my heart...
Great review!! Old enough to have seen them in person in 1978. Outstanding band and music. Toy, by the way was awarded a Purple Heart in Vietnam while with the Marines. Keep them coming.
Toy was a great guitar player and singer. Doug Gray has a one of kind voice as well. These guys are one of my favorite bands. Takes me back. They have a deep catalog. A lot of good music
First reaction I’ve seen from you, and the hook was Marshall Tucker Band (my 3 year old is named Tucker). Learning this was #2 for you after hearing Fire on the Mountain...I must say you’ve got a good ear. Took you to church was what this band could do every night, and that’s powerful. I’m almost 40 and I’m way too young to have known in person, but I know someone who did and they have given me all the old recordings. Truly one of the best bands of the 60’s and 70’s....the greatest eras of music IMO. Do yourself a favor a huge favor and at worst find “Stompin Room Only” by the Marshall Tucker Band. I think it’s on iTunes and whatnot. You think Toy Caldwell has vocals...wait till you hear Doug Grey in the magnificent cover of “The Thrill Is Gone”. Man the blues’ll take you away on that album. I hope you find it and give it a listen. Thanks for the video. I really enjoyed it.
I don’t know how many times I’ve commented on this video, but I can’t help it! It’s one of my favorites, and still one of the best reactions I’ve seen. And if you don’t know what I’m talking about, it ain’t for you. 😄😆😂🤣
Im from the Burg. My moms went to Dorman high school ( not the university of Dorman) with them, pops went to spartan high with Paul. They were, are, and always be the pride and joy of Sparkle City. Toy was talented beyond measure, he is killin that les paul with his thumb yall. Think about that.
Im from the Burg. This rite here is the pride and joy of a town built on music. The dude Pink Floyd named themselves after is from here too. Sparkle city. MTB.....the rest of the world .....yall welcome
The singer is the late, great Toy Caldwell. I saw Marshall Tucker Band in Myrtle Beach S. C., but it unfortunately it was after Toy’s passing. I think they are from South Carolina.
One of my favorite bands of all time. Growing up as a kid in the 70’s my dad listened to this non stop. If you get a chance to listen to the song Virginia by MTB...whoa.
It just doesn't get any better than classic Southern Rock! The Marshall Tucker band was from the Spartanburg, SC area & I was lucky enough to see them at the Salem (VA) Civic Center with The Steve Miller Band! WHAT A SHOW! Check out "Heard It in a Love Song"! Keep on keeping on Drama! Peace, love and stay safe!🔥🤘
I am a 56 year old guitar slinger and have been playing this song for 46 years. It is a great song to jam on. Watch the singer who is also the lead player. Watch how he uses his thumb. I can play this song note for note but not with my thumb. His name is Toy Caldwell
Boy does this bring back some memories. These guys, The Charlie Daniels Band, and The Allman Bros. The 1970s were great for all genres of music, including "Southern Rock."
No fancy light show , no back up dancers, no over the top stage show. Just musicians and their songs.
Toy Caldwell was a Monster player, singer and songwriter. He made the Marshall Tucker Band a toally class act.
And a kickass Marine.
Picking with his thumb is pretty damn badass too!
Absolutely agree!
Toy Caldwell is one of the most underrated musicians of all time. What a talent! War veteran, purple heart recipient and a class act.
Toy Caldwell and Marshall Tucker were kinda overlooked, I loved this band, them and Allman Brothers band.
🤠When someone says "LAWD," you know they mean it! Mr. Caldwell was the real deal. He is sorely missed. 🙏🎸🎤
Saw Marshall Tucker Lynyrd Skynyrd and Charlie Daniels in the Orange Bowl in 1975 quite the party
What A SHOW!
Thanks for your time and your Channel . You have some really good reactions. If you don't mind try" This Ol Cowboy " by Marshall Tucker
Wow You just made me jealous! Who was the best ?
That would of been as good as it gets. Can't think of a better line up.
Damn.
I'd completely forgotten this band over the years. I'm really starting to feel my age when listening to some of these classics. A time when talent instead of technology ruled the airwaves and stages. No auto-tune, lip sync or dependency on being flashy. Just plain old talent.
My brother graduated high school in 1974. I can remember him driving his 1970 Chevelle SS with this song blaring from the 8-track tape. Good times!
Toy Caldwell sang lead , and played lead guitar on this . A few short years before this , he was packing an M16 in Vietnam .
I started listening to Marshall Tucker band back in the 70s when I was in college. Became an instant fan even though I never cared for anything even close to country music before. That 'break' was no censorship , simply 1970s recording technology.
Toy Caldwell was a Vietnam vet. Marine Corps. Received a purple heart for being wounded in action.
Toy Caldwell (The lead singer and guitar) - US Marine, wounded in the Vietnam War. 1968. His two brothers Tommy (The bass player) and a younger brother Tim both died in traffic accidents in 1980 about 1 month apart
Tragic...those poor parents and family!
Brothers name was Tommy
Man was a genius 🥰
Hey Guy You'll love Marshall Tucker Band (heard it in a love song)
Nice request
There are much better Marshall Tucker songs...Take The Highway, See You Later, I'm Gone, In My Own Way, Fire on the Mountain, You Ain't Foolin' Me, and many more.
A mess of greens cooked up with a bunch of lard and bacon? My friend, that’s not dinner, it’s desert.
Don't forget the pepper'

Marshall tucker band is considered one of the holy trinity of southern rock. Along with skynerd and the Allman Brothers!!!!!
I'm from an hr up I85 from their hometown of Spartanburg, SC. Growing up in the 70's their music was played heavily in my household. "a plate of fried okra..." I almost hit the floor laughing.
...and collard greens. I lost it! 😂
Marshall Tucker Band is a hidden gem that few have heard or know. I was first introduced to MTB in 1983, I was 19 years old. Their work is fantastic.
This song is for all genres .. everyone likes it.. I think.. some songs are like that.. everyone can call it .. I think everyone, even classical music lovers will like it
Spent the night at Toy and Tommy's apartment in Spartanburg SC. We played the Spartanburg pop festival with them. They were known as the toy factory.
That's sssooooooo very awesome bro.

Toy Caldwell - Marshall Tucker was a piano tuner in the hall they played at.
It's the original recording I believe not censorship
Edit: Original Live Recording/ Video
Drama, that's Toy Caldwell - "The fastest thumb in the south". The irony was a Marine with a Purple Heart from combat in Vietnam was lamenting about the pain inflicted by his woman.
Glad you finally got to react to MTB if I had a dollar for every time I listen to this I could damn near retire.
His looks don't match his voice.
Great band one of my favorites
Great Reaction as always Stay Safe ❤️
“A plate of fried okra...collard greens...” I know exactly what you’re talking about. Grew it, picked it, cooked it, ate it!
"Searchin For a Rainbow" Should be next with Marshall Tucker.
Great reaction love Marshall Tucker Band
I appreciate your take on the song. The old school puts out a vibe that grabs a hold of you and doesn't let go until the last note is struck!
That is Toy Caldwell singing and playing lead guitar. He developed the strumming with his thumb as a result of a wound to his right arm in Vietnam. 👍👍👍
I loved me some Southern rock coffee
Ohhh!!! The beer I've drank to that bands music!! Literally thousands 🤣 ✌
Ooof. Same. And how many bar bands I've heard butcher it. 🤦 😂
The greatest country drinking song ever recorded...'Too Stubborn'- The Marshall Tucker Band. I have no idea if it would be blocked. Whether or not, check it out. 🍻
Great reaction! I've loved MTB for years now, glad to see others discovering them.
Love this band. One of my favorite southern rock bands.
Toy Caldwell, a Marine Corp Vet from the Viet Nam War. singing from the SOUL

Searching For A Rainbow!
Bob Away My Blues. Doug Gray's vocals really shine there.
Yes sir, southern rock is some bad ass shit!!! Love it!!! Listen to this song all the time!!! Never seen this live cut!!! 😍👍❤👌🙏
MTB had a unique sound. Little bit of Creedence, little bit of Allman Bros. Little bit of others. Very soulful band. The video was not censored, just a recording glitch. Like it when you dig in to a new music that you love. I’m sure the comments will lead you to your next reaction. 🔥🔥

The sound drop on this song was a technical error on the video you are watching.
Listen to the live version of “24 hours at a time “ with Charlie Daniels on fiddle. . A brilliant masterpiece. 👏
Classic Deep Track
"Cant you see, Ohh cant you see, what AOC has been doin to me" haha i just kid 😆

Lord I can’t take it to much longer! What a great line. Love this song and especially this live version it’s perfect!

Have always loved this song so well written and so well played, it has a blues sound and the of course that Gibson brings out a smooth southern sound.
So awesomely arranged and executed.
I was 15 years old when this album was released
It was the first LP I ever puchased...and I still have it.
An all time favorite.
i am 60 year old white guy from utah and i grew up with this band and zzpot lenerd skinnerd. they all rocked the house. it was a great time in my life i couldnt imagen not ever hereing this kind of music ,so i guesse im kinda blessed that way. ive been where this song takes you and im there now again true to life dont know if i got it in me to do another round but its been a hellava lot of fun while it lasted lol love music i just hope that they got music on the other side,,be true to your selfs and gods love

MTB is Blues meets Rock meets the South. They are also the only southern rock band that I’ve encountered that successfully implemented the flute.
Toy Caldwell wasn’t censored. The tape failed briefly. I believe it was something about her being ‘cause my lady, now a mean old woman lord
Never told Me goodbye.
This is the most honest, precise, and correct reaction in the history of reactions. You sir “get it”
Lot of people call this southern rock. I call it southern blues
Fire on the Mountain, is another good song by them
I love southern rock too, completely understand and agree.
When I was a kid listened to this on the radio to go to sleep. Good memories.
That’s the end of the sentence, not censored. Really love this old song, thank you for your service, sir!
First time I saw them it was in a bar in Spartanburg, SC. $5 at the door and the first beer was free.
Nuway maybe?
I now think of the concerts I went to in my youth as lots of blessing's and Marshall Tucker Band is one of them. Enjoy

I've seen these guys three times. All three times here in Virginia. Last time was at the Norfolk, VA Boat House. Man, they are damn good. The flute it my favorite.
Thanks so much for your time and reaction, Sir.
✌️❤️
Great song. Great group. Great review. Always a pleasure

Just months before he (Toy Caldwell) was surviving in the jungles of Vietnam.......Talented Badass is an understatement RIP.....

Played every time a belt went across backside.... love you Mom..RIP
This channel is for everybody. That's what I love about you, your analysis, and your energy. Nicely done!
Toy was a great guitar player and singer. Doug Gray has a one of kind voice as well. These guys are one of my favorite bands. Takes me back. They have a deep catalog. A lot of good music
Saw this band live in 77 (give or take) in Champaign Illinois...
Macon Georgia the central hub for southern rock. Toy was a Marine in Vietnam 1968. MTB was from South Carolina. Notice no pick in Toy's hand.

Love hearing hometown boys from Spartanburg SC!🤘🎸👊
same! born and raised in spartanburg and still reside here now!
Im from the Burg. This rite here is the pride and joy of a town built on music. The dude Pink Floyd named themselves after is from here too. Sparkle city. MTB.....the rest of the world .....yall welcome
One of the best songs ever written!! Nobody can do it like The M T B
Hog mauls, collard greens black eyed peas and crackling cornbread. I know what you're talking about.
The touch of the music... EXACTLY!!!!💙💙💙
Great blues song
I know..... and you better believe it!
The singer is the late, great Toy Caldwell. I saw Marshall Tucker Band in Myrtle Beach S. C., but it unfortunately it was after Toy’s passing. I think they are from South Carolina.

Something about this being in black and white makes it even better.
Southern rock has a huge pulse, they touch many, many people across all races, ethnicities, genders, etc. you break it down beautifully
This is one of my favorite songs. right up there with Free Bird.
That harmonizing at the end is simply sublime
