my family owns a hardware store, the reason we survive is because A) we are closer to the communities compared to Home Depot, or Ace. B) because we are knowledgeable in construction, plumbing and electricity, so when people shop they typically have a lot of questions and need help understanding what is it they are buying and we offer that help. so we have a lot of repeat customer. and C) we also deal to tradesmen, which means that we bring a lot of specific items that most stores don't carry because they only cater to general public. I can't tell you how many times I hear "Wow I can't believe you guys have 'X' here because, so and so never brings it"....but its a lot of work for a small business to compete, ya just gotta find your niche. We have been fortunate enough to open 2 locations without sacrificing our quality of service.
I love and shop at stores like yours.
I go to my local store almost entirely because they've helped me figure stuff out. They're more expensive but I've Saved thousands by doing my own plumbing, electrical, roofing etc, and they helped me do it.
🎉
what city do you live in just out of curiosity? Or just the state if you don't want to be that specific
I live in a very small town in New England. We all shop in the family owned hardware and grocery store, along with the one breakfast and lunch restaurant ❤

I literally go out of my way to not buy shit from them because I remember what it was like to live next to an actual store like a Sears Roebuck
“We used to build civilizations, now we build shopping malls.” Bill Bryson
In some ways if we can get over our consumerism and apply all our up to date technical thinking we could create the first actual civilization
Nowadays we don't even build that.
My favorite author! I met Mr. Bryson. Amazing guy 😀
The shopping malls in my area have all been bulldozed by Jeff Bezos for amazon warehouses with no bathrooms... I actually wish shopping malls still existed...
We don't build malls anymore we build warhouses that stuff can be stored in before it's shipped out and that's progress. People got real nostalgia goggles for how stuff was done in the past.
Starbucks failed terribly in Australia , we all saw what they were doing in USA & no one went there & they closed .. brilliant.
Good for you all. It's coffee for suburban white girls. Drenched in caramel and chocolate syrups, whipped cream and sprinkles. It's really no suprise so many people here are fat as fk.
There are 69 Starbucks in Australia. I love when people just make things up that are so easily disproven.
@@jongordon7914and 17,068 in the USA. If you account for population, Australia should have 1,321 Starbucks to be on the same scale as the USA. Sounds like a failure to me, when there's only 69 left.
@@UAWorldNews Way to try and reframe the argument to try and be right. The OP said Starbucks closed in Australia and no one went there. There are 69 locations there. 69 is way more than zero.

He is absolutely right about the Walmart. I remember when Walmart first came to my city and everyone was shouting they'd support local businesses. The price literally was like 50 cents cheaper at Walmart and slowly every hardware shop, toy store, jewelry stores, etc.. started closing 1 by 1. Nobody supported the local stores at all. Now when I drive up to visit my mom I go through about 6 different cities and every "main street" in those cities are all empty buildings. There's 4 Walmarts between those cities and no local stores at all. We killed off local business to save 50 cents.
We did and it sucks. A lot of impoverished people where I'm from and when the walmart came in it was the beginning of the end. I was a kid when they set up shop but they know they're gonna suck up all the business from those people, my family included, because they can afford to undercut the local stores, and the lower price combined with the convenience of everything in one place is just a stupid thing to ignore when you're counting coins week to week. Afterwards if you have any issue with it on morals or principle grounds you still have to get to a point financially where you can afford not to care about the prices. Supporting local businesses ironically becomes almost an elitist thing to be able to do consistently.
We're at a point now where a lot of the things now cost just as much or more at walmart than they did at the local shops when walmart came in, but we're locked into the game.
Literally watch the South Park episode on Walmart.😂
& now all those people are paying more than they were before & making less money, with a much lower standard of living.
It doesn't even matter if they do still shop at the local store. As long as Wal-Mart takes like 30 or 40 percent of the sales, that's 30 or 40 percent less revenue for the local shop. Wal-Mart has the money to stay open at a loss for years because they know that after those years, they'll be the only game in town.
Still got to pay the rent, and those .50 cent savings can add up
It's really easy to say that I'd spend the extra money when you actually don't have to worry about the money.
But in the long run youd make more if you didn't support large soulless corporations, short run saving that fucks you long term
Heaven forbid you sacrifice
@@bingbong3770 you probably hate yourself
@@bingbong3770 exactly. My family doesn't like to shop at whole foods because it's "too expensive" so they will buy a bunch of "less expensive" groceries from Walmart and then at the end of the week throw away 30% or 40% of the food.
So the cost saving versus how much your phone away doesn't make too much sense to me.
Most people have the means to sacrifice in certain areas by sacrificing others
@@B-RaDD but most people don't throw away 30-40 so your argument goes away. There will always be poor and cheap people who want cheaper stuff. Y'all are just arguing against capitalism. It's not a moral system and it sounds good to shit on it, but it's pointless.
Rich people like CK made their millions on capitalism. Give away your money and then shit on the system.
The big problem is that these major corps like Walmart suck all the money out of your community. With local businesses, the money stays in your community.
I remember Coffee connection. Their coffee was awesome.
When a business offers everything for a lower price, the community has more disposable income that they can spend in the community and the money stays in the community.
I lived in Costa Rica 2 years ago in a small town and it was just like how they described it used to be here. The local shops would be full of experts in any area and it might take longer to get something, but they would take my number and follow up with me on any little thing. You still see the actual dentist and veternarian. There aren't assistants doing the job, it is the actual doctor. They are super personable and visits aren't rushed. People growing up in the US have no clue how bad it has gotten. It used to be like that. Your dentist followed you your whole childhood and HE did your visit. It wasn't a super busy office with a long wait. Appointments happened on time and weren't rushed. We are fd as a society.
Not to mention dentistry down there is not only quality but is super affordable
...and, when you had a problem at night or on the weekend; they would, themselves come in. Veterinarians also, now, Blue Pearl provides after-hours coverage, and gouges a pet-owner beyond the unreasonable. Things are, in many areas, in decline; perhaps the death before rebirth of something(s) better?
The wage stagnation of the past 30 years has been made bearable by the cost reduction WalMart and co have driven over the same timespan. It sucks because the balance is the devaluation of labor by offshoring and squelching of mom and pop competition.
There's no balance. What are you talking about? Low prices at Walmart don't make not being able to afford a place to live bearable. Most of the people who work full time at Walmart are on public assistance. There are tent cities exploding all over the country. Americans have been robbed of hope & future. These monopolies have to be shut down. Maybe look past your own front yard some time. There are other people in the world who have to live through every day, it isn't just you.
Race to the bottom
Corporation like Walmart are a large part of the reason for the wage stagnation.
The US monetary system is not a zero sum game. How is new money created, (printed)?
Another business Walmart destroyed is Pet Stores. They got into tropical fish, put all the mom and pops out of business, didnt take care of their department and then just got out. Petco and Petsmart carry a standard fare of fish but nothing like the mom and pop stores did back in the day.

The Starbucks thing hits close to home. The quality of their coffee are unacceptably shitty, but the worst part is most of their customers are people who don’t even like coffee and just get the sugary Frappuccinos. People who actually like quality coffee and espresso are punished for it, we lose the stores that actually know what they’re doing and supply us with fresh beans
Not only is it shitty, but its more expensive than every other major coffee spot. You'd think for being such a massive company that they'd be able to lure in customers just by keeping prices low, but nope. I think I understand Starbuck's niche though. I always see these wanna-be social media famous girls posting their ridiculous Starbucks drinks like its some trendy thing and because they're paying more, its therefore more high class than going to Dunkin' Donuts or some local shop that doesn't have a logo on their cup that you can flaunt around.
Totally agree! The brewed coffee at Starbucks is the worst! I only drink it when it is the only option left
Never understood the hype over Starbucks crap when shitty folgers tastes way better.
Starbucks isn't even coffee!
It's dirty water!!!
... and a $5 selfie, with @$$water!
@@Coffee-Stain-Music Starbucks coffee is far cheaper than other small businesses, and drinking Starbucks hasn't been a flex for a decade now. Nobody my age (early 20s) brags about Starbucks. Niche coffee stores are abundant and opening constantly in my area of Los Angeles, which is one of the most expensive places in America to own a small business, because of insane taxes, business rent, and high cost of importing. Why do people support these new shops? Because Starbucks' quality is shit, and people who like real coffee can appreciate the higher quality coffee and pay higher prices at those small businesses. Small businesses are 100% able to survive and even thrive in this economy, people think that just because they're a "local small business", other people owe you their business. People are happy to fork over extra cash if you provide a higher quality service than the large business equivalent, but nobody wants to admit that maybe they just run a shit business that doesn't do anything special, and they don't do a better job. People who are passionate and do a good job always succeed and thrive. Starbucks was once a small business, they scaled up because they offered better quality. That's how business works, you offer quality or convenience, you don't just put your hands out and expect pity customers to lower their quality of life to raise yours!
One of the reasons I moved to Oregon was they muscle out the corporations and keep things local. Well, localish. Louis Ck is a genius.
I love Louis omg. How he talks about the little details that made this even more messed up.
Those local shop owners asked you what your favorite movies were 😂😂 they cared and we f’d them right where the sun don’t shine
I think he owes some career success to looking and talking like someone 15 years older than he actually is. When he was in his 20s, most comics are edgy burnouts, meanwhile he's talking about fatherhood. Here he's like 30s or 40s and Ant says "you sound like my grandfather."
I agree with you but it’s not $.13. It’s like four dollars an item different that adds up. I can’t go broke for my neighbors so that they can have a hobby and run their store.
This makes me kind of sad that I won't really get to experience that being in my twenties now all those things died off when I was a kid.
There are still small family owned book stores around and different community based coffee shops you just have to spend a second to look for them.
Makes me sad too, & pissed off.
When they say "it was a simpler time" they weren't kidding!
As right as he is to say it, this really is easy coming from someone with Louis' wealth. He also mentioned a 13c saving, it's probably more like 2-3dollars.

For low prices check out Aldi, also.
In the 90s, when I was a kid, my town had a couple of video stores but a bunch of convenience stores also rented movies.
Late fees, rewind fees, very limited inventory. Tiny selection of films. Poor image quality. Really bad film making during the VHS video store era. For lovers of video entertainment, it has never been better than today. So much incredible content, from big budgets, to no budgets. It's available in nearly every home in America.
50/50 - Yes, communities should come together to support their locals, and some have, mostly in places like Vermont and tight-knit rich towns like Santa Barbara.
On the other hand, a multimillionaire (who probably did plenty of WalMart shopping before he made it big) is criticizing the types of communities who might NEED to save "13 cents on a mop" to survive. That thirteen cents multiplies over several items they need to buy over the course of their lives could add up to grand or two a year which for some of these folks could be 5% to 10% of their net income.
All good points. Perhaps, it might just be the projection of legitimate liberal guilt.
Places like Vermont don’t take big corporations bullshit, and it always will benefit the town. They also make the utility companies pay and repair the damage they do when installing various things
@@edscmidt5193 Good on Vermont. I can appreciate people practicing what they preach.
My parents were custom framers in the 1980s and clients loved their attention to detail and passion and knowledge. Then our local mall leased space to a chain framer-who used high school kids and cheap materials from overseas-but the were cheaper. My parents couldn’t compete and it drove them out of business. Still sad to this day.
So in essence, your parents provided the exact same service with less convenience? And you're surprised that they went out of business? If their quality was really as great as you say it was, I promise you people would go to them to get framing done and happily pay more. My estimation is their quality wasn't anything special enough to justifying less convenience and higher prices
I remember the stuff Louie is taking about but I was never old enough to fully enjoy it. Now I'm older and these places are gone as well as community.
In Germany those big stores are not cheaper at all. They just have everything so you won‘t need to drive around. What I’m trying to say is that it is not always about money but also, sometimes, about saving time
I once bought a fancy mop and wringer at the mom and pop hardware store and it was like $80. Later I saw it at Walmart for $40. A lot more than 7 cents, so bye, Mom and Pop.
The Mom and Pop store bought them from Walmart. I knew some stores that did that. 😂🤷♂️

I agree. I really loved the 6 hours of podcasts with Shane Gillis where they talk about Presidents. His retention of stories and they way they were as people was very intriguing.
He's even got some neat stories with them and other leaders. From not liking Al Gore to meeting him and loving him, calling the white house from time to time which lead to Obama hiring him to write jokes for a speech, Sarah Palin even wrote a small chapter in her book about him.
6 hours riddled with gems sprinkled with enough "your moms box" humor. It's great
ok ? if you went to college that automatically means youre smarter than the person who didnt ?
He impregnated a feminist. Not once but twice...Can't be that brilliant
Louis CK is right to a degree.
Lived in Chico Ca. Absolutely everyone only shopped at the co-op or at the farmers market or at the local game store in downtown.
it’s also just our economic system. when people don’t have money to spare they’re going to go with the cheaper option. and corporations can lose money for some time to take out the competition
They can coexist. We have Walmarts and farmer markets and small antique shops in my area. No one is kicking anyone out of business. Everyone have their niche.
So on point
I agree with a lot of what Louis says but he views the world in such a silly idealistic rich boomer way
Yeah since he’s come back I really can’t listen to his shit anymore.
It’s like he’s been rich so long he’s just missing the mark on a lot of why might turn out to be a really good point.
My local grocery store is expensive as shit
So much this. You can't hate on capitalism after it made you your millions. Then tell people poorer than you to buy more expensive things? Give away your money and then say this 🤣
Boomer? Huh? There are tens of millions of them. “They are all [what?]” you’re saying. You don’t like critique of predatory capitalism? Calling people names is so Gen X, fcking self righteous prick.
Louis should release his specials exclusively on Bluray only and have them mailed out by some small family business. He reaps the benefits of all the convenience and then chastises his audience for doing the same exact thing.
God damn i love this guy
His VHS vs Betamax bit was funny, but the format war was won via VHS being cheaper and having longer recording time. Convenience won over slightly higher picture quality.
Its not 13 cents, the local place is like twice the price
There are a whole bunch of families that rely on paychecks from stores like Walmart
The only real difference is you feel better about it

I think part of it is that once places like Walmart open people realize how much the Mom and pops were screwing them ..... And years and years in the community with these people get tax breaks and act like they own the whole town while talking down to people that don't own their own business.... I can't stand Walmart more than the next person but I think these people that didn't make it we're just probably opportunistic offspring of someone who actually cared about their business
Underrated comment. People could become millionaires by having the only shoe store or furniture store in town.
walmarts cost of acquiring goods is much less buying in bulk than mom and pops and not all cusumers relise this so they may think they were getting screwed when the profit margins of walmart and pop was the same or similar while walmart offering a lower price. But like you said im sure there was local business out there screwing those around them because they could as well.
This is it. These mom and pops people romanticize were typically poorly run and unnecessarily overpriced. Sure there were good ones, but mostly garbage with poor inventory selection.
I disagree, because the "Mom & Pops" had to have happy customers or it would soon be competing with another small-timer that saw an opening. But none of them can compete with a company that comes in and is willing to take a loss, because they're supported by their other stores around the country and/or they can buy in huge bulk, until they've driven out any competition.
If the millionaire shoe store owner started being a pompous dick with high prices, his customers always had the option to go to the next town over or maybe even decide they could do it better.
The difference between then & now is people could wait a week before getting that shiny new thing. I'm still that way, my phone might not be the hottest new tech, but it'll do until I decide I can't live without an even fancier camera. I can wait to see the latest releases, there's a huge backlog of stuff I haven't got around to seeing anyway.
I miss the days when the guy you bought the bike from could not only fix what was wrong, but took pride in knowing his stuff and his service was considered top-notch.
But even these mega-stores are going extinct. Everybody will just buy online because "NOW" isn't soon enough, and the only service will be someone in India, (or a bot), reading from a circular load of crap. People are already used to giving up in frustration and throwing it out to buy another.
Born in 1960, I'm from the day when TVs and appliances weren't considered disposable and were fixed. People took pride in their 40 yr. old Hoover Vacuum and how many times their Craftsman tool was replaced for free. I was in my late 20's, (maybe low 30's), before the first Walmart came to town and it already had a bad rep.
This rant is pointless because there's no going back, but I just can't stand huge corporations and the hold they have over the economy and every level of government, so I rant once in awhile.. and yell at clouds.
everything said is right up until Microsoft and Apple; Microsoft became a juggernaut because the coding (DOS) was easier to use and allowed for 3rd party systems to work with it; Apple uses Linux which makes it much more secure but alot harder/ more expensive for 3rd parties to be compatible. If you wanna go back and look at why the tech giants are even competing at this point is because touch screen interfaces are way easier using a Linux GUI giving Apple the edge.
Glad someone pointed this out. I like Louis but sometimes he talks well out of his depth
Home Depot from the East and Home Quarters from the West squeezed out every mom and pop in between.
Interesting, did you enhance this by editing out the gap between when each got starts speaking and stops speaking?

Correction: Starbucks is like a monoculture crop that's installed that displaces a beautifully diverse wild meadow.
i'd argue that you'd save a whole lot more than 13 cents a mop by choosing walmart over mom and pop. you're going to pay AT LEAST double at mom and pop's vs. walmart, sometimes more. mom and pop are gouging you because they've been the only game in town and they know you need them. if i can get double at walmart, that's where i'm going. i got to look out for my family, not mom and pop's.
You have competition with moms and pops. There are often more than one option and you can shop around. Not to mention you're often buying quality that will last while you have to keep replacing what you buy at one of those mega stores. When those mega stores are the only game in town they can inflate their prices whenever they want too. I also dont like how dependent we've become on walmart. They destroy the economy of small communities where they hire and fire a gross amount of people on a whim.
@@davidp2981 You buy the same made in China product wherever you go. And Walmart will go bankrupt if they jack up their prices. You have an irrational knee jerk reaction that smells like brainwash instead of thinking logically.
My experience with the pre-Starbucks mom and pop coffee shops is that most of them weren't any good and used low quality beans. Certainly there were exceptions but Starbucks was consistent and better than most of them. Starbucks only sucks compared to the local coffee shops that do things the right way. There weren't that many of those 20+ years ago.
They still exist in some places. You have to explore a bit to find the good ones, but that’s part of the fun. Usually they roast the beans themselves or have a relationship with the roaster. It takes some effort, but it’s worth it to avoid as much as possible contributing to our decline - c’est la vie.
In the US they perfected creating a business or of a side dish/accompaniment. Coffee shops, fry shops etc. Soon they'll convince people they need to spend $8/day on ketchup.
Make coffee at home with the beans you (not you specifically) prefer, if you live in the states you must likely have a vast variety to choose from.

This is from the Louis CK Opie and Anthony: Donald Rumsfeld episode.
Series thoughtful discussion like this beforehand, TRUE QUALITY Comedy interview and post-interview, and then more of this.
Dont blame the system. Blame the people living paycheck to paycheck who shop at the cheaper place
Agree, fiat money causes this. Bitcoin fixes it.

Binnngooo! And im not paying to keep their "family business" open. They're certainly not donating money to MY family!!!
There is something to be said about the art and romance of antiquated ways of doing business. See what you will about hipster cities but at least there are people trying to keep tradition alive. You will pay more for it, but you really are supporting a local community and keeping that passion alive for something that might take a little longer.
There's a great second hand book store called 2nd and Charles. It is a bookstore but also sells retro consoles and games, comics, manga, vinyl, movies but you can sell them your old books in good condition and buy other used books for really good prices. Prices are a lil high on the regular items tho
I share about 6 streaming services and still can't find certain old movies. movies that were easy to find in any video store back in the day
Local places are usually more expensive and less options. It’s just too fuckin bad lol
Agreeing with Anthony so hard
I specifically don't use chains and use their local competition, even if the mom and pop is actually worse. I have never bought a single thing off Amazon, and instead of paying a special "prime" to get it in two days, I go to the store and have it that same day. Cheaper and sooner because I was able to take two steps out my front door.
Local stores simply won't have everything like Amazon. Not to mention there's none of them left. Amazon is basically a Walmart on steroids.
You can't stop it and you can't run from it.
people forget that Walmart was a small shop too
The bookstore pick up works.
Also, sitting at a bar, reading a book and ignoring everyone.
What kind of a weird needy loser reads a book at a bar ignoring everyone? Bars are for drinking and socializing. If you want to read go home or a library. Nerd.
@@MrRezRising No woman is attracted to a guy sitting at a bar with a book, weirdo.
@@MrRezRising autistic?
This is weird. Your responses aren't showing up in the thread.
Anyway, I made my point. Good luck to you and your drunk women. 👍
@@MrRezRising Well yeah, bars are for drinking and meeting people. That's the whole purpose of a bar.
People eventually did not want to spend all day shopping, then after superstores started selling everything in one store Amazon said you don't have to even leave the house so of course the majority will always take the least stressful, least expensive option.
He’s so right
This is from the O&A day so it’s been a while since this clip. I’d be very interested to have Louie listen to this and get his take now on this as it’s progressed so much further.
This was the same day he asked Rumsfeld if he was a lizard, what a great appearance by Louis
I just recently discovered Anthony Cumia, so all I’ve seen of Opie is post O&A days, and it is nice to hear them actually “getting along” in this clip. Ant is the King, but I hope Opie finds some happiness
He’s right, big corps muscle out a family business and then the big chain store folds or quits because they don’t like their profit margins and then there’s no store at all!
Of course a big part of that is wages have not increased with productivity for 40 years leaving people with less money and less able to choose to NOT buy cheap Chinese products.
Self-destruction. The species is done. This is just another symptom of our turn at extinction. We are going down fast.
40 years ago is when the mindset changed to the main goal of the company is to make profit for the stockholders and then shit just fell apart continuously. They could do manufacturing in America but they think $13 an hour is too much to spend on labor. I worked at a factory that was contracted to build cabs for caterpillars largest vehicles, it was grey assembly line work. You’re line would finish two cabs a day because there were a lot of parts. We got paid $13 an hour, one morning they called us down to tell us they were immediately moving a couple lines to Mexico and slowly going to move the rest. It was horrible to see. One of the most fucked up parts was this company was in business in my city since the 1950s and when I was there it was the guy who started the companies grandson who ran the place, I bet if his grandfather was still alive he’d be so proud. Months later I heard they had serious quality control issues in Mexico. Shit is so fucked here now, labor is at a tipping point and something great might happen
@@edscmidt5193 I'm sorry for all the shit you and yours have/had to deal with. Let's name names - Reagan and Reaganomics. I called it back then - 20 and in college. US - dumb shit central.

This is great, but a few notes- VHS won over beta because beta didn't support the porn industry. Apple was beaten by Microsoft because apple didn't share their operating system but kept it exclusively for their own computers, which were sold for a premium. Also why they almost went bankrupt. Same as android today

Somehow, the good Lord only knows how, bookstores are hanging on here in Australia. There are a few less but some are still there.
This is totally spot on
What’s a Video Store?
At least the family video store could have franchised with Blockbuster.
He totally right.
Ironically, now with streaming service we're back to the family video store.
We pay a monthly membership fees, and although we can watch the entire catalog at anytime we want (without that one guy hanging on to the new release), the catalog is limited to the parent movie studio. If you want a different selection, you buy another membership with a different streaming service.
Also, now the cookies know what to suggest for you. At least it thinks so.
Finally someone said it lol. A lot of people don’t support small businesses like they claim.
A guy named George Howell started the Coffee Connection. He is considered by many to be the father of craft single-sourced coffee. He did indeed sell the locations to Starbucks and then in 2004 (after his non-compete expired) he started George Howell Coffee. Now he has the shops and also sells specialty coffee online. He's kicking Starbucks ass to.
LMAO!!! No one even heard of this guy. He's not kicking anything.
@@johndong7524 Everyone in the coffee world has heard of him, but no one has heard of you little person.
@@tomscott4438 Coffee world? Is that the name of your tree fort club, loser?
@@tomscott4438 This guy succumbed to Starbucks because he couldn't expand the way he wanted and his UA-cam channel has only 300 subscribers and the last video was uploaded two years ago. I won't exactly qualify that as "kicking ass". George Howell is a loser, just like yourself, pedostache.
In my city the downtown has been in decline for like 40 years and no one will go shop there because, “there’s no parking, like at the suburban mall”. They don’t realize that their money could literally revive our downtown! That’s what you’re buying when you go there and pay for parking!
Facts
Good arguments for Antitrust laws and more competition. The benefits of having more choice, more small firms that offer better service.
There needs to be a program where Walmart can agree to training people to start their own small business shops nearby. The problem with so many American small businesses is lack of professionalism, which corporations are great at.
What? Have u been to a Wal-Mart? Have u been to a McDonald's? There's a sense of corporate professionalism but it doesn't translate to real life
I love this lie we all go with that every small town was actually serviced by these little shity stores. I grew up in one of those towns. you had to drive a half hour to get most things. And you couldn't get half of it half the time you have to go to five different places it took 4 hours to go shopping and it was expensive as hell.
The opester drank some coffee
Louie completely contradicted himself with the Walmart and barnes and noble
how?
Louis CK explaining capitalism to Americans without using the word capitalism to avoid triggers. Clever.
Most Americans will say "iT's jUsT LiKE cOmmUNiSm" the moment you describe capitalism to them.
He's not "explaining" capitalism. (An independent hardware store and Walmart are both free enterprises.) He's explaining the hypocrisy of people claiming to care about the little guy and hating "corporations" (a PC slur) while they shop at Walmart (and nowadays Amazon). Louie should add the folks who claim to be concerned about the environment and curse "polluters" and "big oil", meanwhile while they accept plastic bags for every little purchase, drive short distances instead of walking or biking, waste absurd amounts of food.
@@mattzobian is it hypocritical though? Surely under the free market you aren't really supposed to be supporting a business just for the sake of supporting it, like a charity. Otherwise nothing obsolete would die out and we'd still have idk Victorian apothecaries still around and stuff
The reverse happened in my old hometown tbh. A Walmart moved in but closed down since nobody went to it really jfl
