You’re like the Bob Ross of skating.
So true
Dude. I forgot you had to pop in the hardware from top and now I literally have to remove the trucks and do it all over with a screwdriver and adjustable wrench. It’s been almost 9 years since I’ve built my own complete. Life is great haha.
This was very satisfying to watch, especially with how gentle you were handling that skateboard & how you nailed that jump at the end! Also it was weirdly relaxing..? Great video mate, you get my like 👍 have a nice day everyone reading! 👊
Thank you!
I watch set up videos just because they’re so relaxing/satisfying. I’ve been setting boards up for 31 years and it still feels great to just watch someone set up a new board.
This dude is like that’s guy from the 80s that did the paintings on TV. I feel so peaceful and humble now. Great video man
Bob Ross! I keep getting that. Not bad company. Thanks! -Ron
Here on Brasil we skate a lot, and our national kits arent too good like yours... but we still skatiboarding... God Bless yall!!!
🗣 YEAH RON! ❤️
Hi i got one of your skateboards and it does not want to turn can you please help me.
@@Brian-wj7io loosen ur trucks ig
@@TokFoo I have tried that and it does not work
@@Brian-wj7ioare you being serious?
I’ve watched this video at least twice now. Already knew all the content but it’s cathartic
Coming back to skating after 8 years and this helped a lot my dude 🤙🏼 my vision board is coming out of retirement
Awesome to hear. Enjoy!
I am getting a brand new board today or tomorrow and I was worried because I could not find a good video…few hours after ordering it I find this the best setup video ever! Thank you!
Make sure the blade is real sharp when cutting the grip tape or else you'll have grip tape that looks like a beaver chewed it off.
So true. Good point. Thank!
Ummmmm 😭😭😭😭😭
Unfortunately it happend to ke
Happened to me
The beaver chewed mine🥲
Ok but this is my first time I’ve been trying to learn for the longest this video was a blessing thank you smmm
Awesome. I've been doing it for years and I'll still mess up the edges sometimes. Glad to help!
I love board setup videos 😯
Thank you so much!! I wanna get into skateboarding and had no idea what components made up a board, but you explained it super well! Thank you, I'm really excited to try this :D
thanks dude...been literally 20 years since i slapped one together from scratch..kid just turned 10 and got his first board so i had to do the same right...wish my old ass luck..im 36 havent been on a peice of maple in literally like i said 20 years lol..
Aww dude Whaleys a legend!!
I can honestly say that I enjoyed every second of this video
I tried 2 other videos and now im here. Thankyou, simple, easy, now I'm done.

You’re like the Bob Ross of Skateboarding. Such a chill bro! Lol
Awesome teaching video! First time purchasing a skateboard and this tutorial is very detailed and simplistic. I will watch to master skills. : ) Thanks so much!

Just built my board step by step following this video, thank you a bunch skating Bob Ross :)

Awesome walkthrough man
I loved the bit where he said to put longboard trucks on the other way round after I had put them facing inwards
You're hilarious man,keep it up👍😂
Thx!
Put up my first board with this video
Great video and also the end was funny for me because I’m 12 and I’m asking for the parts to build a nice skateboard for Christmas since I’ve been using a Walmart board
Great video. Totally learned something just now. Thx!
Rad! Thx!
Thanks for this ❤
I recently saw a Braile video teaching setups where they threw away the washers and spacers. “Useless” is how they described them.
Im about to order my first real board from yall Im just worried about messing up the install on the bearings
Man Whaley still rips.
Good video, i'm piecing together a surfskate and just wanted to make sure I know I cuold do it before buying the parts.
Right on. It's a great thing to know how to do and fun to customize in little ways like making your own griptape art.
Hey, not sure if you respond anymore since this is an older video but I'm planning on making a pink-themed skateboard for my first board, I was wondering where you got the pink screws?
Ps Def gonna use this video later love the vibes you radiate
Surprised to see Santa Cruz board. I'm 55 yrs old. Do not skateboard anymore although when one of the kids have one I will. (Kids are usually surprised how well I can skateboard) but my first board was a Santa Cruz and I also had an Alva did not think they were still around. Years ago they were top brand skateboards.
"Sometimes you can just feel where the hole is, sometimes its a lil bit harder than it seems" >> That's what she said 😅
Sometimes the hole in the deck is not correct and the trucks is not going to line in. I have see this lot of times on skateboards deck. Have you a trick about that? How to fix that? Good Video 👍😎
Hey man I’ve never skated but if I buy trucks that comes with risers do I have to put them on? Sorry if that’s a dumb question.
Washers have two sides. One is flat and the other is rounded (e.g. Bronson G3) Which side should look towards the nut and the axle, and which one should look towards the center of the bearing?
I would go rounded towards the center of the bearing. Although it doesn't really matter since the washer isn't bigger than that inner race.
@@NHSSkateDirect Thank you guys!
Ye noticed that to
Do the trucks come with the screws or do you have to buy the separate
Yes, you'll most likely have to buy the hardware separately. The nuts and washers come with the trucks but not the bolts that hold the truck on the deck.
Nice and simple
This is the best tutorial of setting up skateboard. I watched many videos but didn’t really get it. Then I found this one! Thank you a lot man! Like and subscribe from me mate!😃 I just started skating and only can do an ollie:D
Thank you! Glad it helped. -Ron
Thank you so much!
Glad it helped!
When I decided to start skating I take the spacers off because no one ever talk about why they are needed so I spent my first year of skating without them.
Do you tighten the screws or just the bolts on the trucks?
You can do either but it's best to just tighten the hardware nuts and keep the screws in place with the screwdriver. The it won't mess up the griptape.
I didn’t get any screws or nuts from my trucks, was I supposed to buy those separately and if so where do I buy them?
dude! thanks!
For some reason I love putting stickers on. Sadly I never get indy stickers when I buy independent products 🤷♂️
Are spacers important cos I've lost mine and just got new bearings and I don't want to destroy them if they need spacers
Spacers should make your bearings last longer since they reduce the sideways stress. Here's more about why they help: ua-cam.com/video/-nP3AJHiz6s/v-deo.html
If the wheels and the skateboard is all ready set up are u still aloud to put a grip tape on or we gotta take about the wheels and everything?
That's fine except you won't be able to tighten the hardware if it loosens unless you cut the grip to get to the screw head. Also you can use the hardware to get a better idea of where your feet are over the trucks. I'm assuming there's not already griptape on it. Also, if you ever take it apart you'll have to push it back through the grip to get your hardware out which will rip the grip. So if you think you might take it apart before it's completely thrashed I'd take it apart before you grip.
Thank you so much I am no able to ride my skate board I got for Christmas
leave flack extra grip decks side , half a centimeters , that street style start .
Question: Do you need washers or spacers?
Your wheels will still roll without them but your bearings will last longer with spacers and washers. Just made a new video about why.
@@NHSSkateDirect Thank you so much :)
Whale talk > Ted talks
Where did you get the washers
Does the washer have to be a percific way or can a washer be on both ways
Ignore this comment I found the answer I hadn't read the comments lol
If anyone can help I’ve seen online that some people don’t put on the washers or just use one? I’m riding a Vision board too and not really looking to do tricks just cruise from point A to B. Should I do something different or? I do like turning easier and not being so stiff
It's always best to use the washers when you can. If the trucks are too tight you might want to try some softer bushings. Or you can try ride them without a washer for a few days. When cushions break in they squish down a little bit so you can put the washer back on.
Thank you if u didn't make this video I wouldn't know to put my skate board together lol
It worked! Enjoy the skateboarding. :)
Next you should show how shape the grip, cause you don't always want to cover cool top graphics.
Clear grip is best for top graphics because you see the graphic and the veneer, and clear grip goes on just as easy. If you mean cutting little gaps/designs in, the biggest things to pay attention to are making sure there's no air bubbles, making sure there's more grip tape than deck showing, and then cutting the edges just like if you did a whole sheet.
Also, if you just want a little stripe down by the back bolts, it's better to cut the sheet and then use the factory edges on the inside, that way you get nice smooth edges on your deck and the rough edge gets cut off anyway
Just ordered a new deck, bearings, bolts and trucks. I never get new wheels been using the same ones since 2011-2012.
I need help!. My trunks are turning the opposite way of where I want it to!. If I want right it goes left?!
I’m very confused about washers. It seem to be a concave on one side, but nothing on internet talks about which side should face up
Does the grip go on the top or bottom 🐖
On the top.
Do complete skateboards come with all the parts separately?
It depends on where you get it from. You can ask for it to be assembled or in parts.
Okay so when I started putting on my trucks, I put the screws in but the bolt won’t go all the way down and the trucks are loose. I can’t get it to completely go down. And the parts were picked out by the lady at the store. But it’s not seeming to work
It does sound like the bolts are a little short. Sometimes you can tighten them on but you don't want to sink them too deep into the deck by over tightening. Might have to take them back.
Are washers necessary?
My board back wheels are not rotating with hads just today I got from skatehut
NHS Fun Factory What brand and size are those wheels?
Ricta Rapidos. Size 52mm.
Is that " RON WHALEY"?
Previous vid: “you can’t over tighten and smash bearings”
This video: “don’t over tighten your bearings or you can smash them”😩
It should always be "can". Spacers will help but be careful when tightening for sure.
yeah!!!!
i dont have spacers or washers, can i still ride my board? thanks plz someone help
What happened to using a file on the grip? Guess I'm just too old school.
A file or rasp works best if you have one. Using the screwdriver (or even your truck) just makes it so you need one less tool. Old school appreciated.
When i see a big board i want to jump size again.
I got my skateboard set up Friday I got the bone Swiss berings And Only 3 of the spacers fit The other one is too fat It's like really Only one is defective my skate shops like an hour away It's like come on really bones
Came for the whale.
Me too
My new deck came but for some reason when I turn left I turn right
It sounds like your trucks might be on in reverse.
i saw how easy it was for you to put the bolts on 😭 mine just keep making the nail spin
Did you figure it out? You need to use a tool at both ends to stop that, either Allen key or Phillips head screwdriver. While using wrench or socket etc at the other end.
my bolts always stick out even when i tighten them a lot
On some decks they just never sink in. Better then them pulling in too deep for sure.
@@NHSSkateDirect I realized I gotta tighten them without turning the screw driver, they’re way better now
Do i need spacers with ricta Wheels? :/
It would be best for your bearings to have spacers, no matter what wheels... unless they don't fit spacers. Rictas do.
I know no one asked but I just landed my first moving ollie:>
Congrats!!!
@@NHSSkateDirect Thank you!
do i need to have spacers for my board?
You don't have to use spacers, but it does make the bearing last longer.
how would you do this with riser pads
Pretty much the same except you add the risers in between the trucks and deck.
!!! Just make sure you the hardware you get is long enough. The bigger the riser pad the longer hardware you will need. Examples:
Without risers you can use regular 7/8 or 1 inch hardware.
With 1/4 risers you need 1 1/4 inch or longer hardware.
@@NHSSkateDirect thanks
Sounded like he said buttholes 😂
Do skate lessons
I was just always worried about the trucks. Putting the wheels on and all that. It seemed simple enough but most setup video dont talk about it.
Glad it helped!
Anyone else find it sorta difficult to push the bearings all the way in the wheel?
It can be for sure. Depends on the wheels. Some slide right in, others take a bit more effort. Here's a bit more on bearing installation ua-cam.com/video/-nP3AJHiz6s/v-deo.html
@@NHSSkateDirect thanks boss, appreciate it
