I absolutely love how he understands that NOT EVERYONE HAS THE PROPER STUFF Because almost every single one of these vids I’ve watched have all these tools that I don’t have and I know a lot of other people don’t either so I love how he understands that and uses options most of us have. Thanks for the vid!
I like seeing the way that others grip they're board, even though i know how to,and i always try the new methods, and maybe it'll be better than my method.
There's quite a few different ways to grip a board. I just try and pick out all the best tips and make my own method. I love YT and Tactics for their genuine help.
When you're applying Clear Grip, use one of your wheels on your truck to roll out the bubbles while you're applying it and it will come out a lot better! - Tim
I haven't had to do this in like 30 years. I was looking for tips, I just literally did everything he did in the video and my new deck turned out awesome. No bubbles, no nothing. Some guys apply it from one end to the other (which is probably what I would've done), but this method here is solid.
just gripped mine for for first time and its slightly botched but i love it, add character, i figured it would get scuffed anyways if i was skating like i should.
I've been learning to skate on a gifted, used board, today a man drove down my road, he owns a skate shop, gave me a deck and a roll of grip tape, this'll be my first board to make my own, I've never been more excited
We didn't have a lot of money so I always used to grip my boards with scraps of grip tape. Then I let the shops grip my boards. Now, at age 50, I'm doing a full sheet of tape for the first time. Great vid, thanks!
Great video. Love the options for different tools. You have the tool - it just may not be a "tool". Like the wheels on the truck to flatten out the grip tape. Nice work here. Thank you for sharing. Made my project so much easier and turned out looking great.
I just want to say thank you for this...I know it seems easy, and it is, but I am a perfectionist I use this video every single time I grip a new deck. Thank you!!!! (also, a few friends live near you and say you're an amazing shop 💜)
Thank you so much for these helpful videos! I re-gripped my first deck today and I'm very happy with the result! 🥳 The tip about using a hairdryer to help remove the old griptape was a game-changer, would never have thought of that myself!
Great video guys! It's been about 25 years since I last gripped my own board. I needed a refresher on this! Spent this afternoon refurbishing an old Element board and ordered some new tape. Also ordered additional tape for the THPS collector board coming in.
Pro tip. Use a countersink in the holes for the trucks, after adding the griptape of course. It removes excess griptape in the best way so the screws don't have to push it down and make a bulge. It will be perfection.
put little break cuts near where the nose and tail go from straight to curving around, so that if you gotta do something quick you can just cut to the break cut and come back or just so you can get the easy parts done first, then the nose and tail, it could also be your starting area if you dont want to risk cutting your hand by poking it through the grip where you cant see it
It's been years since I've skated, just got an 80's cruiser deck to ride with my daughter. This definitely refreshed my memory, awesome vid much appreciated! 😎🔥🤙
Mob is pretty much the grippiest standard griptape out there (except for longboard grip). Jessup and a couple of non-specific grip brands (enjoi, element, etc.) tend to be less grippy. Grizzly and Shake Junt are somewhere in between Jessup and Mob. If you grip the board yourself, you can always take the excess grip that you cut off and use it to lightly sand down the grip on the top. But don't sand the top too much 'cause you still want good traction. I hope that helped! - Tim
I recently discovered this channel and love it. After more than ten years I decided to start skating again and I really appreciate your videos. Will buy my new skateboard setup from you guys definitely.
Does somebody know a good website to buy grip tapes? I want to buy an grip tape of some kind of game or anime but I can’t find any online and in the country i live in skateboarding isn’t that popular.
If you can't find exactly what you want for a grip tape graphic, you can always get some stickers or cu-touts of your favorite game or anime, and stick them to your deck, then put clear griptape over them so you can still see it under the grip. It's worth a try! Cheers! - Tim www.tactics.com/mob-grip/clear-perforated-skateboard-grip-tape/clear
@@tacticsboardshop I havnt done it yet. I found your videos when I was searching on where to start and how the heck I was going to achieve this without taking it to someone else. I'm now confident I can save the day LOL
This might be controversial, but something I do after gripping a board is to take a bit of the off cut grip tape and very lightly sand down the top surface of the grip tape. This makes the grip tape less abrasive so it doesn't wear out your shoes as quickly. Make sure you don't press too hard, do it evenly and not for too long or you will end up with dull patches on your grip tape that do not grip and you won't be able to do tricks. I would say the pressure that you would use to gently stroke a cat or a dog is good. Doing this saves your shoes from getting trashed in those first few sessions where the grip tape is really harsh.
You certainly can if you want to try, but if you're nervous about messing it up there's no shame in having us grip it for you. We grip tons of boards everyday for people! No charge. 👍 - Tim
How many decks have you gripped?

This couldn't be more perfect of an explanation, especially mentioning simple things we can use for simple tools.

That’s gotta be the most perfect cut I’ve ever seen on a deck
I always look forward to gripping any new boards that I get, it's always so satisfying
There are so many popular skate channels, but this is an under rated but awesome and informative channel

Much better than every other video I watched. Thanks.
I love this, thought about letting it do in a skater shop, but now I am confident enough to do it myself, thank u so much
You guys have the best skate set up tutorials out there
Just gripped my first board thanks to you, kudos!

Thanks for making this just gripped my custom board. Would have been lost without this
Watching this cause I got a deck from u guys and it’s also going to be my first time putting on grip tape lol

Im gripping a water ski turned into a longboard deck. Its a project me and the boys decided to do and its been crazy.
I just gripped a board for the first time and this help so much

Why is that such a beautiful board from the bottom🛹💫
The only tip I got, use a hair dryer or heat gun on the edges after you’re done! Promotes good adhesion and cleans up some of the rougher cuts!
I love this video because its helpful but the calm music in these videos is so damn calming
Really helpful video. Maybe now after 20 years of skating I can put some effort into gripping my skateboard actually caring about the results 😂
Just got 1 first board a ice cube one going to Try and add the grip tape myself fingers crossed 🤞
Wow I had no idea you could do that. I didn't know you could assemble a skateboard. You haven't a video for that😮 this is brave times are living in.
It's been years since I've skated, just got an 80's cruiser deck to ride with my daughter. This definitely refreshed my memory, awesome vid much appreciated! 😎🔥🤙
What sort of grip tape should I get if I don't want one that is too grippy

lmfaoo my first time gripping a board n all i had was an old box cutter it ain’t come out perfect but i’m still really happy
I'm using this for my motorcycle center stand. I hope it keeps me from slipping.

Not controversial at all! I do the same thing. 🍻 - Tim
Fantastic tutorial! Thank you @tacticsboardshop 😎🤙
Use the smooth part of the truck axel if you don't have others tools around. Muuuuch cleaner than using the hanger.
This is my first board should I grip it myself or have someone else to do it
You certainly can if you want to try, but if you're nervous about messing it up there's no shame in having us grip it for you. We grip tons of boards everyday for people! No charge. 👍 - Tim
This really helped. Thanks 👍
I'm about to grip my first board
Thank you
I gripped my first board the way that the guy on the curb did. It wasn’t horrible but it wasn’t pretty either. Definitely usin a razor this time.
