I still gotta find that perfect medium. I've skated tight trucks all my life, and only recently tried loosening my trucks. It felt so great skating at the park but setting up for tricks going fast to a euro gap was difficult. Either I gotta keep pushin and learning or try to find a happy medium. I don't wanna loose that flow though. Skating loose felt too amazing to give up
My son and I one day called it the Daewon challenge. We removed our top bushings and threw the washer on top. We thought it was gonna be insane but we now only ride that way. If you don't mind them, risers are helpful if you want a lil less wheel bite.
I hate wheelbite enough to give up on my cool carving technique, and a like being centered and stable while poping tricks so i always have my board medium tight with my back truck a bit more tight
Nice straightfoward video. I've just bought a nice new skateboard - I'm 63 years young (!) - and found I couldn't turn as easily as I did on an old crummy skateboard I found years ago - so seems I need to loosen the trucks a bit (trial and error, I guess).
Tight trucks all day baby. Love the solid feeling and stability. Helps to set up for tricks when rolling, and everything feels a lot "poppier" and easier to flick
I started out with them fairly loose (only like a fingers width gap between the wheels and board at full lean) and loved how it felt, But I noticed that I wasn't very comfortable skating at moderate speeds and I could only really ollie with like a single good push on the ground. I tightened my trucks so like two threads are showing and immediately it felt a lot more stable and I could ollie at a bit faster speeds. On the other hand, my treflip attempts got much worse since you lose a lot of the scoop with tighter trucks.
Nice! Sounds like you're figuring out what works best for you and for what tricks. Also, you can always change it up. I know I've gone from really loose back to medium tight and back over the years.
@@NHSSkateDirect Funnily enough I actually just went back to loose and it's been a lot more fun for me. I feel like the board responds to my feet much more with loose trucks so if I know I pop well, I'm going to land it. I definitely think that loose looks a lot better style wise.
Thunder 147 lights on a Indy titanium baseplate is the best truck I've ridden by far for me. Keeps the Wheelbase almost the same, got the perfect in between height and the nice baseplate slide of an indy with the responsive and fast popping feel if a thunder. I don't know why not more people do it but it kinda eliminates the weaknesses of both trucks and only keeps the good things about them.
@@stevensepic. On ledges and slappys, but Thunders grind better on rails imo. Godly pinch, but I go through Thunders every 2 months while indys get me through 5-6 months.
Cool vid. Bio Bob said loose trucks rule. Just weight on your front foot more to ride through speed wobbles. What he says still goes in my book. Same on my street luge back when I had one. Indys on any stand up board (street, park, pool, or downhill). Randals on the luge. Indys would be fine on luge too, but I got the Randals with it. Left it like I got it. They worked killer. I just rode for fun.
First time longboarder here. My longboard trucks were too loose from the factory and I thought my longboard was defective! Nevertheless, thanks to your video, I tightened my trucks a little bit and I feel more stable. I only use my longboard to commute on a flat bike path and keep my trucks a bit tight.
For me I need a pair of both medium and hard bushings- I can’t fully commit to tricks with loose trucks, but I do like to have a surfy feel when I’m just out cruising
I started, recently, loosening my trucks and it's a game changer. If you haven't tried it, i would HIGHLY suggest it because it makes skating so much easier and more fun.
It's all preferences Daewon song's board is literally slapping loose on the front truck and firm rear truck. I like mine nice medium to loose depending on how I'm riding I switch between regular, Mongo, and goofy
imo loose trucks obviously better for turning but for doing tricks, especially starting out, tighter trucks help you land tricks easier cuz you dont gotta balance so much after the landing. when my trucks are too loose, i lose balance as i land cuz i land leaning too much to one side. til you get better foot placement and balance, tighter trucks makes landing those tricks easier. also its hard to push for more speed on loose trucks cuz u gotta put extra energy keeping balance and staying straight.
Great question. It partly depends on the deck. If it has a lot of concave and your trucks are wider you won't wheelbite as easily since the edges of the deck are further away from the wheels. If the deck doesn't have a lot of concave then or the trucks are only slightly different in size it doesn't make too much of a difference.
my board sounds like if you were to drop wood on the floor, it doesn’t make that click sound from the wheels, it also feels super stiff. Is it my trucks? or...
@@NHSSkateDirect I live in Nepal and I bought my board like 2k here which means like 20 $ in ur country so my wheels does not move . Any recommendations?
If you feel like your board is turning well then it's fine (and better than wheel biting). If it's making it so you're really leaning heavy to make it turn you might want to loosen them.
Right? Rumor I heard was tight in the back with just washers instead of top cushion upfront. To each their own and he's one of the best skaters of all time IMO.
That squeaking is so horrible.. When i buy new Indy’s i just take em apart & grease the bushings with hair pomade. Nice & quiet. And my board smells fresh, like it just got out the barbershop 😂
This is such an underrated video! He gets straight to the point instead of doing weak vs loose truck challenges. Too many of those around.
Thx!

I used to ride somewhat tight but in my old age I have loosened them up and actually have much more control.
yo solid topic for a video!! Just getting back into skating and was looking for a good video on this topic that wasn't Braille (sorry Kyro) LOL

Nice vids guys!!
I just got my first OJ Hot Juice 60mm, do I need riser pad for my board? 🍊
If you care about wheelbite yes
@@underthebridge3323 I don't want to get any wheelbite, so maybe I'm gonna put some risers then, thanks for the answer man..🍻
a 1/8 inch riser if you ride your trucks medium, 1/4 for loose should be good.
every 1/8 riser gives 6mm of wheel clearance, so if you’re changing from 55mm mini juice, 1/8 should be good.
@@mr.jamster8414 maybe I will go with 1/8" riser, more higher makes it difficult to pop the board..Thanks, sir..
Wax wheel bite spot :)
I learned that trick from Caswell Berry. First person I saw do it and was like "Ohhh, that makes sense."
Putting wax in your pivot cups and rubbing some on your bushings to prevent that squeak
I usually take the top washers out of my truck to get them as loose as possible without the truck rattling
What the best for tricks loose or tight trucks?
Tight
It seems the better I get the tighter I want trucks. I think its all street no park board life though.
I think it's normal to go through phases of loosening and tightening. Also depending on tricks, spots, etc. Whatever feels right for you is perfect.
Whale my guy please make a vid talking about Indy’s kingpin like how far should or shouldn’t the kingpin be sticking out!!!!!!!🙏🏿👊🏿
Couldnt have explained it better
Thank you!
my metal cover under is rattleing, what should I do?
As long as your kingpin nut isn't so loose it will fall off you should be fine. Often people who ride loose trucks will have that rattle.
@@NHSSkateDirect thanks
wax {a teeny drop of lube} in the pivot cup to get rid of the creaky sound.
I only do three turns tighter when I get new ones and skate them tell they die
Hey NHS or anyone, are you more likely to get wheel bite with your trucks a little wider than the board or a little narrower?
Great question. It partly depends on the deck. If it has a lot of concave and your trucks are wider you won't wheelbite as easily since the edges of the deck are further away from the wheels.

@@NHSSkateDirect That might be the case.

Chad independents
I still do. I also work for Nhs and happy to speak on behalf of Indy and Creature about how their stuff skates... and fun to try something different.
Long time ago when I was young, my friends made their trucks so tight that the top bushing looked like smashed donuts 🍩
I wwould it loose with very hard bushings 104a or more
How much should I loosen my trucks?
My doesn't goes side at all!!
Enough to where it feels comfortable. Just make sure you don't loosen so much that the nut can fall off. Make sure it reaches the thread lock.
@@NHSSkateDirect I live in Nepal and I bought my board like 2k here which means like 20 $ in ur country so my wheels does not move .

Me over here with my board wheel biteing without me even on it
As long as it doesn't stop you.
I’m new and sometimes my wheels come of the ground when I turn does that mean I need to loosen my trucks or is it okay to have that happen

same
Back truck looser then the front truck is key
My trucks is so tight how to loosen it? It cant with tools
Maybe try taking it to a skateboard shop and see if they can help.
If you go fast enough there is no such thing as wheel bite
Is it me or does anyone else skateboard wheel on one side lift up when they turn even if my trucks are loose
That happens for sure. They have to be super loose to wheelbite both wheels.
Haha idk why im watching this
Nylock = nylon insert.
Someone told me ill break my skateboard with how loose my trucks are
fairly loose for me
I feel like it’s just me who prefers tight trucks
