I’m almost 29 and just getting into skating again and seeing the kids do your stuff is both motivating and demeaning at the same time 😅 it’s great to see them succeeding with your lessons and I know it’s slightly easier for them because their size and body weight but to see them doing all these things makes me think to myself I can definitely do all that stuff too. Idk when learning stuff it’s good to be in that kid mindset where you forget everything you know and focus on the lesson at hand. Everytime I watch your videos I gotta hit the park and try these things out for myself. So far you’ve helped me with my drop ins and roll ins and carving and pumping and now that I’m getting pretty instinctive with those I’m ready to really get this Ollie thing down. 85% of all new skaters since 1992 have learned to skate under the "ollie before kick turn" premise......it chumped skateboarding down badly and opened the door to crazy gimmicks being the norm....skateboarding was slowed down to make it safer and allow people who would have never actually been skaters to be able to become skaters......my book with what really happened to radical skateboarding and the truth is in the works......another great video....thanks

Also good tips on getting comfortable riding before trying to learn the ollie. I think it's strange when I hear about these newcomers to skating who try to ollie as soon as they get their new board. It's the very first thing they try before anything else. When I first started skating in the mid 80s, I wasn't even aware of the ollie. I didn't know about this trick until much, much later. I was probably skating for a year or two before I started learning ollies.

one thing i would like to suggest to anyone learning as someone who is currently struggling with this very thing, focus on your upper body, for alot of people they are going to throw back their arm thats in front because your body naturally wants you to turn towards your front as a safety thing, and it has caused all my ollies to look jank and turn. that is my only other piece of advice. thank you.

I have a major tip for anyone still struggling.
I used to not be able to get my back wheel off the ground at all and it was mainly all because I didn't pop hard enough (due to me being scared to pop hard for some reason and that could of gone alot easier if I was already comfortable on my board) and I also did the foot drag motion somewhat but I only dragged it up a little or bearly at all. I also had the timing all wrong because I kind of took it like steps (pop, drag, land) but really its just supposed to be all at one motion. I finally got my ollies off the ground after getting educated about them and really understanding the proper way to do them. It wasn't just that but it took me a lot of practice and I mean alot like 3 hours a day straight. PRACTICE IS VERY IMPORTANT TRUST ME IT PAYS OFF AND I LEARNED THAT. but annyways here is a list of things you should know for your ollies:
    1. Bend your knees and use them as a spring when you jump
    2. Actually jump while doing the motion
    4. Think of the pop as a flick of your foot
    5. Think of dragging first, because the pop is really quick and it will happen if you know how to do this correctly. (This works for me when I think about it because it helps me always get the timing right but it doesn't work for everybody)
    6. When all 4 wheels are in the air push down the foot that you dragged down to the ground, while lifting the other foot that you popped.
    7. Alot of vids or ppl dont mention this but the drag foot placement before you ollie is super important. If you are a bit taller put the foot you drag with closer to the foot you pop with. If you are shorter like me put the foot you drag with further away from the foot you pop with. (BUT MAKE SURE THAT YOUR FOOT YOU USE TO DRAG IS STILL CLOSE TO THE MIDDLE)
    8. Land each foot on the bolts
    9. If this still doesn't work go back to the simple motions of pop, drag, and land and keep on doing them over and over.
The best advice I can give to you is to practice you will get it eventually and be consistent like do it everyday even if you just try 10 a day you will see some improvement in a week.
If you have any questions feel free to reply!! Have a good day/night
YALL CAN DO THIS I BELEIVE IN YOU🤗

I think the main thing most sk8 teachers miss, is that really high, fast ollies need a more back & fourth motion to bring the board up. When you’re in motion, it looks like you’re “leaping forward” but it’s FEELS like it’s popping back (not down), then using the front foot’s sliding action to push the nose forward as a fulcrum and kinda “lever” the tail up level.
It’s a serious tip that I wish someone would’ve explained to me when I was learning how to get real “jump-height” ollies. There’s a real finesse to a good ollie. Bc you should also feel like you’re facing forward even though your feet are, naturally, side by side. They’re doing a R to L or L to R kinda thing, technically. Idk maybe some ppl do feel it that way, but for me it’s a real back & fourth sorta seesaw motion, and it takes a lot more practice than just ollie-ing up, say, knee-height or less. It took me years to figure it out on my own.
I could do tech, transition, street, when I was younger, but I could never get height on flat ground. I could jump really high, and always had strong legs. Why couldn’t I, or many ppl I knew, just ollie over a folding chair? In 2000, I’m telling ya, it was rare. But once I figured out this idk, technique (?) it seriously changed the game for me.
That was oddly cathartic. Did you actually read that whole thing? Are you still going?
    Ok…

    Can I help you?…
That was it. That was the comment, it’s over.

I’m trying to watch UA-cam. Will you please?
Is there something I can do for you?

Ok look, if you’re just going to continue just looking at me, it’s making me feel uncomfortable.
… ok look just leave me alone. …. Ok?? …
    HEY 👏🏼
    ..YOU 👏🏼
    HELLOOOOOO,

Hey listen, if we’re not cool, just say so. Just tell me, I mean I thought we were cool!
    Well?
    Are you gonna say something?
You know what, idk if this friendship is sustainable. I mean, I give and I give and I give, and you just take take take take take!
This is why you’re adopted! …

    … I didn’t mean that…

    I’m- I’m sorry, no don’t go! Please? Don’t go, I didn’t mean that.
No you’re not … *cough* adopted, I mean idk right? I don’t think you are, I mean.. ok if you ARE adopted, it happened unbeknownst and undisclosed to me.
So, but look it’s been a trip.
    But I gotta go.
This has been a roller coaster hasn’t it?
Have a great life, and stop obsessing over comments. You don’t HAVE to finish all of them, even the really long ones written by super cool musician guys with cool hair and style and stuff. Like me.

I love Braille skateboarding for the tutorials they make and they helped me learn a lot. But now I’ve discovered your channel and it’s great to watch the your videos on the same tricks to get a different perspective. Since discovering you I’ve improved my Ollie flat and started to work on ollies in transition I have also improved my carve turns and got my first ever 50/50 carve grind thanks to your tips. I have also felt more confident to go full send full speed while skating parks now realising with some tricks it’s easier to perform with more speed and it’s safer to bail with the extra hang time to kick the board away if I’m getting air.
Keep up the amazing content bro, love watching your shred while I learn at the same time❤️

Hold the fence for now, and learn your rhythm of popping and get the process of the Ollie comfortable. Once comfortable with fence start on smooth ground going slow. Tennis courts work well. Thanks and good luck

Gonna try this on the fence, when I rode the ollie hardly existed..so I never learned. Being an older skater of 54 just starting out again this will be so helpful😀

Just started to skate at the age of 42. Watched ton's of tutorials but I really liked this one! The "fence-tip" and "leaning forward" was really helpful to me. I never felt any attraction to skateboarding b4 but now it just feel so right.

Hey how are you doing so far? im 28 and started like 3 days ago, im starting to push with more speed but I still have that "no balance" thing where I push with tiny footsteps, but its all about having fun and its really fun doing something for the first time like going down a little ramp.
Good luck on your journey :D
