Lost my dad 12 years ago. I know what you’re saying. The pain never goes away. Might get numb after many years but something will pop up and you feel it again.
I think those of us who experienced the 80s feel heavy nostalgia because we can remember praying for the future to hurry and get here. Never realizing that we were actually in the best days ever...
This song says it all. I wanna go back to the 1980s when things were simpler, people listened to the radio and bought records, watched MTV and there was no computers or cellphones. Eddie Money was one of my favorite artists and this song brings back so many bittersweet memories. Take me back to the good old days.

I’m 60 now somehow, and I feel the same about the 70’s. My Daughter was born in 1981 and loved the music from that era as well. It’s like an aching pain, but also pleasure from the memories all at once.
I'm 64 and it hit me today, when a friend posted a photo of the beach where I spent a ton of time my entire life, until our friends who lived there died in the past year. I immediately thought of this song, played it, and started crying like a baby.
I’m 46 and even when this song was new, I somehow felt like understood what Ed was conveying. Of course now it’s very real. I tend to think humanity peaked somewhere around 1986 😂.
I remember this song back in high school telling my girl friend and friends that we're gonna hear this song one day in the future and Wanna Go Back! Well, that day is today. R.I.P. Eddie.

R.I.P. Eddie Money. This song stayed with me since the 80's. Through military, seeing the world and having children the song still seems to bring me back to the "young years". We all wanna go back with you Eddie. May you sing this to the angels in heaven. Life is precious, exciting, sad, hard, fun and yet it is a one-way trip. But the thought let alone a song that makes you realize how good life is, is truly a gift. TY EDDIE.
Yeah, I loved this song as a kid. Now that I'm middle aged, I have a much greater appreciation of the song. This song about growing older is probably one of the best I've ever heard about the subject. It captures the process perfectly. RIP Eddie.
I was fortunate enough to be front roll center at his no control tour back in about 1987. Memories fade. Wasn’t old enough to drink but still got slammed. There was joint after joint being passed I told the old man at the time he probably was 40 lol. He should be ashamed does his kids know about this. He laughed and pointed to his son partying with us

I saw The Who at Fenway Park last night. I was at a meet and greet buffet and open bar with the band and I thought it was pretty cool when after the DJ played all Who songs for an hour and a half or so, he then played I Wanna Go Back from the late, great Eddie Money. It was a nice tribute. As I'm approaching 54 years old...... I wanna go back. Wow - those high school days.....absolutely amazing times back in the early 80's.
Everyone else thinks this song is about the 80s. But we know it's about when anybody was a teenager in any decade. One guy said I was so wrong. But I said Eddie Money was not a teenager in the 80s. No answer on that.
@kimbergeron9720 I agree with you. Eddie was about 37 when he did this song so I highly doubt it was about a specific era and if any probably the 60s 70s but I think it was probably more about any Era for any teenager. He also did not write the song.
The 40 year olds in the 80’s were saying how they want to go back to the 50’s and 60’s. Instead why not make this time even better. Go out and make some memories.
@@alwaysmiserable .... Wow,,, I am truly sorry for the abuse you endured, however the longer you hold on to it, wherever he is he is still winning. I pray you can heal in your very soul from it all. Never wish eternal hell on anyone, you will live your life in regret, rather pray that in your dads last days which I’m sure he knew and regretted being a pos,,, that he asked forgiveness of God. You see when someone treats others so horribly you have to step back and realize they treated you the same way they were treated as a child. That’s why I said God gives us power and authority to break and rebuke those generational curses. You are nothing like your father was right? Everyone commenting here really hits the nail on the head. We didn't know how lucky we had it. Things will definitely never be the same and it's sad. But those were the best times of my life. Best music, best dancing, best clubs, best parties, best friends, best times together. Simpler times, we had so much hope! Everything and everyone is scary and difficult now, so angry. And everyone I loved is gone now too. I just want those days back. "I wanna go back and do it all over but I can't go back I know".
This generation will never experience what we had in the 80's. I was in my mid 20's, what a time!!! Sucks getting old, but it is not so bad when we can review what we heard and saw.
I met him at a concert. He's the sweetest guy. Held my hand for the longest time and told me that I had the smile of an angel. I will always cherish this memory!
Reading this just made me love Eddie more than I already did. I've heard countless stories about how good of a guy he was. I miss him a lot! I miss my 70s, 80s/early 90s more than I probably should. Makes me tear up a lot thinking about them.

This song was never about going back to the 80s (mostly because it was the 80s when it was written); it’s about wanting to go back in your own life to a time when you felt your were happiest, maybe your childhood or teenage years when you didn’t have to worry about responsibilities or dealing with the real world, but you know that you can’t do that and you have to grow up and mature and be the best adult you can be. Thank you Eddie, for everything! ❤

And ironically, this song is timeless

Sucks getting old & losing another great rock n roller 💔 I wish we could all go back! 😢

So sad today --- Eddie provided so many great songs for my 80's teen years --- I miss him and those good times
I know right? The artists are dropping like flies. Some even in their 50's. Wth?
I agree, I was 17 when No Control came out, many of cruisin nights to that cassette!
*You can get older without getting OLD*
one of the greatest songs ever
I say this almost every day. These times suck!! How sad. 😢 R.I.P Eddie
Every day i say it....friends and good times...miss em
The 40 year olds in the 80’s were saying how they want to go back to the 50’s and 60’s. Instead why not make this time even better. Go out and make some memories.
@@alwaysmiserable .... Wow,,, I am truly sorry for the abuse you endured, however the longer you hold on to it, wherever he is he is still winning. I pray you can heal in your very soul from it all. You can make the change and surrender it over to Almighty God, rebuking that generational curse in Jesus Christ Powerful Name. Almighty God is thee only one who can heal you, if you allow HIM. No matter what, you can change the course of your life and become who you were created to be, you are NOT a product of your father or mother, God made you and every human being uniquely different. My prayer is for your soul to heal. Amen.

God bless Eddie Money RIP I love this video! This song is dedicated to everyone who lost a loved one. ua-cam.com/video/JSbGGiSe3S8/v-deo.html
We were in a golden age but too much in bliss at the time to notice. I thought it would last forever.
This generation will never experience what we had in the 80's. I was in my mid 20's, what a time!!! Sucks getting old, but it is not so bad when we can review what we heard and saw.
100%
Absolutely
So right!
This song reminds me of my mom who passed away 2 weeks ago . I miss an love you momma

I wanna go back to your concert in Erie, PA years ago to relive that great time and the great tunes you sang.
It's a day spent listening to your music. Cheers, Eddie
The unofficial song of those who grew up and listened to rock music in the 80s, because we wanna go back and we know that we can't go back. : (
I don't want to *ever* go back to this terrible decade. Everything in the world is so much better now.
@@scottlarson1548 Really? How is it better now?
@@TheSportsfan35 No civil wars, no Cold War, we have *fewer* nuclear weapons, much less unemployment, inflation is barely a factor, toxic waste is much more regulated (remember Love Canal?), the Middle East is much more peaceful (remember Lebanon?), there is less overt racism and sexism, gays are not being assaulted in public now, people around the world are more connected than ever (no Iron Curtain), we have much better understanding of how our planet and universe works, and despite health care costing ten times as much our life expectancy has gone up five years. It's a *much* better time to be alive.

If I could go back, I know what to correct!

I struggled in the 80s with a low paying job but the music was the best, going to clubs, hanging out at the pool on the weekends. 🎉
