Dj skoob has done it again with another mind blowing to the mm of informative yet crucial insider details that we’ve all been waiting for 🤯👊👊 Thx for sharing your knowledge
I will say, this is the ONLY youtube channel I've found that reviews in a un biased way and goes into such deep details and crucial information but somehow still keeps it simple enough for fishermen to understand. Not sure how you do it Tackle Advisors but great video! It certainly helped me out in picking a surf fishing spinning reel.
I took a Penn Battle 2, 4000 into the Boundary Waters on a 70 miles trip. 50 by canoe, and 20 on foot. The battle stayed outside for all five days. Several days of rain, and one of which was a storm that caused a ton of blow down (aka trees fell over). To this day all Ive done is add the oil it came with and it makes zero noise or clunks. When the bearings start to go, Ill be upgrading them to fully sealed as well as dry lube on the metal surfaces. Would like to try the BG, but its hard to turn my back on what the battle has went through and laughed at.
Great review. I have had a battle 2 6000 for 3 years now and have caught multiple mahi/tuna on it. The drag and reel still work great with minor maintenance. We will always find small flaws with any reel, but I will keep buying penn reels in the near future.
Excellent in depth comparison. I'm fishing 2 Daiwa BGs in different sizes for about a year now. When new I did a tear down, lube and rebuild following your maintenance tutorial for the BG. Not because they needed it but because I liked to. They have been brilliant. They feel and perform so good up to a point that I wonder where I need my much more expensive Shimano's for. Love'm!
I have the original Penn Battle, it has been a great reel except for two things. On occasion the fishing line becomes trapped under the spool and wraps around the main shaft. Second, the rotor wobbles while in use ( something loose?). 😢
Good info, been fishing the tsunami shield 3000 & 4000. Been true too Shimano for years. I’m mainly saltwater fishing, in the mid Atlantic regions. Tsunami has been and still is being put to the test. I’m impressed. Time will tell the truth.
Watched this video a few times. Got a raise this month and now a Bg2000 on it's way. Thank you for the thorough reviews. Truly a blessing to those of us not able to take time or spend the cash to make the comparisons ourselves.
Had a blast testing The Diawa BG saltwater reels 3000 this past fall Salmon fishing. I was looking for a reel that friends and kids could use to beat the heck out of fishing Chinook / Coho Salmon. Skein and bobber fishing Salmon in fresh water streams of Michigan. Worked great, Great drag, Takes a beating... Not a loose screw one reel 500 salmon later.. We also had fun testing the Diawa Tatula 3000 &4000 , Shimano stradic 3000 & 4000 , The 2500 Stella, Diawa Revros 2500 and The Pflueger. The only reel we did not like was the Pflueger. Just watched one of your reviews for the first time... I liked your review alot !!! Finally someone who takes the reels apart and explains the interworkings of the reel with a materials list.. Thanks for the good reviews .... If you ever need a reel to review let me know i have a bunch.... I purchaed 15 different reels looking to see how they would hold up to all fishing. Steelhead,Salmon,Gills Trout,Pike ,walleye. We have a world class fishery here in Michigan. I fish alot... My father will fish 200 plus days per year. He recently broke the Stella he purchased in the early 90's .... the reel had a estamated 30,000 fish under its belt. I am kinda hoping they still make that kind of quality reel since i just purchased my first Stella this seaon 2018. My dad sent in his Stella reel for a cleaning. The man who cleaned the Stella my father owned said in 30 years he had never seen a reel look so used ?? lolololol Ended up charging a cleaning fee lol...
You are the only person that understands that line lay will cause a knot. I've told people it does for a long time and nobody believed me, so glad I've found someone else who notices it. Quantum has the worse line lay.
Penn fan boy right here!! Battle 2 is a great reel and built solid. Your rod n REEL is important to your fishing experience. If your first time fishing is with a good reel more likely you'll enjoy fishing.
I love the penn battle and the bg. They are both black and gold they look super similar. They are like twins, that hate each other and always fight over who is better. I hope you get what I’m saying lol. 😂
Hey mate. Appreciate a no nonsense, bulls*it free review. Good to see a technical review as opposed to an opinion piece based on use but never even looking at internals. You've got another subscriber.
So get the daiwa ballistic ex 2000h it's water sealed has a 5.6:1 gear ratio handle is very comfortable had it dunked in fresh and saltwater cought tarpon and all kinds of fish on it and it still feels brand new I know it cost $240 but it's by far worth it
Excellent reel comparison. It was nice to see a cameo appearance of a Daiwa Emblem reel. I have a Daiwa Emblem-S 2500iA reel and it's still going strong.
I really am happy to be a part of the subscription . I respect your time your dedication and the way you articulate yourself bud . Please keep up the good work
Older video, but still relevant. I just bought Daiwa BG 4500 and 2500. Have only fished the 2500 so far. I have 8 lb mono on it and it casts far and reels smooth. Both BGs have excellent line lay with mono, 15 lb on the 4500. I also just bought a Fuego 4000 LT. I am outfitting to start light surf fishing in NC, haven’t gone yet. I have 20 lb braid on one spool and 15 lb mono on the other. Both have excellent line lay. Hope they fish well.
Just subscribed to your channel. Hands down some of the best reel reviews on the internet. Really starting to understand how these companies work when it comes to marketing and pricing on some of these reels. Will definitely help me on purchasing decisions.
Sooo, I lost my much used and loved older Daiwa BG20 Ugly stick combo yesterday, I still have its twin on a Crowley Rod. After much debate I chose the BG4000 as its replacement over the battle II. The BG20 landed some pretty big saltwater fish including a 35LB Mahi on 12lb test mono backed with braid. I hope the BG4000 proves as reliable. The clincher was the comment regarding the battle II wind knots. If not for that I would have gone with the PENN.
Just got a saltwater BG 5000 and could not be more pleased for the price. If nobody told me,would swear it cost 150$ or up. Excellent deal for the price. Very solid and well made. Puts the spinfisher V I bought a few years back to shame.
The battle vs bg comparison was fascinating. Kudos to you for pointing out the bearing noise at the end of the review. Those bearings are virtually dry in the new reels and they will fail [ask me how I know]. Penn definitely outdid Daiwa on preventing failure on the pinion bearing. I also like the fact that the carbon drag washers are keyed to the spool. That main gear on the shield is pitiful. It would last no time on snapper and amberjacks. Whenever you hold a spool up to the camera to show the line lay it looks like there is way to heavy a braid on the spools. Those spool line clips are just aggravating. Most of the time the flouro leader you are using won't begin to go under that clip. Really was a fun hour watch all in all. Good job!
I own 3 out of these 6 egg beaters (BG4000, Shield 5000 and a 4000 Nasci). After more than a hard fishing year on the water, I must give it to the shield as it is still holding strong. aside of the overall quality of the shield (body Finish, not so strong handle and the looks of a $25 reel) it still looks and feels the same out of the box. compared to the BG which got very loose and wiggly after one season. One recommendation to the Shield is to convert it to a manual bail. Also, this is a tough reel to match/balance to a good rod, after many trials, I paired it with a Lamiglas Insane 9ft surf rod. you get yourself a great $200 surf setup. looking forward to seeing the Tsunami SaltX and what it would bring to the table against fully sealed reels in the market.
Hi great video my favorite reel is an old Michell reel i have it 30 years plus i take it apart every year and clean out the old grease and pack it with new grease it had 2 spools with it when it was new but i lost one about 20 years a go i have pulled in a few pike 20 Lb and over it has never let me down
You have the BEST reviews! Thank you. Elias knows how to stress a reel. You two working together lends credibility to the reviews. I am now a believer.
I had my Okuma Cedros drop in the surf today and it got full of sand in under two minutes in order to get into the gear box at all lit required a total take down odds are I'll be replacing it with a Penn as you can just remove the crank and take the side cover off food for thought. It didn't go back together very well.
Thanks David! Appreciate it. Since you own some was there anything you found that I was off on? I ask because these things are all mass produced built for max profit....so your mileage may vary. The more feedback the merrier!
I have several tsunami 3000 and 4000. I fish only salt water and I have not had one single issue with corrosion or bearings. What I have had is a bail issue on all of them where when you attempt to make a firm long cast the bail will close during the cast. This obviously makes you look like a casting pro lol. I’m not sure if there is a fix for this issue. On one of my 4000’s shields my main gear sheared some teeth. I have been back and fourth with tsunami’s warranty provider for over 6 months and have been unable to get repair parts. Last I was told if they didn’t get parts soon they would send out a new reel. I like the shields as far as how they have held up but the bail closing issue and warranty and parts availability have me looking at other options in the future. Figured I would share my experiences with them being I have 5 shields.
amazing channel and an asset to new fishermen like myself who are trying to get the best bang for the buck. I'm thinking BG 2500 or fuego LT...decisons decisions it'll be my primary setup for peacock and large mouth in s. fl. 98% of the time fished freshwater from shore with the very rare inshore stuff. both reels are @ the $100 price point and I know the fuego's are new, and elias video has me concerned for durability? seems like corvette (fuego) vs pick up truck (BG) rod is a custom blank from bully bay rods super light MF 7'6 for #6-12# stuff. for your only rod/reel combo would you go BG or fuego?
I love these videos my friend thank you. I’m actually not “Bias” either towards Fishing Reels I just like buying quality so I buy Shimano lol. I did buy from the Amazon Warehouse a Tempo Apex Plus spinning reel for 23 bucks , it reads Magnesium Body but I doubt it lol but it’s a remarkable Fishing Reel and I’ve used in my 40 years of throwing junk in the water a few Top Tier Reels and had the pleasure of using a Staal on the Pier in Chesapeake a few years ago from an Elderly Gentleman who said hey “you gotta try this Reel” lol. Great Video my Friend thank you for your Honesty and keeping us from buying Junk. Semper Fidelis
Great video, very informative and entertaining. Also at 13:15 you lost that bet buddy, that was the first thing that crossed my mind when you placed them side by side lol
I run a Nasci 1000 on my ultralight rig for freshwater light-line finesse work. It services easily and runs like silk despite a good number of fights when I hooked into fish far bigger than my intended species. My issue is that I’m looking to replace my 3000 size spinning reel for bulkier freshwater finesse fishing. Between this video and my baseline experience with the Nasci, I have a couple great options on the table. Thanks for making such a thorough video; very appreciated from a guy who services his own reels.
Awesome video, again.A little small, but very important issue, that doesn't seem to be addressed very often is the size of the reel foot. I purchased a new surf rod, and my venerable Penn 8500 SS reel foot wouldn't fit into the rod Fuji reel seat. So, purchased a Penn Pursuit III to replace the 8500, and...the Pursuit III reel foot won't fit either. And, gee, my Daiwa BG 4000 reel foot fits into the rod reel seat just fine, so I have now ordered a new larger (to fit the rod) Daiwa BG. My grandfather used Penns, my dad uses Penns, but for spinning reels, I'm going a different direction. Great comment at 1:02:23 about bearings. Folks have a sense that stainless doesn't rust - wrong. Stainless is rust resistant, but not rust proof. Stainless metal comes in different grades, as well, and some bearings will rust more quickly than others if not service properly. Stainless needs servicing, just like any metal, just not as often or quite so diligently. Thanks for what you do!
Thanks for the video and all the information you provided. I own the Diawa BG 4000 I love it. I was thinking of buying the shield but with that crappy main gear and the side cap that spins defiantly not worth the money.
Be mindful that the Tsunami Shield may look good from a simple reel break-down review, but in actual use, people are experiencing a great deal of quality issues with those reels. A friend of mine who works for a major tackle retailer told me that those reels are having a very high return rate for quality issues; mainly the dreaded "Tsunami clunk/Squeal" after a few uses. Quality seems very hit or miss and the company doesn't seem very keen on customer service. Might want to do some additional research before buying.
Thanks Man!!! I know it's tough to convince people to click on shit....but all I gotta say is....GENERAL TSO'S BLACKFISH... I strongly suggest anyone who sees this..Check out this guys channel....Really cool stuff..the dude is a helluva cook!
I wish i had seen this sooner. My socorro sw 6000 is used as a bait chunking reel on the jetties. Now, 3 weeks ago it got dragged into the ship channel off the jetties. I jumped in (instincts kicked in, id never recommend doing this) and retrievd it. It was banged up and was completely submerged in saltwater for a few minutes. I figured that the cheap reel was done for. All i did was rinse it off, and one month later, it fishes and feels exactly the same it did when i bought it. For a jetty beater, i couldn't ask for more from a $130 reel.
Thank you very much for the in-depth review! Excellent and to the point. Granted it'll never cover everything everybody gonna wanna know but you did a great job and contributed tremendously to fishing community, as well as manufacturing process (for those who cares to listen and I know smart ones are listening). My main reels are Daiwa BGs, and recently got a few Fuego LTs, amongst baitcasters, conventionals. I have yet used Fuego LT much and will try to remember to update once I've got a few miles out of those. I fish from surf and banks, typically red/black drums, speckled trouts with occasional bluefish, and typical trashes. Once in a while I do kayak as well, thus the reason for Fuego. Keep up the good work and thank you again fro LA!
How has your Fuego stacked up against the BG? If the performance is similar I will definitely go Fuego LT, based on the sole fact that it is lighter. Biggest complaint I've heard is that the Fuego LT can flex when handling larger fish.
@@STiMPUTELLO Recently I used more of the Fuego LT than BG, because it's lighter. And I finally broke down and fixed the line lay issue of the Fuego, by adding one extra plastic shim. Both of my Fuego's got this problem out of the box. Sad really. If you google, you'll see that this is a very common issue. About 2 weeks ago, me and my son went fishing, we got several 20+" reds on both BG and Fuego. Performance wise, no difference. Weight wise, I prefer Fuego.
Though the Socorro wasn't the best option at $130, Cabela's currently has it on sale for $69 free shipping. Which is more of an appropriate price. Only downside is it is currently on backorder now... So my plan to head to academy tomorrow and try to get them to price match it, as their policy states they will price match select retailers (Cabela's included) and beat their price by 5%. So, a $129.99 reel for only $66ish? I can't pass that up! I've been looking for another, slightly cheaper setup to go with my Daiwa BG for surf fishing here in the Louisiana gulf. I was considering the Penn Fierce II for around $59.99, but I feel that the Socorro is a slighly better reel, although definitely not worth it's full retail price. I do plan on buying the two 99 cent seals from the Nasci now that you have shown they seem to fit. So thank you very much for that.
Im filming the Penn slammer 3 vs saragosa vs Saltist right now...just taking a break from tearing them all down. The slammer 3 is the best on paper....but the Saragosa has proven itself. Next comes sizing. If you need a heavy action reel like a Saragosa 8000 or 10000 or Penn Slammer 3 5500..take a gander at them in person...as they are physicallly large. I use 9'6 and 10'6 ML rods with 15 ounce ish reels....And I use 22 ounce reels on 10' -11 heavier rods I like to make sure I have 250 yards of whatever lb test braid i'm using. (at least that's my preference anyways :) ) For the 100$ price......if you watched the video i gave pretty much all the info needed to make that decision.
@@TackleAdvisors Thanks for the reply. I got the saragosa 5000 pair with the okuma cedros csx surf rod 10'.6'' and it's a sweet set up for throwing plugs. Also got the slammer 5500 but nearly lost it when a big Jack took it out of the sand spike because the drag is tite so now I use the slammer when I go boat fishing.
Very helpful video. Thanks for this multi reel comparison review from your own perspective, It is much appreciated. The Socorro was a reel I was looking at a few months back, Now, after seeing this video I am happy I didn"t get it. I have the same view on the hex handles as you ( I see it as a bad design).
great review! picked up a fuego lt 2500 xh in part because of this vid. one thing i noticed was the initial top-heavy line lay, heavy even for a diawa (spooled 20 lb super 8 slick). i added one of the included spool spacers, and while it evened things out a bit, i noticed the line tended to favor one side vs the other. it's almost as if the 'cylinder' of line was slightly tilted off axis, as if the spool sits crooked on the main shaft. visually eye-balling the spool though, it seems to sit square to the body and rotor, so i'm not sure where the disconnect is. any similar experience with yours?
Hey man! Thank brotha! (and no i wasn't talkin about you in the beginning :) the tackle tour types were who i was aiming that at! ) I think I mentioned the awful line lay until I shimmed it. Did you notice that pain in the ass clear ring holding the bearing in place? That was a pain..lol...After it was shimmed the line lay was very good. Not Aero technium which is #1 spectacular....Not stella which is amazing.......not Ballistic / fuego which is great..... But very good.....lol that's why i colored the line to show the angles and pattern. and the close ups. It's better than the nasci....but i think the okuma epixor xt beats it....As does the mitchel.....Not sure why though...it is a different idler that runs the oscilation cam.....It's metal...tatula lt and ballistic are plastic....strange right? THe uneveness of the wraps usually mean the spool drops a tad too quickly as the rotor makes it's way around...clearly seen in the pics of hte penn spool. A tad longer at the top or bottom would likely make it appear more square if the line being laid is round as it would likely fall into place
ha no worries, and thx for the info. yeah, that clear ring was crazy tight, i had to shimmy it off with an exacto (or 2). maybe my spacer isn't sitting flush, i'll retry. i just saw your surfperch comment, thx for watching bro! fun fish those surfperch, like big ole angry panfish in the surf. can't wait to put the fuego up against them👊
The biggest failing part in some reels wasnt talked about....the bail arm pivot lever. Its one of the cheapest parts and receives a ton of stress. Its probably the only part in a reel that slams to a stop every time you cast. Ive had it break in my penn battle as well as an abu revo sx (2 times). I hand close my bails always, but still. I stumbled on your videos, good stuff, gonna follow. Thanks.
Bob Strempek I agree. I've got 2 Abus with broken bail arms in my shed. Never had a problem with any Shimanos or Daiwas. It just so happens my only 2 Abus both have broken bails!
Bob Strempek Thanks! will do. I just think its a shame that both reels have the same problem and aren't 2 years old yet. And my wife seldomly fishes (her reels). They're not high end reels but I've had Shakespeare reels last longer without problems that have been fished way more than my wife's reels. I'll never buy another Abu spinner again. I shouldn't have to deal with this when 1 of the reels is not even a year old.
You did the soccorro dirty, had my 8000 for a while now and have had no problems just rinse with fresh water, the drag is pretty smooth, 27 lbs or drag and a perfect open oceans or shire fishing reel
Do you have any reviews on the Penn Slammer III, Penn Clash II vs a similarly priced other brand such as Shimano, Diawa, etc.? Yes, I do realize this review is about a year old. Great reviews! Thx man!
I know this posting is a couple of years old but it has helped me so much..Thank you....I am now a sub to your channel, I can now checkout all your vids!..
TA, curious as to why we don't see Abu Garcia Revo or Quantum Performance Tuned reels in your videos? Looked at the Abu Garcia Revo Spinning Reel in Academy the other day and it felt very smooth for a $100.
paid $75 for socorro Sw 6000 from cabelas 2 years ago, fished the shit out of it, pulled stripers from 10-49 lbs at the cape cod canal and it still hold up well, drags was so good, gears were still perfect when i opened it, only problem i had was dropping it in the water while unhooking the fish, and the AR clutch got SW in it, i cleaned it out at the end of the season and worked just fine, best $75 i've ever spent on . still one of my favorite reel to this day :)
Thanks for the info and really appreciate the time you put in to make this video. BTW, don’t know if it was intentional or not but if you want all the Amazon links to be clickable you’ll need to add the full URL to the links like you did with the Pen battle II 4000 link. Awesome video.
Thanks man!!!! Ahhhhh...thank you very much.....I uploaded this vid 3 times here and once on d tube. (youtube demonitized it before i sent it out to the public here which was weird) The copy and paste from google docs i guess messes with the url. Thanks for the heads up!!
When your doing these reviews I feel like the reels are teams in a sport all trying to win the super bowl, which would be your favorite reel in this case. It gets me so into it I just can’t look away from the screen.
Fabulous job Scoob! I don't watch a lot of reel reviews but it cracks me up when you have some joker "review" the reel by reading the specs. Or when the same guy says "Brand X is lighter in the 2500 size than Brand Y but it holds less line." Ummmm yeah, perhaps because it a smaller reel? Reminds me of "But this one goes to 11." Can't wait for albie season the put the BG back into service. After your vid, I may have to give the Tsunami another shot. I was sure it was going to win the top turd prize
Good information, well done, and well timed! We've been shopping for another inshore reel, and the BG was high on the list. One question could seal the deal: You mentioned replacing the BG ball bearing around the pinion with a $10 ceramic unit that would avoid possible corrosion. Where are those available? "Bearing Shack"? How many different sizes of bearing are used, since there are so many in the BG line? Is it a difficult part to replace, or should a shop do it?
Thanks woody, Unfortunately daiwa sucks at posting bearing sizes....Best bet open the schematic and email or call their customer service with the part numbers asking for sizes. The top pinion bearing throug daiwa will cost 20$ And will corrode if salt gets in there....I ordered this one for the 4k amzn.to/2CVVOc7 (top of the pinion bearing) haven't received it yet....should work fine. There are a few diff bearing sizes used. The main problem bearing being the top pinion bearing. Sideplate bearings can be protected by greasing.
Thanks for the information. As it turns out, my choice, for now, turned out to be "none of the above". The BG's with the capacity & specs we needed were several ounces heavier than planned ( 3000 & 3500 ) and industrial strength isn't really needed. In the Fall, a BG2500 could join the party, but for now I have a couple of antiques for backup.
If you’re getting spooled and want to break off the fish, just grab the spool. The line should break at the weakest point which is usually the knot to your lure, unless you have a weak leader knot. If you’re running braid to leader typically you lose the lure but you get everything including your leader back
Some of you out there act like you gonna be catching 1000lb marlin with these reels. One fishing outing here in hawaii I caught 5 yellow fin tuna ranging from 48lbs to 126lbs, on a battle 2 8000 reel with zero problems. The very next day I caught a 80lbs Trevally from shore on the same reel. Its been 3 years since I bought the reel and with regular maintenance, its still close to new. Since new, I've probably caught at least 80-90 fish average about 20-30lbs on the battle 2. The 3 main reasons why I went with the battle 2....fair price, easy maintenance, and a ton of parts available if needed. I love Daiwa BG line as well but they are a little harder to maintain.
My bg2500 line lay was ok with mono switched to braid and it was very heavy up top looked like a V I didnt have any shims so I called daiwa and they sent me one white shim a red piece and a tiny rubber seal. I dont think this was exactly what I needed but I stacked the red piece with the red piece that was already there and it lays so much better now. Also I tested it yesterday and had no wind knots which I was getting all the time before.
Ever watch Elias V's channel? He was sponsored by Krap King for awhile. Before he moved south he gave me his last Kodiak....Junk..He'd go through a reel every other week....Pissyfun.....junk....... Now keep in mind...any fishing reel will do it's job. Especially for FW bass fishing where the most abuse occurs at the hookset. But if you are an avid angler who invests their time learning the sport fishes heavy cover and does so often targeting larger fish while fishing braid. Buy from one of the Big 2 or 3. Right now in the fw game there is Shimano, Daiwa, and everyone else. And this year they paid special attention to the $100
This was a fantastic reel. I have used both the BGs and Battle 2s. when it comes to the handle being one piece or it breaks down such as the battle 2, I prefer the battle 2 style. when it comes to storage under the gunwales on a flats boat you usually run into storage space issues. being able to loosen the handle and fold that handle in it allows it to fit better and also don't run into the issue of handles being kicked. which has been a problem. but to each their own. but awesome review!! Tight lines!!
Yup... Strong reel... I have my friends 3500 in pieces as a reminder of how strong that reel is... A thousand Stripers anchored in heavy current up to 40lbs... And the clutch finally failed.. Lol
dirga: some sizes are different!, it's as if you compare mountain bike with road bike!! spinfisher low RETRIEVE/IPT= better for jigging sf4500 34" vs bg4000 40" medium sf6500 39" vs bg5000 47.5" all these have high ratio but BG +DIAMETER SPOOL spinfisher better sealed and +drag....bg more fluid and silent. It depends on what fishing....
@@danielbeavers8701 ok mate!, I haven´t proven any of them yet!. I only say it to separate the differences...do you have several bg models and do you fish?
BG all the way. Dump two BG both in the surf. Almost got dragged into the rip. Came up clean and reel fine. Opened after coming home and was clean inside.
Nice insightful, thorough, precise breakdown. Keep it up! Makes feel even more confident on the Nasci I have, but time will tell on that. I think you know I'm a bit of Shimano fanboy, but love your insight on similar models of different brands!
Hi Tackle Advisors, I’m a new guy for Daiwa freshwater spinning reels (such as Revros) and I notice that the spool has a lot of horizontal play when we insert it on the shaft without the drag knob. It is only when we turn the drag knob and it gets tighter that the spool will not oscillate horizontally. I have not noticed all that play that on Shimano reels. Is that working as designed on Daiwas?
Spool play is common especially when the drag knob is not there to compress anything. Often when the knob is tight there may be some play but it may also be internal. There is some play in the spool shaft
I've been informed previously that this spool 'play'....and it is present even under a fighting drag setting.... is an intentional and functional design by Daiwa. From memory, the spool is afforded some room to move so as to allow it to pivot under a controlled manner to find its "point of least resistance", the aim being to relieve stress points on the main shaft and rotor...spreading the load/torque moment over a larger proportion of the reel assembly. I Have a few Daiwa reels like this, and while I can kind of envisage how its supposed to work...... I can't scientifically prove its effectiveness or otherwise. The reels i have certainly don't seem to be negatively affected by this 'feature' anyway.
Hi Black C, that's exactly what I thought, this is an intentional design, considering all technology and engineering from Daiwa. However, as I was fishing more with Shimano I thought the play meant some defect, but after comparing two different Daiwa models, I figured out it was as designed. Thank you for your answer.
I have a revros 2500 and I cannot stand it compared the diawa theory I purchsed cheap years ago, otherwise I love the diawa made cabelas prodigy 2500 composite reel.
Everyone is raving about the BG so i decided to buy it. Four times. Four different shops. Every BG reel i tried feels rough in the gears. Any daiwa LT reel feels in different class in terms of gears feel. Nasci and even sahars feel much smoother as well, much smoother. I really wanter to buy a couple but they feel rough to me.
On point as per usual with the $99 egg beater Shootout! I had 3 (+?) commercial's, hoping that's a good sign you weren't demonized again. Finally broke in the new BG2500 last week, now I too can say I'll never buy another bogus hex handle egg beater again. Thanks for the suggestion and tight lines brotha!
Thanks man! Catch'emup!! So far I haven't been hit with the yellow dollar. I added a couple slots of ads..hoping they were little banners..not full blown commercials...That connection makes a difference...If you made it to the 1 hour mark you can see how shimano took a step backwards to how they did it 20 years ago
Yes they were like 10-15 second snippets. I'm guessing that's a banner? Just curious, if I skip the ad do you still get credited the same? Oh yeah I watched it all, always do, and will probably watch it again sometime when the weather/water's shitty. Keep em coming.
Banners are little ads that overlay at the bottom that you can close....Then there are non skipable and skipable commercials. I'm not certain how I think it works the same. Either way my CPM's which is how much $$$ i earn per 1000 views..is pretty high compared to others some who are 10x my size. 3.50 to 4.00 per thousand views. So whatever it is and however it works. It works for me! LOL.. Thanks brotha
Maybe im just a neophyte but I feel my NASCI is smoother than my Stradic Ci4+. Im not sure if I just dont have a grasp of the nuances of the reel or if there is an adjustment in the Stradic I am missing. Both 2500 reels on comp rods.
Possible..the nasci is smoother than the other 5 reels on the table. Something about plastic reels and how it's almost like the less rigid frame material cushions some of the gear interation.....It also sounds diffferent than the stradic....has a higher pitch whir. I have a ci4+ sitting right next to the nasci a stella, exsence and ultegra as direct comparisions...and it's winds as fluid as the top tier reels..
I know this is an old video, but for the recessed nut found in the Soccoro, is there a place I can purchase the seal to place there? I bought mine for $24 so I am not too worried about spending a little bit extra on some extra parts that could improve my reel. Love your videos btw!
Dj skoob has done it again with another mind blowing to the mm of informative yet crucial insider details that we’ve all been waiting for 🤯👊👊 Thx for sharing your knowledge
Dj scribbledoo lmao
I'll have you know I prefer the tool "bag" pronoun
Tackle Advisors Snap on Tools at least they were best back in the day Lmao
Snap on trucks were the manliest toy stores on wheels....well...other than the matco.....
You my friend are cool thanks for the input are the shishmo reels any good
I will say, this is the ONLY youtube channel I've found that reviews in a un biased way and goes into such deep details and crucial information but somehow still keeps it simple enough for fishermen to understand. Not sure how you do it Tackle Advisors but great video! It certainly helped me out in picking a surf fishing spinning reel.
this is the longest you tube video i have finished watching. that pretty much sums up what i think about your videos. love em
LMAO thanks luke!!! Now get a life and go fishin lmao!!!
Ty for comment.. i buy 8000 now
Please promise us you will always keep the reviews this honest. Absolutely brilliant video as usual. Thank you.
Love'm!
Best review I’ve ever read; and Ihave read many in my 70 years. Professional.
I appreciate the unbiased reviews my good sir. Nothing says honest review like having a matching T-shirt and hat of the product you're reviewing.
I have the original Penn Battle, it has been a great reel except for two things. On occasion the fishing line becomes trapped under the spool and wraps around the main shaft. Second, the rotor wobbles while in use ( something loose?). 😢
Great video.. Thanks from Northern Ireland.. I have used a penn battle 3 for salmon.. Got a Daiwa BG....Daiwa BG for me
Good info, been fishing the tsunami shield 3000 & 4000.
Been true too Shimano for years. I’m mainly saltwater fishing, in the mid Atlantic regions. Tsunami has been and still is being put to the test.
I’m impressed.
Time will tell the truth.
Man SERIOUSLY.....if more businesses had people like you the world would be a better place
And there'd be alot less businesses
Watched this video a few times. Got a raise this month and now a Bg2000 on it's way. Thank you for the thorough reviews. Truly a blessing to those of us not able to take time or spend the cash to make the comparisons ourselves.
Quality content right here! never thought someone would do such comprehensive review.
I didn't think I'd stick around past 20 min, ended up watching the whole thing. Great, no bs, review. You have a new suscriber.
LOL...I didn't even make it that far! LMAO....Thanks a ton man! Appreciate it!
I had the Penn Battle 2 in my cart until watching this video - and then changed it to the BG - and for some reason I can't pull the trigger on either!
TL;DR/W - Daiwa BG Wins..
ty lol
Daiwa bg they are ok but wouldn’t buy I broke mine fighting a blavk fish . The bail broke first day lols .
I got the BG and the Battle2...they both work great l love them both
Just got a saltwater BG 5000 and could not be more pleased for the price.
Good job!
what an amazing, full of usefull info video!
didn't think i was gonna watch the whole video, i made my choice,
i bought Daiwa BG!
thanks a lot pal.
Hey Jeddah.. Glad you found it beneficial! Best of luck and tight lines
Hi great video my favorite reel is an old Michell reel i have it 30 years plus i take it apart every year and clean out the old grease and pack it with new grease it had 2 spools with it when it was new but i lost one about 20 years a go i have pulled in a few pike 20 Lb and over it has never let me down
That's awesome! My #1 reel is a 1980's vintage Mitchell 300A. For a spare spool they pop up on eBay regularly
Dude, this video is straight AWESOME. Thank you for breaking it down for us! Keep these videos coming, please!
Thanks man glad you enjoyed it. I think I've put out 70 more since :)
Absolutely the best reel reviewer out there!! Keep them coming!!
That was the single best review that I have watched. I have a few of those reels and what I heard made sense. Thanks a million.
I'm thinking BG 2500 or fuego LT...decisons decisions it'll be my primary setup for peacock and large mouth in s. fl. 98% of the time fished freshwater from shore with the very rare inshore stuff.
both reels are @ the $100 price point and I know the fuego's are new, and elias video has me concerned for durability? seems like corvette (fuego) vs pick up truck (BG) rod is a custom blank from bully bay rods super light MF 7'6 for #6-12# stuff. for your only rod/reel combo would you go BG or fuego?
cmason87 I got fuego because i do
Finesse style fishing with under spin jig heads
Daiwa BG or Tsunami Shield for surf/jetty fishing?
You’re the AvE of fishing equipment 😆 love it!
Love ave!
Shimanos are skookum AF. Keep your rod in a vice
I've watched this video multiple time- always learn something new for my reel purchasing decisions. Thank you
Great video, very informative and entertaining.
Desert Dog Outdoors I have two, one as a backup to my VS, both smooth as silk like they just came out of the box.
1 hr 7 minutes, and not a second of it was redundant/read from the box "review" material.
Thanks Man!!! I know it's tough to convince people to click on shit....but all I gotta say is....GENERAL TSO'S BLACKFISH... I strongly suggest anyone who sees this..Check out this guys channel....Really cool stuff..the dude is a helluva cook!
Tackle Advisors he’ll yeaaa
This might be the best video you have ever done.
It definitely took me the longest lol
Have you ever looked at the lews custom inshore spinning reel? I’m curious how it would stack up compared to these.
Wow! What a thorough detailed review! Learned a ton watching this. I’m a novice and looking to upgrade my kit - Is there an update for 2020 for the
Bg is still top, Battle is about to have a new one come out, but id wait to see how it is before buying.
Weight wise, I prefer Fuego.
how often does the mag seal last does it diminish say if your fishing all day in the hot sun...I'm on Oahu and no one here services daiwa!
Do you ever review fleuger reels compared to daiwa bg and shimano nasci?
Hi. Which reel can you recommend for throwing lures with a 10' rod in the surf please? Really detailed review by the way!
I use 9'6 and 10'6 ML rods with 15 ounce ish reels....And I use 22 ounce reels on 10' -11 heavier rods
I like to make sure I have 250 yards of whatever lb test braid i'm using. (at least that's my preference anyways :) )
For the 100$ price......if you watched the video i gave pretty much all the info needed to make that decision.
It just so happens my only 2 Abus both have broken bails!
jimbo gasoline, easy fix jimbo, youtube abu bail arm, $2 part, order extras
Cameron Bradford He told the truth! Socorro is a poorly engineered heavy piece of junk!!!
Man your channel saved my fishing life!! Keep up the great work
I love your reviews, your job is to be what some call picky, its what separates reels.
TA, curious as to why we don't see Abu Garcia Revo or Quantum Performance Tuned reels in your videos?
Looked at the Abu Garcia Revo Spinning Reel in Academy the other day and it felt very smooth for a $100.
The reel scientists is back great video as always
paid $75 for socorro Sw 6000 from cabelas 2 years ago, fished the shit out of it, pulled stripers from 10-49 lbs at the cape cod canal and it still hold up well, drags was so good, gears were still perfect when i opened it, only problem i had was dropping it in the water while unhooking the fish, and the AR clutch got SW in it, i cleaned it out at the end of the season and worked just fine, best $75 i've ever spent on . still one of my favorite reel to this day :)
If the handle on the Sirrocco feels heavy it is probably some form of Zinc alloy
I only fish the surf maybe a handful of times a year. Thinking the shield may be my best option for a surf specific reel?
What about the shimano sedona?
Yea! This was my first reel
Waited for this video so long I bought a Fuego LT in the meantime :D Cant believe it's an hour long... You're doing an awesome job, keep it up!
Lots of info! Fuego LT packs a ton of value for 100$
It's essentially a miniature fancy plastic saltist
Thanks brotha!
Reminds me of "But this one goes to 11."
Can't wait for albie season the put the BG back into service. After your vid, I may have to give the Tsunami another shot. I was sure it was going to win the top turd prize
I would go with battle 2. It handled this roosterfish you see on my icon with no problems.
In the Fall, a BG2500 could join the party, but for now I have a couple of antiques for backup.
i owned a Daiwa Fuego LT and when i had a fish on, the fish was pulling so much drag so fast that my drag knob popped off and had to cut line off.
Should've tightened your drag its not the product that made that happen its you because youbhad the drag sooo loose that the drag knob popped off
If you’re getting spooled and want to break off the fish, just grab the spool.
My bg2500 line lay was ok with mono switched to braid and it was very heavy up top looked like a V
I didnt have any shims so I called daiwa and they sent me one white shim a red piece and a tiny rubber seal.
I dont think this was exactly what I needed but I stacked the red piece with the red piece that was already there and it lays so much better now.
Also I tested it yesterday and had no wind knots which I was getting all the time before.
Your reviews are awesome!!! What do you think 🤔 of the kastking kodiak and the piscifun spartan reels? I would really like to know your thoughts!
This is so good because you never get to take them apart in the store b4 you buy.
So thinking of the BGover the Fuego in the 3500 range for a 7' ft rod.for NE kayak fishing for Stripers knowing water may get in...good choice
Yup... Strong reel... I have my friends 3500 in pieces as a reminder of how strong that reel is... A thousand Stripers anchored in heavy current up to 40lbs... And the clutch finally failed.. Lol
Which is better between Daiwa BG vs Penn Spinfisher VI ???
Diawa bg. I love them. Its a beast does everything really well
@@danielbeavers8701 Quality / price is top but not everything does well because it would not be worth to jigging
dirga: some sizes are different!, it's as if you compare mountain bike with road bike!!
spinfisher low RETRIEVE/IPT= better for jigging
sf4500 34" vs bg4000 40"
medium sf6500 39" vs bg5000 47.5" all these have high ratio but BG +DIAMETER SPOOL
spinfisher better sealed and +drag....bg more fluid and silent. It depends on what fishing....
@@caranx89 i wasn't comparing. I was just saying i love the bg. Haven't had the penn sf yet
Thanks for the answer, but I have a feeling the play is more significant on Daiwa compared to Shimano.
Has anybody done a break down of the new Nasci fi for 2021? Why don,t you review pfueger reels
For fresh water, I have been fishing Diawa Lexa reels and really like them.
Wish you would have included a Kastking in the price range
Check out the shimano parts page... Goto shimano Australia's site (the USA parts page is broken). The Nasci 500 side plate seal fits the socorro
@@TackleAdvisors thank you so much
Hi mate. Great video. Have you looked at the Penn battle 3 yet
This really made me consider the reels I buy love this vid
