I recommend adding the reels' names on the table, sometimes it is hard to follow when you jump around reels ans point at them.

I got the Daiwa Back Bay LT 4000 a few weeks ago. Love the reel! Buttery smooth. I've slayed three big Redfish on it already and no flexing or hiccups battling the fish. I was wanting the Stradic FL but can't find one in stock. So went with this. Very happy with it and would highly recommend.

I agree with Ricardo's comment about having the name of the reel on the table so the viewer can follow better. On reels, for some time I've had a Shimano Stradic 3000 FI that has served me well. Only issue is it gets sand in the bail wire pivots and then it gets "grindy" until I take it apart and don't lose any of the miniscule parts, LOL.

Good stuff here. I picked up one of those Stradic FLs last spring after seeing one of your videos and its the smoothest spinning reel right out of the box from any manufacturer I have ever used and still is after a season of use in freshwater. My only complaint is the weight, due to the fact I have been mostly using the CI4+ and Fuego LTs for a while now. If the next gen CI4+ is anything like it, It will likely replace all my spinning reels. Thanks for the work you put in making these vids.

Been looking a bit at the liveliner Spinfisher as an option for fishing the kelp on day trips on the west coast. Mostly this would mean calico bass and fish similar sized. But, on these trips you can also run into yellowtails and bonito and the like. I'm split here on what size of reel would work better for this application- the 4500 or 6500. I'd be using it on a roughly 20-30 pound class rod. This would be my first Penn, used to mainly Shimano sizing- in the past a 4000 size Shimano worked fine for the calicos, was a little undergunned on small yellowtail.

We used a Shimano Soccoro 5000 SW which I found on sale on sale for just $67 bucks. It was in the surf for a year and it held up to striped bass up to 21 lbs, halibut to 14 lbs, A 27 lb white sea-bass, a 38 lb black sea-bass and a large number of snags on a reef we fish from shore. . The drag is no velvet smooth, the bail closes on casting from time to time, plus it has a few other deals but for $67 bucks hard to complain about the price. The full 139.00 asking price, then we might have a problem.. It was not a complete piece of crap, it caught some big fish and it still works with signs of some wear. We Upgraded to Penn Slammer III 5500's at 189.99 and these even had the upgraded heavier bail system vs the first generation of Penn slammer III and at no additional cost . 18 hard fished surf months later the two Penn Slammer III slammers bought have been everything promised . Only thing with Penn is that the reels are stiff the first week due to the grease packed but once worked in over 2 trips the reels stiffness disappears.
I fish for big surf species and these reels have got soaked / fully emerged by waves with no problems. there obviously a much different need that that of a angler who needs light weight for many repetitive casts where every ounce saves your arm and shoulder grieve. but for Drag power, a 5500 having 40 lbs worth, Dependability and easy maintenance wise the Penn Slammer III has done very well.

Would a 4000 black bay be good enough for surf fishing and for occasional halibut, rays, and leopard sharks? Or would it be better to get a 5000 Stradic fl with increased drag and line capacity? The Ballistic sounds really nice too but I care more about a metal frame and the smoothness than it being light.

I just added a Stradic 2500 HG FL to my fishing arsenal...Got several older Stradic FI reels that have held up well inshore kayak fishing in the Southern Maryland area of the Chesapeake Bay. 95% of my fishing is light spinning 1/8- 3/8 Oz lures and most fish I target are specked trout, white perch, striped bass, redfish and spanish mackerel. Reels have 10-12# braid...use 20# Trielene XT mono for leaders tied on with FG knot. For quick disconnects I use the Fastach clip by Mustad.

Honestly, though I've tried and liked the Stradic, that extra 15% weight kills my wrist (since my arm was previously injured). My opinion is that the Tatula LT is the best under $200. First, it's actually one that i could buy for under $200 and with tax, which is actually is a $200 budget, not $200+. Second, it's lightweight. Though I had the ganglion cyst removed, my arm isn't able to hold up as it used to. Third and lastly, man I like that 6:2:1 gear ratio. I fished my wife's older Shimano Sahara 2500 and I fell in love with that specific retrieve ratio. Just my two cents. Would really appreciate it to see what you think of my situation.

The bail was flipping while casting, the reverse was kicking in while I was fighting a fish, and even worse- the rigidity was falling apart. It did not last- the quality was not there. I have a Daiwa Ballistic LT 3000 on a 10' Savage gear Salmonoid 15-35g gramm rod that i use for smaller lures (10-30 gramm) when coastel or pier fishing and that is sooo smooth (the reel price is 300,-us$ here in Denmark). I also just got a (brand new old stock) Penn Slammer 460 on a 9' Savage Gear Salt 1DFR shore jigging 40-80 gramm rod (and that reel is only 100,-us$ new on sale). I use it for bigger lures (30-80 gramm) That Penn is a tank and i have no worries getting saltwater on it when boat fishing.

Have you ever done a video on how to clean your reel and rod after a saltwater fishing trip. I see so many videos online and never know which one to trust since they all seem to be different. Any advice on how to do it and what products to use? I’m most concerned about the reel cleansing as washing the rod seems very straight forward. Thanks again for any expert advice you can give a newbie

    • @samcliu
      @samcliu 4 роки тому

The way I do it is:
      1. Tighten your drag all the way down to reduce how much water gets in.
      2. Use light pressure water to rinse everything, don't put too much water on the actual reel body. *Warm water takes off more salt.* Don't be afraid to use extra pressure on the actual rod guides and your lures
      3. Let it all dry off. I like to put a fan in front of everything to help it dry faster. Loosen your reel's drag all the way, otherwise you're compressing the drag washers which is bad.
Optionally you can get a product called salt-away that helps salt come off. Salt corrodes by keeping water at the metal surface for a longer period of time on a microscopic level.

Btw I apply some oil to the line roller bearing on some regular cadence, maybe once a month. Adjust based on how much you fish.
One more thing I do only applies if you have multi-piece rods (e.g 2 piece rod). I get a small block of paraffin wax and rub it on the rod ferrule (where the rod pieces connect, the piece that sticks into the hollow end of the rod). This simultaneously lubricates and also tightens the connection between the rod pieces next time you put it together. I do this whenever i remember to, which is about every other trip. Ideally I think every trip would be good. You can get a huge block of paraffin wax from amazon for like $10-15.

FINALLY got an FL! Got one today here in Tampa. I'm pretty sure i got the last one available here in Florida haha. Can't find them anywhere at the moment. No where online or any store I've been to until today! Got the 4K and it's buttery smooth. However, my Daiwa Saltist Back Bay 4K is slightly smoother. I've dunked my my Back Bay multiple times now in the kayak inshore and it's still like new. Will see how this Stradic holds up to the saltwater over time. Tight lines and as always enjoy your videos.

@@NFiltr8RedHey I dont blame you. I own a slammer 4500 and a couple of shimano and daiwa LT reels around 4000 size and I do agree with you. The weight is important, especially if your casting. I mainly use the light reels for shore fishing. However I tend to use the slammer for slow jigging stationary from a boat so the weight dont really feel that bad for that use. I guess I really only wanted to know how he felt about the Slammer...cause I feel like its robust.

RikkiVideos , the Slammer doesn’t feel like it’s gonna break easily. You can toss it around on boats and in the rocks and it’s gonna stand up to punishment from the elements. Occasionally had some bearing problems with my CI4s. Waiting on the latest version of the CI4 which I am told will be released in August 2020. I was also told the new version of the CI4 will be renamed...no longer will be named the “CI4.” I am waiting to see if the new version of the current CI4 will incorporate all the features of the current Stradic FL.
