A lot of knot tying videos are difficult to see in detail but this was very clear and easy to follow.
Davidn93 I had that happen to me at first. Usually happened when I didn’t keep enough tension as I did the wraps. Make sure that after you make the wraps that you do a few simple overhand knots with the braid and cinch each one down against the wraps. Then grab the leader and the braid and tighten. I learned from the SaltStrong video. Watch that if you haven’t seen it.
I like the mono side of the knot. I usually use a double uni however the mono side of that often has a deformity especially tying on the boat. This uses a uni type knot for the braid and the mono knot is a lot quickler to tie. Thanks for the great background and lighting.
Definitely a strong knot if your leader is short, but a FG knot is more slim and will fly through the rings more easily. So for short leaders I will definitely try the GT, but for longer leaders I’ll stick to the FG.
I've used the FG Knot for years. Typically 65lbs braid to 50lbs mono for blues, stripers and pike and 50lbs braid to 20lbs mono most lures (except fast moving lures like frogs and buzz baits or heavy cover were I use straight braid). I've never had a FG Knot fail me. It's smooth going through the guides and tied properly is very durable. The GT Knot may be stronger, but the FG Knots diameter makes it my choice for my braid to mono/floro leader knot.
I sat down, got some lines and spent an hour learning to tie this knot with feeble fingers and poor eyesight. But I must say, the last 4 or 5 knots looked good, snugged up and feel super strong. I think I got it now and it looks like a great and versatile connection. Thanks!
I tried this knot and it works really well. In my testing on bass sized gear the floro carbon line would break every time before the knot would break. Sold! The knot goes through micro guides just fine.
Help a brother out please, I really want this knot to work. I'm using 8lb 832 and as a leader 10 lb Tatsu FL. Every time I finish the knot it breaks with very little effort. Any suggestions?
I had enough trouble with FG knot. This is so simple to use and rated very high for its strength. Thanks a lot for educating us. I'm also looking for the best knot for mono to fluoro. God Bless!
Worlds strongest knot. I’ll definitely learn this one. Went fishing today and used the knot from your last video. I love the fact that it didn’t make that “tink, tink, tink, “ sound going threw the guide eyes like you get when I use the uni to uni knot. If this one is the same I’ll love it to. Might get to try it Sunday, if this wind will die down, it’s terrible out there on open water. Thanks again for another informative video brother, be good and stay strong. # REACHTHEBEACH#
The black light makes a huge difference. I've been using a modified Uni, which won on knot wars a few years ago, but this one looks pretty easy to tie. Great job once again.
I guess I will venture to say this is the best knot tutorial I have yet to watch. Bravo. New subscriber, and I Thank you,Sir. Keep the fabulous footage tolling.
After some recent FG knot "failures" & loosing confidence in it while fishing for large gag grouper & red snappers I'll try this knot. Seems to make more sense as to why it will hold better & not slip.
Outstanding! I am relatively new to fishing and I heard about the FG knot. For the life of me, I cannot make this knot despite viewing many UA-cam videos showing how to tie it. I then came across this video. In just a few minutes and thanks to the clear, articulate way it is being explained, I was able to create the knot. The knot remains in tact despite my efforts to pull the leader away from the braid. Great job in explaining this. Thanks!
i agree the FG knot was damn complicated and by the looks of it not that great, so then i looked at the PR knot and i need to carry hardware (bobbin) and now the gt knot. I know what i will use.
Great video! I have a rod with micro guides and have had trouble with catching guides (even with FG knot.) That was the first combo to try this knot out. I tied the knot as you detailed steps. It passed through without problems, so I’m going to test it on the water!
Just tried tie the gt knot. It's pretty simple to do. I've been using the double uni knot for years and it's been holding up really well. I'll give the gt knot a try whenever I go out on the next tuna trip.
That was an excellent lesson. I really liked the data chart. I like my knots to be the strongest possible, the simpler the better. I tied it correctly on the first go. My search for braid to mono is over(hurrah). Thanks much.
Go to the actual source and look at the knot diagram. The knot in the video isn't remotely close to the knot that won the competition. The GT knot that won the competition starts with a bimini twist in the braid which isn't easy to tie. Then there's several additional steps once you get the figure 8. Basically this knot isn't very good as shown.
Best knot ever. I have literally broken rods before this knot fails. Landed 400+ pound sharks with this knot. Use it inshore and offshore. Thanks for the tutorial.
I have been using this knot since i saw this video. Love this knot.... very easy to tie and caught a 20 to 25lb bonnet shark on 10lb power pro and 20lb vanish fluorocarbon. Worked great... tested several times since using it and it has held every time. Thanks for the video.
Thanks a million Fish Gum. I tried to tie that FG knot, but holy crapis that thing a pain. This is so much easier, and I haven't had a knot failure this entire fishing season. Awesome video, and you explained it so well, that even an idiot like me can do it with no issues!
Thanks for sharing this knot. I think most people use the FG knot because it's small and goes through the guides better on our rods. As a Bass fisherman, that's why I use the FG.
Hey Tony! Another great video! I have to say when I saw the list of knots I was a little shocked the knot I’ve used for years was as low down as it was. I’ll have to employ this one next time I make it out to the beach. God bless my friend!
I prefer an FG for that reason too. I used to use this knot when casting inshore on spinning gear. Wind knots were definitely more common as compared to when I switched to a FG.
Yes. The reason for the FG knot is for ease of casting + strength. If you have the world strongest knot but cant cast it well. It defeat the purpose of fishing when 90% of fishing needs some form of casting.
This is correct for heavier line weight however, for lower line weight as most inshore anglers use, this knot the GT was not in the top 26 or it was not tested per the IGFA.
Well I appreciated this video and all the comments below in regards to how this compares to other knots especially the FG. Having just gotten back into fishing after a 35 year hiatus, the skills are rusty, the hands are much older, arthritic and shake, the eyes can't focus too well at close distances, etc. And God help me when it's low light out. I've been tying my mono leader to braided line (new invention to fishing for me) with the Yucatan knot. Never had it break yet but this knot is easier to tie for me and I will put it in the mental toolbox. Never been able to tie the FG!
I don't have a need for a stronger knot, I've never had a issue with a line to line knot failing and I've used a few. I think the need is for the thinnest knot for level lines and micro guides.
@@2musiclover534 The thinnest I use is the FG knot. No issues with strength and I've tested it with 150lb sharks that weren't targeted! But you should check it after every trip. I think some started to loosen on me at the tied off end after a few trips. I've been lucky, always found the issue at home when I'm putting on a fresh top shot, not on a trip. I'm experimenting with leaving the mono tag end about 1/16th" long and a tiny bit of super glue on that end of the braid. Just a bitty bit of glue at the end, don't want to effect the braid digging into the mono.
@@joeshmoe7789 Thank you for such as quick reply Joe. I'm going to learn the FG knot then...:) My primary rod has size 3 fuji guides, the tiniest guide by fuji so a slim knot is helpful. Thanks!
isn't the second knot the braid just a uni? i tie double uni as my standard 10# braid to 10# flouro and failure is always the flouro side below knot. always get the whole knot back but no leader so would think this knot would have similar performance. fg to much of pain on 10# flouro if not impossible.
Never had any issues with a double unit. Caught some pretty big sharts on them too including a 7' bull last week(wasn't targeting it). Proper drag setting and knowing how to to handle a big fish will work every time over any of these knots. However I may try this some time.
I’m an engineer. We know our tensile strengths but not all of us are expert fishermen. We tend to over complicate things. Use the knot you’re best at tying and serves your purpose.
I have found the best knot is the one you can remember. Alberto knot works for me right now. FG is a great knot when it’s tied right. I couldn’t get it right even while watching the video so it ain’t happening while on the water. This knot with smaller diameter line works great as a secondary knot mainly because it’s easy to remember. Just fish!
So I’ve read all the comments on this but never seen anyone ask if this works with PE8 braid (minimum 100lb break) and 200lb leaderline? It would seem that the knot it makes would be huge and not go through guides as easy as an FG?? Unless someone tested it out and can reply?? I would hate to lose an expensive lure
Yes sir, strength does not necessarily mean this knot goes through the guides easier. Others have commented that they will not use this knot because it will be bulky unlike the FG knot. So in your case you need to stick with the FG knot. There are limitations to every knot and situations where you would not use one knot over another. You have rightly identified a limitation of the GT knot. Thanks for asking the question it’s a huge help to me and others.
Not sure what size rod you are using but with that breaking strength line, you should have a pretty stout rod to support it. Alberto is the easiest to go through guides IMO.
wow, this is strongest...i did practice tie GT knot for flippin jig for heavy cover.Man,This is awesome catch big bass. I didn't lost it.Thanks for teaching best knot.
Context is everything, and in the interest of context it’s important to know that Sport Fishing Magazine had two categories: one for light line and one for heavy line. In the light line category, the Bobbin Knot came out on top, followed but an improved FG Knot and a regular FG knot. The GT Knot only won in the heavy line category. It’s also really important to know that this was a *reader knot challenge*, where actual knots submitted by readers were tested *once*. That’s hardly scientific because each knot test is a one-off instead of a repeat test that averages the results. I appreciate this video because it’s well done and expanding everybody’s horizons. I feel that the context above is very important, especially if you’re a bass fisherman ready to abandon your finely honed FG-tying skills (usually on lighter line) based on watching this video alone.
@@zoidlrrr4633 I think the FG knot it NOT suited for larger diameter mono/flouro leaders. Simply because there is no mechanical connection at the mono side. Plus its a pain to tie. I'd rather tie an Alberto, especially on a pitching deck.
I would tie this knot when I didn’t know what I was doing. It would catch on eyelets, break on decent fish, work it’s way loose over the day. FG all the way. Super strong, neat and takes 40sec to tie
Man you bring up a great point, the FG knot is the smoothest through the guides, and I need to learn to tie it faster. I’ve steered clear of he FG knot because it takes time to tie. If you can tie it in 40 seconds then with repetition maybe I can too!
@@FishGum There are many ways to tie an FG. Having tried a lot of them, I highly recommend this one: ua-cam.com/video/52uWL43hUbw/v-deo.html for two reasons: 1. Once you train your fingers to behave that way, it's very fast to tie. 2. The technique works regardless of the stiffness of the leader. You can tie this with 4lb just as easily as 150lb.
been using this one for decades ive always called it the shockleader knot for tying on 70lb greased weezel to my 15 mainline for beach casting! only just recently started using it instead of the fg knot for drop shotting and lrf uses
Hey Tony another great knot video. I will have to tie it up and see if it’s small enough for casting through the guides. Getting settled in, I haven’t been fishing since we got back here. I use a long leader I may have to stick with the FG, if a short leader I may go to the GT.
I think What most people dont understand about the fg is that it’s the best knot ,not the strongest ..The fg comes through the guides better allowing for pin point casts or skips with no interference..
Why do you reel your line so far back anyway a typical leader is about what 15 -18 inches you shouldn’t be worried about the knot anyhow don’t you cast with at least a couple feet of slack ?
I use a long leader and successfully land large snook, tarpon, grouper, bull reds, shark, etc using an FG knot with a Rizzuto finish for the past 5+ years. The benefits to the FG is it’s slimmer profile and casting/level wind abilities when using a long leader. But this does look like a good knot if leader length is short.
its a nice test but they actually dont have the strongest form of FG on there, they all use the half hitch finish and if an FG fails its either because its not tied properly and the mono slips or it brakes at the hitches, they haven't tested an FG with a rizzuto finish, which is stronger then a FG with a half hitch finish. not saying its going to beat the GT knot for strength but its slimmer and casts better and is better then the standard FG knot
I completely agree with you. 2 years ago I started adding Rizzuto finish to my FG’s and boy it is far superior vs 4-5 half hitches. Hasn’t failed on Goliath grouper, tarpon, amberjacks, etc. Plus I tend to use a longer leader and the knot in video is not designed to reel or cast through rod guides. So yes, use the knot in video if leader length is short enough that allows you to cast effectively...but not ideal when a long leader is needed.
I use one similar and its strong and fast to tie. U start with the figure 8 run the braid in and out of the 8 then wrap the braid 6 to 9 times uo the leader then 6 to 9 times back on that wrap towards the 8 then tuck the tag in the loop in the braid b4 the figue 8, lubricate and tighten both knots, i love this knot as its practical for what i use it for
As already outlined below, this is a very similar knot and style to back-to-back/double uni. The only issue I have with this, same as the back-to-back uni which i use 100% of the time is if you have too big a distance between knots the braid can cut/bite into the mono knot as you bring the knots together. So i try and keep the distance as short as possible to stop that from happening. I will say i'm going to learn this knot and use it and see how it goes. I've never had an issue with back-to-back uni, it's simple easy and quick to tie. This GT knot is as well.
The claim of the FG knot isn’t that it’s the strongest knot. It’s the strongest knot for the diameter. The FG has never failed my fishing and it travels through guides well, doesn’t catch on the reel. It’s a quality, trustworthy knot that is as slim as you can get. 👍🏼
Sat with and old spool of 50 pound braid and 20 mono watching the football game, tied this knot about 50 plus times. I add a few tweaks super easy and it’s pretty hard to screw it up with out a doubt my new go to
Great knot to tie real fast on the water. It is strong however I feel the double uni is stronger. With the double uni I can just do more wraps to make it stronger. Can I go more wraps on the mono line to make this knot stronger?
Looks like a great knot. I'll try it. I usually use a Palomar, trilene and a rapala knot. They all work great. I've rarely ever had a knot break in 60 years of fishing. Line usually breaks from a nick or fray
Thanks for your videos. I think they've helped me out. Went down to the coast and caught a bunch of pampano, and others this last weekend. Ready to.give it a shot again I'm a month
O don't need the strongest knot, I need a knot that's strong and would also fly though the guides with less resistance. Everything has an I tended purpose, the fg know was not created just to be brute, but also stream line, thanks for the info though.
I think the GT is known as the strongest. It has also been known to knock guide inserts out, which is why people use the FG. For people fishing saltwater it usually isn’t an issue, but for bass fishermen fishing with rods that have micro guides the GT causes problems.
On the second part of the knot before you make wraps with the braided line around the mono line - WHY are you making the loop with both lines sitting together at this point when at the and you just need a loop created with the braided line to make those 6 wraps ?? I don't get it ! Please explain ! Thanks....
Got taught this knot years ago from "Bushy" from Rex Hunt fishing. He called it a slim beauty. Great knot for lighter lines but gets caught up when casting heavier line.
I've set up my own tests on these same knots and used different brands and thicknesses of both mono and braid lines.

I’m still gonna use the fg knot. Nothing beats how slim it is, it slips right threw the guides with no issues
You’re 💯 right about the slim knot that the FG is
I've used the FG Knot for years.
@@FishGum Thanks for This video!!! I feel prepared now.. I love that small Knot..
This knot is a slim as the fg and is easier to tie. Goes through all the guides with ease.
I sat down, got some lines and spent an hour learning to tie this knot with feeble fingers and poor eyesight. But I must say, the last 4 or 5 knots looked good, snugged up and feel super strong. I think I got it now and it looks like a great and versatile connection. Thanks!
Thanks for the feedback!
Man that blue light is a great idea. It makes the line pop
I tried this knot and it works really well. In my testing on bass sized gear the floro carbon line would break every time before the knot would break. Sold! The knot goes through micro guides just fine.
Thanks for the feedback!
The knot hasn't ever failed for me, thanks for posting!
Help a brother out please, I really want this knot to work.
I'm using 8lb 832 and as a leader 10 lb Tatsu FL. Every time I finish the knot it breaks with very little effort.
Any suggestions?
@@Shiloh3498 do you lubricate it? It's mandatory
Can't say as I like the right angled tags !
I had enough trouble with FG knot. This is so simple to use and rated very high for its strength. Thanks a lot for educating us. I'm also looking for the best knot for mono to fluoro. God Bless!
Your welcome my friend
This is how you teach someone how to tie a knot, even me with my, all the gear no idea found it so easy to follow, nice one, subscribed
Always have used the double uni but always willing to learn more. This video is excellent! Going to enjoy tying this until it’s 2nd nature. Thank you
Worlds strongest knot.
Thank you! I hope it works well for you!
The black light makes a huge difference. I've been using a modified Uni, which won on knot wars a few years ago, but this one looks pretty easy to tie. Great job once again.
Thanks I’ll need to try the modified Uni. If it’s simple I’m game.
I made a mistake in the knot I use. It's a modified Albright. It won against the uni-uni.
I guess I will venture to say this is the best knot tutorial I have yet to watch. Bravo. New subscriber, and I Thank you,Sir. Keep the fabulous footage tolling.
This was a new one for me. I tried it and it is strong. I still like the double uni because it’s so much easier. Great video.
Thanks my friend! The double uni does have a better slimmer profile.
Thanks for this tutorial. I've been using this knot for a year now and have had no problems.
Finally a tutorial using fishing line that you can actually see and follow. Great video!!
Thanks so much! I feel like I stumbled across a better way to teach knots with that UV flashlight!
Thanks!
Thanks Ajoe!
i agree the FG knot was damn complicated and by the looks of it not that great, so then i looked at the PR knot and i need to carry hardware (bobbin) and now the gt knot.
Go get em!
Really easy to follow and to remember, great tutorial, I'm now safe in the knowledge that I have the strongest knot possible for my leaders 🙂🙂😎👌
Best knot ever. I have literally broken rods before this knot fails. Landed 400+ pound sharks with this knot. Use it inshore and offshore. Thanks for the tutorial.
Joke?
Next time I restring a rod with braid this will be my Mono Backing connection knot. Thanks for the video!!!
Your welcome! That’s a great application
I have been using this knot since i saw this video. Love this knot.... very easy to tie and caught a 20 to 25lb bonnet shark on 10lb power pro and 20lb vanish fluorocarbon. Worked great... tested several times since using it and it has held every time.
Thanks for the video.
I am so glad it has worked and not failed you or caused you to lose a big fish!
@@FishGum este nudo es mas fuerte que el FG ? Porque yo llevo años usando el fg y es muy bueno he sacado peces muy grandes
Think I may have my new favorite knot. Thanks brother. Very informative instruction.
Thanks Cliff!
been usin this knot for a year and salt fishing only, Never disapointed👍👍👍
It’s pretty versatile!
Thanks
I've been trying to find the right knot, this is the one. It was easy and it didn't slip off. Using this knot from now on. Good shit, thanks.
Thanks
Thanks a million Fish Gum. I tried to tie that FG knot, but holy crapis that thing a pain. This is so much easier, and I haven't had a knot failure this entire fishing season. Awesome video, and you explained it so well, that even an idiot like me can do it with no issues!
Thanks Scott! I am glad to help!
Thanks for sharing this knot. I think most people use the FG knot because it's small and goes through the guides better on our rods. As a Bass fisherman, that's why I use the FG.
I need to tie it more!
I would like to say you do a great job of teaching way better than most.
Thanks
Nice! Will have to try it out. Like the lighting trick to see the line.
I thought that would help! I get tired of see people tie these knots to fake line! Let’s see the real stuff!
omg ...simple and clear...it will be my go-to knot...73 yrs old and clumsy..i can tie this knot
Thanks my friend!
I wished I would've learned this a couple years ago. Simple, easy and very strong...Thank you sir!!!
Your welcome!
Hey Tony! Another great video! I have to say when I saw the list of knots I was a little shocked the knot I’ve used for years was as low down as it was. I’ll have to employ this one next time I make it out to the beach. God bless my friend!
My friend thanks so much!!!
David Stough sß
Yes ,stronger than an fg. At the same time twice the diameter, if the leader knot is going through a level wind and guides I prefer an fg knot
Thanks for the comment! I really need to try the FG knot! I never have. Your comment makes me want to.
Jim Callaham 💯
Great knot but not ideal for casting... to big will destroy your rod...
Tried this knot this summer deep worming & rigging.
Never failed. Be trying this knot 4 other applications this fall
Thanks for the feedback!
This is correct for heavier line weight however, for lower line weight as most inshore anglers use, this knot the GT was not in the top 26 or it was not tested per the IGFA.
That’s what I wondered. Say 10 or 15 braid with 8 or 6 floro
Strongest knot...says science.
Thank you for the background and lighting.
There ya go!
Thank you for actually making this video showing exactly how to do it instead of just doing it fast.
Thank you!
It took me a few tries but I finally got it going and something I had to repeat with my other poles so it was definitely well worth the time.
I don't have a need for a stronger knot, I've never had a issue with a line to line knot failing and I've used a few. I think the need is for the thinnest knot for level lines and micro guides.
Agreed!
Great knot thanks!
Agree. Which line to line knot is the thinnest or lowest profile? Thanks
Thanks!
Truly the strongest, simplest to tie know i've tried so far! Thanks
isn't the second knot the braid just a uni?
i tie double uni as my standard 10# braid to 10# flouro and failure is always the flouro side below knot. always get the whole knot back but no leader so would think this knot would have similar performance.
fg to much of pain on 10# flouro if not impossible.
Yes
Never had any issues with a double unit. Caught some pretty big sharts on them too including a 7' bull last week(wasn't targeting it). Proper drag setting and knowing how to to handle a big fish will work every time over any of these knots. However I may try this some time.
I’m an engineer. We know our tensile strengths but not all of us are expert fishermen. We tend to over complicate things. Use the knot you’re best at tying and serves your purpose.
Simple enough man!
Just fish!
Amen Ron!
@@FishGum Thank you so much for the reply! Have a great time fishing!!
Thanks
Great advice for sure on this one! Thanks for adding value!
@@zoidlrrr4633 I think the FG knot it NOT suited for larger diameter mono/flouro leaders. Simply because there is no mechanical connection at the mono side. Plus its a pain to tie. I'd rather tie an Alberto, especially on a pitching deck.
You are by far the best person that explains this the best
Thanks
Thanks so much!
Fish Gum you don’t have to do 420 lol wraps. You will find what works best for you
@@FishGum There are many ways to tie an FG.
That blue line was great to see excellent choice. Thank you very easy to understand.
Looks like i found my new leader knot. Thanks for the great tutorial .
Your welcome!
Can’t beat the Paloma knot going to swivels or clips but this great for tying backer line to braid... great explanation
been using this one for decades ive always called it the shockleader knot for tying on 70lb greased weezel to my 15 mainline for beach casting! only just recently started using it instead of the fg knot for drop shotting and lrf uses
Thanks for the additional comment about this knot. I am learning more stuff about it everyday!
PR for me. Much thinner and never failed me.
Hey Tony another great knot video. I will have to tie it up and see if it’s small enough for casting through the guides. Getting settled in, I haven’t been fishing since we got back here. I use a long leader I may have to stick with the FG, if a short leader I may go to the GT.
Nice way to apply both the FG knot and GT knot! Welcome home Tom!
I think What most people dont understand about the fg is that it’s the best knot ,not the strongest ..The fg comes through the guides better allowing for pin point casts or skips with no interference..
You are correct!
Why do you reel your line so far back anyway a typical leader is about what 15 -18 inches you shouldn’t be worried about the knot anyhow don’t you cast with at least a couple feet of slack ?
@@gerryhazelton9569 the knot gos through the guides no problem..where you been that’s what the entire world is doing especially all the bass pros .
@@abgr5747 I understand that dude what I said was why are you reeling that knot thru the guides in the first place 👍
@@gerryhazelton9569 watch no one will like your comment cause you know nothing..Ask KVD or Jacob wheeler why they do it .
Great analysis here! This knot would not go smoothly through guides, the FG knots wins that!
its a nice test but they actually dont have the strongest form of FG on there, they all use the half hitch finish and if an FG fails its either because its not tied properly and the mono slips or it brakes at the hitches, they haven't tested an FG with a rizzuto finish, which is stronger then a FG with a half hitch finish.
not saying its going to beat the GT knot for strength but its slimmer and casts better and is better then the standard FG knot
Thanks saved me some typing
I use one similar and its strong and fast to tie. U start with the figure 8 run the braid in and out of the 8 then wrap the braid 6 to 9 times uo the leader then 6 to 9 times back on that wrap towards the 8 then tuck the tag in the loop in the braid b4 the figue 8, lubricate and tighten both knots, i love this knot as its practical for what i use it for
It’s easy and it’s strong!
Awesome knot mate! Will have to give it a try, is the second part (braid knot) essentially a single uniknot pulled into the figure eight mono knot?
Yes you are right!
Improve your back to back uni by doubling the braid , otherwise tie the same
The claim of the FG knot isn’t that it’s the strongest knot. It’s the strongest knot for the diameter.
The FG has never failed my fishing and it travels through guides well, doesn’t catch on the reel. It’s a quality, trustworthy knot that is as slim as you can get. 👍🏼
I will try the FG knot. I have never tied it before.
Fish Gum no worries mate. Everyone has their preference.
This is how I tie the FG
ua-cam.com/video/9ULBdop5C_g/v-deo.html
Yep even i was fished for grouper in shore between the rock piles,i have been swing like 25lb grouper from high bridge,fg havent break even 1
Yes, IMO, the FG knot is the best knot.
Sat with and old spool of 50 pound braid and 20 mono watching the football game, tied this knot about 50 plus times. I add a few tweaks super easy and it’s pretty hard to screw it up with out a doubt my new go to
Glad it worked out so well!

Excellent tutorial! Very well explained, camera angle just perfect, and narration was great!!!
Thank you !!!
great knot..easy and strong..just caught a monster striper on this knot thanks for the share GT is awesome and easy.. thank you
Your welcome!
Great idea using the blacklight! Great info!!
It really helps make the knot easy to see
Great knot to tie real fast on the water. It is strong however I feel the double uni is stronger. With the double uni I can just do more wraps to make it stronger. Can I go more wraps on the mono line to make this knot stronger?
It’s worth a try.
This is the best demonstration of this knot on the internet! 👌
Thanks so much!
Great knot I have been a double uni guy for awhile, but now it GT all the way. Legit video!
Thanks so much!
seems simple, ill give it a try next time! thanks for the video i liked the black light highlighting the line, great idea
Looks like a great knot. I'll try it. I usually use a Palomar, trilene and a rapala knot. They all work great. I've rarely ever had a knot break in 60 years of fishing. Line usually breaks from a nick or fray
I will have to give this GT Knot a try, Thanks.
Finally someone clearly taught me how to tie this knot
Awesome braid to mono knot. I have never used this one but now I have another one for the arsenal!! Thanks Tony!
The more the merrier Ed!
Island Life Fishing I tried it it failed I'm using Power Pro super slick which is a very hard braid to tie for it is slick I use the Double Uni knot
Thanks for your videos. I think they've helped me out. Went down to the coast and caught a bunch of pampano, and others this last weekend. Ready to.give it a shot again I'm a month
Man an awesome fish to catch is Pompano! I’m glad you got on them like that!
Thank you for showing me how to tie this knot.
Your welcome!
On the second part of the knot before you make wraps with the braided line around the mono line - WHY are you making the loop with both lines sitting together at this point when at the and you just need a loop created with the braided line to make those 6 wraps ?? I don't get it !
Please explain !
Thanks....
Ben I thought I was following the steps for the GT knot. I’ll go back and look at what you caught me doing watching my vid. Thanks Ben
Same question from me?
@@FishGum same question from me?
Good question its a uni knot 6 wraps lock on 8🤔
Got taught this knot years ago from "Bushy" from Rex Hunt fishing. He called it a slim beauty. Great knot for lighter lines but gets caught up when casting heavier line.
Yes! It may be strong but not great through the guides!
This is NOT the Slimbeauty knot.
I've used nothing but the SB for decades, and it's never failed.
I'll have to try that for the next setup.
Amazing video quality with the very well lit line. Knots aside, that is the best tutorial ever visually.
