I purchased a Penn Pursuit 2 spinning combo. It's a 6000 size reel and a 7 ft MH rod and it works fantastic for fishing from a pier or shore since I don't have a boat. Comes in at $69.99! Would definitely recommend this to anyone who is bound to land based fishing
jeff i jetty fish in central florida(sebastian inlet) and i just recently purchased boots with tungsten studs on the bottom. I would highly recommend them. you don't slip on moss or wet rocks and it takes a much bigger wave to knock you off your feet.
2020... my tsunami shields bought 3 years ago, (right after they came out), they have been dunked, dragged through the sand, and pretty well abused and really have gotten smoother with age. Only maintenance is fresh water rinse after each trip.
Hey Jeff. Good video and thanks for sharing. Daiwa Ballistic EX 4000H: factory knob is a dual ball bearing unit. Pop cap off to gain access to knob screw. Mod suggestions: Votex 39MM knob, Smooth Drag carbontex drag washers. nite and day difference in drag performance. Reel servicing: CorrosionX grease on gears, oil on bearings, Ferrotec APGL11 for mag unit above the AR clutch (Daiwa will not sell magoil, rumor is that Daiwa will start selling later in the year) Sealed Reels: Gosa is my go to: twin drag, same main gear and sealing of the Stella SW. VSX: dunking day in day out, this is a good option. If your not, Gosa and Spheros are options to consider. VSVR: line lay on both X and VR are frankly subpar, especially considering the price point. Sold my X and returned the VR due to said poor line lay. Non Sealed Performance Bargain: Daiwa BG. Load up with CorrosionX grease. Mods: purchase the factory rubber seals for Daiwa Saltist to seal handle and handle cap on the BG. Main gear is cast zinc, but it’s big and tolerance to pinion is very good as reference is many reviews and tear downs. Tight lines.
Took my brand new Battle II 5000 for a spin yesterday for the very first time and I hooked a 20lb yellowtail using a Ugly Stik X2 (medium hard) rod ua-cam.com/users/postUgkxM68VkfsQhHaabDce1IwOCXuvumcpbZ_k . This combo was recommended on some website and it did not disappoint me. The reel is smooth, the drag click is pretty cool cause i think it adds to the excitement of fighting the fish, personally the drag is my favorite part. I use braid and 300 yards will fill the entire spool. This combo is my main setup from now on although I have to disclose I am new to fishing.
Very informative video on all the spinning reels. I am actually in the market of purchasing a spinning reel to throw lures at the jetties and you had a couple of the reels I have been looking at. Now the Tarpon can try and spool you on that 10000 Saragosa. Another cool video idea would be if you went over the rods you paired with the reels.
I exclusively surf fish South Texas and have been through pretty much fished most of the reels except the Daiwa Saltiga. When I say surf fish, I mean I either stand on the bars taking waves while fishing or walking out long rods through the surf for sharks and bringing them back to the beach to sit in rod holders. So they are exposed to extreme salt and sand. The BG lasted 2 days in the surf before needing to be serviced. The only ones I will use now are: Quantum Cabo, Shimano Stella, Shimano Saragosa, Shimano Spheros, Penn Slammer III, and Okuma Makaira. The Saragosa's at their price point are buttery smooth and have excellent sealing. Tried a Van Staahl but it was way to tiring for me to reel all day. I would imagine a Penn Torque would be fine as well.
I have the Saragosa 10000 and Daiwa BG 8000 and I have to say I love my saragosa but the new BG is an absolute beast for $95 dollars. In my honest opinion the BG is ALMOST smooth as the Saragosa but I’ll see how long that lasts because it’s not sealed. Both reels are used for shark and jetty/pier fishing.
Love your channel, thresher's, and drew's. After watching the videos, it inspired me to purchase a jetty rig. Looks like yall have so much fun out there. Bought a slammer 3 5500 and a penn carnage 9 foot medium rod. Cant wait to get it in the water. Thanks for videos and keep them coming
Texas Redfish Hunter my uncle has one that he’s beat the shit out me an him fish Shit load surf jetty’s ,beach, backbays kayaks his is still running but the spool wobbles a bit prob from shit losining up cause he’s had it so long
I have 2 and I take good care of my gear. One totally failed and the AR clutch failed in the second. Won't evr buy 1 again. The ssvi is worth the extra money if you want a heavy reel.
SHIMANO NASCI 4000 OR DAIWA BG 4000 EXCELLENT REEL'S . Use , rinse , wipe , repeat ! I have a few of each..dunked , knocked around, 100s of fish..no one issue .
EPK Audio Files Show nasci sucks for big fish I burnt out the drag in mine 2 times then it corroded up after flounder fishing and I make sure to rinse everything
One reel you might look into is the Shimano Socorro SW, I have the 5000 model and it cost a little over 100 dollars. I have used it for the last 3 seasons out here in Cali. Very nice reel and very durable. I commercial fish off the shore and also used it off the rocks for rock fish. Just might be one you might be looking for, before this Shimano I fished with a 5000 Penn Spinfisher also a great reel but I find it to be a little too heavy for when I do a lot of casting.
I own a Penn slammer 111's and chase white seabass with them. Your probably not familiar with the species however they are scaled rockets and require serious reel speed, drag and power. The higher reel speed does not sacrifice power so not sure what your thinking on that? Slammer 111's also come with an additional soft grip which some find very useful and it comes with no extra charge, nice freebie from Penn. Slammer 111's can get wet all day and they stay find everything is IP6 seal rated. Best $200 reel on the market by leaps and bounds. Save the Stella for serious angling like Tuna on spinning gear and Van Stahls are really nice if you walk the beach and want a great reel that does not cause your forearm to go popeye from excess weight.
Finally, I see someone mentions he hats the T-handle knob. I thought I am the only that hate that damn knob. It actually hurts my fingers as I pull big fish. I really love daiwa reel especially their saltist and bg, but those T-handle knob just ruin my interest. Sure, you can replace them with the after market, but why can't Daiwa just put power-handle knob on these reels.
I have three Slammer III reels; 4500, 6500 and a 8500HS. Great reels and I've never had any issues with them whatsoever. Always rinse them with fresh water and keep them lubed and should last a long while if not a lifetime...
I have a good size Saltiga which has worked well and been abused surf fishing. The one you may look at sometime is the Okuma 8K at $99. I'm just starting to use one and it gets good reviews.
I saw you & Thresher working lemon rigs - It'd be great to see the how to on that. You mentioned wind knots earlier, and I saw another video (If I remembered I'd make sure he had proper credit) The guy said if you can - carry a stick of lip balm, and put a little bit on the knot before it gets cinched, and it will slide out. (I'm still a little bit more of a 'figure out how to undo it' type instead of the brute force method.)
Definitely more informational videos. I would be very interested in a more in-depth video of your setups. Such as what rods you pair your reels with and why. What lb line you spool up with, brand, do you use topshot, how much, and why. And what presentations you use each setup for. This kind of video/videos would be very welcome if it’s not a huge pain to make.
I've heard good things about the Tsunami reel. The higher end reels are more for offshore fishing,I wouldn't use a $750 reel for jetty fishing. You can get a decent jetty combo for $200-$300 just keep the preventive maintenance up on it.
The spheros 5k and 6k are the same reel bigger spool. I have the 5k and the 6k spools 5k with 40 pound braid 6k with 50 . Can change them out in less than a minute. Pulled in 100 pound tarpon and lots of snook. See tarpon rolling throw on my 6k spool.
I have two bgs I ruined the grease in both of them if you get one pack it with grease the factory grease is thin I dunked both in salt but there both still working if u want something sealed get a penn slammer 3 the bgs aren’t salt proof
Gonna do the Colorado and matagorda next week, I’ll be launching my bait with my Splash Drone 3 I’m getting to old for the kayak and surf, sharks are the target.
Are you spin fishers and daiwa reels very often I have a couple of stelas 4 Z bass 5 daiwa b g's of different Different sizes And they all perform excellently. I actually lost a BG overboard for 2 days went diving the 3rd day and found it it had no water inside of it
Later this month im taking the leap and getting my self new gear. All my freshwater stuff is at my folks lake house in Houston. Any pointers on brands to get. I my self like expensive stuff. But if it works it works.

The problem with the high end reels once you reel them in now with your lower end reel you can feel the imperfections that you couldn't before you tried the high end reels, so my advice unless you plan on dropping some serious loot on a reel don't even try them
Scoob from Tackle Advisors knows his shit. Him and Alan Hawk know EVERYTHING about spinning reels. I've seen spinfisher reels fail after very short amounts of time.
Someone told me not to blast the reels off after using in salt water because even if the real is sealed the water pressure can blast some salt and sand into the gears
Hey Jeff great vid I have the Penn battle 2 4000 solid reel. I wanted to go with a bigger reel for fishing on the beach but don't know what to exactly go for. Do you think the Penn senator 4/0 113h will suffice?? I will be paddling out the line so castability isn't that big of a deal
What would ur opinion be on a penn conflict 6000 and would be ideal for surf or jetties??? What feed back can u give one that one... thnx & fish on!...
I've just used the same reels (spheros and ballistic) for surf fishing and they worked fine. Also a couple shark reels. Once I get more surf fishing experience I might attempt that video
Great video but.......a bad line roller CAN affect your ability to catch a fish since due to its roughness and jerkiness it is always intermittenly creating erratic friction as you are trying to fight and reel that fish in.
Are people fishing under water now? I feel they are over engineering for edge cases. How much do you drop your reel in the water? How often do you fish in the rain for a long time. I would like to see more emphasis on building a quality reel that looks good, feels good and lasts a long long time.
Yea it's called skishing. If you surf fish alot you know that the wind blows foam and spray that's loaded with sand all over you and your gear. A reel with little sealing will fail in couple years. To have a reel you don't have to worry about in the suds is worth alot. Especially if you have had reels fail on a blitz.

No man that reel isnt sealed. Not good for beach or jetty.
@@miamiwax5504 sealed means almost nothing if pm's are not taken care of. Trust me you have to clean all reels.
@@miamiwax5504if you clean it it’ll last for a long time. Especially for 69$

Thats the east coast🤣
@@shawnperico7221 um doesn't green moss grow everywhere or am I mining something?
That wipeout was crazy, I use an old pair of metal spike golf shoes to jetty fish. It helps a lot on the green carpet.

thats a nice combo!
I got the same reel on a 10 ft it’s a freaking winch! Pulled out some giants at the jettys
Penn Spinfisher is the best one for the money , I love this and it’s get the job done very strong body that isn’t flex when we reeling the big one
Sir be careful. Safety first and God bless. Thanks for giving us such.wonderful information.

Nice thumbnail this is a awesome video very informative Thx for the time you guys put in this video
Great video on reels! Now do one on rods please?
I use my penn fierce 6000 penn battle 5000 and sometimes my pursuit when I wanna just mess around and don’t really care to destroy a reel
I am so glad I brought my van staal vr200 and I ❤️ it
Just got the 6000 Sarragossa
Well I was hoping to see my new Shimano baitrunner 8000d on here. I freaking love that reel.
BTW the baitrunner comes with an adjustment system for the line lay. " Little different size washers"
I too was hoping for my zebco 808 to be shown on here.
When are you and coop going to make y’all’s own brand so I can buy it? Keep it up bro, great content.
Lol of work. They may rebrand a reel. Doubt they will produce from spec.

Where is the Accurate Twin Spin? Would like to have seen that one included.

Would you consider doing a video on the TICA TALISMAN TG SERIES reel?
I like the Penn Spinfisher V and Slammer3 myself
Great video! Would you be up to making one on rods for the jetties?
You wont catch me paying more than 300 for a spining reel lol
Good for you and you can get a good quality reel for less than that.
Average Joe if you have the money go for it imo
probably cause u don't have 300 dollars to spend
chill it was a joke haahahh
SarsOffical if you buy a thousand dollar spinning reel it won’t last as long as buying a $300 reel and then replacing it when it gets worn out
What about Fin nor?? They are good reels also tanks
Gonna do the Colorado and matagorda next week, I’ll be launching my bait with my Splash Drone 3
I’m getting to old for the kayak and surf, sharks are the target.
Am saving up to get Twin Power and a Stella both 14000
Thanks , You were very informative ,Appreciate Your input .
you should make a rod video for yeti fishing
Are you spin fishers and daiwa reels very often I have a couple of stelas 4 Z bass 5 daiwa b g's of different Different sizes And they all perform excellently. I actually lost a BG overboard for 2 days went diving the 3rd day and found it it had no water inside of it
Try the quantum Boca and cabo series they're some great reals
Which reel you recommend for slow jigging? Penn slammer or saltist?
Later this month im taking the leap and getting my self new gear. All my freshwater stuff is at my folks lake house in Houston. Any pointers on brands to get. I my self like expensive stuff. But if it works it works.
What’re you gonna be using it for?
Great information.... Leaning towards Penn battle ll. Want two set ups. Jetty, surf. 6000 size for both.
If have other suggestions plz do so

How's it going my fellow Angler I appreciate the videos and the fishing wisdom that you bring to Anglers through UA-cam I have a question for you I am coming to Corpus for spring break and I was thinking of going to the packery channel on the South Side Beach is that a great place to set up my fishing lights and a campsite with my travel trailer thanks
yeah that's a good place I see trailers on either side of that jetty on weekends.
Jeff Bonham thanks my fellow angler
Are there any sealed conventional reels
Try the diawa BG awesome reel
Whats your oldest spinning reel thats still useable. Bet its under 10 years?
Great info , keep'em coming !!
The spheros you need to put spacer under your spool I guess they give it in your box just add it and you would be ok
The problem with the high end reels once you reel them in now with your lower end reel you can feel the imperfections that you couldn't before you tried the high end reels, so my advice unless you plan on dropping some serious loot on a reel don't even try them
Very informative. But I'm from the grip-it-and-rip-it school of golf. So for me in fishing it's grab it and cast it. LOL
Yes to the lemon rig
What did you think about the Shimano Stradic in the bigger sizes when they were available
Spinfisher is not fully sealed...tons of people have had tons of problems with corrosion
Tackle Advisors
that's a lie
Take care of your gear and your gear takes care of you ;)
Scoob from Tackle Advisors knows his shit. Him and Alan Hawk know EVERYTHING about spinning reels. I've seen spinfisher reels fail after very short amounts of time.
Someone told me not to blast the reels off after using in salt water because even if the real is sealed the water pressure can blast some salt and sand into the gears
6atlantis you want to use a mist of water not a jet stream the most still washes the salt off and doesn't push anything inside the reel
yeah buddy , keep it up!
Nice one Jeff
I bought the new stella fj. I'm broke now
wheres the finnor? slayed with my LT60 Its a beast real that packs 30 pounds of drag

Okuma and kastking are the best💪👍

but BG only fast ratio!!, not for jigging! as yes SPF, spheros, cabo etc
I have the old model bg and it's a tank I love it
Penn Z series your grand kids will be using it if you learn to take care of it.

it's probably safer if you keep enough distance, i prefer fishing from shore though personally

Dylan Garcia why not put braid?
You’re bouta get spooled by some tarpon lmao
Thanks for the info bud.
Everyone keeps doing these reviews but I don’t ever see the Twin Power. Do u k ow anything f about those reels? If so could u do a review on them.
