    I love JHS pedals. I've got plenty jhs pedals and have killer tone for a fair price, but this just seems insane on the price point for a pretty simple amp platform. I get they used more expensive components, but I don't think many people will be willing to dish out 2600 bucks on an amp from an amp manufacturer not hugely know in collaboration with jhs obviously known for pedals.
    That being said the amp still sounds great and seems to take pedals very well.

    I got caught up with a Limited Edition handmade boutique amp endorsed by a You Tube channel years ago. My Evil Robot is a killer little amp but man, I sweat on it lasting the long term. I'd hate to take it a local tech & see if it could be repaired. For us normal folks, with limited access to repair techs who know what they are doing, it's best to keep with the bread & butter amps... I've got a Mesa Studio Preamp sitting idle that needs repairs that I can't find a decent repair tech in my area to look at.

I also bought a Milkman Pint combo thats wicked good and got a deal at 2k compared to list 2600. Overpriced? Yeah i think so but the more i play it the more i understand the details. As a player its inspiring but probably as an average listener it's par for the course. I also have Mesa Mark 5 and Fillmore and theyre great too, but the difference in dynamics is there.

    • @sweetwater
      @sweetwater  2 роки тому +1

      Hi, Psychonaut. The JHS amp shares the same design as most Fender amps where the second input is padded. This means that it will give you a lower/quieter signal. This is helpful if you're playing a guitar with high output pickups but don't want to overdrive the amplifier, or if you just want to be able to play at lower volume more easily.
      Thanks for your interest!

    The clean channel of a Fender M80 will get you there for a whole lot less cash. When I fist heard this JHS amp it sounded like a Solid State amp to my ears even though it is a tube amp. Plenty of SS pedal platform amps out there if you can't afford or are more prudent with your money. I also know how to build tube amps and stompboxes. I understand that this uses top quality parts, materials and workmanship thus the price reflects that.

      Yeah I don't care what josh said. low or medium gain, I want to have the choice to put my delay before OR after the preamp. I also want an effects loop that is bypassable via foot-switch so I have the ability to take it out of the circuit on the fly, as if it was never there in the first place. I'm not finished. I'd like to have send and return level control so I have the ability to fine tune my pedals and control the return level so it could be used as a master volume or something along those lines. Did I mention being able to run a different preamp into the effects return which gives you another channel? maybe my bar is set too high for $2.6k

    Yes, the price is overblown for the simple circuit this amp has. (probably because JHS wants their slice of the $$ pie) BUT the amp is not "vastly inferior" to anything. I owned a Milkman and they are absolutely top-notch. One cannot buy a better-quality guitar amplifier at any price. Milkman amps are each hand-built by Tim Marcus, using the best of everything. This LIMG amp seems to sound amazing but would have been better priced around $2,000, IMHO.

  • @richiesguitarshanktuary6923

    I feel the problem is fender figured this sound out in any one of their variations throughout the tweed period through blackface. This reminds me of some kind of brownface kind of amp without the trem and full tone stack. I think wampler tried to do the same thing and it didn't succeed. I think mostly because at its price range people want a classic amp. That likely does a better job and has more happening. As i always say. Some of the best guitar tones in history were by mistake. Bassman 59 comes to mind. Meant for bass ended up becoming not only one of the most famous guitar amps but also was the inspiration and driving force behind what became the super lead and the rest of the Marshall line. One underpowered bass amp become the basis for one of the best sounds ever including those that even inspired distortion pedals themselves.

    • @joywolfe.
      @joywolfe. 3 роки тому

      there's no preamp distortion so your reverbs and delays will probably sound just fine (usually better, in my opinion) going into the front end anyway. That said, it's a ridiculous price for just a clone of a tweed Bassman circuit. The circuit is so simple, it's what they use to make beginner kits!

      @@RasCricketSmallAxe You sure like the smell of your own farts. I know how FX loops work, I just don't think they're always necessary. This amp is expensive as hell and overpriced, no disagreement there, but you just compared apples to toyotas. If the axe fx is your thing, you are probably not not looking for an amp like this. That's why they mass manufacture amps like the boss katana and line 6, etc.
      They are very different animals and often used by very different players.
      Let's put this amp in context. The purpose and beauty of this amp and amps like this ( soldano astroverb for example would be a fair comparison other than wattage and astroverb has reverb.) is the simplicity of design, and purity of signal path. They want it as " organic" and dynamic as possible. This is a hand built, limited run, tube amp built around a very specific purpose using top quality parts ( the mercury mag transformers alone cost a pretty penny) verses the cheap smd and low quality printed PC boards, horrible generic mylar caps and leaky electrolytic of the same crap quality that most mass produced amps are plagued with. There is a huge difference in cost to build as well as construction quality and the cost will reflect that. It sucks that it doesn't have a reverb but other than that it is exactly what ya want in a great single channel pedal friendly 40 watt tube amp and having one built like this from any quality custom builder using the components mentioned in the video is gonna start at about 2500

    “Pedal platform amp”, almost any amp can be a “pedal platfrom amp”. It’s just a marketing trick.
    2600 USD? You can get cheaper stuff that are VASTLY superior, more features, fx loops, built in reverb, and much less money, and you can use whatever pedals you damn please with the same or much better results than this, and if you are willing to spend that high (still less) there is a ton of options that are far superior, off the top of my head:
    -100w Mesa Boogie lonestar combo (2 channels, selectable wattages, fx loop, a billion settings, super spring rev etc), and
    - 40 watt victory duchess dp (1400 USD), single ended and a billion settings for less than quarter the price made in UK
    - tone king imperial II: 20 watt, 2 channels , unique mid boos, super tremolo, super reverb, built in super attenuatoer!!!!
    All these and any “ good “ tube amp, from some fenders, ac30s, egnaters and others, have more value and features than this, and in some cases the same or better quality, yet nothing reaches the inexcusable price of this mythical “unique pedal platform”. It sounds great, but that should be the standard in making amps, it kinda is for most.

    • @SpencerP96
      @SpencerP96 5 років тому

      Here's the thing a true "pedal platform" amp would be equivalent harmonic response as a frfr speaker as in a completely flat eq. Which would sound horrible just plugging your guitar in to.

    • @aymanibrahim9736
      @aymanibrahim9736 5 років тому

      @@SpencerP96 There is No special Harmonic Response on Full Range Speakers, FR speakers just have a very near flat EQ, and this is not the same at all, off course a guitar would sound horrible connected direct to FR speaker, With FR, you are reproducing an existing sound with minimal to zero coloring, By pedal platform, they usually mean a good clean amp that WILL sound good by itself, and can get the best sound out of your pedals, which does not make any sense, cause it is the other way around; your sound starts in the amp, pedals do NOT HAVE sound, but alter the signal, depending on the pedal's purpose and circuit/programming, Amps react differently to the same pedals, and this is where the fun is, and almost any amp from 400-1500 USD, will do the exact same thing this amp is doing and more.
      I've used pedals with UAD plugins, Kemper, tube Fender vintage SR, Mesa Boogie Mark V and others, and I could get everything to sound almost the same or totally different, it is just a matter of setup and preference, and the result; there is no such thing as a specialized pedal platform amp. it's not a coincidence that two of the most overpriced pedal makers, JHS and Wampler, have two overpriced "pedal platforms" each.
