Thanks Josh - that 48V phantom power + XLR in was the feature that I have been wishing for. There was no way I was going to lash out on 500 series, so Thank you for V2 as pedal. Awesome!
A few years back my buddy owned a place called the Gear Trader. It was new and used and vintage and it was just incredible the stuff that would come through. One of my favorite combinations was 4 Princeton's... 3 insanely clean brown and one w/reverb, at the tail-end, I think a silver face. Into the first hi input then out of the second lo into the first hi of the next amp and so on... With a tube screamer thrown in for a little hot sauce. It was sort of jaw-dropping you could just move and sustain notes everywhere, which is something that we would go for hooking up all kinds of different amps and speakers, but the Princeton's were so right I believe because of the volume. We could get that sustain out of any number of amps but they were usually higher output and the volume would kill you. So so bummed when he closed.
I know I don't need this pedal as a bedroom player, but, goddammit, I can't stop loving it. I already loved the previous one, this one is just incredibly amazing.
So my first two thoughts: 1. On headphones: the A/B comparison between the 2 drum setup, with and without Color Box: just perfect. Sounds like the home-studio engineers (me) secret dream weapon. Full kit action with lots of character from Two microphones at the stomp of a button. 2. We grew up with $100 used 4-tracks. Fostex, Tascam... I love the clean sound of direct in guitar. People told me "you can't do that". But then I find out people like Zappa are mixing in those tones in for pop and clarity. Then I hear Beatles were overloading DI guitars into NEVE boards to get those sounds. I knew a guy that used to walk around with a suitcase full of parts of a gutted NEVE board from some studio in Europe. Seemed a little eccentric back then but now I know: people really go chasing those tones. Definitely wanna try recording with this thing.
I had a chance too borrow one about 18 months ago, for a rushed session. This box was absolutely what the doctor ordered! I will be buying my own for the future!
My buddy recently acquired a Quadra-Pog you guys modded and immediately traded it for a Colour Box. I was so jealous, but just wait til I flex on him with the new V2.
Maxon Mendel - would you believe he got the Pog for only 120 dollars? A Guitar Center near him bought it in as a regular Pog and had the price listed as such lol
I got to play one of these with a bass yesterday at my local Long and McQuade. It was wicked! The controls over EQ for use as a preamp are unmatched at this size. Much more impressive than other bass driver / preamp options. When I started pushing The color box to it's limits The sounds it creates inspired me to play differently than I normally would, that's a good thing in my eyes. Amazing preamp / pedal. It creates very nice distorted sounds, very good decay, synth like tone, break down and blown out sound... THIS THING IS EPIC! The possibilities are endless. Wish I could afford it yesterday. The JHS Color box V2 is now on my bucket list.
I honestly can't be mad at shameless plugs like this coming from you. With how much effort you put into selling other guys' gear, you deserve to advertise your creations.
My favorites on the “Colors” album are: I’m So Free, and No Distraction. I’m very impressed by the version 2 of the Colour box in this video. I bought the original one basically when it first came out and love it!
As much as you put forth pedals across-the-board regardless of maker, you’re entitled to a shameless plug and I for one am happy you’re plugging away. I love this thing! I’m in!
Just purchased this pedal and it is the best preamp pedal / EQ / Console in a box out there. Much kinder on my wallet versus the other preamp I was looking at a Sebatron Thorax. JHS pedals are revolutionary. I see many color boxes all in my studio. Thank you for an amazing product and at an amazing price!! Cheers
I just bought one of these last night!!! My buddy sold it to me. He has a few. My God, this thing is amazing!! Can’t wait to use it on vocals and everything else! Wow! Hey, that was a good song Nick! And that dude could sing!

You've missed the, probably, most famous guitar part ever recorded straight to the desk: Another brick in the wall. The famous guitar solo is a '56 Les Paul to the Abbey Road desk.
Gibson 1955 Les Paul Goldtop David’s perhaps most famous Les Paul is his 1955 Goldtop. This was used to record several guitar parts on The Wall and most notably the solo on Another Brick in the Wall (part 2). David would also use the guitar on the The Wall tour in 1980-81 while performing Happiest Days of Our Lives, occasionally the Another Brick 2 solo switching from the Black Strat used on the rhythm parts, One of My Turns and Last Few Bricks. - (left) David pictured during the latter part of the Wall tour with the 1955 Goldtop. (right) A second Gold Top, this one is a 1956 featuring a Bigsby tremolo bridge as seen at Royal Albert Hall, London, UK, 30 May 2006. The ’55 Goldtop was also used throughout the 80s and 90s - on a couple of tracks on Momentary Lapse of Reason, among these Round and Around and Poles Apart and A Great Day For Freedom from Division Bell. The guitar was displayed at the 2003-04 Interstellar Exhibition in it’s original case among David’s Wall pedal boards and other guitars. It was last seen used on the Island Blues jam that were filmed in David’s barn and released as a teaser for On An Island December 23 2005. The Les Paul Goldtop has a bronze metallic finish mahogany body with a maple top and binding. The neck is mahogany with an ebony fretboard and binding. David’s 1955 model feature a “wrap around” tailpiece and two P-90 pickups with white covers.
Gibson 1956 Les Paul Goldtop David’s second Les Paul Goldtop is more or less identical to the 1955 model with the exception of a Bigsby bridge with tremolo. Originally the guitar came with a “tune-o-matic” bridge, which Gibson introduced with the 1956 models. It’s not known when Gilmour got this guitar and whether the Bigsby was custom fitted before or after he got it. The ’56 was used on several songs on On An Island - notably the first part of the first solo on the title track and This Heaven. David also used the guitar on the 2006 tour while performing This Heaven. It was again used at the special performance of Island Jam at the Odeon cinema theatre in London, UK, in September 2007 for the premiere of the Remember That Night DVD release. The guitar was last used on the recording (and performance) of the track Chicago in support of Gary McKinnon together with Chrissie Hynde and Bob Geldorf in 2009 and on the track Song to the Siren off Bryan Ferry’s album Olympia (2010).
You're a little late. Wikipedia - Colourbox were an English electronic musical group on the 4AD label, releasing a number of records between 1982 and 1987. The band was formed by brothers Martyn and Steve Young, Ian Robbins, and vocalist Debbion Currie. Currie and Robbins left the band in 1983, with the role of vocalist being filled by Lorita Grahame.

Outstanding! I'm gonna look into this for my 15 yo son. Versatile! I can't say enough about Beck - what a master! - I don't think I could pick a favorite Beck song or album, but Midnite Vultures, Sea Change, and Morning Phase are at the top of the list. His B-sides and remixes are also wonderful. What I love most about him is how he deconstructs instruments and his voice for songs - they aren't precious, but are just ingredients in the big delicious cake that he makes for us. He played a benefit for the family of a deceased coworker of mine, right as Loser was starting to hit. I was impressed by him personally and professionally, and from a guy who worked in the bus., that's saying a lot. Congratulations on this. more malt o' meal, myron.

This pedal is genius. I don't own it nor am I an expert by any stretch of the imagination, but this device seems like one of the most worthwhile purchases you can make as a musician.
My two favorite uses of this method of plugging straight into the console and overdriving the preamp is in Nirvana's "Territorial Pissings" and Radiohead's "Bodysnatchers"
Song is actually cool! Well layered and brilliantly produced! Was looking to hate on you dorks but I'm at the dinner table eating crow. Bravo gentlemen!
I gotta tell ya, I took online classes from Berklee College Of Music and one of the assignments was the solo from "Easy Like Sunday Morning" and I used the Colour Box. Professor could not figure out how the hell I got that sound in my apartment. He loved it.
@Regular Joseph I didn't get the sense he was killing it, ya know, teacher's salaries. But yeah, I did, and it actually made me a much better guitarist.
@Regular Joseph No worries man. It's different for everybody, right? I am learning at 48 that I actually have a pretty decent ear but just the structure of how I ended up learning guitar made me reliant on tab for learning and then just finger-dexterity and muscle-memory. I never TRIED to learn things by ear. Now that I am, which is entirely because of the Berklee Online classes, I'm learning that it comes pretty easy to me. Wish I'd done it 30 years ago. But also having to practice a piece over and over and over again to be critiqued by a professional really helped me to focus on the nuance of playing that I hardly ever noticed before and certainly couldn't do. At my age, I play for myself, but I am the harshest critic of me there is so actually getting genuinely good at music is worth some actual money.
Just picked up my Colour Box V2 today and I am truly impressed. I use it in my effects loop of my amp and it just gives my already great sounding amp even more warmth and juice. It's definitely now one of my favorite pedals and I believe me I have some great ones.
It would be perfect for those who want to add guitar effects on voice! You just keep the XLR output dry, then the other goes into a delay and reverb and you get the mix. 😍 And it sounds good as f*ck on any instrument !
Video sold me ! Picked up one and all I could say is, “wow” too. Been reamping everything through it . Sounds amazing , my favorite new sound tool/pedal .
BECK is so good. It took me a long time to realize this because I did not like Mellow Gold (too much blown-out abrasive lo-fi for me to hang with, even though it has good songs.) But I did notice the albums in his discography stacking up one by one until you don't know where to begin. Then I found Guero. That was the clincher for me. Later came Sea Change and Midnite Vultures. So good! Now I would pounce on just about anything he does. But I still don't spin Mellow Gold or Odelay that much. I have to find Colors.
@@jhspedals found a seller on Reverb. If this pedal is everything it promises to be, this is going to be a game changer for my dorm room studio. A kick ass mic pre, an awesome EQ, a fuzz, a way to convert a mic signal to something that other pedals can use (not sure about the last one, but I can hope), all in a smallish package? No pressure Josh, but this might be the best release you've ever had.
Two shall be the number of Colourboxes in my studio! Good they sound! The Phantom Power shall make love to my Oktava, like Siberian tiger! In other words, y'all made my most versatile pedal even better, and now I gotta start counting pennies out of all those Crown Royal sacks so I can have the scratch for V2.
Hey Josh, Nick, et all, Peter, Paulie G, Mary Spender. I need this track! What's it called? Where can I find it? I looped this video in the background while I watched "Indiana Jones & The TOD". I watched the movie several times. I pulled an all-nighter because I was hooked. Your song kept syncing up with the movie in mind sucking ways. I fell asleep before I could sync it to "Raiders of the Lost Ark." I can't find Doolittle on LinkedIn. Am I spelling it wrong? I've been holding out, saving penny by penny to buy this box. It'd be my first JHS box after watching this channel's videos for a year and a half. The first time I heard and saw the stinger for "HE HAS THE BOX", I was sold on the value of boxes. I needed one, but which one? My vocal rig is underdeveloped compared to my sparse guitar rig. I thought this would make a great voice box. So a month or so ago, with all my fungible pennies (do not eat) converted to NFT, I bought a box! I now have a JHS box! I was so thrilled when it arrived, I didn't even bother to look for the manual. I have to admit, the box was a bit heavy with a colourful metal box inside it. In a nod to JHS mods, I removed that metal box, tossed it in a milk crate full of random cables, and never thought twice about it. I've been playing with that empty box ever since. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think tossing that metal thing into the crate seems to have created a true bypass box. The sound of the empty box is so transparent. No hum, no signal interference, just blissful silence. I love it! A few days back, while laying down a vocal track in the studio, listening to my studio monitors, the hair on the back of my neck stood on end. I was breathless for a moment. Then I remarked something into the mic that came out strangely. It sounded like Italian. "Da dove viene quella voce dolce?" I tried to transcribe and translate it. Google said it meant, "Where does that sweet voice come from?" It wasn't a plugin. My mixer wasn't running any gain or compression. I traced my signal chain and found that colourful metal box connected. I have no idea how it got there. I didn't do it. No one else has access to my studio. It was a mystery. It added a mystical quality to my vocals. I had no idea the box I bought could contain something so remarkable, perhaps more remarkable than the box itself (blasphemy). It was as if discovering a mummy being more interesting than its sarcophagus (never before). But if you've ever seen a mummy in a sarcophagus, you know it's more like packing material, bubble wrap, packing peanuts, filler confetti than a wrapped human. So I did a little research (very little). Turns out, the sarcophaguses of the pharoahs contained more than just their mummies. According to history.com, they also contained "everything they'd need for the afterlife such as vehicles, tools, food, wine, perfume, and household items." Tools? Hmm. With this knowledge I was able to realize that this metal box with the vibrantly coloured knobs was a communication device, a tool. When I heard how clear my voice sounded through it, I realized this tool could send my voice to the heavens. It was so clear, full, and pristine. So half of the mystery was solved. A mummy could communicate from the afterlife with such a device (provided it has phantom power mwah ha ha). But what I hadn't solved yet; how did this device get into my signal chain? This half of the mystery is still unsolved. Last night I listened to this JHS video on loop while in my bedroom watching "Raiders...", I heard an abrupt sound which I thought was coming from my studio. It was loud and dirty like my studio. I ignored it for a moment figuring that these were Tartini, or "resultant/combination" tones created from the combination of your video and "Raiders...", a psychoacoustic phenomenon. I continued watching. Moments later, I heard a riff, not just a noise. I paused the videos and it continued, sounding like John Lennon's distorted guitar. I put the videos back on to cover my movements as I walked to my studio. When I went to quietly turn the door knob, it was locked. I grabbed my keys and quietly unlocked the door and opened it a touch. The lights were off and the room was silent. As my heart rate steadied, I turned on the light. Everything seemed in its place... ...except the box, which was stuck to the backside of my guitar, with the strap draped over one corner of the box. Was the box playing my guitar? Was it trying to summon the mummy from beyond? It doesn't matter. I still HAS THE BOX! However, with its daft sense of direct-to-console tones, it's been promoted to the role of guitar tech for now. Perhaps I'll buy another box and form a duo. One for my voice and one for my guitar tech, "Boxy." Perhaps my next box will include the pedal, some wine, perfume, and a food processor to help me through my afterbox life. Mummies be funky! Steve Martin King Tut. (first video link) Shoutout to Adam Neely for introducing me to resultant tones. (second video link) You video producers are pretty cool! ua-cam.com/video/wgTPH5y1-ZI/v-deo.html ua-cam.com/video/73_CiAYX00k/v-deo.html Really, where can I find this song you guys made? Wow! I feel like I just returned from the edge of space reading the op again. It's like I saw Albert Doolittle up there. He very much looks and sounds like the result of Bowie's space travels. It's what I imagine would happen if Bowie impregnated the upper stratosphere and Doolittle was the result, a perfect splashdown for the times! And gosh, Josh! I really need an expert to authentic this art piece and tell me it's NOT Daft Punk or Chromeo or Tame Impala. Doolittle welcome to Earth. "It's sick!"
THURSDAY IS JHS DAY!!! It matters not that this is a shameless plug... this is prime JHS. Josh, Nick and “Albert” shone today! The chances of my owning even a V1 is slim, but the tone is SWEEEEEEEET! Keep the goodness coming! Thank you for making my cold Thursday night in England enjoyable!
Josh, you're very lucky to have Nick working with you. He clearly knows his way around a studio, and it appears he can play just about anything you throw at him! I was however wondering if he has a twin brother, because your singer, 'Mr Doolittle' is the image of him! Clearly it's not the same person, as obviously Nick hasn't got long, bright blue hair! The track itself sounded fantastic, and the Colorbox V.2 really made a difference. It would be interesting to hear it with all the CBs in bypass to hear the original versus the effect-driven sound. All in all, very impressed. Sadly as my "playing" couldn't justify $500 (or its equivalent in Her Majesty's Coin of the Realm)! I won't be buying one. However, if you were looking to give one away.......
OMG! Now I have to have this..This is what I've been looking for! Thanks, Nick! You are amazing. I saw Beck a few years ago..He's one of my all time favorites!

I have a Supro and I love it. But I'll ALWAYS cover the blackface Princeton.
@@LTJR. - If you'd have PURCHASED the Princetons he'd still be open...
The Colour Box is still my favorite JHS pedal and the one i've always wanted.
How can it be your favorite pedal if you don't own it?
@@lolobuggah2670 it still can
My buddy recently acquired a Quadra-Pog you guys modded and immediately traded it for a Colour Box. I was so jealous, but just wait til I flex on him with the new V2.
The price on the quadrapog is insane
Maxon Mendel - would you believe he got the Pog for only 120 dollars? A Guitar Center near him bought it in as a regular Pog and had the price listed as such lol
Nick is the man!!!!! Doing this kind of stuff for a living would be a dream come true.
Josh and Nick’s back and forth on this episode remind me of those duos who host the home shopping networks at like 2 in the morning
Beck is my spirit animal. I love everything he's ever done
Shitty recordings in his apartment to full on dance music. Love it all.
Ok.

I honestly can't be mad at shameless plugs like this coming from you. With how much effort you put into selling other guys' gear, you deserve to advertise your creations.
My bonsai and muffaletta just showed up and I get notification from you to watch a new video. I didnt even get it open yet. Stoked.
Add a CTC Constellation and you're superbly covered.
Thanks for the advice. I'll check it out.
Well, as far as pedal demos go, that was cracking! Nice job guys, Nick slayed it.
Love the “Ronde Van Vlaanderen” T-shirt, greetings from Flanders!
I feel like this is the first commercial I didn't want to end. Lol.
My favorites on the “Colors” album are: I’m So Free, and No Distraction. I’m very impressed by the version 2 of the Colour box in this video. I bought the original one basically when it first came out and love it!
YOU COOKY FELLOWS....THE SOUNDS REMIND ME OF WAY BACK IN THE DAYS RECORDING WITH A TASCAM 4TRK CASSETTE TAPE RECORDER.......
A douchey comment in all caps...super douchey!
As much as you put forth pedals across-the-board regardless of maker, you’re entitled to a shameless plug and I for one am happy you’re plugging away. I love this thing! I’m in!
Aaaaand another pedal I want to buy with money I don't have.
You can want to buy it with money I don’t have if that helps to switch things up a bit for you.
@ivebeen ah yes, the non-existent amount. Will do :D
...yet!
Start up a go fund me?
Just purchased this pedal and it is the best preamp pedal / EQ / Console in a box out there. Much kinder on my wallet versus the other preamp I was looking at a Sebatron Thorax. JHS pedals are revolutionary. I see many color boxes all in my studio. Thank you for an amazing product and at an amazing price!! Cheers
That end song is very Empire of the Sun meets Tame Impala. Shweet!
I just bought one of these last night!!! My buddy sold it to me. He has a few. My God, this thing is amazing!! I’m a vintage guy…70’s Sunn Concert head with an 18 in ‘69 Sunn cab and an early 70’s Lawsuit Ibanez Jazz bass. This just polished the entire rig…I’m blown away. Can’t wait to use it on vocals and everything else! Wow! Hey, that was a good song Nick! And that dude could sing!
That guy from linkedin was fantastic! So eccentric!
This was your best video yet.
Very entertaining. Also - thanks for posting some things about your own pedals. Love that you spread the love, but happy to hear more about your stuff and why you do what you do.
Forget the new John Lewis Christmas advert launch, this is the best plug of 2019. #OneForTheBrits
It was at 16:18 that I realized this is by far my favorite video I've seen in the last 17 minutes. Sounds great, and nice work on the song composition and rad music video!
You've missed the, probably, most famous guitar part ever recorded straight to the desk: Another brick in the wall.
The famous guitar solo is a '56 Les Paul to the Abbey Road desk.
1955 Les Paul Gold top w/ P90s . With GHS Boomers 10.5 13 17 30 40 50. Yes, I’m changing a lot of strings during Quarantine Lockdown
Gibson 1955 Les Paul Goldtop
David’s perhaps most famous Les Paul is his 1955 Goldtop.
Gibson 1956 Les Paul Goldtop
David’s second Les Paul Goldtop is more or less identical to the 1955 model with the exception of a Bigsby bridge with tremolo.
@@peterwelsh1932 yes! 55 with the wraparound bridge! My mistake!

This is the best advertisement I have ever seen for anything. I'm convinced, I need a colourbox. For those drum sounds alone.
The 9V is probably my favorite feature
I did not expect to be as inspired as I am now after watching this. Plus I learned how to make a song. these pedals are amazing.
The 500 series version is awesome. PLEASE keep making that!
This show needs a third character, and it needs to be a puppet that neither of you EVER acknowledge as anything other than a real person.
That's sounds like YOU should use that idea...
I can see that so easily. He’d be a complete professional and you’d never know his tormented muppet side until VH1 resurrects Behind The Music.

I gotta tell ya, I took online classes from Berklee College Of Music and one of the assignments was the solo from "Easy Like Sunday Morning" and I used the Colour Box. Professor could not figure out how the hell I got that sound in my apartment. He loved it.
LOL Thats gotta be like using performance enhancing drugs
They're going to ban the use of them like my high school banned everyone from citing wikipedia in their research papers.
@Regular Joseph
I didn't get the sense he was killing it, ya know, teacher's salaries.
But yeah, I did, and it actually made me a much better guitarist.
@Regular Joseph
No worries man.
@Regular Joseph Well done.
Just picked up my Colour Box V2 today and I am truly impressed. I use it in my effects loop of my amp and it just gives my already great sounding amp even more warmth and juice. It's definitely now one of my favorite pedals and I believe me I have some great ones.

Nice cycling t-shirt.
And also the pedal.
But certainly the T-shirt.

It would be perfect for those who want to add guitar effects on voice! You just keep the XLR output dry, then the other goes into a delay and reverb and you get the mix. 😍 And it sounds good as f*ck on any instrument !
Seriously, this song sounds killer, nice job guys great content as always

Territorial Pissings was recorded directly on the desk too iirc
This may be the greatest pedal ad I have ever watched.
Best song you’ve guys have ever put up on this channel. I really wish i could afford this pedal. It costs about %30 more in Canada.

"The streets are made of everything we tried; didn't work, so we died" the lyric of the decade, right there. Doolittle is a genius.
I fell asleep before I could sync it to "Raiders of the Lost Ark."
I can't find Doolittle on LinkedIn.
(first video link)
Shoutout to Adam Neely for introducing me to resultant tones. (second video link)

You're gonna need to go ahead and make some T-shirts for Albert Dolittle
Is this going to be $500 like when I find the V1 for sale?
