I have one home Studio in Brazil as well but I have just a microfone 😢 🎙️
@@monkeyrevolution1964 That's a great start! I built my studio step-by-step, one piece at a time. You'll get there!
What a bunch of nerdy, useless B.S.
At the beginning, at least. I'am OUT.
Man I love a good Mitch Gallagher vid
Thanks for watching!
Man Mitch, not only does your studio look great but you’re looking pretty dapper yourself sir!
Aw, you're too kind!
Thanks so much for having us involved in this room transformation! It was fun seeing it come to life!
Did I miss the promised "after" measurements?
@@Fastvoice Gavin talks about the "after" results later in the video.
Thank YOU! What a pleasure working with you on this project!
@@mitchgallagher2755 Without measurement graphs?
You and your wife's history of moving through your musical journey is very interesting and inspiring to me as a musician. Thank you both!
I've seen lots of Gavin's work. He truly is a genius when it come to acoustics & design.
You're too kind! I really appreciate that. Thanks for watching!
Gavin is the best!
That employee discount must come in handy. Nice space.
Thanks for watching!
This is the best “Studio Acoustics 101” video ever!
Thanks so much!
Appreciate that!
The reverbation and noise reflection that was very prominent and now it sounds really good
it's relatively easy to treat the mid's and high's, but they didn't treat the low end under 100Hz. You need much deeper absorption that's based on pressure based absorption. I would have chosen other products from another company if it was my room. Also, the amount of diffusion was minimal and I highly doubt he has enough surface coverage. Typically for diffusion, you need at LEAST 50% or more surface coverage, but you first have to treat the other problems first, which he didn't.
@@Oneness100 OK
@@Oneness100 There certainly are many ways you could approach the process. This was what Gavin suggested, and it turned out great! We did discuss in the video that the low bass would not be addressed much by these treatments. That's where the IK Multimedia Arc systems are coming in very handy!
@@mitchgallagher2755 The process I was taught is to fix the low frequency problems first when dealing with a full spectrum application like a control room.
Low frequencies are the most powerful. the most difficult to deal with. once you get the low frequency problems solved, the mid's and high's are easy to fix. And THEN you add diffusion.
It's too bad Gavin doesn't know about the other company's products and have familiarity with them, if he did, then he would probably suggest them over what you have.
But if you're fine with not fixing the low end, then keep what you have, but if you want to fix the low end and have an insane listening experience, let me know. I'd be happy to tell you what company you should contact. Or, if you have another room you want to treat.
No, I do not get paid by this company, I do not work for them. I've just been in a few of their rooms that blew my mind and I love to turn others onto their products because when it comes to acoustic treatment, most products are just not that good IMO.
MITCH SHOULD DO A SHOW BASED ON WHAT HE ALREADY DOES! FLIP THE HOUSE, BUILD THE STUDIO LOL
HGTV, give me a call!
Why all caps?
I was thinking this. I’d watch it. I’m a musician but I know very little about what goes into setting up a studio, I also know next to nothing about home reno. but I was so dang interested right off the bat!
Looks great, Mitch!! However, that room empty was the ultimate ambient drum room!! lol.
Yes --talk about an amazing "live" room for drums! LOL
This guy is a legend and I’m glad his studio is so awesome
You're very kind, thank you!
Thanks Mitch!! You are always a blessing!!
You're very kind, thank you so much!
So many great ideas in one studio, thanks for sharing your research and end results, Mitch. The Echorec is icing on the cake, yum.
Thank you for watching! It's a lot of years of experience putting together a lot of different studios. I love the Echorec, so fun!
Thank you, in your first video I mentioned about the nice sounding acoustic on your room, now it's more clear what's been done ( under the hood) in side the room and I catch up the offset impaler this item will be a great improvement for my room to, thank you. 🙏🏽
I find the offset impalers make a noticeable difference. Well worth it, in my opinion. Thanks for watching!
So rad, thanks for sharing Mitch!
Thanks for watching!
I'd love to take a test drive in this studio!
Thanks for watching!
I painted my studio what appears to be the exact same color, “Web gray” with white trim. I think I’m going to have to remove the carpet and install wood floors now. It seems my studio is a never ending, evolving project. That’s okay, my entire life is dedicated to it!
Love the color my wife picked out for the room. It's perfect. Studios are indeed never ending, constantly evolving. That's part of the fun of it. Thanks for watching!
Great job with execution, Mitch! Beautiful studio!
Thank you so much! I'm really enjoying it!
Wow, Mitch! Really a fantastic space and interesting video.
Thanks so much!
Thanks for
Video i may borrow the curtain rod trick. Cool video Mitch.
It's all yours! Hope it works as well for you as it did for me!
Great and beautiful studio Mitch! Learned a lot, thanks for this👍
I'm so glad, thanks for watching!
THE>SUTL FAZE,IN IS AMAZING
Nice studio Mitch. I would love to have a room like that.
Thanks so much for watching!
Love your space Mitch! It's very impressive the results you got, you can tell a world of difference just from your lav mic in that space!
It's definitely a dramatic improvement. Thanks so much for watching!
THAT JAM IS HAPINEN
Very Nice Studio Mitch!!! I've seen many of your Studio video's and I think this is Your Best Studio Yet!!! You have My Dream Studio!!! Makes Me want to work at @SWEETWATER, HAHA!!!
Thank you -- I agree, I've really been enjoying this space. Sweetwater is always looking for great people! :)
Thanks son much for the video Mitch. My wife was in the room as I was watching the video. She laughed like mad when she heard you say that Studios are always evolving.
Ha -- it's a fact! Thanks for watching!
Thanks, Mitch! That was one of the more informative and useful videos I’ve ever seen on room treatment. Gavin was thorough and understandable, even on the deeper stuff. Excellent job for you both!
I'm so glad you found it useful, thanks for watching. Gavin is the best!
love it . the cow rug is a favor for me beside the lovely studio
Thanks! All the decor is my talented wife's domain!
Incredible, nice work putting that all together
Thank you! The entire process was a lot of fun.
great video, Mitch is an incredibly smooth talker!
Thank you -- I've had a little practice! :)
High quality edutainment this was. 👌🏿
that's a beautiful work space Mitch 💯💯💯💯💯💯
I think so too, thank you!
Mitch is the unsung hero of audio. Sweetwater struck gold when they hired him. The way he explains keeps me engaged and spending money.😂 I can definitely vouch for the ARC correction software, it transformed my mix position in to a pleasant place to sit for hours without fatigue. I'm sure Sonar one is just as good or better. No matter how much treatment, I can almost guarantee your low end is off. It may not be off enough to effect your mixes in a super negative way, but it's definitely off... unless your mix room is 60ft long.
That's so kind of you to say, thank you!
Would like to see a follow up video on your final treatment of the iso room.
I'll see what I can do!
Great walkthrough. You modeled extremely well how to approach this with well defined goals and accepting and planning around the limitations of an “off the shelf” treatment approach- thanks
Thank you! That really was my goal, to get the best results possible, with off-the-shelf treatments.
Wow Mitch, that is a fantastic looking room a sweet studio and the view from that window I guess the curtain is so you can actually get some work done! I would find it hard to move to a new project when the time comes. Brilliant video thanks.
Thanks! It's so nice to have natural light and a view. I try not to let it be a distraction.
As a drummer who plans to turn a portion of our unfinished basement into a recording studio, this video had a lot of poignant topics; really awesome stuff.
I'm so glad you found it helpful!
THAT,STOODEYO,IS,BEAUTIFULL
Thanks!
Great setup Mitch! Enjoyed seeing the process.
Thanks, Nick! It was a lot of fun putting it all together.
Mitch does fantastic videos. He likes clean sounds. I have no style, my studio is in the basement also, but NO window. Most of my gear is analog. I would want to look at buying a new house to make substantial studio. One of the corners in my room has double corners and I don't know what to do with that.
Thank you for your kind words. "Style" is 100% my talented wife's department. But it's surprising what a difference working in a comfortable, aesthetically pleasing space can make. I don't know your particular situation, but if there are physical challenges in your room or the space is asymmetrical, try to put those things behind the listening position for least impact.
yes ... I love Mitch's video's ......awesome
You're very kind, thank you!
Love it, thank you for the learning.
Thanks for watching!
Now this is what I Been waiting to see!!!!!!
Glad you liked it!
The Man. the Mitch. The Legend.
LOL -- thanks for watching!
I've always wondered how to treat a room for home recording. Thank you for the very well done video! "Off the shelf treatments " ,thanks for the terminology too!
I'm so glad that you found this useful! Thanks for watching.
That's a sweet room, Mitch. You're a gem!
I appreciate that, thank you!
Great video Mitch. I’m working on my 6th studio and some of your designs I will be STEALING LOL. Would love to see more of your amp closet and how you designed it. ROCK ON Mitch and @sweetwater.
Steal away! I'm glad you found useful info in the video, thanks for watching!
Wow! I met you at SW a few weeks ago…your were very down to earth and gracious…. I told you I had the Avid S3 and Dock but I see you have went with the SSL controllers…I know avids controllers are a bit buggy but I don’t have the budget to upgrade anytime soon.. my next wish list will be two Newton channels and an Audio scape LA2A clone unit along with a Ni 88key controller keyboard…..
I have the Dock, but I'm still using the Artist Mix because I'm too cheap to fork over $1500 for the S1. Every once in awhile, I consider getting an S3 in good condition from Reverb and calling it done.
I remember meeting you! The S3 and Dock are great. I've been quite enjoying the SSL control surfaces, especially since I work in DAWs other than Pro Tools. You'd have a fantastic rig with that wishlist of gear!
Nice and informative - enjoy that!
Thank you!
Another Mitch's home studio?! It'll never get done
Is any studio ever done? But I admit I've been through a few! But I loved them all and try to put them to good use!
Killer setup Mitch!
Thanks so much!
I got a lot of good ideas from this video that I am going apply to my home studio!
Thanks great, thanks so much!
This is great Mitch, thanks for sharing and greetings from Mexico! Sal Velarde.
Greetings, and thanks for watching!
Love it! What a wonderful home studio!!!
Thank you so much! It turned out better than I even hoped. It's a great space for making music.
Thank you Mitch! I enjoyed this!
Thanks for watching!!
GREAT acoustics explanation, more videos like this please
There's always more to talk about with acoustics! We'll see what we can do!
Great! Really fun to watch.
Thanks so much for watching!
LOOKING,GOOD MR.GALAGER,KEEP UP THE,GOOD WORK,KEEP GOD FIRST
Thank you!
Nicely done, Mitch. And I mean both the studio AND your video. But you made no mention of what the price range might be for all of this treatment.
Thank you! I didn't buy it all at once. I accumulated the treatment over a number of years, moving it from one studio to the next, so I don't really have a total.
Sweetwater should sell those shelves you used for the effects rack: 15:08
Yeah, I may be shopping soon for something similar.
Haha,I just re-watched andrew masters tour of your studio and was going to ask you to do an update....and holy moly I got it...let looks nice
Thanks Mitch
It's definitely a pretty substantial update, very happy with it. Thanks for watching!
I could listen to Mitch all day, he has such a good vibe 🍻
You're very kind! Even I don't want to listen to myself all day! 🤣
@@mitchgallagher2755 Would be great if we could listen to what you compose , I compose too, love jazz, prog rock, music for musicians, and also anything that has a good feel 👌 , keep up the good work 🎼
Sure! My music is available in all the usual places.
@@mitchgallagher2755 👌
I love this
Thank you for watching!
whew a dream come true workspace! inquiring minds want to know, how much$? i guess if you have to ask.... lol. BTW tasty little guitar clips there, you're putting the studio to good use
Thank you, I really enjoy it. I guess you could total it all up, but building a studio (for me) has been an ongoing process that's taken years, I didn't buy it all at once. Step-by-step, one piece at a time will get you there!
Nice space and setup Mitch! congratulations!
Thank you!
Nice Mitch! Paul Lea has been my guy there for over 20 years and had served me well.
Paul is awesome! Thanks for watching.
Awesome setup..
Thank you, I'm really happy with it.
LOVED THIS! Inspiring.
Thanks for watching!
Nice space Mitch.
My only comment would be your comparison of the SSL control surface vs an SSL Console.
I’m not sure anything matches a well serviced large console. I currently use the Big Six.
Totally agree -- from a workflow standpoint, the control surfaces are awesome. But obviously there are many benefits from using a "real" console. The Big Six is great!
Looks Amazing!!
Thanks so much!
Before treatment, The reverb was pretty cool . Did you make any reverb IR's for Altaverb or Logic?
Oh man, I should have! It was definitely live in there before!!
Great home studio setup! I really recommend you checking out the RAB ProJax 40's for your monitors! Made a huge difference in my setup. Cleans up the stereo imaging way more than you'd think!
Good suggestion, I have ProJax isolators. They're awesome!
What a wonderful, clean, simple setup,
Thanks so much! I try to keep things streamlined so I can focus on creating music.
Very cool. Thanks for sharing your personal studio and Gavin's related acoustical engineering. Do you write and publish music?
Yes! I'm at all the usual places.
Superb video. I really appreciated seeing your organised studio. Hope your wife enjoyed inheriting your shoe racks!
They're being put to good use! LOL. Thanks for watching!
THANKS, MG!
Thank you!
Hey Mitch, nice studio and on point advice:)! Thank you...
Thank you so much!
NiCe studio!
Looks like you’re taking better care of yourself too!
😎
Thank you!
That room is every musicians dream!
It certainly is my dream! Thanks for watching!
You are blessed brother.
I 100% agree, and I'm so grateful. Thanks for watching!
A very nice stdio, Mitch. Would love to get together to share some info. and ideas for my set up the next time I'll be at SW's.. Blessings.
You can ask for me when you're there!
Eight renovations? Oh my!
I'm helping my partner on her 2nd. I'm not doing anymore! Great studio, luv the views of nature outside the windows.
Yeah, being able to see grass and trees and sky is important. Even on the wet and cloudy day that the second half of the video was done on, it's still good for humans to see outside.
I've worked in enough window-less studios to really appreciate natural light and a view while I'm working.
Goals 🤟
Step-by-step gets you there!
Incredibly interesting deep dive!
I'm so glad you enjoyed it!
Thank you for allowing us a look inside your studio. Curious, what model and size is the ultra wide monitor?
It's an Acer, I believe 38" -- it was the largest I could find that allowed for placing the monitor speakers where I wanted them.
So do you take home any money or does it just stay at the office? Just curious 😎 I know I'd be broke if I worked for you guys. Nice work Mitch looks like a great place to work in!
LOL -- it can be tough working in the "candy store." I'm really enjoying the space. Thanks for watching!
this is really nicely done.
Thank you!
Cool ❤
Thanks for watching!
THANKS
Sweet place Mitch!
Very grateful to have it -- thanks!
Nice man
Thanks!
Enjoyed your video so much as usual. I'm not a super high tech guy, but you made it so a mediocre tech guy, can understand most of what you said. Starting with 2 cassette decks to a Porta 1 to now a Zoom digital 16 track stand alone, I did get some ideas.
Thank you - I'm so glad you found it useful! I started out on a PortaStudio myself. The Zoom is a huge leap forward, that's for sure!!
Mitch I think You should Keep This House… most epic view for composing music. And Take a dip in the lake between sets. Baller Status.
We're enjoying it! Thanks for watching!
Great work on the studio! Thanks for giving us an inside look at the process of acoustic treatment. What were your considerations for switching from the focal monitors to Neumann? I’ve been using the focal twins for a long time and am curious. Thanks!
I didn't own the Focals, they were a loan. I tried number of monitors in there, and found that the 310/750 combo really worked well. And, I've been using KH120 monitors for a long time, so I "knew"the sound.
Nice informative video. Did you put carpet or a rug on the floor to help with acoustics? I will be moving to a new house soon and was thinking about putting carpet on the floor in my next music room. Most homes here in south Florida have tile floors.
My wife supplied a beautiful rug for the floor. With tile, I find it is essential to tame it a bit.
Mitch you're the best!
You're very kind, thank you!
Nice and tidy. :) How about going with one IK ARC on Genelecs, and using Neumann MA-1 proprietary correction on Neumann speakers with DSP of KH 750? It not only corrects amplitude but phase too. Would make a huge difference in monitoring.
I agree that would be a great solution. The ARC Studio works great! I may also end up with Genelecs with GLM to replace my small second set of monitors.
Beautiful space, is there a link to your (recorded) music as well?
