  • If you ever heard that awful sound coming from the front of your wheel hubs, you probably experienced an issue with your IWE Check valve. A part so small has left people stranded on the trails. Sometimes the sound will go away if yoiweu placed the truck in 4A but best to do it in 4Hi to leave the hubs engaged, however, you don't want to drive on 4Hi for too long on dry pavement as it is not recommended.
There is a new updated part number for the IWE check valve from Ford, I suggest you keep a spare until they find a permanent solution for it.
    Ford Part number: FL3Z-3A788-B

2017 raptor with 19,800 miles started making grinding noises with acceleration at low speeds intermittently. Replacing this worked like a charm. Thanks again for the tip!

‘18 Raptor, just started this noise at 75k miles. Trip to Ford dealer and $32 later, I’m good to go! Thanks!

INCORRECT TEST METHOD: (see my own reply)
That test of 4wd doesn't actually prove a repair. It is necessary to DRIVE in 2wd and 4wd to verify the hubs are actually engaging and disengaging properly.
This can be done on dry pavement by cranking the steering wheel fully to one side and in 4wd. Next put it in drive and lightly press the gas petal. As soon as the truck starts to roll forward, remove your foot from the petal. If it comes to a stop and feels as if you're pressing the brakes, the front hubs are engaged.
Repeat this test in 2wd. This time however, when you remove your foot from the gas, the truck should roll naturally and not feel like you're pressing the gas pedal. Hope this helps! I'd hate for people to find out the hard way after getting stuck on the trail that the 4wd isn't actually fixed when they thought thought everything was working fine.

The dealer supposedly fixed my truck today but sure enough, I immediately drove through snow and the hubs wouldn't engage. eventually the fault message reappeared. Pre repair at least - some days I get the common random intermittent grinding noise common with this issue and already confirmed it's relating to the 4wd front locking hubs

@@none1705 I am sorry to inform you that you are not correct on your reply. I worked with a Ford Engineer and over 1300 Raptors in my group and our method is correct. We have not failed a diagnosis yet. The idea of the check valve is to make sure it is partially (Ready)engaged in 4A while fully engages in 4H. The partially engaged it is the quickest way to detect an issue or a leak in the system.

Mine does not make the vacuum noise when releasing... what does that mean?

Do you replace the solenoid too? If not when are you going to change it? How many miles or years? Thanks for sharing the video.

M R Pal didn’t need to replace it. The valve was fine as well, did it for preventative maintenance. I upgraded to the latest design by ford. There isn’t a typical mileage for failure, so I keep a spare with me. So far, I put about 15k miles on the new one and it’s fine.

can you put up a link where you bought that part? I called ford and they said it was 24 bucks instead of the 8 dollars you've stated. Thanks in advance!!!

Rico Win that’s a first. Every single person who bought it paid MSRP of 8.00 give or take. Use the part number and buy it off amazon. Make sure it’s the blue valve.

I've been getting a new noise at highway speeds when on the throttle that matches the intensity of the boost gauge. I posted about it on a raptor forum and someone said it could be this valve being faulty. Any thoughts?

Same problem, It makes sense because the vaccuum levels are low and the leak becomes enough to disengauge at that lack of negative pressure.
