Thanks! I was noticing a slight vacuum in the fuel tank when I would put the nozzle in at the pump and my 2012 F150 FX4 5L had a few issues when starting (it started, but the starter wouldn't disengage the first couple of times I tried. The next time, it had a hard start). I did the test you suggested and noticed a slight vacuum at the canister purge valve, indicating that the valve needed replacing. I was able to pick up the part straight away for just over $70CAD and installed it in the parking lot (all you need is a 1/4" drive and 8mm socket for the 2 bolts). I haven't ever installed or repaired anything myself on my truck, but it was a really quick and simple fix. Thank-you so much! Another question for you Car Doctor: would you have any pointers for why my fuel gauge is still reading a bit off? When I fill it all the way, it shows halfway between the 3/4 and full mark on the gauge. Thanks again!

Need some advice /help Dr or anyone else. I have a 1998 Chevy Tahoe it’s a crank no start. It has fuel(55 psi) and spark. It ran fine and then came out the next day to this. Was run low on gas the day before but filled it and it cranked fine at station. It makes a loud “ping” after about 2 seconds of cranking. Could this be distributor timing? I’m at a loss as to what to check next. Thanks

Purge valve is the name of the part I was trying to catch..your video is so helpful thanks so much..I spent 1500$ fixing the wrong problems .I bought two fuel pumps and oxygen sensor and gasket cover valve and I changed the spark plugs and air filter ..and still didn't fix the problem. I was so frustrated until I ran into your video and I replaced the purge valve and the problem was solved..thanks so much for being helpful I really appreciate it 🙏
Bummer. First do a battery disconnect reset and see what that does. Remember that resetting the KAM can cause drivability issues so be mindful of that for the first 20-30 miles in case of stalling at stops of weird shifts. If that doesn’t work you may have to look into the display interface module

Test the injector also. Compression OK? Cam issue?

The dorman IWE for these seem to work better than OE...strange.

Not sure I understand. Sounds like a good guy if he won’t let you pay him. Maybe the transfer case motor was a Chinese garbage part?

Sounds like a replacement valve would be a lot cheaper than ten days of diagnostic labor.
Did he just say it doesnt start and then to test it start it up??? Mine doesnt start. That's the problem after fueling.
