Love this episode. I can’t believe how nice this Nova is. I have a 1971 Nova sitting in the pole barn for over 20+ years. 2 door , 3 on tha tree. Been in my family since new. Your channel is getting me ready to get mine back on the road. Thank you for you sharing these experiences.
Really cool car. It reminds me of my 1971 Nova which was also a four door but had a 250. I abused that car but could never kill it. To this day it was one of my favorite cars that I have owned.
Bought brand new 51 years ago yesterday! 😎 That's awesome! Kinda surprised about how rotted the gas tank was. Probably a lot of water vapor in it. It's almost ready to get groceries again. 😅 Thanks for sharing!
The Smog/Malaise Era cars are the HOT project/build now, especially the muscle cars, because they are still cheap. For almost the price of a 72 or older Roller you can buy and build a 73-78 and build it and they don't care if it's a 2 door or 4 door because most people aren't doing full on builds. one of the 20 somethings I work with just bought a 75 Malibu 4 door, that runs and drives, he just going to clean it up and drive it. He and his wife have 2 small kids and we were talking about how expensive it was he had just paid off his car and I told him if he wanted to save even more money than go find a classic car and sell his car and use that money to clean it up, get it running really good and just drive it. He paid $1500 for the Malibu and it didn't need much more than a a deep cleaning, some new fluids, gaskets, new shocks and ball joints and a new paint job. He sold his 2018 charger for 13k, the mechanical stuff is done and were getting ready to roll it in my shop next weekend and throw a Oliver Green tractor paint paint job on it and he hasn't even spent half of the 13k he sold his Charger for, and that includes the $1500 he paid for the car. I;m glad this new generation is doing stuff like this.
There good sleeper's. I wouldn't mind getting my hands on a Rare 153 4cyl version only like 4 5 on UA-cam that I seen probably just as Rare on the street.
Man that is really cool, that thing runs like brand new, I'm like you, i think that's the original miles.....I wouldn't be afraid to drive it anywhere, great job as always 👍👍👍👍👍✅✅✅✅✅
That's great! I knew my Grandpa bought those Nova's for a reason! He had at least three of them. All Blue! LOL. Funny that he had three that were almost identical. Same type and within three years of each other too. He'd sell one then buy another blue one and then kept the third one until he passed away!
Put some fresh gas in the tank. It will probably help to have some fresh gas that's more volatile to keep it running. Great video, save the classics. Kudos to you for taking the time to get her running again. Blessings. 😊
So awesome watching this sitting here in Hamilton County! I love the ice scraper collection she had 😆. I swear I've seen that other 4 door Nova driving around town before!
Back in 94, my sister bought a 73 307 4 door Nova off a car lot with 38k miles. I think she paid $2,995 for it. I drove it and it was like stepping back into 1973. It was mint.
I had the same yr 4 door at 17 always regeted getting rid of it I had it repainted and the neighbor built up the 305 in it I loved that car then got a 4 door Malibu
Back in 1990 my aunt gave me one of these it was brown with black interior a 250 6 cylinder powerglide automatic transmission. I drove it for about three years before I sold it for 800 bucks. It was really nice and also one of the deepest regrets I still have to this day I should have kept it.😮
In my home town there was a little old lady that had a dark green 1970 Nova that was a 4 door and her and her husband bought it new in late 1969 and drove it all the years but never in winter or in rain and after her husband died in the mid 80's she would only use it to go to get food and go to church and back in 1997 or 98 I knocked on her door to see if she would sell it and she said the boy next door was going to get it because he would do a bunch of things for her and he liked the car that she promised him the car but it was a real clean car and that 1973 Nova reminded me of the 70 4 door Nova a lil old lady had in my hometown.
I really like the 73-74 Nova's. That is neat that it's a nova custom. Prolly pretty rare and no power steering and no power brakes. Back then, everything was an option. All I can say is keep it original as possible. ❤
Lucked out on it being a small block car. Every crew cab nova I ever bought was a straight six. I picked up quite a few for scrap in the 90s, and they were almost exclusively sixes.
While I am generally a ford guy, it is still great to see this old chevy back on the road. I have to agree those old chevy small blocks are good motors.
@@HotRodHoarder I remember I searched and found a 51 caddy.... was a buddy of mine grandpas car ... I asked him to keep me in mind when he sold it .. finally it was gone... days later I asked my buddy and he gave me the guilty look and told me I'm sorry dude he didn't want to sell it to me ....AND GUESS WHY?....
When starting a engine that hasnt been started in 31 years make sure never to pull the plugs and squirt oil or marvel down the cyl and let it soak. That way the rust on the rings and cylinders will score and destroy the rings and cylinder walls and help seat them in properly .Never crank over after oil in clyinders with plugs out and get oil pressure either that way you will score the bearings and score them too when the engine fires up .This will help with proper bearing seating and increase clearance between the 50 year old rod bearings and crank journals . Good job !
Kyle is planning on driving it often. He also has a green Pontiac Ventura four door and a green Buick Apollo four door in similar condition so he has some choices haha.
You should purchase a plastic 5-gallon outboard motor boat fuel tank with a floater gauge and a hose with the primer ball on it for all of these projects. Just a thought they work and very useable and safe.😮
My '73 307 had a feature that most don't know>>1.94 intake valves instead of the 1.72. They used 350 heads on most if not all since it was the last year for the 307.
My Aunt Letha's last car was a 74 Nova like this with a straight 6 she always said it was butterscotch in color. She traded her 63 Chevy Bel Air 2 speed power glide straight 6 in on it which she had also bought new.
Defrosters didn't work very well back than and cars usually didn't have a rear defroster, except for the old style blower mounted below the package tray ordered. So you needed to have plenty of ice scrapers on hand because they'd often break while trying to scrape the ice off your windows
Probably so. I asked my neighbor if he knew who offered Atlas products locally and he said our Chevron station here in Dayton offered them back in the day.
I'm surprised you have brakes because the flex lines usually swell up and will let fluid in but not let it out and is it 4 wheel drum brakes or is it discs in front and drum in the rear?
So back in 93 I should have parked Grandmaw's 75 Nova under the car port instead of selling it for $300? No rust, a little bondo drivers door. 20,000 miles on the odometer (Know it was 120,00 as I was driving it and told the grandkid it was a new car.) 6 cyl. 4 door, broken hood spring and dead battery tires bald. I remember breaks at 80,000 water pump at 90,000 spark plugs once or twice. Wonder where that car is now?
Haha these old Novas aren’t worth a ton of money but they sure are cool. I wish we could stumble across a ‘69 Camaro or ‘63 Corvette but these old four door Novas will have to do for now.
Our neighbor who was a 98yo woman had one of these, four door, pillow in the front seat ( she was 4’8” ) and a 327 😂 I would drive her to the store in it and she’d say “ Give it some gas! “ Every year she’d brush on a new coat of oil based green house paint 😬
I tried (a little bit) to find the Stella Clark whom is mentioned as a previous owner of this car, but there are a few Stella Clarks whom lived in Tennessee, and two of them died in 2017. Stella Clark is a popular name in Tennessee. I thought I had the correct Stella Clark, but then a couple of others popped up on the radar.
You put forth a wonderful presentation. Your not loud and obnoxious like most presenters. Also you know how to your hat, forward. If you wear your hat backwards you automatically present yourself as a idiot.
It may not be the fuel pump it could be the needle valve in the cab is stuck closed so it won't allow any fuel into the bowl you got to take a hammer or handle end of a screwdriver and tap on that carb to loosen the needle and float up
Do you know where I can get a new quarter panel for my 69 4 door nova? It was my great grandmas old blue nova but it needs a new quarter panel. If anyone could point me to a web site that sales them I would be great full. This is a beautiful car. I love the green.
Probably so. I'm not so worried about the old oil...it's probably better than most new oil these days. But yeah, I should've squirted some oil in the cylinders and let it sit for a little bit.
Stupidest thing I've ever seen subjecting your daughter to what could have happened; Was it worth it? I'm glad you got the 73 Nova going, But I would have never taken that chance with my daughter, & if something had happened You would have never forgiven yourself.
Stella made it to 78 years old. Bless her.
Good to see another nova saved.
Yes! These Novas have been good to me. I’ve worked on several of them and they just seem to cooperate.

1968-72 Novas have skyrocketed in value over the past 20 years. Almost breaks my heart.
Congrats and put her on the channel! 🤙
You absolutely should get it back on the road .
Dude why not do it cars are better when they are used and not sitting.
That 73 Nova wants to live. A easy start for you. Congrats! Your friend should be thrilled. Thanks for sharing .
💯👍
Definitely the easiest project I’ve ever had. Glad to have an easy one after a bad batch of projects here.
73-74 Novas are underappreciated.
Agreed. The big bumper cars don’t get much love but I’m a fan of any old Nova.
No mice or snakes, said with his head six inches away from a hornets nest 🤣 Thank you for reviving this car and the great video! 😊😊

Love the nova 4 door runs like it was shut off yesterday
Great job looking forward to seeing progress
The Nova runs great,it wouldn't take much to get it road worthy.Great video
Nothing says 1970s like a green Nova and squishy grapes!

Cool 😎 car! Cool story of its history and much loving the video...❤! 😊🎉

Cool. Did you buy it from Steve? Mrs Clark passed away in 2017
I believe Kyle (the cars owner) spoke with Mrs. Clark’s son at some point. Maybe that was Steve? Not sure.
You got it to run! Awesome job
I want to buy it
Stick to cars and cars alone! That's what got you here! Just want to say this so you can still post more great videos!!!
Love the car and nice paint when opening up the trunk
You present a priceless trager video I hope you keep doing like these kind of video God bless
I had a 69 Nova blue with a 250 had it high school was good car clean.
The Nova was a very reliable car. Simple, easy to work on
That's part of the reason why I love them. Easy and cheap to work on.

Cool ole Nova. I used to discriminate against a car with so many doors, but I dont anymore.
I'd love to get ahold of that for 1500-2000, but something tells me this car probably traded in the 3k range. Maybe more. It's a jewel none the less.
Same here…used to dislike 4 doors but they’re definitely growing on me.

All GM steering wheels become sticky after sitting for a few years it must be what ever they are made with because they are all like it
18:46 Thats how cars starts in horror movies 😂
Transparent WIX fuel filters are very good for these vehicles that have questionable fuel systems. Easy to see how clean the system is.
Don't run the gas line over the fender. Keep it low run, it under the car to the pump.
Definitely not the ideal fuel setup but it worked ok as a temporary fix.

Nope you didn’t miss it. It had oil in it and it was good enough for a few miles.
@HotRodHoarder I did watch it twice and thx for responding. Been looking for a 71 6cyl with a manual 3 on the tree nova forever
How many cylinders?
I had a 1977 Model.
One cool old Nova she don't look her age
Very well preserved considering it wasn’t kept inside a garage. She’s a beaut!
O yeah she was still a beautiful car
Need to remove exhaust runners from emission system and plug with pipe fitting plugs, remove air pump.

That’s the last year GM made any thing good after 40 of being a GM tech retired now these new GM are poorly made
It's the same with all car manufacturers not just GM.

lol this grandma Nova would be lucky to spin the tires in a puddle of oil.
No seatbelts...safety third. Jesus take the wheel! Am I right?
So, it was driven 19 or so years, then parked for over 30.

Not impressed picking up your kid in a shit box, no restrains and sitting next to a container of fuel
I don't know about driving around with a child and a gas can in the vehicle or am I seeing things.
It's definitely not the safest approach. But it would be a lot less fun if we did everything by the book.
