I apologise if I cause any offence. That isn't my intention. Is the audio *a single unedited take?* If it is, maybe make the description clearer. "All parts played simultaneously on one acoustic guitar" seems to leave ambiguity. The video looks like 4 takes plus drone. I assume the audio was recorded in a studio, and the video is mimed. No disrespect meant, but this feels a bit 'over staged', like some 'Marcin' videos. Otherwise - BRILLIANT! 👏 Best Wishes. ☮
Yes, it is. The audio is from the CD. Played on one guitar means, that there are not two guitars in the audio and the drums are not recorded seperatally. He plays it live with no playback. Hope it helps. Cheers Lars.
I saw both guitarrists: Michael Hedges in the eighties and Mike last year live in Germany. Michael played as support of Suzanne Vega! He was phantastic and I think Mike is right the same in his own way of playing acoustic music, a gifted musician!
I was also lucky enough to see Hedges twice in Baltimore. The last time was within a few weeks of his passing. RIP. I'm enjoying @mikedawesofficial's Truefire content and hoping to see him next time he's through these parts.
Brilliant artist and entertainer. Physically, I've never seen anyone with hands the size of Michael Jordan AND with 7 joints per finger--or so it seems. Cannot imagine the amount of talent and pure hard work it takes to pull off half of what Mr. Dawes does.

Brought a tear to my eye. Incredible music, connecting to the deepest seat of one’s soul. Thank you for your wonderful creation and inspiring us fellow musicians 🙏
Before arthritis ruined my hands I played guitar in college in the coffee house. I played because it made my spirit feel lighter. Now, I listen to the likes of you half a century later, and I feel like I did in college. Thank you ❤
I was too young to be able to follow Michael Hedge's career but I can be content knowing that his amazing legacy has never died... and his spirit lives on

Such an amazing talent for such a young man. Mike’s feel for the music is so very special. That isn’t something you can be taught, it’s something you already possess. Thank you Mr. Dawes for sharing your very special musical gift with all of us.
What an azz-kick'n way to wake up & start our Friday morning! Awesome, unique arrangement- and we even have the Watchtower Sentinels standing guard in the surf.
I'm not putting this man down - I wish I could play like him. But if you want want someone who could be classified as "pinnacle of acoustic guitar artistry", I think Marcin is up in the stratosphere while us mortals are standing on the crust. If you haven't already, you need to see some Marcin - even if modern-classical isn't your jam I'm sure you'd appreciate his prodigal talents.
@@mikedawesofficial Just realized that could sound different from what I meant which is that... music is not a competition.😁 You and Hedges and Tibbets and Kaki are all in my playlist! Cheers!
Michael Hedges (RiP), look at what your trailblazing has brought forth...I literally burst into tears. The incomparable Mike Daws' monumental solo instrumental rendition of the most darkly dangerous, frieghtning, poignant, and eternally true 12 lines of Rock 'N Roll poetry. As true today as when Dylan adapted them, then Hendix magically wailed them all those years ago; delivered with today"s fresh ugency, within a sublime harmonic sensibility, as only Mike Daws can. This, is as good as it gets folks; Truly. Bravo! Cheers y'all 🍻
Notes of Hedges beautifully and eerily woven within this composition........ it's like listening to the near silence of a dynamically burning Tallow candle in the darkest of rooms and knowing that there's something just beyond the light that you can feel ....but just can't see. Wonderfully done......
Maybe Mike is the best acoustic player of this generation. His technique is is beyond amazing, paired with a great sense of musicality and dynamics. Not to mention that this version here is best possible to imagine as pure acoustic solo interpretation. Fantastic.
Skogafoss❤ one of my dream destinations. I know this place has been photographed a gazillion times, but I still want to go there and photograph it, and witness it with my own eyes. And Mike, you are one of the musicians that inspire me to pick up my guitar every single day, no matter how much I suck and feel like quitting. Awesome cover!
I never heard of this guitarist until about 5 minutes ago and am blown away. I have been playing guitar since 1959 and truly love all forms of acoustic guitar music and I wonder if he uses standard tuning.
When I got the guitar flash drive and T-shirt from you at the Coach House out here in SoCal, Mike, I very much appreciated how accessible you were.....not full of yourself. Peace and good health to and those you hold dear. And I wish you all the success you want.
My son, husband, and I were lucky enough to see a Michael Dawes concert in Concord, New Hampshire, USA a couple of years ago! He’s definitely a talented guitarist!❤
Mesmerizing... Epic... Grandiose... The greatest song writer of all time, the most inventive acoustic player ever, from what looks to be the most 'special' locations on the planet! Is this the greatest performance ever? IMHO, it might be. Bravo!
from the very first frame, i could tell that it was Skogafoss in Iceland. Probably the "most waterfall-esque" waterfall in the world. I swear it's exactly how a kid would draw a waterfall. Absolutely stunning scenery and music to boot
Saw Michael Hedges at The Ark (Ann Arbor) so many years ago. What a surreal experience. Michael drove in front of Ark and said some akin to "The Belfy Tower...onward" Mike's playing of this tune brings back those memories. Amazing what triggers our mems from those hidden caverns in mind. You rock Mike D.
Learned this piece painstakingly by watching Rick's interview video.. Soo happy to see official release Mike..I'd play this song to infinity.. it carries so much emotion..

Awesome 👍. I wonder this song in electric guitar or like in rock version, I think it'll be good as well. Hope someone will cover it and make a new version of this song
I LOVE the artistry of this video. The locations, ocean swells and video cuts add to the majesty of the piece, making this a transcendent experience. Thank you.
Bravo Mike!!! Ya know, why is it that there are certain people that just put you in awe of their talent and make you feel suspended in time just watching them do their thing on whatever they do? I've been a big fan of Mike Dawes for years and some of his songs are great. But when the chimes hit perfectly like with this song you see and feel the majesty that only he could play this his way. So enjoy a one of a kind display of magic folks.

I was lucky enough to see Hedges play this twice live. I like that this is close enough to be an homage but different enough to be something new.
Extremely jealous. I'm glad you like the homage
I also thought of Hedges and to me no one else has played it as inspiringly until now.
