All Along The Watchtower: You've Never Heard It Like This #10!
Here is my version of All Along The Watchtower written by Bob Dylan but I have based it on the Jimi Hendrix version. This is such a classic and a real favourite of mine. I have performed this songs more times than I can remember. I am using my RC-30 Loop Pedal in this one too, just to add something a bit different.
I hope you enjoy it! And, as always, Hit that 'Like' button, Subscribe to the channel and leave a comment below.

Thank You so much 🙌
Excellent
I did
Thank you much Jay this is wonderful!. I would love to also hear your own compositions - you know you have it in you. Much love!
In my library! Thanks for the link!
Bob Dylan wrote and recorded this song, HIS WAY! Jimi Hendrix covered it , HIS WAY! Hundreds of artists since then have tried to replicate Hendrix, which ain't gonna happen 'bro. This guy covered the tune, HIS WAY!. Although his playing evokes the direction that Hendrix took the song in, He's NOT trying to be Hendrix, just projecting his Soul into his own passionate rendition. Good Job!
after bob did it jimi's way
" EXACTLY"
@@jorgegonzalez-larramendi5491 bob IS just a HORRIBLE sounding performer, one of the worst ive ever heard......j.m.o.
"It's Jimi's song, I just wrote it" - Bob Dylan
Dave Mason did it too, also his way! This version is fabulous!
ANYBODY who can play a guitar like that deserves respect
Amen! Talented man!
Can you imagine if he wrote cool Jesus tunes!
I’m 70 listened to every rendition there is.this is pure music and soul.sing on I’m going to listen to this again
The folks that believe music is dead need to hear this original approach to classic sound. They will find they have been sorely mistaken.
Absolutely brilliant!!!!!
Music NEVER dies!!! NEVER!!!!!
There are thousands of amazing singers out in the world, that we will never hear, and I was lucky enough, to run across this video and enjoy this musical artist.👍
Makes a person wonder how much amazing talent was lost to history before technology made reaching an audience such a simple task.
Beautifully said. ✌
Dylan.... well, what can be said, but, DYLAN? But this brother has the chops for sure. He can cover the MEN who did it all in the beginning any time wants!
So true
Thank you and I posted it myself
I put I'm feeling this, so I'm going share it for you to feel it too.....
I am 68 years old, and when I thought that I couldn’t possibly hear another awesome version of my “all time” favorite song, you came along to prove me wrong!! Fabulous rendition! Just love it! Thank you!

I am 68 too, and I agree 100%
That was the best cover I’ve heard… this bloke truly put his own stamp on it.
great guitar work as well, he made it sing and growl ..
@@John-hc8zx Same here ...
I'm with you, Jeffrey. I'm 69.
The thing about music is that it makes people feel something….the thing about artistry is that you pour your feelings into it to make people feel something….I’m 66 years old and I felt something new watching and listening to you play this iconic song your way.
Me too, I felt something new and something so, so, old... Something I've been feeling since I first heard music, great music. This is that. Great!
I echo your feelings and thoughts on this. I felt it! ✌️😎
Jesus dude, you faw king KILLED IT! I honestly would never believe that this song could be covered with one acoustic guitar, a looper and one voice. But you showed us that it could. Kudos, kudos, kudos

I was hoping to see a comment that would confirm that it was acoustic, and not an electric guitar in the style of an acoustic 😅 I'm slow lol
If you're going to cover a song you must OWN it. This gentleman indeed did.
Lol, he doesn't even know the lyrics :') But he has a good voice.
@@arnogoossens9892 Dude.. he knows the lyrics. The lyrics are simple (and legendary) compared to the rest of the song. This is HIS cover. Lots of people make a song theirs in all sorts of ways.
Absolutely 👍
when i played i called that "getting in the zone "🎸💊
Well said man
The number one mistake I have seen people make when covering All Along the Watchtower is that they try and do the Hendrix version. the only right one to do it is to make it your own.
This guy made it his own, and to that I say: Well done sir!
I agree this is a great Version of the song 🎶. But it just makes me miss the great Jimmy Hendricks
It's funny you say that because I've always thought Stevie Ray Vaughn played jimi Hendrix better than Jimi Hendrix lol
I would say Michael Winslow played Jimi Hendrix better than Jimi Hendrix.
I prefer Bobby's version. Just because of i fond of Bobby
I only know one person who can do justice to Hendrix AATW and that is Vince Martin. This guy, Jay, did a great job!
What an excellent rendition of one of my all-time favorites. I am now 66. Thank you young man.
" Out Fucken Standing OMG ! " I'm Standing for full ovation applauds !!! A Star !!!
Sir, I am almost 70 years of age and lived in the era of Hendrix, Joplin ,Santana, Dylan and others who made raw gutsy music not the crap that is passed off as music today. You absolutely smashed it, I felt every word and note. You did proud to the song, Jimmy and most of all yourself. I look forward to hearing more from you. From the land down under
I gotcha pal, I was a teenager at that time but old enough to hold it dearly
I’m 71 and I totally agree with everything you said …. This guy is up there with the greats from than ….
Totally took that song - which some tremendous artist have played -. And he totally owns it !!!!!
He’s got me hooked- can’t wait to hear more of his stuff.
Man I'm 15
You sure got it right there, this is one of my favourite songs,so many great bands from this era.
Right on
Somewhere Jimi said “fuck yeah”🤙
Or Dylan...
I mean it is a Dylan song. He never did it this good though.
i sure did
And you know he is !
Jimi & Bob are smiling for sure. When you write a song and lay your guts and soul out there. It's scary. And you never know if it will be accepted. Thank you to the songwriters who put it all out there on the line. The world is so much better because of what you do. Thank you
Wow! It’s like Dylan and Hendrix meet Joe Cocker, yet it’s unique on its own. Fantastic!
He sings and plays in his way. Nailed it…
True
So funny how people who have never felt the deep emotion of performing a masterpiece so soulful look upon someone bravely letting their heartfelt feelings shine through with a sincere honesty as if that performer is faking his facial expressions. Forgive those shallow fools who think everyone is like them and since they have never experienced such a deep connection with all the haunting lyrics and harmonics created by a master songsmith they think no one could possibly be experiencing something they themselves have never experienced.
This performance was from the heart with real soul baring honesty. Great to see anyone feel anything so deeply. Well done.
Jealousy.
Right on man!
✌️
that word.. Songsmith.. Just sais it all
I totally agree! As a frustrated musician, I can relate to that moment in time when you finally get it right, and your self expression comes through.... It feels magical. And this was magical for him, as was for me.
If he has to look like he is smelling the absolute worst fart ever passed to create this sound than it is certainly worth it.

Magic. Inspired. Humbled. You are music. Bob + Jimi + “yes, and….” = thank you
WHAT THE WHAT!? Excellent! At 64 years old now, you youngin's give me hope.
Thanks mate!
This guy is amazing. Why doesn't the whole world know who he is ? What a talent.
The world listens to dumb shit from stupid people.
it's weird but technical ability or virtuoso playing does not mean much really. It's that magical mixture of songwriting, charisma, performance etc. If you could write an instruction book then we could all do it! Take the Beatles or say the Stones (my generation!!) none of them could be called virtuoso players by any means - very capable with great timing as a unit but they have that "something else" that only really great performers have. Huge talent that transcends us lesser mortals! The internet is just bursting with amazingly talented musicians, thousands of them. Look at the old blues players, Big Bill, Sun House (sun house a uniquely crazy technique!), Howling wolf. It's not really about playing skills though that helps!

Hendrix made "All Along the Watch Tower" his own to such an extent that Dylan adopted it in his own live shows. To tackle the same song and hope to achieve something equivalent is to say the least, foolhardy. But, let's be fair. You have achieved the impossible. Both Dylan and Hendrix would be deeply impressed.
it is a Dylan song.
@@lazarusdoghouse I believe he’s saying Dylan adopted some of those changes in live performances later on bc of just how well he thought Hendrix did
Yeah I didn't think a Dylan but yes he has a dylanesque..sound in his voice for sure!

Dylan wrote this masterpiece... Not Jimmy by the way is also a masterpiece! 😎✌
Every guitarist and their brother-in-law has covered that one. But yours, sir, stands out. I see you... salute.

Stepping into the footsteps of Dylan and Hendrix is no easy task, yet here you give a rendition that singularly cements your version historically into the legend of this song for all eternity!
You sir are a talent beyond compare!

Never heard this guy before but man,,, dude killed this song. It’s bad what you hear on the radio these days and then theres this guy. Well done my friend
Are you on of those "i was born too late" type of 14year olds?
Idiot.
The radio has definitely been going downhill unfortunately. Only ever playing crap more then half the time
Best version of this song I've ever heard.
Wow what a talent. We should have real musicians like you on radio instead of the boring soulless trash we are inundated with these days.
Right ... But it's to late , radio killed itself long ago , , , it's on a ventilator .
It's all about the emotions in these songs, not the vocal gymnastics and recording compression of ANY modern song
hell yeaaaaaa
True, so true!
@@skippymaster57 I haven't heard much vocal gymnastics in modern 'music'. All I hear is talentless idiots who can hardly speak let alone sing. What is missing is singers who can sing instead of using autotune and songs with more than 3 notes repeated over and over and interesting chord changes instead of the same old 4 chords repeated over and over and musical instruments instead of computer noises and good lyrics instead of debased trash. This is what happens when you let the satanic monsters take over the music industry.
I'd never heard of Jay Howie before. However he has blown me away. He is amazing . Can't stop listening to him. I love his voice. And guitar playing. I'm now a big Fan! ❤

No way fool not much going on while he's singing just another guy using sloop pedal
Hendricks was the best left-handed guitar player...
I'd say different, not better, just the one that most appeals to my type of person. But I love them all. It is a song that people personality can so easily imprint upon. It fits everyone who sings it.. And hears it.... And it combines with the singers and musicians and us to put us all into the one experience. This artist does it the most fully with me. My music....
Look at him!! Thats what Music is for!!! AMAZING AND WONDERFUL!!!🗣
Pure talent, some just have it. The rest of us just watch in awe.
What passes for 'talent' these days is beyond me. The airwaves are filled with such vapid and vacuous drivel. Yet here you are, along with so many others, going unnoticed by a major record label. l would, damn sure, buy tickets to hear you perform, and if l had my own record company, l'd sign you Quick, Fast and in a Hurry!
People buy it so airwaves play it. We can break the chain anytime we want. Its called online listening just like we doing here. Its about choices not blame. Seek your level or accept what they keep slinging as music.
Well, an industry is never about talent but about money. Sad fact.
@@underdoggoethe8971 Can't agree. An industry without an eye on talent will not be an industry long. Money dominates but right now Angelina Jordan is on the roster of Republic Records and the world knows she is talented and has earned millions for charities especially childrens. Advertisers are doing well off her half a billion internet views. She may be the exception but others do exist, we just dont know about them yet.
Have you seen his number of subscribers? If he has a patron channel he is killing. Just because you sign with a record label does not mean you are making money. For every big name we hear there are thousands who were used as one hit wonders and tossed away. Check out the movie with tom hanks and liv tyler called THAT THING YOU DO and the movie THE FIVE HEARTBEATS. Not documentaries but in the course of the movie a lot is revealed about the record industry. Then and now.
Well said. Damn right.
I'm 67 years old and I've been playing guitar since i was five. I know guitar! I also know other guitar players when they are good. ...I mean TRULY good! Dude, you have impressed the absolute hell out of me with the your singing, your lead guitar playing and your excellent technique with your looper. I keep coming back to this video and watching it over and over and over again. It's just that good! I've showed this video to all the guys in my band and told them that THIS is what we need to sound like. I love this song and I love love love the cover that you've done here. And.... I've learned a lot just from watching it repeatedly.
David, your comments really resonated with me. I'm 53, have played guitar, bass, drums, and sing some most of my life. YES! This cover just blew me away. Absolutely breathtaking. But also, when I read that you have bandmates, it really stoked the fire in me to pick it back up. To get back into jamming with some other people. My best friend Rick(guitar player), who I jammed with since age 14, died 4 years ago and I allowed that death to consume me. I shut it down. Got bad off into addictions. Now that i've come through that, i'm ready to dust off my Les Paul, lol. Your comments inspired me today. Thank you David. God bless you, my brother.🎸🎶❤☺🙏👍
@@heavyjoechipman3594 I'm glad my words moved you in a positive direction. I wasn't expecting to do that and so, your reply comes as a nice surprise. There have been a few times when i went for a while without playing. I had a heart attack and open heart surgery right before the pandemic. I was in a coma for about six weeks while laying on my left arm. By the time I got out of the coma and into rehab, my left arm and hand had suffered a lot of nerve damage and a tremendous loss of strength. I didn't think I'd ever play the guitar again. But fortunately, little by little, it all came back. I had to rebuild my callouses and get my left hand back to normal. I'm glad I put in the effort. We guitar players form a community of like minded people and I'm glad to be a part of it.

something strange with music. Sometimes you go on the web you are guided to this kind of artist, here, goin' out from i don't know, but a real pure and true artist. A vocal to make your skin thrills, a guitar's touch that even the dear Knopfler would sure love and envy.
@Jay you are a pure and talented guy. We can feel all of your soul in this song.
Thanks for this moment... :)
Thank you so much mate! I really appreciate it!
Jay plays down my local pub..great live performer…and a Gentleman to boot.
Wheres that Christine? This guy is dope!
instead he should play in a stadium, with 100000 people, misteries of life...
@melodiepage1315 Jay is based out of Bendigo in Victoria (Australia)
Sometimes I just love the UA-cam algorithms that lead me to musicians I wouldn’t normally get to hear. This man is so talented and have subscribed so I don’t miss anything he does in the future ❤️🇺🇸. Love from Texas
👍🥃🇨🇦
Yup!
I love this song so much and this version is outstanding. Thank you, I've never heard a version of it so many times❤
Alright now we're talkin' one of my all time fav, done by another musical genius! Can't say it's better than Dylan or Hendrix but it's easily as good! Brilliance!!! Never want to stop listening to this genius rendition! Bravo, BRAVO!!!
I hope that there are more renditions of other songs to come. This generation needs to see and feel what passionate soulful music is. It’s not just words rhythm bass or beat. It’s men and women musicians (muso’s) like this man who show there emotions and feelings. That give music a soul.

This is what happens when music is mixed with emotion and imagination. Brilliant, Brilliant, Brilliant.
I have been a life long fan of Jimmy (and have the age for it) but I think this version by Jay is the ultimate! You really feel the passion of this guitar virtuoso. Absolutely brilliant, have played it over and over again. As other people have commented: simply glorious!
That guitar man. 😮goosebumps
Incredible performance.... the man's fingers must like iron to bend and tremolo a steel string acoustic like that.... just awesome!
I listened to this song a hundred times played from a little battery powered turntable over in Vietnam in the central highlands when I came back off the field. I loved it every time I heard it and still think Jimmie Hendrix was an exceptional artist to create and play the hell out of his music. This artist, although not the creator of this music, is also an exceptional artist.
God Bless You.
Hendrix didn't write this song either 😑
Another Bob Dylan song redone with a tasteful touch. ✌🏻
Thank you for your service. My dad is a Vietnam vet as well… 82nd airborne
I think you're remembering a movie lol
This guy is GOOD with a capitol G! Lovely guitar sound. Great song (Dylan, say no more). Beautiful lead.
You are amazing, man! So happy to be aquainted with your work!!! 🌹❤️🌹..🇨🇦
Man is beyond talented. Half the people out there dont have half the talent he has.
I really wasn't ready for this. Some executive should record and promote this. OMG what an awesome job. All the feeling he needed to do an awesome job. If you told me he wrote it I would not argue at all. And the guitar was icing on the cake. I thought i was back in time
Thank you so much!!
Word!
I was just thinking of how good this would be with a real drummer, and bass!
Why? Its 60 years old?
@@randallscott6 in English Literature it is referenced to as rhetoric and imagery. Isn't literal but satirical
Better than Kenny and everyone else... Bravo my brother... Love and peace from Manchester UK
It took 50 years for someone to make a better version of All Along The Watchtower: But Jay did it. I do not know if Jay's version can be eclipsed.
As a professional musician I have never heard a cover of this that I could even stand to listen to ... let alone enjoyed but.... WOW , your take on it is truly amazing !!!
hey Check out Leonid and Friends. they do some brilliant covers of Chicago. Better almost. (I know...lol but they are session musicians)
What ?! Have you not heard Hendrix’s version ?!!?
I'm really getting into the talent so many have been giving us through UA-cam.
Sometimes, like this, it's almost like a new tune that just came out.
Awesome talent here!
@@richardj9016 I have played it, heard it, mixed it. No can top Hendrix's version.
@@left-wingprophet4775 Pat Buchanan’s version is worth a listen.
You are in a class of your own. This is one of the greatest renditions of this epic classic I've ever heard. Fantastic job
Listening to this many times in the past three years, this is a great performance.
