I was just going to watch one of your old videos as a refresher on how to make a proper class and discover you just posted a guide 7 hours ago! WE SAIL FOR THE KINGDOM OF DAGGERFALL!!!
Thank you for this guide. I've seen some growing interest in Daggerfall lately and I love it. DF is one of my fav games of all time since 1996. The atmosphere, music and the mechanics in the game are soothing. I've been watching your DF content since the beginning (original Dosbox version with the lovely sound FX bugs and 12+ hours videos) . Planning to rewatch your Whispers in Shadow, Sas-i runs. Continue whatever you are doing and never change (love the occasional salt mining).
its funny how nowadays we have the abitlity to play games that are near life like in graphics but honestly I couldnt care less. I would rather play daggerfall with Morrowind graphics, hell just how it is vanilla is fine to me. The game just has a lot of content to it. I mean yeah you need to use your imagination quite a bit but thanks to the unity version a lot of variation and graphical enhanced sprites make the game up to modern standards. Top tier game in my book.
I so miss the size of cities, regions, and countries. Love Skyrim, but by god Whiterun should be SO much bigger with hundreds of people, houses, and businesses. Riverwood wouldn’t even be a town in Daggerfall, might qualify as a “house” on the overland map. Lol
@@dennismokry258 You should have seen my face when I first saw Winterhold in Skyrim. For years the games (more the lore but yeah) hyped up how it was a Nord city of legend. With a magical college, a place of advanced magical learning in SKyrim. And then in the game its sunk into the sea. Not even a ruin to be found. and 4 buildings one of which is an inn... Skyrims cities were pathetic. Hands down the best city in a game ever: Novigrad from the Witcher. I think only Kingdom Come Deliverance 2 will come close or even top it.
I have no idea how the algorithm knew I was thinking about this game; but dang, now I'll finally be able to complete more than 2 quests and my dude won't be hitting people with a wet noodle
Even though I know (almost) all the things you've spoken of here... for some reason, I loved hearing you gab it about it anyway! Great video, and you gave some great recommendations. Cheers!
Very nice Zaric, really appreciate your effort put into the guide and taking the time to organize it. Updated new player guides for older games are low in supply
sick video dude yet again you prove yourself to be the definitive source for getting into these games as a new player. i still remember finally breaking through on daggerfall because of the old video you made before DFU existed.
Zaric... love your stuff. Recently got into DF in large part to your older start guide and - I love this game... thank you for helping get my foot in the door! I've listened to most of your other stuff at this point too. All hail the GOAT. Lol also - Climbin that big ass mountain and X WING guy - "Allllmooosttt, there..... Allmosssst There...."
Ha, Ironic Zharic. I was just watching your older Daggerfall Videos a week or so ago and decided to give it a try again and now you go and upload this. Much appreciated. -
Thank you for this!!!! I've started playing Morrowind because of you, and always love catching a stream of yours! You're a great person and I love your vids! Thanks for your commitment to helping people get into these great games; you're 1 of 1!!
Bro I was just thinking about playing this game again, I type Daggerfall into the UA-cam search bar, and the first thing that pops up is a 9 hour old video from Zaric? Based.
Great video! Thanks for the effort, man. I wasn’t expecting to find such an amazingly detailed guide. I have recently started a Unity Daggerfall play through and this is invaluable video to have prepared. ❤
I am subscribed to this channel since about 5 years now... and I still think, the absolute best thing about it is the fact you wear a tie just like you wear glasses.
If you can use restoration, get the critical weakness to paralysis, then get the free action spell. It’s the cheapest spell to cast and it completely neglects paralysis.
I'd advise any Elder Scrolls fan to give this a go. Daggerfall is actually easy to get into with the fixes. You can download beautiful textures too if that is your thing.
What you said about talking to everyone in the main quest reminded me of my recent playthrough: I was already level17, so way higher level than I needed, and I thought I did everything, but the second to last quest didn't unlock. What happened was that I forgot to talk to the maid in Castle Daggerfall and do her quest chain. That chain unlocks at level 5. Whoops.
love the advantage/disadvantage system, since I never bother with magic, I disable generation of it in light and dark, and get immunity to paralysis and disease, two of the most annoying afflictions
I remember thinking what amazingly large games we'd have one day when playing this, with more unique places. Still waiting. D: There are excellent more modest attempts, but for single player rpgs I don't know if anything since made the true attempt of full interconnectivity + size. Also climbing, still so rare and ever since this game I've always wanted it just for rp feels. I never came close to finishing this game - an orc warlord got stuck in a wall, and then my save got corrupted. I should probably give the modern way a go. :)
I had way more problems getting into Daggerfall than getting into Arena. Thank you for helping us new players get into the game. My question would be, what's the worst, hardest and most difficult class in the game?
I love the fact that you’re still making these guides. Daggerfall, along with Morrowind, are the TES games that have captured me the most in recent years, each for completely different reasons. Hopefully guides like yours will help get more people into it.
For people allergic to pixels there is also DREAM mod that replaces the textures but its not for everyone's taste, some enemies look blurred with the upscaled textures but the environments are beautiful.
Then there’s also the linguist bard. Run around charming enemies into fighting each-other for your friendship. Very difficult early game, but ends up being a blast
I wish there were more Daggerfall guides on the platform, like a werewolf and vampire guides, for example, it’s a great game, but without much video content out there
#1 tip, focus on 2 spell schools, and get access to item Enchanting asap. If you have Spell Absorb an AoE damage fatigue effect attached to any other spell/school or two and you've got a good training spell.
Just finished my first quest in gaersmith orchard looking for werewolf blood, was lost for hours but eventually figured things out, only for the quest giver to say that i could have brought a fresher sample and that the quality of initiates was lower still got paid though but for the trouble that whole adventure was not worth just 200 gold, atleast the loot made up for it.
Thaks for the updated video, Zaric! I saw you'd made an updated Morrowind video so I was going to comment on another video asking if you'd do one for Daggerfall...but I guess I didn't even have to ask. I'd actually just downloaded Unity + the basic modlist you made for recommended new players from the old video yesterday. Looking through some of your other mod loadouts for Daggerfall playthroughs, does Travel Options supersede the Tedious Travel mod you'd recommended back in 2020?
I have a question. Does the busted spell absorption class still work in Unity, or does it require the exploits mod? Thank you for your help, and thank you for this awesome video.
What would be better is if you showed us all the mods that make this game have full lively cities with voiced NPCs like the videos that have been popping up recently
Mechanically? No not really. In terms of World-building? Yes, because they have about a paragraph of explanation as to why you are doing the things you do.
Weird that I chose a nord and also chose the questions option but was never presented with the choice to get the ebony dagger, not sure what I messed up to not get that option but it just gave me a iron axe and a iron sword.
Go to the Advanced settings in the Daggerfall Unity launcher and increase the FOV to max. If that doesn't work, download Eye of the Beholder and Auto-Sight mods for Daggerfall Unity and try playing the game in Third Person Mode.

Maybe now I can finally get past the first dungeon. 🙏
1st dungeon is EZ
What's funny is the game came with a guide on how to take the shortest path to the exit in the first dungeon.

oh, i saw a live a few days ago regarding daggerfall with no mods, you are incredible!
the old one got me into Daggerfall, happy to watch a updated version
Very much enjoy watching your guides, would love to see a "first 5 hours" guide for Elden Ring from you.

I'd like games to be more complex instead of pretty

We will never see something like daggerfall in modern gaming. Bethesda is unable to produce gems anymore.
Our last hope is wayward souls.

This video came at the perfect time for me, I am in the preparation phase for my Daggerfall Unity play-through. Can’t wait for your mod list video!
Excellent timing! I just set mine up the other day, was waiting for some free-time to mod.
Considering I want to play Daggerfall, this is gonna be a fun watch.

Rogue and Burglar both have major problems. But if you want to make it even harder, try making a custom Linguist class.
