Morrowind is currently in it's Golden Age. Because of Tamriel Rebuilt getting better and better, as well as Morrowind Script Extender and DarkElfGuys' continued championing of really compelling Modding Competitions. There's never been a better time to play, Morrowind is more Morrowindy because very talented lovers of the game have put in the WORK to bring concepts made by the og devs to life decades after the official release.

As an atronach you can just use a reduce intelligence spell or potion on self and after its effects wear off, your magica will be full again. The issue with NCGD is that there's is no feeling of progression/accomplishment, when I use it, I miss my sweet dopamine rush from the level up screen. Morrowind leveling system is weird because you think you have to minmax, but in reality you don't need to since there is no really scaling ennemies like in Oblivion. You can perfectly beat the game having only x2 or even some x1 stats multiplicators each level. If you're too bothered with the x1, just train some skills each time you pass a town to guaranty at least some x2 and you're golden

Thank you for making Morrowind accessible for me, I've enjoyed my time with Bethesda RPGs after watching this video. My Redguard casually walked up to Dagoth Ur at about level 35, after maxing out all attributes but Luck, and pretty much no skill yet, and casually slew his first form, getting himself in an inescapable situation in the heart chamber, where I was forced to load a save from before the heart chamber and actually try to do the main quest line, completing the main quest at level 59. This is the best guide I've ever watched, and certainly brought me the most enjoyment out of any video as a consequence of me watching it. I had sworn off any Bethesda RPGs after failing at Oblivion in 2006, but this video made it clear to me that there's a lot of fun to be had with these games, so I went back and played Morrowind with OpenMW, thanks to your video, and started Skyrim SE right afterwards. I even dared plunge back into Oblivion, armed with the knowledge of how Bethesda RPGs work in general, made a "backwards" class with the skills I would use the least, and my Breton is now running around Cyrodiil at level 6, slaying things, looting poisoned apples from a strange cave with a hand sign, and getting rich while avoiding the oblivion gates spawning everywhere for some reason. I even dipped my toe into Daggerfall (with the Unity-based engine), thanks to another one of your videos. Looking forward to The Wayward Realms one day. Again, I can't thank you enough for making gaming interesting again for me, in my 40s. Thank you, sir!
Good timing. Never got that far in the main quest line as a kid, too busy exploring and thieving. Was thinking of giving it a more proper go just recently
I recently passed 500 hours in Morrowind (rookie numbers ik) but I'm still going to watch anyways as I'm a obsessed Morrowind fan that spends more time in Vivec city than socializing with the outside world.
Long time fan here, good to see you are still producing this kind of content my guy, I recently got the urge to play Morrowind again so this video was perfect for me!
Even though I've been playing Morrowind since 2002, it's still interesting to hear fresh takes in beginner-friendly guides; so many wildly different opinions and most are justified. Hell, I'd never even heard of the Morrowind Advanced or Affresh mods. Seems really cool. For new players that would like to see more content in one save file, there's a criminally underrated mod called Join All Houses, and it does just that; it lets you join and complete each of the three, and have each of their strongholds. In terms of the game's fast travel, you should definitely complete the Master Index main plugin ASAP on a new file. You can also get Multiple Mark mods that will allow you to teleport to more than one location via Recall. The last one is more of a quality of life improvement that I don't exactly recommend it for new players, unless you absolutely must have more fast travel options.
This is a very high quality video. All the information is well organized, neatly presented in language that is accessible to anyone. Job well done! I am impressed and a new subscriber.
Amazing video. How come I never thought about consant fatique regen? What a game, travelling across the whole island in few jumps (and usually landing near something interesting) is one of my fondest gaming memories.
I have beaten this game several times and didn't need a guide, but you are very informative, well spoken, and professional. Thank you for the entertainment, Good luck.
I tried morrowind a week ago, I had a blast. I don’t get some people’s “there’s a lot of reading” complaint, I’m freakin Gen Z and if I have no problem it should be a breeze. Magic actually felt fun unlike Skyrim.
i am SO excited to finally get into Morrowind during my college break, this video couldn't have come at a better time! skyrim was the first ever "big 3d rpg" i ever tried around november of last year, and it got me hooked! a friend bought me the other two games and i am so hyped to get into them
If someone insists on trying a stealth build for a first character, here's some tips; 1. Illusion spells are your friend, try to find items with illusion spells attached and/or train illusion 2. Sneak everywhere, just DON'T FORGET TO UNSNEAK when you want to talk to someone 3. Get real comfortable with save-scumming

I would love a History of The Elder Scrolls Part 3: Morrowind. The Daggerfall video is what inspired me to start playing that game, and I still watch it occasionally to this day.
Fantastic! I've played Morrowind since the Xbox days and do a playthrough every couple of years. This was well put together enough for me to do a playthrough. AND I LEARNED A LOT.
Thanks for this. I tried to play Morrowind on my original Xbox ages ago and it didn't click. I've been thinking about this game again recently and how despite finishing future BGS titles, I never actually really played this one, and I feel like giving it a real shot. I tried to download it on Gamepass but was disappointed my controller didn't work. That's when I found out about openMW. I'm trying it out and I'm excited, but I have no idea what I'm doing. I picked the Spellsword class, I did eventually figure out the knife was a trap and to stop swinging it, and some wizard fell out of the sky and went splat on the floor. I just got Balmora and I'm looking forward to finally playing this game. All of these tips are very helpful.
This is a very well made video with the new player perspective always in mind. My brain screamed many times to correct things or add to what you said, but I realize that most of what you said is to allow them to enjoy that one-time only, true first Morrowind experience that has had coming back for years. Thank you for this considerate video, I already reinstalled the game :_)
I only heard friends talk about Morrowind, we didn't have a PC yet when it was relevant. My first TeS was Oblivion. A few days ago I finally bought Morrowind to finally see what the hype was all about. Cheers for giving me an easy start!
i learned english as a kid while playing morrowind with a dictionary by my side. still coming back to it at least once a year for a fresh playthrough. its so immersive world and story. bethesda later forgot about morrowind.... and how there was never sense of urgency in doing any single quest until you complete like 2/3 of main story. it entices you to explore and do side content.... when oblivion starts it instantly urges you to quickly bring amulet of kings to jofrey. then quickly go find and save martin. then quickly go find this and that before mythic dawn. etc... if you are roleplaying you would never do anything else but run from one main quest to another. you cannot come up with a role playing reason to not go to next quest market of your main quest and ignore everything else. because that is of up most importance to save the world... in morrowind one of the first things that main quest giver says to you is to go join some guild and train your skills. literally tells you off to go do side content because you suck.
and thats where game really opens up if you like role playing. now you can actually choose to ignore the main quest because idiots just released you from a prison ship thinking that you will obey emperors orders and fulfill the prophecy.
Glad I came across this video, I followed a guide a couple of years back that recommended using Morrowind Rebirth for a first playthrough, and that really turned me off to the game.
I like rebirth a lot, but I do NOT recommend it to a new player because it uses a low powered adventure where the best items hidden away in harder to get places. It encourages the player to struggle a lot. Mechanically speaking it's for people who have mastered the base game and want something more difficult. If you are not a fan of the mechanical changes in rebirth and just want the world changes, you can pick and choose the modules you want to use, but that requires an advanced installation.
I jumped back into morrowind last week. And boy was it a blast. This is an amazing video for players who want to experience this absolute Gem of a Bethesda title. I minmaxed the hell out of my current character as I had never done so before. And min-maxing certainly is tedious. Not worth the hassle if you ask me. "Given the opportunity, players will optimize the fun out of a video game" very much applies to min-maxing in morrowind. The only thing I would have liked to see added to the video was an explanation on the diegetic fast travel system of morrowind. Especially that two certain spells are very, very handy. Mark and Recall. No need to say where to get them, just giving new players somewhat of an out of game sidequests to be on the lookout for those spells.
Morrowind will always be my favorite game. The reason it was so fun is because of the crazy amount of options for a build. And yes, the brokenness of the game is also what made it so fun.
Outstanding Guide. I played Morrowind on Pc First. My Pc Died 3 months after. I ended up getting an original xbox, had an Orc Character I loved. Then my cousin from New Jersey comes over and he ended up saving over my file or deleted it, I don't know what happened. I will finish this game one day. Sorry for the Story Time. 😅
Nice guide! I always recommended The Lady for new players, and would roll with it myself just so I wouldn't worry so much about health gain per level, and it helps a bit with the whole "everyone hates the player" early game that puts some off of the game, but a flat 50 attribute points across the board is very OP. Also, on my first playthroughs being hated by everyone at the start stuck with me and I really should encourage others to see it through if they feel they can as it really makes the whole experience hit different in a way that feels intentional. And, well, yeah. Good stuff! I do hope some people give it a go, as is always the case. I've not seen a single player game's player base go so hard towards trying to help onboard newcomers quite as much as Morrowind's, especially given its age. Occasionally people may come to the conclusion that we're hardcore elitist snobs for sticking with it, but I disagree. We always tell people that they should avoid doing certain things, but it's not really from a place of gatekeeping. God mode is only a console command on PC/Cheat code on Xbox away, but it delivers only a short term power fantasy that feels hollow. If one sticks with it, well, becoming powerful is basically inevitable, and with a character following this guide one should be able to take on just about anything aside from higher level foes that are specifically meant to scare people off until they come back stronger. Quicksave is very versatile as well. And hey, no one is saying to never use mods. It's just, well, once you sink your teeth into the game and get a feel for how it plays, how the various systems interact, then one can better understand exactly what they're installing. You can only play through Morrowind for the first time once, and how each person goes about it is up to them. Myself and many others just hope new players give it a go, and have fun while avoiding common pitfalls.
A huge tip of mine for everybody but especially for hoarders is learn to use ctrl and shift when looting/selling, it will bypass the tedious "how many do you want to sell/pickup" dialogue and make it either a single item or a whole stack
As someone whose first character was an Atronarch Breton I was a bit surprised. The only criticism I would have expected is that it trivializes the mid to late game because you become basically impervious to magic. And early game mages are much more reliable than fighters anyway since you can just craft your spells to have high success rate,
And then to think, people criticize Oblivion for the level-scaling that constrains the "trivializing" mid-late game by making enemies damage-sponges. 😆
Pick security, speechcraft, and sneak as main skills, go to Vivec, find the Hlaalu vaults, find the keys, rob them, go to Caldera, sell everything to Creeper, rinse and repeat. Bonus points for getting Mark and Recall spells from the Balmora temple for easier movement between Creeper and the vaults.
Beautiful as always. I think we actually really need guide like this for Skyrim, considering how much Anniversary Edition messed the original experience with both free and paywalled "mods" and after a lot of the real mods from nexus were converted (or should i say consolizationed? xd) into something more similar to these official, cross-platform addons. Also, many once must-have mods died or gained better alternatives, good modding guides got old and most of the newer ones focuses on turning Skyrim into 4k ultra hd shitty dark souls clone. Damn, i feel old
For me, this is objectively the best warrior build for Morrowind. Race : Redguard Birthsign: Lover Major Attributes: Agility, Strength For major skills, you will need long blade, light armor, and armorer. I also recommend security for a fourth major skill. The other skills matter less, so pick what you want. Do the limeware platter trick, and then when you leave the census office, sell it out for a nice iron claymore. Go to the lighthouse next, and kill the lady, then save. You're going to be picking the lock to the chest, and a random steel weapon will be given to you. Save scum until you get the steel claymore or dai-katana. Now your iron claymore has a better replacement. Sleep in someone's house until you get the dark brotherhood assassin on you, though you should be able to dispatch him with relative ease. Take his armor, because it will be one of the best armors in the game. Now, just hoard as much sujamma as you can on your adventures, and you are basically an immortal warrior.
There's one most hilarious thing about the bartering system. Gold is basically a regular item, meaning it occupies space in your inventory (but doesn't weigh anything), which in turn means... you can sell it. For gold. And if your trading skill is high enough, you can trade gold for more gold.
Legend has it that Zaric recorded these videos while clad in nothing but his underwear, with the suit and tie merely serving as illusionary props to deceive newcomers.
Thank you for the video. Since Daggergall Unity 1.0 came out, would you make a similar guide to Daggerfall as well? (I already saved your mod list on my browser btw👍)
Got into morrowimd a year ago and played the absolute shit out of it and it’s definitely one of my favorites of all time. Glad this is here now I can go back and make an even better character. Not to say my old one wasn’t. Made a dark elf long blade heavy armor spell sword that had all kinds of great magiks. Levitation got my around vivec city so much easier
Crazy timing I just redownloaded Morrowind three days ago. Funny enough my character is an atronach/ancestral ghost wizard. Probably going to restart and do a melee build as I'm barely into the game
Very good informative video, as always. Since I saw that you recently started a Baldur's gate 1 campaign, is there a chance you might make a video like this but for BG1?
I doubt it. I've been playing Morrowind for decades, where was the last time I played Baldurs Gate was 20 years ago. It's best (for now) that I leave that to other, more informed channels. If I go crazy and start doing Baldurs Gate solo hardest difficulty runs, I'll change my mind perhaps. For now the purpose of the BG1/Dragonspear/BG2 run is just to #1 - Refresh my memory, #2 - Waste time until BG3 gets more fully patched and mod support (that's confirmed by Larian head of publishing btw). If BG3 isn't ready by the time I finish BG2, I'll likely do some Neverwinter Nights.

Good timing. Never got that far in the main quest line as a kid, too busy exploring and thieving. Was thinking of giving it a more proper go just recently
When i look characters running in the game it feels like that is how we run in our dreams!
Thank you so much for this, got the itch and this really made it easy.
Glad it helped!
Good morning Z! Wonderful to see :)
Not even a new player but I got weirdly excited when you posted this video lol
This is a very high quality video. All the information is well organized, neatly presented in language that is accessible to anyone. Job well done!
I am impressed and a new subscriber.
Amazing video. How come I never thought about consant fatique regen? What a game, travelling across the whole island in few jumps (and usually landing near something interesting) is one of my fondest gaming memories.
Thanks, I started playing around a month ago and I wish I had this vids, especially for vanilla mod recommendations.
Great and informative guide! I'll put it to good use. :-)
Love to see my brothers and sisters enjoying Morrowind once again, or for the first time.
I just got back into playing this. Thank you.
i am SO excited to finally get into Morrowind during my college break, this video couldn't have come at a better time! skyrim was the first ever "big 3d rpg" i ever tried around november of last year, and it got me hooked! a friend bought me the other two games and i am so hyped to get into them
If someone insists on trying a stealth build for a first character, here's some tips;
1. Illusion spells are your friend, try to find items with illusion spells attached and/or train illusion
2. Sneak everywhere, just DON'T FORGET TO UNSNEAK when you want to talk to someone
3. Get real comfortable with save-scumming
May the Tribunal's blessings upon you. Thank you for helping this N'wah on his journey towards enlightenement, for walking the path towards the Tower and the achievement of CHIM. This swit has sacrificed a pack of muck, potion of rising force, 100 Gold, has drowned and payed a silver sword, payed a potion of Cure of Common Disease, Dreugh Wax and a Soul Gem, for walking the pilgrimages of the seven graces. Toughened the quest for the Mage Guild, Fighters Guild and the Imperial Legion, this outlander wants to become a proper reincarnate in this was lands of Ash, Sorrow, Duty, Faith amd Luck.
Many blessings to you, kind Sir. May the Tiburnal light you path.
Started playing morrowind for the first time about two weeks ago and I've been addicted to it, which is a feeling I haven't felt in ages
I would love a History of The Elder Scrolls Part 3: Morrowind. The Daggerfall video is what inspired me to start playing that game, and I still watch it occasionally to this day.
I love these videos. Thank you again for sharing your knowledge with us. 👍
Umineko reference DETECTED.
Fantastic! I've played Morrowind since the Xbox days and do a playthrough every couple of years. This was well put together enough for me to do a playthrough. AND I LEARNED A LOT.
Awesome I'm glad you're able to find use in this.
Thank you for the info, good sir. 👍
Thank you for making tgis updated guide!
Thanks for the video kind sir. I downloaded Morrowind a few days ago and was having the hardest time getting anything done 😅
Very good 👍
Damn 40 sec in and you've already earned a like from me, you work efficient man
I don't like to think of likes and subs as a currency. But I'm glad you the video!
Great guide - I gotta hop into Tamriel Rebuilt at some point.
Well explained and very informative.
How did you know I was doing a “capture all ‘Dagoth’ souls completion” run-though. Thank you!
Im playing as an imperial monk rn, I wish you could make better RPG chracters on the later games like you can in morrowind.
I wish some competent Devs could take the TES license from BGS so we could have decent TES games again.
Awesome vid. Thanks for sharing. Looking forward to more of your content
you look like detective Gordon from batman 😊. or some character from batman. Great informative video . I love this game.
I love this
I did laugh when he said "I spent a huge amount of energy rolling semi good stats" and I think it was like two minutes of a 7 hour video
Pick security, speechcraft, and sneak as main skills, go to Vivec, find the Hlaalu vaults, find the keys, rob them, go to Caldera, sell everything to Creeper, rinse and repeat. Bonus points for getting Mark and Recall spells from the Balmora temple for easier movement between Creeper and the vaults.
appreciate all you do for the TES community
there is just something i really like about these old rpg graphics, i wish there was more games like this
Still love this game even though it's janky! Cheers Zaric
Done very good, thank you ❤❤🎉
Beautiful as always.
Race : Redguard
Birthsign: Lover
Major Attributes: Agility, Strength
For major skills, you will need long blade, light armor, and armorer.
Now, just hoard as much sujamma as you can on your adventures, and you are basically an immortal warrior.
orc might be a better warrior, but orcish gameplay is aimed more at advanced players imo
There's one most hilarious thing about the bartering system. Gold is basically a regular item, meaning it occupies space in your inventory (but doesn't weigh anything), which in turn means... you can sell it. For gold. And if your trading skill is high enough, you can trade gold for more gold.
This is nice and concise, thanks Zaric
Smoke sent me here,
Great video.
(I already saved your mod list on my browser btw👍)
me a lifelong Morrowind player: "This video is for me!"
lol
Goodness I did not know one of the OG devs (Douglas Goodall) actually went back and added 30 quests through a mod, 21 years later. That's amazing.
Someone needs to interview the guy.
@@josephpercy1558 Indigo gaming did manage to get an interview with Julian LeFay and Ted Peterson, so who knows, he might agree if someone reached out.
The man, myth, the legend has returned
I've been wanting to do a playthrough for months now after owning it for years guess now is the time
you my favourite youtuber :)
