CLIP DESCRIPTION:
Stevie (Gary Springer) chickens out when Sonny (Al Pacino) and Sal (John Cazale) set the bank robbery into motion.
FILM DESCRIPTION:
Based on a true 1972 story, Sidney Lumet's 1975 drama chronicles a unique bank robbery on a hot summer afternoon in New York City. Shortly before closing time, scheming loser Sonny (Al Pacino) and his slow-witted buddy, Sal (John Cazale), burst into a Brooklyn bank for what should be a run-of-the-mill robbery, but everything goes wrong, beginning with the fact that there is almost no money in the bank. The situation swiftly escalates, as Sonny and Sal take hostages; enough cops to police the tristate area surround the bank; a large Sonny-sympathetic crowd gathers to watch; the media arrive to complete the circus; and police captain Moretti (Charles Durning) tries to negotiate with Sonny while keeping the volatile spectacle under control. When Sonny's lover, Leon (Chris Sarandon), tries to talk Sonny out of the bank, we learn the robbery's motive: to finance Leon's sex-change operation. Sonny demands a plane to escape, but the end is near once menacingly cool FBI agent Sheldon (James Broderick) arrives to take over the negotiations.

In just one scene, we know everything we need to know about Sonny without saying a word. We know he's in over his head the way he fumbles to get the rifle out of the package, and we know he has somewhat of a good heart underneath it all by the way he waits for the mother and baby to leave.
Fumble? That's was smooth.
The mother and child would have created more problems as hostages anyway. Just saying..
@@Thefictitious_reel true but the reason he did that was obviously to spare the mother and baby, because he is a good person who is doing a bad thing
That could be the reason but I just thought they were waiting for all non staff to leave before closing
And he lets the curly haired guy live when he could have shot him for treason.
"take the subway we need the car" what a pricless reaction 😂
But how am I gonna get home?

It’s pure gold. 🤣❤️
Stevieeeeee
I have to say that I love how he gets the rifle out of the box. It's not some fluid motion. It's erratic, uncoordinated, and really gets across that they have no clue what they're doing without saying a word.
But the balding guy with a machine guy was so smooth...
Method baby. Take a simple move and complicate it.
Pacino did the same thing with the phone in his conversation with Sosa in Scarface.
Not an easy thing to act out.
God, just imagine how much more of John Cazale we could've had if he hadn't died. So many masterpieces that we may never see or that didn't reach their full potential without him.
I think Carzale played mostly weak, Wimpy Men. Both this role and Fredo are very similiar. Could Cazle played more Macho roles? WE will never know that for sure.

After the Beatles broke up, Paul fell on hard times.
I for some reason really want to see that now. _Dog Day Afternoon_ but Al Pacino's playing mid-70s McCartney.
Once he lost the little help of his friends, he just let it be.
😂😂😂😂😂
The damn Taxman
And then in "Carlito's Way", he becomes puertorican Tony Stark.
I remember being in my early teens when I watched this in the mid '70s and being frightened by the Sal character played by Cazale. I kept waiting for him to suddenly snap and shoot all the hostages. It was the quiet and menacing demeanor of that character that startled me instead of the manic and loud performance by Pacino. Most actors don't get five great movies much less five of the greatest ever... The absolute definition of an artist.
All the movies Cazale was in were absolutely memorable (Godfather,Godfather 2, The Conversation, Dog Day Afternoon and The Deer Hunter)
@@BAYAREA-kd1ig it’s a shame he had such a short career
the cigarette scene is fearless, he doesnt even try to be likable
I wanna go to Wyoming.
DiCaprio have more than 5 masterpiece and certainly great film
John Cazale was such an incredible actor. Look how calm his character is when he says, "Just keep talking like nothing was wrong." Excellent portrayal of a criminal.
I like the “saaaaal” when Stevie said he couldn’t do it.
Stevieee! the keys!
look how he wrestles with the box to get the gun LMFAO
he is just a genius. he adds more value to a character.
Kinda like in Scarface when he couldn't get a hold of the phone while he was talking to Sosa 😅🤣

Al Pacino's acting skills are unbelievble! He should have won more oscars for his roles, I love him so much! 😍😍
Fr tho he’s so incredibly talented. He got robbed of so many oscars
I know, even though his characters are always on the lower end of the totem pole, something about him says that he is a Vera and interesting person to be around
Robert De Niro is often thought of as the best actor of that generation (actors born 5-6 years either side of him), but I think Pacino's work in this film and also And Justice For All surpass anything I've seen from De Niro.
RIP John Cazale (August 12, 1935 - March 13, 1978), aged 42
You will be remembered as a legend.

Al Pacino invented a new word: WHTDAUWANT!!!
Used again in Scent of a Woman
WHAT DO YOU WANT!?! lol
That opening scene is actually pretty funny, they're so awkward. I always laugh at how Pacino takes his rifle outta the box 2:03, you can hear his bullets falling on the ground then the blue ribbon hangs to the rifle strap and he swings it left and right to take the box away, lol. Sal on the other hand does his introduction as a bank robber in cool, orderly fashioned way with eased voice 0:36, it almost fooled me that Sal actually knows what he's doing and that he's gonna call the shots but while the film progresses we see him turning into Freddo, weak and stupid, hell they all are. Amateurs.
Like Fredo said “ I can handle things, I’m Smart not like everyone says like Dumb!”
Also when Pacino is jumping to block out the cameras with the spray but is too short and then gets a chair LOL
"Stevie! the keys!" 😂😂so natural and honest reaction from Al Pacino and so funny
I find it awesome that Al Pacino played the complex, calm, calculating Michael Corleone in The Godfather Part II right before this film, and here, he just plays a mess of a man.
And these performances were BACK TO BACK. Unbelievable.
My father was an extra in this movie.
Wow! That's amazing.

Who played?
Awesome
Jake Rutigliano so was my son he’s turning 3 next month
to me al pacino is the greatest hollywood actor. i know brando, de nero, daniel day-lewis, tom hanks and all cud do this character in their own style and that wud be a hit roo but i have found that al pacino's body movement and facial gesture during his acting and delivering dialogues is so much better than others that has made his ahead of others in my opinion. everyone has his favourites, i like and regard other actors too, but pacino is so much involved in his character and he invents and adds so much to a character that i cant but say that he is the best of them all.
Rony Rahman me too , I can't believe this the guy who played Tony Montana also played sonny
Al Pacino is the kind of actor who can play everything
he brings characters to LIFE so you totally forget you're actually watching a movie.. it becomes life and you feel yourself next to him...
I 100% agree!!
Yeah he was really good in Jack and Jill, what a thespian!
One of my all time favorite films.
This is the worst bank robbery ever!!!

Those panicked expressions at 2:15 are priceless!
Love how he struggles with the box to get the gun out.
Im sorry but its beyond my understanding how Al Pacino didnt win an oscar for this performance. Jack Nicholson was great in One flew over the Cuckoos nest, but Al Pacino just blows you away in this film
No chance
Either one deserved it!
both are top ten performances of all time
he is a perfect actor but he has only one oscar that is really unfair!!

Attica! Attica! Attica!
I"m not an american so I don't get it, may you tell me what does it exactly mean ?
BA D it was a prison riot that happened and the reason that it happened is because the guards didn't do their job right
Austin Hebb Thank you.
BA D The true story of the film took place about a year after the infamous riot at Attica prison, where police moved through and massacred everyone to put the riot down- prisoners and guards alike. That event was a major contributor to the early 70's anti-establishment climate, so it lends itself very well to this film, which shows otherwise reprehensible people being given superstar status and getting all the media attention. Pacino's character knows exactly how to win the crowd by invoking the Attica prison riot and turning them against the cops.
Thanks for the info :)
I have a crush on Al Pacino!
Pacino was masterful, probably one of the best acting performance
Every single character in this movie is just outstanding! An absolute cinematic masterpiece.
everything went wrong that day !!!
The level of sheer anxiety and nearing nervous breakdown like emotion that Al Pacino portrays within the psyche of Sonny is unparalleled acting.
so thats how the corleone's got their money?

I remember buying this one on blu ray a few years ago not expecting much. It turned out to be one of the best movies i have ever seen. Pacino is a monster.
I grew up in the 80s and remember watching this on VHS and Sal scared the shit out of me. Such a great film by the master Sidney Lumet! John Cazale really was a genius actor!
Pacino-one of the great performances of all time.

Absolutely 😎💪
Low key one of the funniest movies I've ever seen. "Stevie!...the keysss!" is one of a dozen moments that murders me.
Sonny and sal aren't supposed to be tough guy bank robbers that's the point
No shit.
you mean Michael and Fredo ?
When I first watched this film I didn’t expect it to be so funny. I burst out laughing at how awkwardly Pacino tries to take the rifle out of the box. Then he and Cazel trying to see each other around the pillars. Hilarious and brilliant!
A masterpiece of acting and movie
2:06 Love the part when he says "Get over there!" to the cardboard box, illustrating how highly strung he is.
Pacino looks so much like Paul McCartney here
It's very strange seeing Al Pacino frantically fumbling to get his weapon out and John Cazale calmly and coolly take out his, considering the parts they played in Godfather 1 and 2
Him struggling with it was actually unintentional al was really trying to get the string off
I never realized how good this scene was.
Al Pacino was a damn good actor when he was young
And old too, such a legend. And no good but brilliant!!!

Al Pacino is one of the greatest actors of all time. John Sayles is one of the only actors who had been nominated for BSA the 3 movies he was in, that should tell you how great an actor HE is.
He knew he was screwed when he said: Oh, f**k me! 2:34 LOL!
My Dad taught me about Pacino wrestling the gun as a kid in the 70’s. About the whole movie, really. Attica. The great acting performances. John Cazale. Wyoming. Charles Durning swearing up a storm out in the street. About New York City in the middle-70’s.
What GTA V Heists looks like.
I LOVE THIS MOVIE!!!!
The movie that made me fall in love with Al Pacino...
Hahahah, that little "GET OVER THERE" to the box is one of my favorite Pacino moments ever.
It looks like Fredo and Micheal Corleone's first theft together 😂🤷♂️
If this is a comedy, it's definitely working LOL.
Amo al pacino anche ora che ha 74 anni è bellissimo e poi è un bravissimo attore più qualunque altro
This movie is so great, Pacino and pretty much everyone else is absolutely priceless. Lol and it’s hilarious too
i'd definetly be stevie in this situation. I'm the type of person who would also forget to give him the keys for the car like a dope xD

One the most powerful movie ever made on bank robbery Al Pacino is a true legend amazing actor wonderful movie
such a great movie of a true story!!!
T2 definitely took inspiration from this scene with the gun in the box.
both this movie and T2 both take their gun in a box idea from "The Killing"
"Wyoming would be nice...." LMAO! My sister & I have been using this line since 1975! Where you wanna go Sal, anywhere in the world - pick a country...
No, Wyoming... dat's not a country...
how can a bank robber be this cute?
3:03 "Well how will I get home?" 😂

I think this is al pacinos best role
Don Corleone after seing this scene : "Look ,how they massacred my boys" 😭😂!

Al Pancino’s voice in this was the basis for Moe Syzlack from The Simpsons. You can half hear that here 2:47
Still a relevant film being that banks are STILL being robbed almost 45 years later...and successfully robbed in many cases. Such a classic tho, still one of Pacino's best roles ever.
Al Pacino so cute ♥♥♥♥♥♥
this is more like a snl skit
The irony is this movie came out the same year as the debut of SNL in 1975...
