15 years ago a few of us Buckeyes traveled to Bend/Redmond to visit family. It was late spring/ early summer. To be honest the towns were still quite small and the people were friendly enough. I was in awe of the scenery, especially Mt. Bachelor and Smith Rock. I thought Bachelor should be an easy ascent. I thought I was in good shape. I was wrong. 😂. The way up wasn’t too bad. The way down was rough. I wouldn’t trade that memory for anything. Setting up on a boulder just breathing and watching the world be still for a few hours. It gives you a new perspective on just how small us mere mortal humans are. Great video and thanks for refreshing my memory of my trip to the cascades.
You weren't kidding, trees, trees & (wait for it) more trees, however, the view of the mountain, in the distance, was pretty. I really like roundabouts, I don't know why...I just do -- they make me smile every time I encounter one! I always feel like it would be fun to 'go round' a couple of times, just for the fun of it! LOL! Travel safe! :-)
The river you crossed was the Deschutes. I moved to Bend when it had 8000 persons, it got to busy for me so we moved north to Terrebonne.. Mt. Bachelor got its name due to its location relative to the 3 Sisters to the NW. The town of Sisters was named for the 3 mountains. Faith, Hope and Charity. These 4 dominate the view to the west. Thanks for the nice tour, especially since I didn't have to fight the traffic. Have a safe trip north.
It is really pretty there in Bend, OR. They sure do like their "round abouts". I understand the reason for them, but they are a pain sometimes. Awesome aerial video. There were a LOT of trees there, but sure is pretty. Thank you for the wonderful video of Bend, OR. Stay safe and give Scoobers a hug from me.
Great footage Russ, those roundabouts are child's play compared to Washington D.C. roundabouts. It allows traffic to flow continuously as well as assisting with speeding cars. Looking forward to the next adventure, Fair Winds and Safe Journeys.
So, I just ran across your channel yesterday, and watched some of your Arizona Rt. 66 vids because I lived along there in the 90s. Now I live in Prineville, OR. 30 miles NE of Bend...this is quite a coincidence. I was there first... are you following me? LOL! It seems you enjoy beautiful country, just like me.
Nice video of Bend, OR. I agree the roundabouts do take some getting used to. Beautiful area, I will have to put that on my places to visit! Look forward to more of your travel! Take care.
Bend is a great place to live. Those roundabouts are a bit much, but they work i guess. I enjoyed your Ariel footage.."Nothing but Trees", lol. Really cool. thanks for sharing.
WOOT Russ 1 Nice to see the Aerial Shot... Love following you... by the way... Love your narrative voice.. you sound exactly like my Uncle Bill !!!! and, That is a good thing ! Peace.... Out ! Travel Safe !
Certain central and south-southeastern Oregon locations only fail to host national parks and such in my view because someone didn't know someone or had a light envelope back in the day at a moment when things might have played differently. I'm a 52 year Oregon resident. I know some places but I love them maybe too much-exactly because other people don't know them. Some'd say it's typical Oregon. I'd not claim it in the particulars like that. Anyway, I bet you know that feeling. But I like that you have overcome it and share. That's pretty cool.
Hi Russ, I haven't checked in for awhile, Just wondering the main reason you switched from your motorhome to the trailer...economics, manuveralbility or something else. Lots and lots of nice country there. Thanks.
After all the wide open places you've been Russ, this must seem a little claustrophobic. It sure seemed that way to me. It's whatever a person gets used to I guess.

A lumberer's dream. Nice lace. Yet looks a bit like CA with all the round-a-bouts.
The Farewell Bend park he stopped at first used to be home of a very large lumber mill.
i'll be in Bend tomorrow, 8/1, B of A, Walmart, Arco gas; and then to Sunriver to camp at TT.
