I was camping in Indiana, yesterday and a gal told me to be sure and drive the MD Highway if I ever get to Colorado. I’m 73 and figured I’d never get to drive it. Woke up this morning, grabbed my phone to check the weather and up popped this video!!! It must be a God thing! It’s 9:40am and I’m still in bed watching this amazing video!!! Thank you!! Thank you!!!
Russ, this is the best video you’ve ever done! We have traveled this area extensively enjoying all of the things you featured. The Durango and Silverton railroad, the Cumbre is in Toltec railroad in Chama New Mexico, the Hot Springs pools in Pagosa Springs, and of course the incomparable Million Dollar highway. Just wanted to congratulate you on a work of art.
Certainly glad you were the one driving this. I was "white-knuckled" in my armchair as you deftly made your way through these magnificent mountains. Thank you for taking me with you. You are living my dream.
I’ve only been watching your channel for a few months now and it’s become one of mine and my boyfriend’s favorite channels to watch together. I started watching you because it reminded me of my many RV travels with my Grandma over the years. You’ve been to many of the same places we’ve been too. One thing I regret is not taking more photos and video with her on those trips. She now has Alzheimer’s and can no longer take our beloved trips with me anymore. Your videos remind me of a time when we used to travel together and I look forward to every time you post a new one. 💚
The Durango train ride is incredible. Forget the price, it's worth it. Breathtaking scenery. I've done it twice and you can either do the full trip up and back or just do the ride to Silverton and bus ride back.
I am so glad i caught this vid. I drove that entire highway and did not realize at the time it was the Million dollar highway. All i know is once i left Utah, I entered on my gps, take me to New Mexico. That fall they had an early snow. Unknown to me at the time. I asked the GPS, take me the shortest way to New Mexico. OH my God, it was the most memorable drive i took to this day. Stunning at every turn. I did say many a prayer, that i didn’t fall off one of the step cliffs. Then, at one of the the last turns…..Silverton appeared. I like you enjoy early morning road trips. Silverton, was shinning in the morning sun. Thank you for posting and glad you too had. Grand time. God bless
I love watching your vlogs... It bring me peace. If the world were full of people like you that appreciate the simple things of life, we would be in bliss❤
I am watching this vid again. Everytime I see the million dollar highway vids I want to go over it so bad. I am in Florida flat. Ha. Love the way you get so excited when a tunnel comes up. Keep them coming. Thanks Patsy
I lived in Pagosa in the 70s Chama used to have great Mexican food! I loved living there! It’s changed big time! I’ve been back a few times, last time was 2 years ago. I bought that black and decker coffee maker because you suggested it! I love it! You passed our old homestead on 84 big red barn on the right and fields..
Russ ! I love you video's they make me feel like I am right there with you in your van with you on your trips . I am very happy to be going with you just setting here with my coffee. flying high with the bird and on top of all the trees and lakes.
Thank you for sharing this beautifulll video ! I had to pause many times just to read the signs and or enjoying the awesome view you shot ! Great video/s indeed! Terima kasih dari Indonesia!
I rode the Durango train 3 times all in the July and you get all temps in one hot, cool, mild, snowed, and rain. The very back is the best views. There was a giant bear sitting watching us the very last time I was on the train.
Love your long road trip videos, Russ. They give me a reason for living and getting my old van ready for next summer. Hopefully, I'll be able to see all of these beautiful places over the next few years as a full-time nomad on the road. Take care.
Oh thank you for the trip. I was born in Colorado and was an army brat. I miss this and every chance I get I love to take a road trip with guys like you. My soul yearns for home. I’m in Oklahoma now most of my life. Don’t get to travel much due to my health so I appreciate you so very much. 🫶🇺🇸❣️
This so so beautiful another part of America that I love the train stations trains are iconic the whistles sounds of trains in the distance my type of town ,the scenery is just as iconic spectacular and July is a perfect month ❤ you must realy enjoy I mean I would love to have the opportunity to do what you do cruising filming editing taking it all in and living the life of freedome none stop, yr a lucky man Sir and thank you for yr realy wel meticulously and musicaly edited videos they are the best 👌we thank you so much me and my family would like to thank you but also we want you to take care on the road we shall pray for yr journeys to be safe God bless you Sir and thank you again.
Really enjoyed riding with you this trip! It was quite a long video. I can see how it would be tiring driving for long distance with the switchbacks. Thanks for the ride!
Wow I mainly only watch your videos I appreciate all your videos especially this one wow I just envy how you live your life it’s just wonderful to feel you can go anywhere and feel accepted and afford all that gas you go man you living the life most every man wants to live the freedom to see this country and all It’s beautiful scenery and small town man I would love to live in the Silverton Colorado area just wow like you said colorful old brick small town life please God bless me to live like this love Yahweh’s artwork the glory and honor belongs to him and I love how you show case it to home bodies like me a window to the kingdom of God on earth ❤
Enjoying this video, Russ. I especially liked the looks of Chama, NM. It looks like such a beautiful place. By the way my son told me about the Waze travel app. It alerts you to road block/construction zones, traffic jams etc. Said travelers constantly report things as they go along so it stays updated pretty well. The I-Drive app works pretty good for us in AR as well. Thanks for sharing! Safe travels.🕊️
I did this trip several years ago with a semi from Durango to Ouray. Took 4 1/2 hours with multiple stops for pictures. I did it the first week of September when the Aspen trees were in full color.
I am out of Denver. You are doing exactly the type of travel I want to do. Thank you for modeling how to explore Rocky Mountain regond. I have a 90s vintage popup and an SUV to tow it with good AC. I have been wanting to e explore but diden't know what to do it. Thank you for modeling how to get out and travel on the road. A life changer
That million dollar highway was unbelievable! Was holding on to my blanket going through those narrow roads 😮 The Durango & Siverton railroad is so cool! They even run the train in the snow❄️
Yes indeed, this is a wonderful video. This country is dear to my heart. Thank you for a great trip down memory lane!👍 Back in 1988, I treated my Mom to a visit to Durango & Silverton. We spent night one at the Strater Hotel in Durango, then next day the train ride to Silverton and back to Durango. Night two was camping at Untited Campground north of Durango (spot next to the railroad where we saw the morning train we were on pass by our campsite the next morning). Then back to Phoenix to get her home! 😄
I'm familiar with this route from Durango to Silverton, I stayed overnight in an amazing old hotel ( to clean up after hiking and camping in Mesa Verde Nat Park). I continued on the M. D. Highway to Ouray. Then more hikes and camping ( tent) in the mountains. A loop around Ridgway,Telluride and back to Cortez. What a stunning area, should have done more ! Oldtimer Englishman reliving past adventures with you on your journey now. Ps, that was in 1994.
It would be nice when your at rv camp site to show some other rv.s that are there, back when I did a lot of camping we always walk through the campground and seeing some amazing campers .
I did most of this drive about 30 years ago as part of an 1,800-mile trip around the Four Corners area. I remember the jaw-dropping beauty I saw around every curve and over every crest in the roadway. It's an amazing area.
I was going to travel this area in October, but I got hit with unexpected health conditions, and had to cancel. Hurts my soul. It's great Russ puts these out but it's also kind of bittersweet for because I was supposed to be there.
Wow Ted Mountain Pass was epic! I’ve seen a trucker come through Red Mountain Pass! He has a channel called Riding Shotgun! It’s great too Russ! He treks a lot of snow packed roads in winter for his job! It’s scary for sure!😏❤️🚙🇺🇸🌏
For the ones that waved, you can get a good judgment on their character and a decent idea of what kind of people they are. Good, kind, decent people. It doesn't take any effort to wave back at someone smiling and waving at you. Just enjoying life and trying to have a good time. Not all into their selves.
Those switchback roads remind me of US 250 and 33 in West Virginia. I thought the train depot was very cool especially the round house where that locomotive was being staged for a train trip to Silverton. The people there in western Colorado have to be very hardy in living in those mountainous areas. Bitter cold there now and a lot of snow. Thanks for the extended tour of the trip made for part 1 road trip.
The old Railroad there in Chama is all apart of the old Narrow Gage Trains from the 1800's. I believe the line started in Antonito, Colorado, dropped down into N.M., and back up to Durango, then up to Silverton. The only two place left is Cumbres & Toltec Scenic Railway from Chama, NM to Antonito, CO. and Durango/Silverton Railway Trains.
You missed the big Waterfall where there was too many people stopped, and you couldn't pull in. and back where you said there must be a trail or something, was the beginning of Black Bear road. And where you did stop and there is part of Ouray, there is a huge waterfall coming out of a hole in the wall of solid rock. Also there is a Campground above Ouray pronounced "your-ay". Nat'l forest campground. Stayed up there once. We love this part of Colorado. We are from Arkansas! Also you missed the great part of Silverton and a great ghost town just outside of there called Animas Forks. You can drive a regular vehicle up to it. And also there is a gold mine tour up there that is called The old Hundred gold mine. For when you go back.
We agree. You missed that big waterfall on the way into Ouray. That’s a beautiful stop. Also you just drove through Ouray. We thought Ouray was a much nicer town than Silverton. Ouray is really known for its hot springs and they have a nice pool. Plus if you turned off at Ridgway and headed south you can get into Teluride and then follow the Delores River all the way down back to Delores and Cortez CO. That route is a great ride in itself.
Your UA-cam Channel is great and so are you, Russ. I really enjoy watching the long videos, especially the Once In A Lifetime Series videos. I wish you safe travels. Talk soon, Alan.
Can you do that road trip all the way down from Texarkana to Fayetteville Arkansas and even pass their into Springdale and record it like you're doing that because the mountains that are coning is much like volcanoes I mean Arkansas has many cone mountains
We’ve ridden the train up to Silverton several times and had lunch every time. Prices were reasonable every time so while they have lots of stuff people can buy I didn’t feel they overcharged us. There is so much to see in Silverton, hopefully you’ll have a chance to visit again.
We have been following you about a year. We went on this road. Just an FYI, you missed a great turn out with a waterfall. It’s before the stop you made to the Ouray turn out. Also the brewery downtown in Ouray was a great stop. You should have spent more time in that town.
Wow, the twists and turns and views of The Million Dollar Highway were indeed spectacular! I’ve driven some of a must-see twisty-turney scenic highway in Colorado years ago and nope, not again. Sure, the views were amazing, but too scary for me! Although it is pretty cool exploring them with you …from my comfy chair at home. 😂 Thanks for another top-notch video, Russ! 📽

You should come to Southern New Mexico and see Silver City where I live in an old mining town
I did this trip several years ago with a semi from Durango to Ouray. Took 4 1/2 hours with multiple stops for pictures. I did it the first week of September when the Aspen trees were in full color.
It was an amazing experience throughout the mountains. Simply fantastic 👍
These vids help me with wanting to move to New Mexico-Colorado area, just need to find a courthouse to work for 🙏🏽
Love those cute little towns 👍

I just love these Once in a Lifetime trips! During the last minutes of this video, I just about fell off my seat. Thanks for your videos, Russ!

Very nice video. Been on 550 three different times, it never gets old!!
I was going to travel this area in October, but I got hit with unexpected health conditions, and had to cancel. Hurts my soul. It's great Russ puts these out but it's also kind of bittersweet for because I was supposed to be there.

Nice traveling with you!

Great scenic road trip. Always watching for wild life beside the road and on your drone flights.

Home of John Denver stay safe and have fun
Northern New Mexico is my favorite place! Chama is a great camping spot in the summer. Thanks for this video.
One of your best tours Russ! Colarado is simply amazing! Take it in for the next saison again!

You say “We”. Who is we? I have been watching for a while and never see You with any Human or Pet. Love Your videos 👍 keep making more!
We have been following you about a year. We went on this road. Just an FYI, you missed a great turn out with a waterfall. It’s before the stop you made to the Ouray turn out.
Also the brewery downtown in Ouray was a great stop. You should have spent more time in that town.
WoW what a view, I would love to be there seeing it in person, it's absolutely amazing. thank you for sharing this video Russ
This is my favorite trip of yours.
Wow, the twists and turns and views of The Million Dollar Highway were indeed spectacular! I’ve driven some of a must-see twisty-turney scenic highway in Colorado years ago and nope, not again. Awesome video Russ. Thank you!!
