2008 Ford Expedition sleeper Intake and Exhaust Upgrades

  • Installed Spectre cold air intake kit and a custom exhaust system which completely removes the factory 30 pound restrictive boat anchor of a muffler. If I wanted a V8 expedition to sound like a quiet electrical car, I would have bought a Tesla.... A Jones performance 2 chamber muffler was installed with a 3 inch inlet / outlet which extended to the downpipe flange. The factory exhaust from the downpipe was 3 inches which was dropped to 2 1/4 after the downpipe flange leading to 2 1/4 at the factory muffler inlet/outlet then transitioned back to 3 inches to the rest of the exhaust system. The factory exhaust bottle neck is after the downpipe, to / from / and the factory restrictive heavy boat anchor muffler and then the exhaust goes back to 3 inch. I removed factory muffler, cut off all piping that was 2 1/4 and replaced it with 3 inch exhaust piping to lead to the new 3 inch in/out 2 chamber muffler which flows great. Finished it off with a 3 inch in and 5 inch out exhaust tip which gives that great sounding rumble a nice tip. All in all, the intake and exhaust are finally balanced so the engine gets fresh cold air in, and breathes out with free no restrictions (except catalytic converter) to allow the hot exhaust gasses to exit freely with a small fraction of backpressure that it used to have with that HUGE boat anchor factory muffler which belongs on some giant t farm tractor, not a passenger vehicle. Altogether I did real good budget wise. Spent $30 on the Jones 3in/3out 2 chamber muffler at Summit Racing. Exhaust tip 3 in 5 out on ebay for $12, Spectre air intake kit at Summit on the 50% off shelf for $100, and $90 for exhaust tube and welding labor at my local exhaust shop. Great budget mods.

    I kept the stock air box on my 07 and did a K&N drop in air filter and a airaid build your own intake system. Exhaust is on my list of things to do i found a magnaflow that will fit in place of the stock muffler and gonna Change the tip to a dual out. But with another kid on the way some projects had to temporarily get put on hold

    I put one of K&N on my 2007 Expedition, it ran very quiet only time it sounds like a motorcycle revving is when I push down on the gas pedal to get a jump on the speed, but once I let go, it was quite again.
    Gave that truck to my son.
    Now I got a 2017, did the same think with the Ecoboost!! Runs smoothly and quiet, only wen I give it a full push on the gas! It sounds nice! But once it’s up to speed, it sounds just like factory!!👍🏻

      I like the twin turbo ecoboost, same engine as in my 20 F150, I installed an Injen twin filter intake kit, one per turbo. I pulls nice and sounds great. The intake tubes leading to the turbochargers, have a resonator in them where we do not hear the turbo sounds that much.

      Thank you, it also pushes you in the seat better than before, especially along with a free flow muffler to replace the heavy restrictive factory muffler.

    hmmmmm, that does not sound like an Expedition. The air intake stock has like four ports that fill with I think coolant? It is the weirdest think I have ever seen on an air intake. Any ideas? Ironically, it seemed to work because the four ports would catch the coolant and protect the air filter. Big improvement; nice work.

    I got a 2010 expedition limited for my first car about a month ago but I can't drive it because I dont have my permit and it needs cam phasers because after we bought it the dealership gave us a paper that said what was wrong with it after we asked if there was anything wrong with it before we wanted to buy it☹ HAVE ANY SUGGESTIONS WHAT I SHOULD DO TO IT?

    • @madboostingmadmatt48
      @madboostingmadmatt48  3 роки тому +1

      Cam Phasers is quite a bit of work. Parts and labor is quite expensive and while you are doing that, chances are, timing chain and tensioners will need work as well. Will the dealership change them for you or do you have a warranty that can pay for the job, since the problem was there when you purchased it? One way to deal with cam phasers temporarily is unplug the VCT solenoid plug which will disable the Phasers. It will run a bit better and get you by a while but will not have much power. If you have to pay for the phasers, it would be best to get a remanufactured engine which has all new components and warranty for a number of miles. Or you could search ebay or other wrecking yards for a ford 5.4 factory supercharged engine and install it for an upgrade.
      Once your engine is fixed and runs good again, I would recommend getting it to breathe much better with a free flowing intake, exhaust, and some new NGK iridium spark plugs which are the best plugs I have ever used.

      The factory lower intake box and the coolant tank are joined together and had to be cut to separate them. It is a poor factory design that the newer F150 and expedition do not have anymore.

      According to my SCT-X4 tuner live data, my intake temperature when I am driving is within 1 degree from the outside air. I believe that is a great result considering my hood is closed and the hood keeps hot air inside the engine bay.

Turned off speed governor so it can go over 100 mph if needed for passing. Also set park and drive idle to 550 rpm so it burns leas fuel at stop lights.
