Hey Scotty!! I just bought a 2001 Grand Marquis Ls with only one problem , the wheels make a clacking noise when i make left turns and accelerate , how do i fix it???
Scotty , I bought a used 2009 Toyota Sequoia so far I am feeling quite comfortable driving this car ,, Can you please make a video about Toyota Sequoia including the advantages and disadvantages,,? Thank you
@@Kauffman578 After about 4 years I traded the older one in for a new Expo with captions chairs and a fold down disappearing third row seat. It was great for long road trips with the kids. Sold it because the kids are grown and no longer needed a large and gas hungry SUV.
I bought a 2007 Expedition EL 4x4 with 200,000 miles. It had a perfect CarFax that showed it was serviced every 5,000 miles at the dealership. I drove it for 3 years and gave it to my son with 240,000 miles. It's still going strong. The only issue is both rocker panels rusted out in the Michigan winters.
I paid 6k for my 02 Expedition EB in '08 with 108k miles. Now she has 320k miles and still runs great. Major repairs have been an intake and rear differential only.
I know this is an old comment, but we are currently looking at a 2007 Eddie Bower edition, with 190k miles for $6k. We are in the northeast, so rust is *always* a big deal. But if we can get them in decent shape, undercoating is a blessing. I don’t like newer cars. I like to buy older with cash, then drive them for a decade or more. I would be able to buy this SUV, and keep driving it for another decade.
Currently driving the family car since my parents dont use it. Its 2003 with 160k miles. Weve gone to mexico in it for 9 years straight, the drive is 36hrs. Still works great
My family had a 07 Ford Expedition and we bought it used in 2012 at 123,000 miles and we drove it from Nashville Tennessee to Anchorage Alaska in 12 days and it gave us no problems. Just three weeks ago she blew a gasket at 270,000 miles and had no prior problems. Actually sad to see it go, most reliable vehicle we owned.

I have 2008 highlander .. And dude does not have any problems, it is really powerful comfortable and it's quite fast not saying anything about space i can fit all my classmates in there
I’ve had two...first one was totaled in a wreck at 157k, bought another, put 178k on it and then sold it to a friend who still uses it for a work truck. Great vehicles in my experience. 👍
Thanks Scotty. I wondered what the acceptable Long Term Fuel trim should be on an older car. I always learn something from you. You've saved me a lot of money. So, thank your wife for supporting you in your hard work. You are helping me out.
I would like for scotty to just rank all the cars in the last 20 years on a spreadsheet or something so we can reference it and make a good used car buying choice.
Had a 98’ expedition handed down to be from my father. I wasn’t crazy about the amount of money it crossed to fill up the tank. But, it was one of the most comfortable rides I ever had.
Have 04 Ford Expedition w/5.4 3v still going strong. Has 220k miles w/OG Engine. She’s does tick, but still doing regular Maintenance. Like Scotty said not good fuel mileage, but she does have tons of room. A far as replacing or fixing spark plugs or anything engine bay wise. You’ll have it hard. Theres not a ton of room, but still manageable. I Plan to run this SUV until she’s done. Definitely will install A new engine that’s been updated.
6 months ago bought a 2013 Expedition Limited 75k miles for $13,500 with a $55,700 sticker "and it has the updated 5.4. Best SUV I've ever owned. At that price I was able to pay cash for the first time in my life.
Glad you are ok - 5- yrs + ago- I got hit from tha Back - I was at a dead stop waiting to turn left . Big 3/4 Ford Truck loaded hit me... totaled my 98’ Honda . Back seat was at the back of my Head 😳 I walked away ...
Mileage: I can get 20 - 22 mpg over the road, if I keep it on cruise control at 70mph. Above, it quickly sinks to 16 when I push it to 80 to 85. Just change the oil every 5000 miles; the 5.4 L engine is prone to oil passage blockage from sludge. Keep the insides clean, use full synthetic and a new oil filter every 5K. It just may last forever.
The Expedition has the rear hatch while the Excursion has swing doors with a hatchback like glass. 7.3 Diesel will get better mpg and is Fords best diesel. Easier to put a lift on the Excursion with the solid axles. Love the rear hatch of the Expedition (glass goes up also). 3v 5.4L like this one has more engine issues compared to the old 2v.
I never had problems with the 4wd system on my Expedition. And I can but wonder if scotty has ever driven in snow. As someone who has driven trucks and SUVs that have both 4wd and 2wd modes, it makes a huge difference. And 4wd does help cornering and braking in snow. Its been proven in testing.
I have 2 expeditions. A 2002 and a 2005. They have been great and reliable vehicles. The 2002 lost its transmission around 160k miles and the 2005 lost it's at about 145k. Both towed a 4500 pound boat in the mountains which I'm sure has contributed to the failed transmissions, but both engines still run great with the transmission being the onlyissue.
This is right around the time Ford finally started getting things right with the 5.4 V8. I’ve seen quite a few of these with well over 200k miles and even some with more than 300k.
Sure they can have problems. I had an 06 f150, wasn’t perfect but got almost 200k miles out of it before I got rid of it. Only time it left me stranded was the starter at 185k. Feel bad for those that weren’t as lucky!
I use a 2010 SSV Expedition at a towing company for a roadside assistance vehicle. It was bought at government auction from a fire department where it accumulated about 75,000 hard miles. Even came with the red lights and emergency stuff on it. Now it runs 12 hour+ shifts in the snow, mud and super cold and hot weather alike. Has about 900 lbs of tools and equipment on it including a 12k lb winch for pulling vehicles out of ditches or off road recoveries, and it's occasionally used for towing trailers as well. It's a beast of a truck. It goes where others can't, and it even has mud tires on it. I'd take driving it over the tow trucks any day, and the tow trucks are almost brand new! Very solid, and dependable vehicle.
My daily driver is a 07 expedition SSV with the column shifter. I brought it in 2019 from auction. The interior is just the basic beige color, it didn't have any Police/Fire dept. Lights. So I have no idea what it was used for previously. It's been awesome though currently has 234K miles
I got an 06 expedition. 166k miles. Only thing to go was my alternator last year. Got it at 60k miles. Hell of a smooth ride. Gas is pretty much like he says; not the best millage. I get ~400 miles to the tank (about 28 gallons)
Recently bought an 2011 Expedition XLT with 73,000 miles for $9600.00. Same deal. Everything runs very well. Only issues are middle seat won't fold down(will repair it eventually) and the weather seals on the doors are poorly. Highly recommend.
My grandfather has a 2006 suburban with almost 300,000 miles on it and the only thing that has been done is oil changes and brakes but other than that the transmission has never been touched. You can’t go wrong with either ford or chevy
I have an 07 Eddie Bauer. My aunt bought it new and sold it to my mom later. My brother inherited it as his first car. He drove it for two years, then I inherited it. It has 3 accidents and 220k miles and still runs excellently. I'd absolutely recommend it to anyone.
The 07 was one of the best years for this truck I've got one with 300k and all original motor and transmission. Hauled a 8000 pound rv trailer through the arizona mountains not one issue
My 1997 Expedition has the 5.4L. 186k miles and I beat the crap out of it when I was in high school never thinking it would be my problem until I brought it from my dad. Engine and trans are still perfect. Ford doesn't play around with the quality of their SUVs.
Agreed. From what I heard from Volt owners, they just plugged it into a regular 120v socket at home. They said the gas engine would maybe kick in once a week. And long trips were no problem because of the gas engine. GM probably spent a billion dollars on this thing and then dropped it. All the RD costs and manufacturing costs were paid for. Just like Scotty says, they could have slowly improved it over time.
Coming from a family Navigator owner (Literally same thing) if you can afford it, I’d recommend getting 2010 or newer. Seems that’s when Ford fixed all of the issues on the Expedition/Navigator. My Dad used to have an 08 Navigator and the rear left suspension broke 3 times in a time period of 3 months. Also had lot’s of other issues I can’t remember. We sold it for a 2014 Navi. It’s got an extra 10 horsepower, transmission is more smooth, and it’s a lot more reliable.
Change the transmission fluid every 30k miles, watch out for cam phasers (diesel sounding engine), be prepared for blend door actuators to fail (temp control and buried in the dash), a few other issues. Good luck.
derekisthematrix Thank you very much. Already did some research and find out about the cam phasers and the spark plug issue. Right now I can’t figure out why it only lets me fill it up 3/4 of a tank. After that I have to keep pressing the nozzle little by little if I want to fill it up all the way.
2002 Expediaton since 2012. 4R100 transmission was a plus to me. It has blowen 2 of its spark plugs out but repaired. One coil on plug replaced. Overall, 2v 5.4 is OK. $10000 96,000 Miles, 162000 now. I got B1261 code so A/C isn't blowing cold all the time when sun sensor is shorted. Paid for, priceless. I can buy a lot of gas for a car payment cost. And I can play my cassettes and CDs yet in the radio.
Mom drove one of these in the same color with Eddie Bauer. Was stopped at a light. Saw the person behind her not stopping. She jumped the curb and mowed over the shrubs. Only clipped the corner. Enough to total the expedition. Mom walked away. Driver in front of her left in an ambulance.
Me and my wife both have an 03 . Hers has 390,000 mine has 268000. They are great SUV’s. We’ve used them just like a pick-up with rear seats folded down. 4.6 Ltr gas mileage isn’t bad either so long and your not gunning it from light to light.
I have a 2004 Ford Focus 278,000 MILES 75% city miles I Still have de original transmission shifting like a dream and original engine maintanance by the book, now on the other hand i drove a 2007 YARIS with 84,000 miles and the engine was running ruff above 4500 RPM , my focus engine is smoother with almost 300k on board
steve james frame looks very good in terms of rust , a good friend of mine has a 2003 toyota hylander and his frame is way worse than mine underneath, almost to scary and dangerous to be on the road
Scotty, I want you to know that I bought the Rocket Socket using your link. Glad I watched the video where you mentioned it. I was dealing with rusty bolts under the exhaust manifold and the rocket socket helped me get the job done!
Such a spotty engine. Mine has 300k on it with original timing equipment. But likewise bought one for my son with 80k on it and the equipment went out at 88k
5.4L have there faults like any other engines, I don't understand the hate about them... Every engine has problems, even Toyota built cars that has problems, *cough* older generation Prius, Camry and Corolla for a couple years. I have one myself 06 Expedition 185k on the clock... Only major I would say is the flywheel going out a couple times, other than that mines has been dead reliable. You gotta take care of them, that's all. I'm never getting rid of that SUV until it dies, nobody wants that gutless older 4.6 and 5.4. lackluster
Woah woah woah! Hang on there Scottie Does it have the 4.6L if so your good if not then it has the 5.4L which is a bad engine design and has issues with the Cam Phasers and spark plugs blowing out. You need to make another video talking about the Ford 5.4.
@@back2roots779 After 2008 they fixed the plugs getting stuck in the 5.4's. The cam phasers or vct or whatever they do have issues too. But still they are nice suv's.
I have a sonic with 47k miles as a second vehicle. They are perfect examples of gm quality (lack of) today. The good news is that there are plenty of parts, engines, and transmissions for them lol
I Got a straight 6 E53 BMW X5 with Over 100k Miles Being Used In Nigeria and I still got Factory Gear / Transmission and all Functions Working Fine and I drive it Everyday. No Major Fixes and A Fantastic 235HP performer. With a BMW prestige. That to Me Is The Best within That Budget.
Damn that had to been the most clean underbody I've seen for a ford exloder. Here in Illinois aka salt bucket winters, they are rusted through EVERYWHERE!
My personal reason for not picking up a full EV is not just because i think the lowest range of an EV should be atleast 600 miles (967 km) but if or rather when you get stranded because it probably going to happen to some. You cant just bring a spare jerry can and get up to 100+ miles in an instant but you have to tow the car what ever happens. You cant just bring a small powerplant or new battery if you run out. Living in more open areas and difficult terrain doesnt mix well when you suddenly need a tow to get to an outlet. I like the idea of hybrids more
I picked up a 2008 RX350 last year with 74k miles on it. It drives like it’s only a few months old. I mean it’s a Toyota. My wife has a 2022 RAV4 and says she wants to trade cars. Although initially I was having issues with squeaking. Turned out the engine and tranny mounts were going bad.
I love my 07 Eddie Bauer Expedition. 230,000 miles on it. I bought it with 135,000 on it. Original motor and transmission on it. I'd keep it, but we are moving from the South to WI and I really want something smaller and AWD.
had a friend about 2 or so years ago who had one, his grandparents gave it to him completely MINT, too bad the dude absolutely beat it to death... thing was a blast while it lasted.
I just bought a 2012 Expedition King Ranch with only 39k miles that looks like it just rolled off of the assembly line. I'm planning on changing the oil every 3k miles and just bought a new transmission filter and will replace the fluid that's in the pan. I probably paid too much, but I wanted one with low miles.
Props to the dude for getting 19.5 mpg. I bought a Chevy Trailblazer with an I6 that has about 300 horsies and I normally get about 16/17 combined, but it's also 4x4.
Woohooo, thats the car I drive (except 2010) and my choice gets the Scotty seal of approval! Mine came with the bad entertainment center,(I'll never fix it), one burnt out retracting running board motor (I took out the passenger running board) and shattered cheap plastic moonroof hardware (fixed it water tight but I'll never open it because it's fragile). I only paid $2700 for mine and its got 4WD (I'll only use that if it snows and in NJ it didn't last year).
Are there still issues with 2007 or newer Ford Expedition V8 engines. Ford went through some big-dollar repair issues with their V8, I believe one issue was their cam phasers. Have those and other issues been solved with the 2007 and newer Ford V8's?
Oh man, I love this video. I have a 2003 Expedition Eddie Bauer with only 88K on it. Still runs good. Bought it in '06 with 61K on it. Same color too. Still had the window sticker in the glove box, $43K. I got it for $17K.
Wow, didn't Ford have one of their biggest set backs ever with the 5.4 3V motors? Infamous for cam phaser and timing chain issues, as well as the spark plugs blowing out of the heads. Come on Scotty, dig deeper. "2009-2010 The 5.4 -liter V8 improved in 2009, fixing the cam phaser issues and all but eliminating the spark plug problems."

My grandfather has a 2006 suburban with almost 300,000 miles on it and the only thing that has been done is oil changes and brakes but other than that the transmission has never been touched. You can’t go wrong with either ford or chevy
Everybody gangsta until the car stops shifting like a dream
and Stops running like a top
Keye Haze and the AC stops blowing freezing cold air
And becomes an endless money pit
fattyatemetoo "And when the air suspension goes out on one of these things" OOOOOOOOH-WEEEEEEEEEE
That makes me a gangsta then. My 02 Celica with 392k miles is still shifting like a dream and my ac still blowing arctic cold. 😆
My mom has the exact same one! 350k miles so far with no problems!
I have one, I have 327k miles on it with stock tabs and engine. Anything done to it is all maintenance. Great car
When I bought my '10 EL 7 years ago I drove the '10 & an '08. Despite them looking almost identical, the difference in ride was unreal.
Yes! Scotty Kilmer finally approves an Expedition. My family has one, but older.
Change the Oil on the 3-valve V-8s more often, it demands it. Don't skip on one
"Its hot as Hades in here" 😂😂😂😂
A month ago I bought a 07 expedition EL Limited with 100k miles for 4,200!!! Really nice truck, I love it!
After that I have to keep pressing the nozzle little by little if I want to fill it up all the way.
i payed 2300 for mine. from Michigan. a little rusty from the body. the frame still good. the engine and transmision are in perfect condition too!
Had an 09 nav, bought at 105k, traded it 3 yrs later at 160k for an 18 expedition. Wife and I loved both. Miss them both to pieces.
I have the navigator version of this car. It's a great vehicle
I have a 2011 Ford expedition XLT 5.4L V8 used with 98,500 miles now it has 264,356 miles and it’s still running smooth
Thst launch probably took his mpg from 19.5 to like 14
Lol😅
Ya, not a race car AT ALL. It's great for trips with my 4 kids & 2 dogs.
Zettec engine and 4 speed automatic transmision
what's it like underneath lol..like swiss cheese i bet
steve james frame looks very good in terms of rust , a good friend of mine has a 2003 toyota hylander and his frame is way worse than mine underneath, almost to scary and dangerous to be on the road
My mother rented a 2017 Expedition that was very similar to this one. It was very comfortable.
Love Ford Expeditions they have been the best sub trucks, I’ve ever had.
My 2003 Expedition was reliable, I could rely on the AC to fail reliably
Are the 2003 or not?
The spark plugs breaking on the 3 valve engines are a pain in the a$$ along with the cam phasers...
Otherwise they are pretty good vehicles.
Yeah he didn’t mention the fact that after 100k there is a good chance you will need a new engine very soon.
Buy a 09 they redesign the thread and sparkplug
@@marshallkobe 169k 4.6l 3v here. Smooth running
@@BPatches701 must be previous generation. This gen only came with the notoriously bad 3V 5.4L V8
@@derekisthematrix I have a 2010 f150 actually.
Scotty, I want you to know that I bought the Rocket Socket using your link. Glad I watched the video where you mentioned it. I was dealing with rusty bolts under the exhaust manifold and the rocket socket helped me get the job done!
This vehicle's best use is to take the 5'2" wife and the two kids to the grocery store and to school in the mornings.
Hehehe yes! I'm also 5'2" and it's my fav large suv to drive HANDS DOWN
Lol my wife is 5'2
So is mine! I think this is a standard. “That store is 120 wives away from here”
I beat you! My wife is 5’0” on a good day 😂… anyway I’m looking at a 2013 for myself. Kind of nervous as I’ve never had a Ford before. Just Toyotas
I'm glad I came across this. I have been looking at used Expeditions...
Did you end up purchasing one??
@@veronicadubin3077 Yes, 2014 Expedition EL and loVe it.
i recently picked up a 04 expedition EB for 3 grand, i'm staying away from the 5.4L 3 valve
As you should 👍
Exactly! He spoke nothing about the Cam Phasers or Spark Plugs. If it's a 4.6L then it won't have those issues at all but he needs to say that.
I'm never getting rid of that SUV until it dies, nobody wants that gutless older 4.6 and 5.4. lackluster
385k miles on my 97 expedition and the trans is just now starting to slip its about time the expy got a little love
Hi Scotty how are you and your wife and stay safe and have a good day keep up the good videos
Love the old school Ford Expedition 2000-2010
Woah woah woah! Hang on there Scottie Does it have the 4.6L if so your good if not then it has the 5.4L which is a bad engine design and has issues with the Cam Phasers and spark plugs blowing out. You need to make another video talking about the Ford 5.4.
It doesn't have a problem with spark plugs blowing out. They commonly break when you replace them.
@@back2roots779 After 2008 they fixed the plugs getting stuck in the 5.4's. The cam phasers or vct or whatever they do have issues too. But still they are nice suv's.
Thx Scotty for keeping it real 🙂
I have a sonic with 47k miles as a second vehicle. They are perfect examples of gm quality (lack of) today. The good news is that there are plenty of parts, engines, and transmissions for them lol
We have a 2000 with over 280,000 miles. We've had the trans done twice but still going strong.
Had 2 of these beasts and would buy another one in a heartbeat...
Hi Scotty. Thanks for all the videos.
hello, thank you!
I like those suvs thanks for reviewing one Scotty👍
Damn that had to been the most clean underbody I've seen for a ford exloder. Here in Illinois aka salt bucket winters, they are rusted through EVERYWHERE!
Owner has taken care of it
like he said...he's in texas. Low humidity and prob zero salt from (zero) snowy winters 🤷♀️. Vastly diff than what the east coast does to cars 😁
You need a clip art pop up on my mother in law at
2:04 “ she’s showing her age “ and
2:26 “ she’s got a big rear end “
why are inlaws such garbo all the time
Yeah, should have shown Kardashian at 2:26.
@@robertromero8692 @2:25 I was waiting for Scotty to post a PAWG Meme.
I like the idea of hybrids more
I have a 1998 4.6L v8 expedition and it runs like a beast 💪
This guy actually took care of this SUV, most likely a highway driven vehicle, check out the 2005-10 RX330/350 Lexus SUV, we are looking for one
Nice car 🚗
I picked up a 2008 RX350 last year with 74k miles on it. It drives like it’s only a few months old. I mean it’s a Toyota. My wife has a 2022 RAV4 and says she wants to trade cars. Although initially I was having issues with squeaking. Turned out the engine and tranny mounts were going bad.
I love my 07 Eddie Bauer Expedition. 230,000 miles on it. I bought it with 135,000 on it. Original motor and transmission on it. I'd keep it, but we are moving from the South to WI and I really want something smaller and AWD.
I got an 03 with 35's, it has 170k. It's a BeAsT in 4 low off road!!! Love it! I don't think I'd want anything different.
My cousin just put his 2008 expedition up for sale. It had done 300 thousand miles with no problems.
I own one 10 out of 10 great for its time I recommend and those expeditions have the best base you can ever get without putting different speakers in
had a friend about 2 or so years ago who had one, his grandparents gave it to him completely MINT, too bad the dude absolutely beat it to death... thing was a blast while it lasted.
I had an 1993 explorer for awhile. Great vehicle, can go anywhere.
I bought a 1998 Expedition-Eddie Bauer edition- for just $2000, over 2yrs ago! It's a gas guzzler but it can do everything my hybrid can't!
Nice to see a customer with a reasonably clean vehicle
I just bought a 2012 Expedition King Ranch with only 39k miles that looks like it just rolled off of the assembly line. I'm planning on changing the oil every 3k miles and just bought a new transmission filter and will replace the fluid that's in the pan. I probably paid too much, but I wanted one with low miles.
My wife put 185k miles on her Expodition and it was running good when she sold it.
Props to the dude for getting 19.5 mpg. I bought a Chevy Trailblazer with an I6 that has about 300 horsies and I normally get about 16/17 combined, but it's also 4x4.
I have the SSV 4x4 version of the 2010 Expedition. It averages 14.5-15 mpg.
Just keep a lookout for the lovely cam phasers.
I’m gonna have to google it but if you could provide additional details, that’d be great!
I’m test driving a 2013 later today
Thanks for the break in this 4 month continuant Monday, Scotty!! Take Care!
No complaints about the 5.4 V8? Curious
02 or early 03 7.3 is the engine of choice if one knows a fair and competent Diesel Mechanic. I do, that's why I own one.
I got the same model few months ago, planning to keep it al least for four years.
Are there still issues with 2007 or newer Ford Expedition V8 engines. Ford went through some big-dollar repair issues with their V8, I believe one issue was their cam phasers. Have those and other issues been solved with the 2007 and newer Ford V8's?
Glad to see this one isn’t a piece of crap and an endless money pit. Thanks, Scotty!
Oh man, I love this video. I have a 2003 Expedition Eddie Bauer with only 88K on it. Still runs good. Bought it in '06 with 61K on it. Same color too. Still had the window sticker in the glove box, $43K. I got it for $17K.
Is the 2003 good?
Wow, didn't Ford have one of their biggest set backs ever with the 5.4 3V motors? Infamous for cam phaser and timing chain issues, as well as the spark plugs blowing out of the heads. Come on Scotty, dig deeper. "2009-2010 The 5.4 -liter V8 improved in 2009, fixing the cam phaser issues and all but eliminating the spark plug problems."
They are not the best engine Ford made. With the proper maintenance and oil changes every 3K miles they can go. I know because I own one!
I have a 2011 expedition the trans just went out. I love driving it
What mileage did the tranny go out? And did you replace the trans fluid before that? I’m considering a 2013 Expedition that I’ll be test driving today
Another great video Scotty!
I paid $3K for an Eddie Bauer version with less than 100K miles. Can't beat the value for money! I bought for towing big boat.
