      That’s actually very untrue depending on the vehicle. You can buy a fox somewhat cheap. If you mod it to 700hp you’re going to get a lot of your money back. Someone with money doesn’t want to do those mods, that doesn’t care about it matching, and anyone who knows a fox will pay money for one with good parts and and high hp. Coyote? Waste of time and money. I paid 3500 for mine, and I guarantee that if I put in a $3,500 t56 and a 500hp ($11,000) 427 stroker, that I could get $20,000 or more for it.

    The best way to go about it is to work on each part of the car as a separate project and then drive the car in between each project. Upgrade the fuel system, 8.8 swap (older cars), hydroboost conversion, bigger brakes, cowl hood, suspension, etc. The last thing I would do is the coyote swap. The common denominator in all my buddies failed projects is biting off more than they could chew. They take the car apart, realize the magnitude, and then stop working on the car. Years ago I completed a Maximum Motorsports suspension swap on my 96 and I am currently sourcing parts for an 8.8 swap and hydroboost conversion on my 85. The difference is, I still drive my cars and they aren't just a pile of parts sitting in the garage. Mike Dula has a channel, "House of Dula", and he breaks it down into separate projects. 50 tussin is another good channel.

    I’m the original owner of a 91 gt convertible. For years I had a 306ci with a Vortech s-trim and a host of other drivetrain and chassis mods.
    Until in late 2010, I had a engine fire that luckily did not roast the entire car.
    Thankfully I had a good insurance policy on it and I wanted to get it fixed. The guy at the body shop suggested to go with the new coyote motor that was just coming out in the 2011s.
    I knew this was not going to b easy because of this being a never before done swap.
    I had some issues with the car when I got it back that took years to straighten out. I almost regret doing the swap until I get in and do 7g shifts with my automatic and listen to that motor scream!

    Thanks for being honest and transparent. I did a Terminator swap in my 93 coupe, and it took me 3 years. I'm happy with the end result, but I will NEVER do another swap again due to budget busted, clearance issues, opportunities to upgrade other components in order to support the massive increase in power from oem.

  • @Multi68stang

    I think what a lot of people don’t understand is that a lot of the cost of a Coyote swap is not actually in swapping the 5.0 into the car but insuring the rest of the car can survive the power of the new motor. IMO no matter what motor it is, when you start pushing over 400rwhp you will need to start digging deep. Brakes, suspension, rear end, fuel lines, driveshaft, transmission, clutch, radiator, etc etc will all need to be either rebuilt or replaced with stronger, better parts.

    • @UrPeaceKeeper
      @UrPeaceKeeper 6 років тому

      110% this. You could probably drop a coyote into a fox for about 6-8 grand if you didn't care about doing it right and addressing the chassis, brakes, and suspension.

    • @black88lx
      @black88lx 5 років тому +1

      None of that truly has any bearing. All of that same stuff needs modifying and replacement as soon as you touch the stock motor anyway. Stock t5 will blow with a stock motor. Fuel system is already maxed stock. Rest needs 31 spline and gears , cooling systems are marginal at best. All of these things will cost you money regardless

    This is why so many cars get sold off half way done because they give up and run out of money. My 1986 notch fox is a perfect example. I wanted an FE Big block and C 6 trans. It's been years of fabrication, mocking up and tearing back down. To get what I wanted. I started with a rough 4 cylinder car with no rust. It's now a nice almost factory looking under the hood bracket car. Most people think it's a 351 because it fits so well. But it's been years in the making.

    I’ve decided a Edelbrock EFI system on a old school motor is much more practical, less headache, and much cheaper. It really makes a nice improvement for old motors. You can easily get coyote power from them and the EFI boosts the mpg up. I saw a guy make a 396 big block go from 11mpg to 16mpg. That’s a major improvement!

  • @jpp9846

    I think the Coyote swap is a badass upgrade for a light Fox body. For me, something like this can wait. The costs in doing so will come down in 5-10 years. I will just enjoy and learn what I have now. But, if I wanted one today, I'd do it exactly the way you did it, get out of the way and have a reputable garage do it for you.

  • @UrPeaceKeeper
    @UrPeaceKeeper 6 років тому +7

    Man... why do coyote swapped foxbody people make this swap seem hard? It really isn't any harder than pulling the 302 to rebuild it. The entire swap is well documented on just about every major mustang forum and Facebook group. The hardest part of the swap is dealing with the "while I'm in here" nonsense that comes with having to mess with wiring, plumbing, HVAC, etc. The amount of custom parts that dont exist on the market already is quite small...
    You want a challenge? 6.2L raptor swap the car... no Ford ECUs with pedals to handle the wiring, no prebuilt exhaust headers, motor mounts, or bracket kits to mount various pumps and really not that big of an aftermarket.
    I'm doing it, the build can be found over on the ProTouring forums in the build section (Sometimes A Great Notion - 1989 Foxbody Mustang Build) and the swap is not super complicated to understand.
    The key to these swaps is planning. As the military says, proper preparation and planning prevents piss poor performance. You minimize the "While I'm in here" with a realistic list of what actually needs done. You can better budget the build with parts that are essential in a certain order. No use buying the power steering pump bracket when you don't have the k member types of things get eliminated with good planning.
    Its definitely not for the mechanically challenged, but if you have any wrench turning ability and the ability to plan and take your time, it's not difficult. Difficult is blazing a trail through the woods on a barely traveled path and documenting it for all to see!
    Also, love my 2015 Mustang GT/PP, but I hate how Coyotes sound. The old flat head V8 firing order ruined the otherwise great modular V8 sound. Glad my 6.2L Raptor motor has the standard modular firing order.

    I just got a fully stock 92 GT convertible and I never really had a fast car. I’m caught up with the fantasy of having a car with so much power. With that being said my car runs and drives fine. 302 with 55k miles. I intend on buying the coyote and transmission. Then slowly but surely sourcing everything I need and installing whatever I can. To minimize cost of labor and parts, as I would have everything needed to get it swapped and running. Does this sound like a good idea or strategy to anyone ?

    i know some folks were at least initially against it - some folks still are against it i think because perhaps they don't understand it - but i honestly _really_ *love* the modular DOHC 4.6L V8 that the Mustang Cobra SVT had from '96-'99 before they even went to the supercharger.... I just _adore_ those engines... they were just beautifully designed and produced so much horsepower without needing to go to a larger displacement simply by using more efficient features with the engine... i really love the 1996-1999 Mustang Cobra SVTs and I would buy one in a second if it was stock and I knew it wasn't dogged like crazy... I love the white ones especially with tan interior... that's kinda like my dream Ford car that isn't a Foxbody of course...
    naturally, there was _so_ much improvement done to the modular V8s with the overhead cams... i think it was done extremely well, and even without a supercharger or turbocharger, the new 302 which i was freaking *overjoyed* about when i heard about it coming out and it has just gotten so much better over time =) of course, like any mustang lover, i adore the Foxbody Mustangs and with them the 302 5.0L engine :) if i could choose a Mustang to buy right now though, in all honesty, because of the very reason @Foxcast Media discussed - i probably _wouldn't_ go for a Foxbody because the stock vehicles are just out of my price range... after all, you can still find some '94s with the 302 even though they aren't Foxbodies; however, you still have that engine and most likely it hasn't been overly modded... The problem with the other Mustang GTs and stuff though is that they only had single overhead cams (SOHC) V8s, which really let us down with the power at about 215hp rated back in 1994 if I'm not mistaken... however, the SVT Cobra still used the GT40 heads with high airflow and they worked really nicely with that 5.0L engine as they had since 1993 of course.
    that's one reason I would probably get a '96-'99 Mustang Cobra SVT because i simply *adore* them - their body style, their lines, and everything... i just love them. i mean, it isn't like i would buy that car and then go right to some sort of modification! i really would want to keep it as stock as possible... the exhaust is lovely, so i would want to keep that just as it was from the factory as well as the heads, the cams, valves, springs, etc... so, i mean, i would love to find one that someone had done some modifications to and bring it back to stock or find one that was kind of messed up by a younger guy who just loved speed and then take some appropriate steps to rebuild the engine, put some nice performance parts that would keep it classy and allow me to have one of my real dream cars :) the other real dream cars of mine are the G Body Buick GNXs especially from 1987-89; however, those are way out of any price range... i actually saw an SVT Cobra from 1999 for only $14,750. i would pay that tomorrow if i could find another one like that LOL :D

    I've been watching you for some time. Your car is awsome and I'm glad u had the budget to build your dream fox. That being said here's where I am on this. I will take one point u made a little farther. I dont think any v8 car should be used especially rare and survivors. Especially what Dover is doing going around and snatching up cars for swaps to sale he should only use 4 bangers and here's why. Like u said the v8 fox is getting harder and harder to find most have been wrecked or turned into race cars. I have a 90 lx hatch. It's in need of restoration but a survivor completely stock. I do plan on building a new engine and it's a slugomatic so a 5speed is in its future but the car will remain a pushrod fuel injection car. What all the pushrod haters dont get is these were the cars that bridge the gap between old school pushrod power and new school technology " the full on fuel injection and a computer controlling the engine. But also bc of the firing order not being regular 5.0. The h.o engines had a 351 firing order not a 302 like the non h.o so it breathing threw a set of flow masters has a unique sound only a 5.0 h.o has. They just sound bad ass. The coyote swap is awsome it has its advantages for sure more power with better mpg if I put over 400 hp in my pushrod it would drink gas like crazy compared to a stock coyote putting out that much. But that's my opinion and I guess if all of you swap coyotes in them then that will just make the value of mine go up.lol like what u do brother keep it up. And what 5 lug swap did u use that's one thing I plan to do

      I'm inclined to agree. I wish I had left my 5.0 notch stock and bought something less rare to build. Not that it's not a fun car, I love driving her. But with the market for a notch these days, I should have found a 4 cyl notch or hatch to build

    I've recently inherited my dad's bone stock down to the air box 1991 5.0l LX. The car has 126k original miles. My dad brought the car home in 1992 and it was the car I've measured every car against throughout my life! I took my driver's test in this car in 1995.... But I'm torn.
    The way the car sits now it's a solid 8.5/10 and even the original paint is in good shape ( garaged car it's entire life ), but the original 302 and automatic trans are so outdated it makes me want to swap for the coyote or even an LS. I don't know if I want to just restore it to perfect original, hop the original 302 up with some gt40 parts during a rebuild, or completely go hog wild with a swap :/

    exactly you can take fox five liter to the high 12s on motor alone , add in a super charger or a turbo and you are well into the 11s that is plenty fast enough for your average street racer weekend drag car

    I think a coyote fox would be awesome, but I don’t pretend to have the skill/resources available to do that job myself. I’d rather cut my teeth on a 302 based striker build or something like that first, then later down the line after I’ve learned a few things, maybe decide to go full swap.

    Great and awesome channel! Love the passion! I am debating whether or not to go all-in with my 1993 or not. I do want to tear it right down to the Uni-Body and frame up build. It is a Power Window, Door, and Sunroof - all of which I want to DELETE. So, change of doors and a roof fill in (tips for that?) and turn into a street car running Hillclimb events. It's super tough to decide as a S550 PP2 is looking more utilitarian to start with for my purposes... though I love my Fox, had this one for 6 years.

Im already half way through my Coyote engine and I'm barely at 5k. Its all about looking at the best options and what you have in mind as far as what you want OUT of the coyote engine.

    So it would probably be cheaper to do a mild big block Ford stroker build. That's where I was headed with the scat rotating assembly. It's a 460 with the 554 stroker. (.30 over so a 514 or somewheres round there) I just want decent horsepower with brute torque. Don't can't care that it's 700+ lbs. Just want big reliable power. anyways love your channel keep um coming. we appreciate you. take her easy. keep it between the ditches 👍👍

    The Swap everyone wanted was the 351W. It required the rest of the Fox platform to be upgraded to sustain real torque and balanced horsepower; brakes, fuel system, drive train, and suspension all require that NEXT STEP to make a palatable all of the time 400 horsepower Beast. I have two 351W's... one is so stock the heads have never been off the block, and the other is a punched and stroked 432. Trust me.... most of you require nothing more than a 100% stock 351W truck block with a Blower. Anything else and you would kill yourselves.

      @@fordtechlife ya I figured it out thanks...… had to do some more google picture searching. it is the factory links. so they are the big rubber rectangular blocks. the wire inside those blocks is the fusible link 2inches long at most. so no need to open up the harness at all.
      The ones you get from the auto parts store are the long wire looking fusible links. so was not sure. glad I didn't open up the factory harness for nothing. :) I will do a live video or something on it to hopefully help others in the future.
