You may have helped me in deciding to stick with the rebuild of another 351 windsor...(came in my used 1989 convertible) ... I had the car for 6 years. Drove it for 2 months. Has sat since the motor overrevved...
Then I responded to an ad for a mechanic that could rebuild my motor ....it has been a while and I have not been communicated with as far as what needs to be replaced. I bought the car wanting to replace the top (I used to do these prior) ...the top never got replaced cuz money went to groceries...
So the car sits with no motor...i wanna get this car running with a new top and stereo ....but it has been a bunch of setbacks.
I'm regretting buying this car now cuz I have 10 grand in a car that just sits.
That being said... I will eventually get this thing together...
    Thanks for sharing your experience!

I understand the appeal of doing a Coyote swap, the engines make great power and it's a great place to start for future mods. And when they're done right they look and run great. But given the cost and headache involved I'll stick with old school pushrod V8s. You can meet or excede coyote #s with a power adder or stroker build.

I echo those brake sentiments so much.
I had a lightly modded (3.73's, BBK cold air, BBK TB, Mac catback, underdrives)1990 GT hatch in Germany when stationed there.
You get it out on the autobahn (A6and A7 freizones for me) and you learn several things.
#1. German cars are geared better for autobahn pulls. Even if they have the same amount of power, our "acceleration-focused" gearing and comparatively short freeway onramps here in the states necessitate different gearing, they will pull on you by just having longer legs on the top end.
#2. You can literally cook 1979-1993 Fox Body brakes with ONE SERIOUS STOP from ~150mph around a long sweeping corner, into a "stau" ("traffic stoppage on the autobahn"), or when a little Fiat Punto pulls out from in front of a big-rig while you're cooking along @ 130mph in the left lane.
Oddly, the drums always seemed to cool down and "work" (used loosely, as that's how they function stock), but I can tell you for sure I had to go to on-post auto parts store probably 4 times to order brakes from the US, driving around on warped rotors for about a week at a time.
    They're so god-awfully bad.

With all the good EFI systems available for old motors I’m not so sure I need to do a coyote swap anymore. Edelbrock EFI seems to work really well for people. On guy with a 396 big block went from 11mpg to 15.5mpg with the EFI swap alone. That’s a huge improvement!! I didn’t know how far the aftermarket EFI has come until lately. It’s probably a whole lot less trouble to EFI a 302 or 351 for a Mustang than the coyote swap

    • @midnight347
      @midnight347 Рік тому

But even with the best heads cam intake setup it won't make the peak or Rev as far as a stock coyote and you're limited to 500ish if you go boost the gen 1 coyote can do 700 stock long block and the gen 2 800-900 is considered fairly safe with good fuel and tune.

I t has been my experience (I have done many Frankenswaps), that if you took the money you have in your swap( can't forget the initial vehicle price), you could just buy the car/truck you want. Example: Early '90s fox body that is rust free-$3000, coyote from a mustang-$4000, Cost of swap-$10k(anyone who has done multiple engine swaps knows why I said that number), Total- $17k. you can buy a nice '15 to '17 Mustang GT for that, and you didn't spend a huge chunk of your life doing it.

There is actually 5 different kinds of gen 1 coyote, and 9 different coyotes total from Gen 1 to Gen 3. The Gen 2 and Gen 3 Coyotes actually use the Boss 302 Gen 1 design for the Block, crank, rods, cams.
    11 to 12 - has oil squirter (mustang/F150)
    13 to 14 - oil squirter removed(F150/Must)

Not hating love the car, but this must be your first build, everything you mentioned had to be thought of first or be done in stages, if you wing it as you go that’s when you have issues, Good luck with the car

I've always felt that stock brakes where adequate as long as the engine was stock.

Foxcast Media exactly I always lag back on the freeway for that reason because if I need to suddenly stop I need room to stop and downshift to get help with engine braking.

People give up due to time. Once everything starts to slow down, it’s hard to look at your car and know it won’t run anytime soon.. & then life happens so unexpected expenses will push everything further back. After that, selling it will seem more beneficial

Being from California, I would like to Add, be sure to check with your State DMV concerning there Swaping Engine Laws! For example in California you can't swap a Truck Motor into a Car that was Designed for a non-truck motor car! FROM the factory! Also the Engine you use for your Swap has to be the same year or newer of the Car you are doing the swap on!
Now, this only applies to cars built from 1976 and Newer in California or for California!! We have mandatory smog check every 2 years! Also California pasted a new law for newer cars, I believe from 2011 to newer Cars to extend the 2 yr. mandatory smog check by exempting them from 6 to 8 years! :-) Because they didn't pollute the air as bad as the older cars! So Beware and God Bless!

Meh, it will live if you don't put sticky tires on it, but don't expect to shift in the higher RPM range where the coyote shines
