      I can confirm, working hard on a daily! unless he's on a rare vacation, that is.
      but he works like nine, ten hour shifts and uploads about half an hour long video about this on a daily! you can see them when you either become a member on UA-cam or support him on Patr3on. what you get back for doing so is plain crazy! and the amount of thought that goes into making this part is also super crazy! the blueprint looks complicated beyond believe and it's not obvious and straight forward how to even make it possible. so, so many things to consider; starting with threads that are uncommon, structural decisions that are questionable in the original part and can be improved, the ball joint needs to be hardened (so much to consider for this process alone; he made a test piece and it's a two state process with different temperatures that need to be correct and he tested whether to do this "bare," or wrap the piece in literal tin foil [don't remember what exactly this had been, but steel, I believe; it looked like aluminum foil, but that wasn't what it was]), then he needed to verify the result with a special machine his friend owns.) how to make every single shape is like a brain teaser on its own, but you can't cheat if you don't figure it out, because there's nowhere to look up the answer. sometimes the "play" (if that's the correct word) of his machines make the piece go out of tolerance, sometimes things bend a little while machining it so that the result isn't symmetrical, like drilling a hole-you see, the things to consider and source for troubles is endless! so much that can (and will) go wrong and sometimes, you've conflicting goals. the in-depth process required to make only one such relatively tiny piece is mind bending! imagine when he's finished-he'll know the molecular composition of all fuel lines (because it caused issues welding them), where every single bracket sits, how it's made and what thread the screws are, holding them in place; in short: there'll probably be no other person on this planet who knows his car better than my mechanics!
      sometimes, people from the comments have an idea, but when he then tries it, the physical dimensions and capabilities of his machines make it not possible nonetheless.
      so, it's not like in the olden days where people could say, "I use fire and a hammer and brute f0rce until everything's the way I want it to be." this type of machining takes genius level of creativity!

    • @HxTurtle
      @HxTurtle 7 днів тому +3

      watching this short again, I just noticed one other thing: there's still a tiny imperfection visible from machining the ball, which is more complicated a process than people might think (it's done with a drill.) the final result isn't smooth, but rather coarse, so he needs to sand it smooth afterwards; but this also means that he needs to make the ball bigger, because sanding takes a bit off; he made a test piece to measure such things. but that's still not it! when sanding, the piece rotates; but not all points of the surface rotate at the same speed! which means that if he doesn't take special care and takes this into account by adapting the timing, you end up with a shape that's no longer a ball after sanding, because the fastest moving area around the "equator" got sanded down more than the slower moving areas around the "poles."
      every single step requires this level of consideration in order to not "screw up."

    What you’ve added are stress-risers to a ball joint. In other words, concentrated stress points to where load is focus its forces on. So when it eventually breaks, it will be from the area that you cut.
    There’s a reason why we don’t add features to anything experiencing transverse loads.
    In order to reduce or avoid that problem. Round out the cuts. Add fillet to any of the sharp edges. It reduces stress concentration on the cut areas.
    Also, we don’t cut in an X-pattern for a reason. We do circular ring cuts to avoid stress risers.

    because I believe that the screw from this holding apparatus goes right through it; and when you machine the opposing groove, then you rotate the piece in it by 180 degrees.
