I remember the first time I heard this being disappointed when Dave started singing, because up to that point, it was an amazing prog rock instrumental.
Still can't believe it. Waiting to wake up. 😭 Thanks so much for the best music of my life and youth when music made you happy and not mad at the world. ♥️ R.I.P. Edward.
It's amazing that anyone can play that song live, it's a freaking handful. Alex kept it together a couple times. Really miss Anthony's vocals on this one. Tremendous song, tough live. Ed, as always has the chops, will continue to miss him.
Correct correct correct Wolfie doesn't fit in at all I don't hear his bass I don't hear his vocals he doesn't have the stage presence he's just some fat diabetic kid riding on his dad's coattails Roth looks great by the way at a superficial level incredible for zaide could pass for many years younger but the voice is clearly already shot. Thanks. After seeing them, i could see just following them around the country. They are on fire right now, and DLR seems to also be getting better every night too.
30 years later and not only are they ALIVE they still kick ass! Wolfie chose the set lists for each tour 2007 and 2012. What frosted Eddie about Michael Anthony is the fact he toured with Hagar as the other half other half of what? The other half of Van Halen is Alex in Eddies eyes!!! Too bad they can't find a way back.
Nah! I think the audience is that stunned at how good this is that they just want to soak it all up & listen!! This is amazing & KING EVH's solo is as close if not better than the album version!!! WOW!!!
Van Halen is far an above any band out today or in the past.Eddie's playing revolutionized guitar playing just like hendrix did in the sixties.VH ruled in late seventies and early eighties like no other band of that time.Alex is so under rated as a drummer and even though Dave is not the greatest singer he's by far the greatest frontman.Name me another frontman who did flying leaps twenty feet in the air or worked the crowd they way he did.Their music is like a freight train get out of the way.
Who said he was mad? He just said that Mike's vocals are what makes Van Halen go. I saw this tour and loved it, but he's right. It's not a slam at Wolfie to say that Mike's vocals are SORELY missed.
Great job! Damn it's great to so Eddie so on top of his game and he looks so healthy. I agree with this being one of my favorite off this album although House of Pain crushes just as much! Long live EDDIE!
I have posted basically everything i shot except for Eddies solo and a few other snippets. I have been searching for the rest and am mixing the entire show on video with what i found. Chinatown was posted by a user named MODULAR461 .
I've been looking for clips of Chinatown and Beuatiful Girls from this show. Can't seem to find any. Would you happen to have those? Maybe you just haven't uploaded them yet? Your clips are by far the best out right now. The audio is quite GOOD! Thank you for posting them!!! -Chris
Is Roth really even participating? It's like he stands there and talks the words and sometimes snaps his fingers. I realize he's not the same DLR as 1981, but c'mon!! Jagger can outmove this clown.
Dave is shot out! Instead of just covering the stage and doing his best with vocals, he is still trying to play the sexy circus ringleader. It has now fallen to cheesy vegas lounge singer and creepy guy at the club. And, in closing, Dave...can you please get that stupid f***ing “OMG ! I’m actually back in the band!” smile off of your face?
notice first two verses Dave sounds great, when he stays in that Range. When he tries to 'reach' he just can't hit it anymore. I'm not sure if it's Dave that's that bad, I think it's the backup singing "Girls Gone Bad" Maybe they couldn't hear the vocals in the monitors or something. Wolfie's not in the right key. but he's still doin' great on bass. I think he slid right in there just fine. Sure , we miss Mike, but he's not gonna play with these guys ever again. So, we move on. Eddie' rocks it as usual, and Alex is still phenomenal, you can hear that right? Great Lineup, This is the year of ADKOT...which is their last great hurrah...Roth, he's my idol, always was, just wish he would stop trying to reach what he can't hit as he's older now, and just stay in the freakin' pocket, ;-)
He’s had some very good performances during the last couple of tours- some of the fair warning tunes I thought he was very good, Dave is Dave though and I’m not sure if he even rehearses what a singer should, he doesn’t seem to take it seriously- he’s hit and miss. However, it’s sad this won’t ever happen again, saw them once in London with Sammy and they were excellent. 1993. 🤘
Fuck we love you ED … Personally I'm just happy to hear this , much better than their doing now... If Ed reads this its no wonder he stays home …. I'd stay home to he's at least Happy now with Wolfie … and Dave's doing fine :)
We know Dave can’t sing anymore and that Wolfe does not sing like Mike , you have to except that, but the band still kicks ass. Awesome performance by Alex too.
Dave is in a parallel universe to VH. A shame that Dave can't/won't operate in the VH universe...If the only way to enjoy this Dave, is to be stupid-drunk, then, hey... No Thanks!
He's in his 60's, the way he partied, plus wear and tear on the body after years of taking abuse jumping around, boozing, drugging etc etc it catches up to you!!! Just think when you completely hammered and you spend next day dying on couch puking everywhere, well DLR would have to go perform again .
Thanks for the offer. I would gladly take you up on that, but i had a drunk girl next to me that talked my ear off and ruined the recording for Kool and the Gang. I really liked the quality of your video. Almost appears that you had a tripod of some sort. What kind of camera were you using?
I got kind of lucky in that i didnt have any screamers, singers, or talkers directly next to me. However my recording of Kool and the Gang is unusable due to a drunk rude-ish chick that would not shut the fuck up. Low sensitivity mics also helped
WOW, that's a nice camera. 16X optical? that's crazy good for a pocket size camera. Do you really need 20X? :-) The sound quality on your videos were pretty good as well. I guess you didn't hear, but on the VH tour, all cameras are allowed, including SLR's. I thought about bringing mine, but i already was doing video & a portable audio setup. SLR would have just been too much.
I suppose in a way it's good to have Eddie Van Halen around. I mean, it doesn't mean that you shouldn't strive. Just makes you realize that you probably won't be able to shoot for being number one.Thirty something years of being the best that ever was, kind of makes it unlikely that you can be up to the challenge.
This is just a great performance from a musical view. i Dave agree is just noodling around but damn hear the rest of the band just nail this track better than ever. On 1984 the bass playing is so weak they probably just mixed into nowhere. But wolfgang knows how to sound like bass!! And actually he sings exactly the same as Mike did on the 1984 tour. no offense to Mike though
Not delusional. I beg to differ that the high harmonies sound awful. You have absolutely nothing of value or constructive to say, that I can see. I loved the new album and loved this concert that i attended and posted online. They may not meet your expectations, but they surpassed mine. Music can be subjective, like beauty. Do not come here to shit all over this video and Van Halen when there are plenty of fans that love the version of VH and the new album, and Wolfie. Goodbye.
Yes somehow Ross fell into an owl Jolson lounge lizard thing he looks great again that's like pretty evident he super took care of himself with the martial arts the diet he probably avoided drugs etc etc cool outfit he looks like a 1960s Gunslinger with a Dennis the Menace haircut. Eddie looks incredible but you're correct he's not always doing the background vocals could have been the lip and mouth cancer. Alex is sounding amazing for a guy pushing sixty here. Wolfie man I don't know I just not feeling it Michael Anthony needs to be back
My first concert in my life was VH in Fort Wayne IN 1980 and haven't missed a tour show since...saw them at Allstate arena Chicago 2012 and have it on DVD and this band has never sounded better live!!!!! I have stayed with the VH brothers through all the drama and must say they have taken the high road and don't run around talking trash about Hagar and his obvious Alcohol problem! They look kind of tired, I love this track and I'm glad to see them finally acknowledge it after 20 something years but Mikes voice not being in it kinda brings it down a little also, maybe this is why they took a break.
Listen to EVERY version of HAIL or WIL on this tour and if you still seriously think Mike's vocals were SORELY missed, than I'm guessing you are tone deaf. The Mike/Sam lovers need to either let it go or just go be fans of Chickenfoot if you miss em so much. Ed and Al are what make VH GO, not a bassist playing 8th notes and singing harmonies. And saying the brothers "held back" MA's playing is hilarious, because his "freedom" in CF has not produced any different bass playing.
Why doesnt it sound quite right ? No michael anthony. This is what happens when you " replace" a founding member. I love wolfie. Isnt his fault. Sheenan would have been the same thing. Good. But not right.
I was there, too. They were amazing. Kool and the Gang weren't all that great in my opinion. The speakers there kinda sucked, too. Otherwise, fantastic show.
The most underrated Van Halen song...and one of their best.
My fave song off 1984 and they nailed it. I do miss Michael in this one. Alex is such an incredible drummer
Absolute masterpiece on guitar
I've always thought this song and Top Jimmy were the two best songs they made that weren't hits. Atomic Punk gets an honorable mention.
Unicorn Steaks This and House of Pain are my favorites on 1984.
Solid choices
From 1984, Girl Gone bad and House of Pain were my favorites without doubt.
I remember the first time I heard this being disappointed when Dave started singing, because up to that point, it was an amazing prog rock instrumental.

Eddie said this is one of his favorite songs and I agree.!!!
I have always loved this song because of its energy and gutar playing. Eddie did it great in this performance...
Alex Van Halen tho?! Killing it and everyone complains about back up vocals...
Absolutely killing it
The original Van Halen should’ve never broken up.
Wolfs backing vocals are actually pretty damn good.
