      Yes exactly and people that were angry at Ed for letting Mike go don’t seem to realize that Wolfgang was the reason that Ed decided to keep touring and recording A different kind of truth. I also think Eddie sobered up partly because of Wolfgang too. Wolf helped light a fire under his dad’s ass and Eddie really needed that. From 2008 to 2015 Eddie was on fire! I love Michael Anthony too but Wolfgang saved the band in my opinion.

      @@jeremysenecal5340 Well said. I'll remember to mention that when/if buds tell me Mike should've still been with the band. I do remember hearing that when Wolfie joined the band and they were going to play live that they should play a bunch of their old Dave-era stuff that hadn't been played in literally decades!

      When you can look forward to it, its a great feeling. I grew up in a family where my dad played conjunto Mexican music and one by one my brothers eventually played with him until it was all family in the mid 80s. We were kinda born into it so when I got older and my sons also played it was special to get together and play everything from RHC to VH tunes!

    Eddie and Alex are so instinctively locked together rhythmically, it is almost otherworldly. Ed’s rhythm playing is every bit as phenomenal as his lead work.

      @@marksc1929 I think there are always two sides to every story, & in this circumstance, two very different perspectives. I read the other day that Valerie stated the later tours would NOT have happened "without" Wolfgang. Ed just wanted to play with his son...It's as simple as that. And can you blame him?! How often do you see a son, father & brother playing together, at this level? It's a rare occurance. Ed said Wolfgang was the breath of fresh air that constantly inspired him.
      Mike was always a pivital part of Van Halen's sound, but playing with Wolf meant more to Ed, at this time in his life. Things changed. I am also regularly baffled how so many view Mike as if he's a child. He's a grown man, who's had a grown man's voice this entire time, it was also his responsibility to use it. Mike is a millionaire 70 x's over...He didn't get treated too badly by Van Halen at the end of the day.
      To now hear he never mended fences with Ed before he died is absolutely tragic! (All these years...You know he's been sick...Your phone doesn't work? You forgot where he lived?) I had read Ed passed on to Sammy in a text, "Give Mike my love", but that was the last connection. All the years that went by without Ed & Sammy speaking...I guess Ed's 1st response to Sammy was, "What took you so long?!" They ALL failed each other. What an absolute waste of time & energy between people who shared so much & really did care for one another. This should be a tough lesson for everyone...figure it out & work it out... none of the animosity matters when it's the end of the line. Think about all they lost in between....All the laughs, all the music never made...It's terribly sad.

    It was a great show later that night! My wife and I sat on Eddie's side, first section up off the floor about the same height as the stage, so we had a terrific view of everything. Eddie smiled directly at us several times. I remember Dave got upset at a couple sitting in front of us because they wouldn't stand up when the house lights came on over our section. (But, honestly, I think the dude was handicapped and couldn't!) I felt bad for them as Dave kept shouting at them and motioning for them to stand up, he even called them something derogatory - I couldn't make out exactly what though. It was still an awesome show and the energy inside the Greensboro Coliseum that evening was very high indeed! Wolf played bass like a beast and nailed the harmony vocals. Eddie looked happy and played with real passion and precision at this one. Alex's drums sounded phenomenal, of course! So much talent in that band! That was the last time I ever saw them live (or will ever get to again!). Bless you, Edward, and thank you for unlocking so many possibilities with what one can do on an electric guitar!!! Will miss you much!

      @wob6776 Рік тому +1

      @@robertsalvini1 The label forced Gary out. It was the only departure from Van Halen without any bad blood. He honestly wasn't a great singer in the songs they wrote because someone decided to ask him to try and sound like Sammy, but he is not that bad of a singer in general and the shows were good. Plus he could do Roth material that nobody had heard since 85 and nobody would hear until 07. The album sucked save for a few songs, but it was Eddie's experiment and nobody told him no for anything on it. A strong producer could have made something great out of VH3, but what we got is what happens when Eddie assumes total control. It makes more sense as an Eddie solo album. His playing on it is killer.

      @Iknowthelaw13 2 роки тому

      I think a rough version of it was demoed in 2001, but it wasn’t nearly finished with the intro or the outro or the acoustic breakdown part. Just a stunning song. The newer songs on ADKOT are the best on the album imo: Stay Frosty, You and Your Blues, As Is, HBSD and Trouble with Never

    • @StepOnLegos1
      @StepOnLegos1 11 місяців тому

      As is, Big River, Trouble with Never, and HBSD were actually written and even recorded back in '96 next to Me Wise Magic and Can't Get This Stuff No More, those two and the 4 others I first mentioned were actually going to be on an album together with Roth. If you guys remember, they went on MTV together and basically announced Roth returning to the band, but it folded. That was going to be the album, plus a few others, that would accompany his return.
      It really upsets me seeing that album never came to fruition and was split between two tracks on the Best of album and the rest on ADKOT, these songs had a VERY dark and heavy sound, probably the darkest and heaviest VH ever got, Eddie was definitely cooking up probably the best reunion album of all time back in '95 and '96

    A month into this tour, singers generally won't have to do sound checks to save their voice for the show, they warm up in the band "room" backstage before the show. The band itself usually runs through songs that weren't on the set list previously because they may have been discussing adding it, which is what is happening in this case. both songs had not been on the set list yet into this tour (including this night).

      Dean Martin Thank you Dean. I've been saying this since seeing them in '12. The only question I ever had with him was....can he replace the high end harmonies that MA provided? After seeing this video the answer is a resounding yes!!! Anybody that knows anything about bass knows that he already surpasses MA in that department. But Sammy/MA fans will still cry that "it's not VH without Mikey" and "I miss MA's background vocals".

    • @deanmartin6682
      @deanmartin6682 9 років тому +1

      bossnfrank i would not say he is better then MA on bass...wolf is competent and gets the job done but MA is a better bass player...i have watched VH clips from the glory DLR years from concerts...and MA is a bad ass bass player...i play bass among numerous other instruments...i totally understand Ed wanting to play with his son...what fans dont understand is the massive egos a guy like ED...clapton has it too...i remember when Elton dumped his bass player and drummer who started with him when he was nothing up until he had his greatest successes then he dumps Dee Murray one of the greatest bass players ever and Nigel the drummer...even Lennon told Elton he was nuts to do so...but when you get to stars of this magnitude...behind the smiles they are cut throat...that show they made it and maintained it...Ed said his mom was really really tough..he called her "Hitler" ...so when Ed is a prick like he was the other day slagging off MA for no good reason...i say to myself...ahhhh Ed has a bit of Moms hitler DNA in him...

    • @bossnfrank
      @bossnfrank 9 років тому +1

      Dean Martin If MA was such an unbelievable bassist why has he done absolutely nothing that Sammy hasn't brought him in on over the last 20 years? 20 years and he has done absolutely nothing outside of Sammy side-projects. If he was a great bassist wouldn't other artists be reaching out to get him to play with them?

    • @deanmartin6682
      @deanmartin6682 9 років тому

      bossnfrank that is lame reasoning...DEE MURRAY..was one of the greatest bass players ever...Gus Dudgeon who was one of the most successful and acclaimed record producers said that about Dee...but after Elton dumped Dee he never had the same success and his career went nowhere...i will not argue...Mike is a great rock n roll bass player...i have seen it with my two eyes...but i like Wolf and if not for Wolf i would not have seen and enjoyed VH shows in 2008 and 2012....and those shows i saw were great and fun...i just feel for Ed to slag off Mike again last week made Ed look bad...

    • @bossnfrank
      @bossnfrank 9 років тому +1

      Dean Martin I agree that it looks bad for Eddie. He had gone 10 years without saying anything about Sammy or MA. I wish Eddie had just kept quiet and not entered the Sammy mudslinging-fest. Having said all that, we will agree to disagree on MA. Nice guy, good soldier, mediocre bassist. Listen to the power and dynamics of Wolfy's bass playing in these clips. I think Wolfy plays circles around him.

    -sits watching a Van Halen soundcheck 40 years into the band's career, over the intertubes, on an iPhone, and complains about it-
    I'll bet you're a barrel of laughs in real life dude, especially after a few beers.

    Van Halen isn't about filling the rock star persona. They're about putting out quality music, and a quality show. And that's something Wolf KICKS ASS at.

    Thanks for posting this, I got to see the soundcheck at the Edmonton show (May 2012) and they took a request to play Light Up the Sky. We were all shit scared to record anything lest we get booted out.

    Wolfgang Van Halen sounds awesome love his bass style really cool at the end of this where he is playing alone and he sounds like Eddie playing bass the way Eddie would play guitar...very Cool!

      tech was saying "That is good" in German or Dutch, by trying to speak in broken English. Cracked Eddie up. He said " Do it again. I couldn't imitate that!" Too funny

    What’s interesting is there were hordes of people saying that Wolfgang wasn’t really playing or singing when he joined the band...hopefully this should shut them up, but probably not. Lol
