with the "Dave screams" in it.
This is what I came up with.

I think this song was sorely underrated as one of their greatest hits ! Dave's voice was still perfection and Eddie's guitar was as usual, AWESOME! Love the added Dave screams here 💜💕💜
Sorely underrated song?
Bigtime yes.
However Dave's voice was on the outs at this point.
You can easily hear he's straining to hit some notes
Ed knew it too which is why he buried it in the mix..
@@RSTI191 He still sounded great for the type of song it was . So original and "Dave" in lyrics and he pulled it off even without his signature screams . Truly one of the best songs of the 90's !
@@sherriargenti7766
It kicked my ass the first time I heard it.
I love the song, but Dave in the Studio and Dave on stage are 2 different things. Dave could have never done this song live.
So true!!! I've always felt it was underrated and now hearing it again with headphones, I gotta say it is a really killer song. One of their better tracks that no one knows about.
First heard this song on a dark rainy winter day in 1997,, suddenly it was as if the Summer Sun was out and my spirits Soared with exhilaration hearing a New VH. song in
Exultation
🤘🏼
They should have gotten back together in 96. The only reason I bought the greatest hits was the 2 new songs with Dave. This is such an underrated DLR/VH song.
I bought this also just for the two this was the last chance they had to make the true VH music we wanted and sadly didn't happen.
Same, they still had creativity and Dave still had good vocals sad it didn't happen.
100% Agreed 👍
If only the reunion with Dave would have worked. It would have been EPIC! Those two new songs on the greatest hits album were fantastic and a return to the classic VH sound. Would have been a huge tour as well.
@@johnnyd3155 As far as Dave was concerned it was all done. Then he found out Eddie had hired Gary Cherone, and then Dave threw his toys out of the pram at the MTV music awards. which if I was him I would have done the same.
damn man. Those licks toward the end are insane. Have always been insane. Will remain so.
NOW it's Van Halen with the Dave screams!!!!! Love it!!!
Along with Can't Get This Stuff No More, I always wonder what stuff they'd have created if they'd not have fallen out (again) because these two songs are gold!
But, glad they got to make one more album way after, because I totally love it.
1984 that were at the absolute top of their game and they disbanded. The next album would have been pretty darn good I'm guessing.
@@TheAgentAssassin That's an interesting thing to ponder. The way 5150 turned out and Eat Them And Smile, what would have Dave wrote for the music for 5150. Some of it I imagine he'd not have wanted to write anyway for, but I can imagine him doing something special for the music of Get Up, Best Of Both Worlds or Summer Nights....
I wonder...
Totally agree. Those are 2 of my fave VH songs. Dave and Eddie were unbelievable together.
Simply awesome
Ha ha ha Now I know what you meant by the title. That was cool you used all the good Roth screams. Good job man.
Great song. One of their best. But what would this song be without Michael Anthony's magical vocals? Like most other VVH classics.
Would've been nice if there was a megaphone Dave would have that has these sample vocal screams that he could use on stage at a touch of the button.
They were great together
Reminds me of the movie “Twister”.👍👍🤙🎸
❤
Screams with more screams added = a sweet mix of screams!!!!!!
Me Wise Magic is an incredible song. The 96 reunion should have happened, it was stupid the way it fell apart. That’s where a strong manager could have helped. Get everybody to chill the fuck out. The MTV awards thing wouldn’t have turned bad if management was there to prevent that stupid stuff from going down. Too bad. They rediscovered the magic with those two songs.
If they had Irving Azoff on board at the time he would have had the reunion at the time. He was also responsible for Journey reuniting with Steve Perry in 1996.
Either Irving or Tony Smith or Steve O’Rourke (Pink Floyd manager) or Bill Curbishley (Who manager) would have handled the reunion perfectly. Ray Danniels was good for Rush but Van Halen he was Kryptonite.
All that super high harmony was done by Michael Anthony not Dave...
It’s like someone else has cut in on the dance. Hid this nice, little number away. Where did the original lineup go? It’s almost like someone is trying to cop Theo’s fake little brother. Ah, don’t trust me? What if it’s actually ME WISE MAGIC all along? Change that look… nice tune. What does it really mean? Been there? Done that? Know those guys? Who is that little old lady from Pasadena? Aqueous humor?
The most underrated song in their catalog.
Well, it wasn't released until 1996. It held the #1 position for 6 weeks in the Billboards mainstream rock tracks; the bands 13th #1 on that list so...there's that. I feel ya though
Definitely one of the best songs they released with DLR on vocals. GREAT TUNE
Always felt Michael Anthony's background vocals nailed it making this a Classic.
Michael wasn’t on this record.
@@kisaac6933 then who was it that sounded exactly like him?
@@jaytoepfert6776 The magic of a studio? WVH? I don’t know, look it up though. It’s the only VH studio album without Michael.
@@kisaac6933 where did you hear it was not him, it wasn't an album only two songs. Anthony was with them during that MTV appearance with Dave.
Wikipedia does say it is the last 2 songs with the original Van Halen. His voice is so important to their sound, I thought so.
Criminally underrated song
They didnt play together for like 15 years and made this masterpiece, wrap your head around that.
1984 to 1996 that's 12 years 😊
@@BobSmith-eb7yt hey look everyone! Bob knows everything.
Dave's iconic voice and screams just legendary!!
Nothing at all like this.....people give Dave crap for the "Vaudeville"...shtick.....this and all the DLR stuff is way more rock n roll than the pop driven Hagar era....
Dave was the Man! In my opinion greatest frontman ever!! He was extremely original with his approach and it worked excellent!! Chemistry is a weird thing but VH had it firing on all cylinders!! Full throttle!!
One of Dave's finest moments.
Eddie and Dave created magic together!
Like peanut butter and chocolate.
Absolutely 💥
A chemistry Hagar could never match
It's much Better with the classic screams!!
No band can beat the attitude and swagger of the Mighty Van Halen. Miss Eddie Van Halen. Can't beat Dave's signature screams.
Dave was such an original in every way!! One of the greatest frontman in history in my opinion!
@@robm709 I agree. Back when they and we were kings.

Me Wise Magic should have been the beginning of something truly amazing!! A new Album, a World Tour with all 4 original members and America’s greatest Rock Band of all time back on top of the World!!!!
Wow what a great song. Miss the mighty V.H. RIP Eddie your so missed.V.H. forever in my book.
Sammy Hagar fans say Dave can't sing. This song proves them wrong wrong wrong.
They say he can't sing only because they think vocal range is going as high as possible, keep in mind the group saying this grew up on 70s and 80s metal where singers from the 70s late Steve Perry and Freddie Mercury had set the bar pretty high and the thinking was if the singer isn't a tenor they aren't a great vocalist. In reality Dave's range is probably at least what Sammy Hagar's is. He can go about an octave lower than Hagar comfortably and in full voice in those deeper notes. The high notes he's blazed his own path with, I'd say Hagar can do about an octave above Roth, but there's quite a bit of crossover in the middle. All in all both can probably match about the same number of notes on a full piano, just different vocal ranges. Always more concerned about showmanship on stage than hitting the right pitches, but the man had a great voice.... A real crooner which when combined with Eds playing made the band into something unique.
I think Dave's voice totally rocks on the recording....
But, he just can't pull it off live ...
That's what I believe the Sammy guys are saying...
His live voice is pretty bad ...
I doubt he could pull this song off live...
@@mruncletheredge 1000%
This is EDITED
A song 26 years old doesn't prove that he can sing *currently*
This is brilliant. I didn't know I needed to hear this...
You don't really hear it until you've heard it 50 times.
Friken awesome!! The mighty VAN HALEN!! Music world is not the same without Eddie.. RIP EVH
So true
Clowns overdubbed Dave screams from other tracks, pretty stupid considering it didn’t need it
Dave may not be able to do that whistling scream anymore but it really doesn’t matter, because the spirit is what matters most in VH. The heart and attitude. The physical moves and notes and techniques are nearly secondary. The songs still drip with tone and swagger.
I think DLR is the King of Swagger.
Where was that swagger with sam ???? Exactly 😉
@@metalmike570 DLR actually lived the life of a rock n roller. He never got married or settled down or cashed in with some business venture or whatever. He stayed skinny. So when he sings, you believe it. You buy it. There’s no pretending. That’s the difference. Sam is a great businessman but his songs never spoke to me one bit. It always felt like he was posturing.
@@Iknowthelaw13 Sammy Hagar does have a lot of fans though, and his songs with Van Halen were good. David Lee Roth had his decade wwith VH - great stuff. Sammy had his decade with Van Halen; also great stuff but those of us that were teenagers around 1980 will love old VH with Dave a bit more!! Just the way it is.
@@anz2441Songs like Black and Blue, and Poundcake definitely have swagger!!
The last of Daves voice. Mikes backround amazing in this track
Michael Anthony is why VH sounds so frign good.. with DLR and SAMMY. He is rock solid AWESOME

I had this song blazing as I was parked at Cape Jourimain New Brunswick while Hurricane Fionas sideways razor like rain and face crushing winds smashed up against my car. Lost my cottage on the north shore - basically flattened it, got out just in time to stop for the night at the foot of the bridge, but baby, I'll always have Van Halen pouring molten rock and roll from the cones.
I’m one of those Dave only fools. The screams were his super power. But this song is one of my favorites, sounds as great as it did first time I heard it’s awesomeness in his quick return and the added screams are not needed, almost like it’s a goof. All aspects of VH on this track were stellar and nothing needs to be added. Thanks anyway tho!
Completely agree......no such thing as VH and that other guy.....
@@shawnray2941 Oh grow up.
@@ZiddersRooFurry what does maturity or stature have to do with this discussion?
Tastefully done! Nice job.
David Lee Roth sounded great early years but the screaming may be why his voice isnt good now and age plays a role too. Edward is awesome as usual and always was along with the rest of the band. Missed but we have great videos and music forever.
I mean it COULD be the screams, but the man was also a long-time proponent of smokes and coke, both of which wreck your voice. I think if he'd quit smoking in his late 20s and laid off the nose candy, he'd have at least sounded a lot better in the 90s and 00s.
This is brilliant because Dave’s voice is shot now. Every song on this album should have Dave’s screaming!!! 😊
This song is the epitome of what VH represented strong guitar, bass, drums and vocals I’d say it’s perfect Van Halen
I love the song but love it more with the added Dave vocals. It really does add a new dimension to the song. It kicked ass. They needed you producing them back when Best Of came out. Great job mixing this!
Who’dda thunk two of the best VH songs ever would come off their greatest hits album from both great singers when neither one was “officially”lead singer. This and Humans Being are two shining stars in the VH catalog.
Lol! Good point.
I had ‘best of’ on the other day and had the same thought. But would include ‘Can’t get this stuff no more’ to.
This was the song that reminded us what made us fall in love with Van Halen in the first place. No kid ever sold his baseball card collection/mowed lawns to buy a guitar because he heard "Right Now" Dave and Ed were two great tastes that tasted best together.
LOL or When it's Love and Why can't this be love. Listen to Me Wise Magic then those 2 with Sammy.....night and day!
wicked awesome
Yes very underrated. First time I heard it I was hooked.
You took an already great tune and turned it up a notch. Great job! The DLR screams add a whole new dimension to it.
Love it!
That’s fuckin awesome!!!!
Soon as they dropped Sammy and went back to Dave they came out with this absolute gold. Dave is the man.
I am not sure if this was dubbed in or cut out of the original recording but in this version nearing the end of Me Wise Magic, Eddie sounds like Ronnie Montrose on Space Station Number 5
I still can’t believe EVH is gone so weird So sad 🎸
Always be one of the greatest bands of all time. Such legends
Dave sang his heart out on this song and "Can't Get This Stuff No More" and deserved his place back in the band. It was Eddie's fragile little ego that wouldn't allow it.
That is a great tune.
So mikey got to jam with Dave one last time doing this.wouldve been great to see.
I give the win to Dave on vinyl
I give the win to Sammy live
Two totally different but great bands
Awesome song, by the best Band in World history! I loved it the first time I ever heard it. It had a more modern, 90s vibe and foundation. But still Van Halen, and the chorus made it Van Halen I think. Well.. that, Al's drums, and it still had that Eddie thing that can never be replicated. I thought this was the first time I actually heard Sammy era Van Halen music... with Dave out front. Um. It worked. LOL It worked out really well.... as we all knew it would. Best band ever... by 2 and a half miles.... with EITHER guy out front.
They just couldn’t do anything very complex with Hagar
@TownSircle I agree with dreams, I love that song too and didn’t consider it
@TownSircle 5150 has quite a few complex songs. 🤷♂️VH has complex songs compared to most artists, I do believe the parts sam sang over were generally more melodic as opposed to kinetic with Dave. Sammy just has a different style.
Better than anything Sammy ever did with VH.
(Dave here) I had read a comment from Alex VH about doing this song and said "Dave brought 10 songs to the table. 9 of 'em were shit. But that 10th one was it! ".
My guess is it's like that for most bands.
@@sueperglue8847 But, Alex can be a dick. Dave is a hell of a lyricist.
Dave could still do it here. The real Van Halen
If I was a producer when they were cutting ADKOT, I would have a made this the lead song and video for that album. I like it better than both Tattoo and She's the Woman. No offense to any of the other bandmembers, but VH for me with always be Ed, Alex, Michael and Dave.
She’s the woman is one of my faves on that album. Tattoo is a throw away IMO
Tattoo was / is horrible....and Van Halen Is my favorite band of all time.
This has always been low key one of my favorite Van Halen songs. Greatest hits vol. 1 was one of a few compilations I bought as a kid in ‘03 while I was at the very beginning of my passion for rock and metal. The others were Ozzy’s “The Ozzman Cometh” and Maiden’s “Edward the Great”. There wasn’t UA-cam or Spotify to poke around on, just summers filled with washing my parents car and then begging them to drive me to Borders to spend the money I made on CD’s. Man. Me Wise Magic was on vol. 1 and damn if I didn’t worship every track on that thing.
.....Me Wise Magic & Can't Get This Stuff No More....What a comeback in 1996!! What promise a new reconstituted Van Halen with all the original members back again would have been.....But they didn't let it happen.
I know man. These songs are so awesome! It's always bitter sweet to me when I listen to Me Wise Magic & Can't Get This Stuff No More. I've always fantasized how wonderful it would have been if they had released a full album sounding this great!
I remember everyone being so stoked at the time about what could have been. But we got two final, epic tracks.
When this came out Sammy was pissed off, why ? ......because he knew Dave ruled as the original front man and Sammy knew he couldn't compete and he was absolutely correct.
Man I love this song
Me wise magic is good 👍
I dig this song. One of my favorite vocal performances from Dave.
Mikeys backup vocals was the glue to this band🎤❤️
When that song came out, I IMMEDIATELY noticed Dave changed his pitch to sound like Hagar when he hit the high notes.
The only and true voice of VH is DLR. Beginning, during and end!
Wow 😳 awesome Now Definitely one of my favorites!!
This song is SO Bad Ass! Just as good or if not better than anything they've ever released.
❤this. Since 1st time hearing it. And this is a fine example of how Roth had the “IT” factor. Something no other singer could have at the time. Sammy was good absolutely but dam Dave had that charisma that pull ya into the song and get ya into it And that coupled with the awesomeness of Eddie Van Halen. Was freakin magic Wise magic. And yes they shoulda reunited at this time. If the album woulda been like this song. It woulda be a phenomenal album. Right up their with VH 1. Absolutely woulda been epic !!!!
How did they get Dave to sound like Sammy Hagar?
Yup, still kicks ass after all these years!
See it was all in the lyrics because only Dave could come up with lyrics like this...me wise magic...only dlr could pull that off.
This song and “Can’t Get This Stuff No More” were better than anything released on A Different Kind Of Truth”
I went back and revisited ADKoT and it grew on me. Ed has some really great guitar work on that lp not to mention he nailed the tone of his Lamborghini with those 5150iii stealths. Mike’s vocals are certainly missed.
You are absolutely correct.... and I can tell everybody in someone like Eddie's creative top drawer that makes this all 80s material as is Amsterdam..... and its ok to just fuckin admit that Eddie started going dry in the very early 90s ..... and that is ok.!!! This world is full of bullshit .... it happens to everyone..... all genius level creators...... these things are meant to be fleeting windows of time... times when your brain chemistry and thoughts and emotions and perceptions line up like the stars..... and no!!!!!!!!!! Eddie didn't destroy himself..... blah blah what could have been..... he was fuckin great
I love both songs but disagree. ADKOT is an awesome album. Easily the most solid album they did since 1984.
ADKOT is a masterpiece. I don’t know what you’re talking about. The guitar work throughout is amazing. Every song but Tattoo is a classic. My favorites are You and Your blues, China Town, Blood and Fire, As Is, Hunnybabysweetiedoll, and they continue throughout the rest of the album. It’s classic Van Halen and sounds very similar to Me Wise Magic.
@@TheSteveSteele it’s just old reworked VH that was shelved & for good reason. Dave doesn’t want to talk about this album and why it wasn’t on streaming services for so long. This was put together on the fly so that they had an album to tour on. But if you think it’s that great it’s your opinion and you’re entitled to it.
Been on it since day one m w m un fuckin real never here it on radio though d bags dont know real music
So much for the saying that you can’t catch lightning in a bottle. They did it twice. RIP Eddie👍
So Dave returns and they do a final song, we'll two finals, and it becomes the best song they've ever done. IMO. Amazed. Eddie's most sophisticated composition. Dave's best writing.
Best song? No sir, not by a longshot. Pull your head out of your ass
Kinda makes sense huh?
The guitar work on this track is genuinely stupid good. I consider myself pretty good at playing and it took two months to figure this out… can’t even begin to imagine writing.
Sorry about that, but this 96' song is far better than most of the work with Hagar.
Take these songs, 1. Can’t Get This Stuff No More, 2. Me Wise Magic, 3. You and You’re Blues, 4. Blood and Fire, 5. Big River and 6. Beats Workin’ and tell me those songs don’t belong together on the same album. Try it, you’ll see.
Over the years he lost his ability to overdrive his voice and scream, but he still had that mojo... but I wasn't too pleased with Ed's sound on this or the previous 2 albums with Sam. The Peavy/ music man era wasn't his best sound.
Grreat video, well done.
The only problem I had with this song was guitar tone wise it had such a 5150 album sound.
nice touch...but the original was pretty fucking awesome. it had DLR screams in it.
With or without the 1979 screams, this and "Can't this stuff no more" were absolute gems. If they had put together a comeback album at that point, late 90s, it would have been an absolute monster comeback. We later got "A different kind of truth", which I loved, but it was too little too late.
You are correct, these 2 songs would have brought them back the way it should have been
I agree this song had everything awesome vocals from Dave great low and high-end guitar Perfect Beat drums this song was awesome
I remembers My First contact with Van Halen was with that Black greatest hits were this song is the last one and, wow, i remember Skip ALL Sammy' s songs and Begin here listening to the cd, using the "repeat all" function
Nice job! 🤘
I love that intro build.
It's amazing Dave can still talk. Those many years of primal screams must have been hard on the vocal cords.
This reminds me of vintage Van Halen, love it.
5:00 on might just be the best thing ever. Long live the memory of EVH!
Nicely done! Thanks for this. 🎸
Sort of a return to the glory days of the late 70s and early 80s. An entire album with this vibe after 1984 would have been awesome.
This is one of two tracks off of the "Lost Album" they were originally set to do, but ultimately they decided not to do it as history tells. The other tracks besides this and CGTSNM made it onto the "Different Kind of Truth" record.
Sounds like Eddie played his Steinberger guitar on this one.
He did the transtrem…tremolo….you can hear it when he pulls it down to the other locking … how the pitch downshifts
And a Sustainiac!
The added screams fucked it up. This ain't no Tarzan movie...
Why can't people leave shit alone.. EVH didn't like people messing with the stuff he released
