I think Ron is the stabilizing agent in the trio. Not to say that he isn't a moody teen, but Harry usually has the specific knowledge they need, and Hermione usually has the technical knowledge that they need. Ron knows a lot about a lot of random stuff, and he does a great job of filling the gaps in.
In the books Ron is the only one with "street knowledge" - being the only one of the trio growing up in the magical world. Also he is very loyal. He stands up for his friends and would jump infront of Harry or Hermione to save them.
I went through the first book and I was schocked at that scenen when Ron fights with Draco! Each of them are a bit more snappy in the books, they keep getting angry at each other, it goes from "we love each other so much, we want all the best in the world for each other and we're going to do the nicest things for each other" to "Oh you annoy me so much you freaking rat" back and forth 😂 it's so entertaining and funny, though it's not the most mature dynamic. I still love this trio, though, don't get me wrong
Hermione was the screenwriter's favourite character so he glowed her up and gave her all of Ron's best bits relegating him to comic relief. The dynamic should have been Harry the hero in training, Hermione the gifted but prone to freeze under pressure prodigy and Ron the streetwise kid who grew up in the magic world and knows how to navigate it.
Seriously! That troll in the bathroom scene, Hermione was frozen stiff with terror. Ron instinctively acted and used the levitation spell and saved them all. But, nooooo, in the movie, Hermione just HAD to be the one to clue Ron in! 🙄 They did my boy Ron dirty in the movies...
Exactly. It always floored me that Ron who grew up around magic was pushed aside for Hermione who is essentially just extremely booksmart. Ron got played in the film but Rupert was/is fantastic.
My biggest annoyance is how when they're stuck in the Devils Snare or whatever its called. "Have you gone mad?! Are you a witch or not?!" Ron yelling at Hermione
It's a ride. And the books came first. Even though I was in my 30s when the 7th book came out, I was in line at a B&N, in a cape and holding a wand, anxious to finish this journey. P.S. 12 hours later, I finished an epilouge that throughly ticked me off. Hmph. (Great story though)
Ron adds a lot to the story in the books. Since both Harry and Hermione were raised by non-magic people, Ron is the one introduces wizarding world to them. Also he has a lot of practical knowledge and is Harry's best mate. The movies did him dirty, turning him into a gluten and comic relief. In each movie, they gave the best of his lines to Hermione to make her look more badass.
Actually if you consider IQ the best measure for intelligence, Ron is the most intelligent of the trio. He is a little lazy but still manages to get great grades. He learns naturally, while Hermione learns mechanically. He's also the clutch player of the team, he is way better in tough situations than Harry and especially Hermione, who always gets flustered.
RIP Alan Rickman (Snape), Robbie Coltrane (Hagrid), John Hurt (Mr. Ollivander), and Richard Harris (Dumbledore) such amazing people who are gone but in our hearts forever.
This is how it feels like to grow old: when you see the actors of your childhood die. I'm not sorry for them, they did a good job that will stay remembered. I'm sorry for my old ass. Anyway. Seriously. At least they all got to the end of the series. The real injustice is that Harris died midway. He is still my favourite Dumbledore.
The Potter Family have a long history of inventing spells, charms, magical objects and medical potions that people use on a regular basis. Harry being the only surviving member of his family inherited everything. He is the owner of all of those patents. That’s why he’s super rich. The money magically appears in his vault.
What are you talking about? Diagon Alley is literally a shopping center where anyone in the wizarding world can sell their inventions. Harry is not the type to be lazy just because he's rich. Neither is Snape.
I'm so proud of our Potterheads. Whenever youtubers react to the series and have a bunch of questions, we answer them with sheer sophistication mixed with sarcasm without giving away the spoilers. Best part, nobody tells the other to not spoil it's kind of a given cause we all wanna see your reaction to this masterpiece 😅
I have given spoilers but it's only because his reaction to the last film is already out so I'm totally comfortable saying stuff because he has seen it. But I agree! No one from when this came out came any spoilers! Love you Potterheads!!
Ron's contribution to the trio is being street smart. Ron is a pureblood, which means his whole family is magical and he lives in wizarding society. He knows about culture, people, magic and even a little about politics. Hermione is book smart. She knows a lot because she reads a lot, but some things aren't taught through books. She also has a difficulty of accepting ideas that aren't 100% logical. Harry is simply powerful. He doesn't study that much, but when it's time to act, he's the best.
The movies did Ron dirty AF, they gave most of his good lines to Hermione throughout and made him look like just a bumbling idiot. Ron is actually pretty smart, hes just goofy. But hes a true and loyal friend and would die for Harry or Hermione. Most people that read the books before the movies Ron was almost universally the favorite character, and they were livid how the movies did him. Personally I think that about Ginny, who you will meet later. (and dont come at me about spoilers, thats not one.)
hold up, it's so weird how the movie has some scenes that you don't find in the UK version. like how petunia makes fun of harry for going to smeltings, or how she cracks the eggs open to find the letters, or how harry snaps back at snape
See... this is my problem with HP films. HP is not supposed to be so dark and horror, it is HP not Supernatural, it would have more sense to go this way by the 5 movie, not by the third one. The first two for me are the best just because the vibe and aesthetics overall.
In the books, Ron is a highly loyal friend, although he has insecurities about being The Chosen One's friend later on when his masculinity becomes more of a thing he wants to assert. Ron is recklessly brave, he protects them in various events and stands up bravely for them in most encounters. He's self-sacrificing most times too and very caring. He learns from Hermione more often than she realizes (though he doesn't make it a point to let on that he does), and when she slowly starts to see how much he pays attention to her and her efforts and vision (like with SPEW - an elfish activist initiative), she falls for his more pristine qualities. Although, he is also a jerk, dim to the point of being a muggle, and she's sort of compromising, but you can't miss that he has a really good highly loyal heart faults and all.
My excitement for this video is immeasurable! Alex has become one of my favorite reactors on this platform, and him reacting to one of my favorite franchises is going to be dope!
Catching the Golden Snitch doesn't necessarily means your team wins. Catching it awards your team 150 points, which in most cases, means victory because it's rare for a team to even be that far ahead in points.
I mean practically does. I think the only case in the books where one team catches the snitch but lose was the bulgaria ireland world cup match. Where ireland won but bulgaria(Krum) got the snitch. OTherwise its been an auto victory
@@epicfan1598 I feel like Harry caught the snitch in one of the books when Gryffindor was getting smashed--to end the game early. Did I make that up? I honestly can't remember. Edit: I looked it up: it was Ginny, not Harry.
The issue with Ron’s role in the Harry Potter Movies is, that they they stole a lot of HIS smart remarks and made it hers. In the books, Hermine still is smart as heck, but as she’s a Muggle born, she cannot know as much stuff about the wizard’s world, as Ron. I find it sad, they made him a laughing stock, so they can make Hermione some kind of unrealistic Super Girl. There was no reason to do that. She already had a great role to play in the books.
Yeah like how would she know what a Mud-blood is... So many other things that Ron had in the books that was amazing. Like standing up in front of Harry on a broken leg!!! The line" if you want to kill Harry, you'll have to kill us too" was Ron's. * Protecting from serious black. Sadly took that away from him in so many other amazing! Could have been scenes. I really don't like Hermione in the movies, like she's supposed to have bad parts too.
@@calebS.Buddy_Rich_Best_SoloistI haven't read the books yet but as I've recently watched the movies for the first time I feel like out of all the movies , Ron seems the dumbest in the prisoner of Azkaban . 😢
@@Owillowwally Yup the part where Snape calls Hermoine an insufferable know-it-all Ron stands up for her in the book in the movie he stupidly says "He's got a point you know"
I'm 33 years old, and I still remember the day I saw this movie in theaters for the first time! The Harry Potter series is so iconic, yes please keep watching these movies!!
I was too old to go to the Harry Potter Openings at midnight with the 14 year olds ... boy was that embarrassing being there at midnight for every one of the movies.
I remember the days I watched all the movies. I remember standing in the lines to buy the tickets. I remember standing in lines to get into the theaters. I remember waiting for the movies to start sitting in the theater. I remember the crowd vibrating with anticipation and screaming and crying and reading passeges from the books. I remember everything
They never actually explain it in the movies, which is so annoying, but in the books the reason Harry has to live with the Dursleys is because his aunt is blood related to his mother, which strengthens the protective charm that Harry’s mom made when she died, so he’s in the safest possible place living in their abusive household lol
@@uhuhuh1966yeah but they make it quite clear about Nevil in the later movies where Nevil goes from goofy inept kid to badass who is just as crucial in saving Hogwarts during the battle for Hogwarts as anyone.
@brony_in_the_sticks that’s probably *why* he put out the lights 😂 if everyone is going to hear them might as well make it more difficult for everyone to see
The first 3 books dropped in the 90s, the 4th in 2000, and the 1st movie released in 2001. The books were gaining a big following before the movie, but afterwards it drew in a huge new audience. Book stores started doing midnight releases for each book after that, where people would stand in line for hours to get their book. There were a few years between each book, so people were theorizing like crazy on forums online during that time. It was seriously one of the most fun times of my life and I hate that there is nothing else like it.
I remember being at the book releases and the opening nights to each movie. The whole experience and everything to do with it really did feel magical and immersive. I’ll never forget almost getting in trouble when I was 8 for using my GameBoy Color wormlight at 1am but my mom laughed when she realized I wasn’t playing a game, I was using it to read Harry Potter.
to this day, i still haven't read the first book. but after seeing the first film, i went straight to the 2nd book from a library and continued on from there. Goblet of Fire is still my favorite book. when the time came for Order of the Phoenix to release, my dad got a couple vouchers to get 1st edition copies for me and my (at the time) girlfriend. so he took us out of town to get our copies, and turned the trip into a date for us. but i think we had to redeem the vouchers a day or 2 in advance so they can reserve our copies, meaning we had to make a 2nd trip to get our books
@@montywh not a bad place to jump in actually. The first two movies (especially the extended cuts) are the most book accurate, so you didn’t miss a whole lot. I still recommend reading the first book though. You really get the feel of how much was actually planned out and how much wasn’t.
To your point about getting lost in this world: that is absolutely what happened to me as a kid. My childhood was …not ideal. I couldn’t be myself a lot of the time and the Wizarding World was my only escape sometimes. I know this is true for a lot of us who were kids when the books came out.
You were talking about each kids role. Well they took quite a few of Ron’s lines from the books and gave them to Hermione. So Ron is somewhat different in the books. He knows a lot more than the way they portrayed him in the movie. You have to remember he grew up in a wizard in the family and the other two didn’t. So the movies kind of forgot that
This. In the books they make it even more obvious with the things guarding the stone: Snape had left a riddle with some potions that would let you through, let you go back, or just kill you, which Hermione could solve. Harry's skills as a seeker help him grab the key, and Ron wins the chess game to sacrifice himself. In the Devil's Snare trap, the 3 work together. Harry acts more calm under pressure, helping to calm down the others. Hermione remembers how to stop the plant with light, but says she wishes she had something to start a light. Ron, the only one who's used to magic from everyday life, reminds them that they are wizards. I do love the films, but they do make Ron somewhat less useful.
I've always thought of Ron as the magic-street-smart one of the three :) That subconscious knowledge about your country and culture that you know but don't know that you know until someone from elsewhere asks you about it and you somehow have a full answer for them to pull out of a metaphorical hat. That made sense in my head...
Exactly. Ron was dumbed down in the movies. He's the only one of the three who really knows about the wizarding world. He's fully immersed in the culture. Hermione is picks up the spells very quickly. Harry is the athlete, and has the "destiny" mark as the boy who defeated Voldemort. They all have important skills, but Ron's don't come across well in the movies. Likewise, they all have their flaws as well. Harry can get a bit hot-headed and reckless. Ron is often unsure of himself (he's the youngest of six brothers, and has a lot to live up to). And Hermione tends to panic and worry and obsess.
yes! an example of his own intelligence and awareness that even i sometimes forget about is that he caught on that the mirror of erised was bad news after just one visit whereas harry got swept up. it showed him his literal dream come true and he was still savvy enough to realize that it was dangerous
I feel like one of the strong reasons that Harry didn’t befriend malfoy or try in the beginning was because he lived with the worst people ever. He knew how to recognize bad souls so his moral compass was pristine in that sense
I remember the Bertie Bott's Every Flavor Beans. There wasn't originally a dead fish flavor. The worst flavor at the time was vomit. What was so strange was that, based on the image on the back of the box, when you thought you had toasted marshmallow, you actually had vomit. It's as if there was some massive manufacturing mix-up.
Just to clarify, Alex, the Phoenix gave two feathers for the two wands, Harry’s and Voldemort’s. That’s what the shop keeper meant when he said, “it’s brother gave you that scar.” The wands are brothers because both their cores came from the same source.
One of the saddest parts of the movies is like all the side characters basically got all their lines cut. Your basically funneled into the main 3. You rarely hear shamus or dean talk even tho in the books they actually have a decent amount of lines. It hurts that feeling of Harry going to a school and making a ton of friends. It’s more like he only knows 2 ppl.
These movies can’t all be 3 hours just to cover every inch of the books lol they would draw on for far too long, and it’s better to establish a connection with the main characters rather then focus on two random side characters you wouldn’t care about as a casual watcher who didn’t read the books beforehand
@@wifflewaffle5006 it takes 3 seconds to say a line so no I wouldn’t stretch much and the books are vastly superior as the world feels more alive like the couples in the movies feel forced imo still really good but could of been better u heard they are making a tv show
@@joshuawilliams4314 🤦🏼♀️ It WOULD stretch the movies out far too long if they focused on every single thing in the books. I cannot believe that I have to even say this but books will always be superior because they are the books, more content. Books do not always perfectly adapt to screen however so they have to make changes to make it work on film. You CAN love both.
@@JustKelso1993 I’m not saying they should’ve done every line but there a few things that were cut that shouldn’t of been as it’s add a lot more then the time it takes hopefully the tv show will be done well
FYI about the Sorting Hat: - the whole conversation between Harry and SH only happened in his head. So was with all other kids. - the SH assigns kids to the house according to what they value, not by how they act. - Gryffindor values courage, Ravenclaw values knowledge, Hufflepuff values loyalty, Slytherin values ambition. - some kids took longer than the others, because they weren't clear of the things they value yet, or which one they value more. - Harry has the ambition. He's an orphan who just found out about his fame, wealth, a whole new world etc. But when meeting Malfoy + probed by the SH, he became resolute that he'd rather have courage over reputation.
it makkes sense that its by what they value and nt how they act, cause that means it portrays your true intentions, not what you show people, idk if i make sense
Well, recently (like a few weeks ago), Hogwarts Mystery (which is considered canon by JKR) says it is about where the kids WANT to be most. Though the kids are not aware of that. I don't really like this idea much. My eleven-year-old self would have wanted Ravenclaw. But I already knew at thirteen that Hufflepuff would be more my love and family. And now, at 23, I adore Hufflepuff and can't consider any other house (even though Ravenclaw's common room is gorgeous)!
And technically speaking, SH never said Harry should be in Slytherin. He only even started saying Harry might be good in there after Harry said he did not want to be Slytherin. And his wording was not as specific. I still enjoy the idea of Slytherin-Harry, but it would not be where I would truly consider him to belong. Harry, as well as most students, have traits of all four houses. Harry would be good anywhere. But I think he would be best in Gryffindor, followed by Hufflepuff, then Slytherin, then Ravenclaw.
Why not do reactions with her? Having someone who is brand new to the series and someone who is a beloved fan of the series would be a good combo for a reaction series. She may also know some info that the movie either misses out or isn't super obvious straight away and she can help out with that stuff. Would be great!
At 38:25 when ron falls off the knight piece in wizards chess and gets knocked out you can see a piece fly into screen and hit him in the face. During the behind the scenes he mentions that it was an actual piece of debris and you can actually see it leave a cut above his eyebrow in the scene when he gets hit in the face but he didn't even let it phase him and continued to act unconscious.
Gonna go ahead and say it before I even watch. Stoked to see you react to these and HOPE you watch all of them. As an adult, the first 2 may be a bit of a slog to get through but from 3 - the end is really something incredible.
Definitely. Whenever I see a reactor watching the movies I usually skip the first two because the 3rd is when they really start having an impact on people and they feel way more magical.
I think 2 is underrated. Its biggest problem is that the climax feels like a repeat of the first movie, but the movie looks so much better than 1, the kid actors are better, and Gilderoy Lockhart is a lot of fun.
“When kind, genuine, authentic people don’t play by the rules, that’s how you change the world“ is honestly one of the best and most true quotes I’ve ever heard in a UA-cam video 🤌🏻🤌🏻 Also, have fun getting thousands and thousands of views on these reaction videos; you’ll find that for so many of us potterheads, it is a literal hobby to watch people react to them for the first time.
I swear! I thought I was the only one finding these jokes distasteful. Regardless of whether these jokes are about the actors or the characters, both are children in the movies and it's just so jarring when he makes those inappropriate jokes!
It's fun that you said "Hat's off to the cooks preparing the food for all these students" The movies decided to skip over the "lower class species slaves who are happy to serve" storyline that the books have.
I’m already emotional imagining Alex watching that last frame of the 8th movie. How he’ll want to start over right away just so he can go back to Hogwarts. You have to watch them all!
You mentioned how cool the movie was despite the fact you're 29. I first watched the movies when I was 59, after reading the books for the first time. I'm 66 now, and I still enjoy reading the books.
The epicness of this story is that every book/movie becomes more complex, sinister and darker until the climatic ending of the series. Storytelling at its finest.
After the first book, there were lines of kids and their parents around bookstores when each new volume was released. The books front-loaded an audience for the movies. Fortunately, the movies recreated the imaginary world of Harry Potter well enough to make the entire series.
It's a funny thing you mention the toad thing because in the actual book, hagrid, when asking Harry to pick a pet, he said "toads Went out of fashion years ago you'd be laughed at"
I'm sure someone else already said this, but the books came first. They were INSANELY popular! Bookstores would have midnight specials when they were finally allowed to sell them. Parents would bring their children to wait outside bookstores while wearing Hogwarts costumes. People would take off school or work until they had finished the book! Rowlings was still writing the subsequent books when the first movies came out. There was DEFINITELY Harry Potter Mania. I had babies at that time and couldn't be bothered with such things. Thank goodness I tried it later. Marvelous series.
The majority of the time when a film comes out the books usually are first such as Mary poppins, twilight most films that have books were written way before they were made films.
Back in the late 90’s my mom bought my son the first 4 books. I was like, what are you giving my 8 year old son, so I read them first and became an addict myself, yes, I was a grown ass adult, and promptly handed them down to him to read. I also started reading them with my 5 year old. When this movie came out, we were all amazed how much it matched our imagination. I can’t wait to go on this ride with you. We were all so sad when the ride ended. Between the books and movies, this series was a major part of my boys’ childhood. We even dragged my daughter, who was much younger into it, although like you, she never read the books…lol
same here :))) And I can not wait until my baby-granddaughter will be old enough - I will definitively read her the books first, than we will whatch together the movies :)))
I watched the first movie as a child and immediately fell in love! I then found out that it was based on a book. I begged my parents to please buy me the book. That christmas they surprised me with a paperback box set because, unbeknownst to me, there were actually 4 books out at the time. I thought there was only one at the time lolol I loved to read, so I devoured those books and read them so many times that they literally started falling apart, and I mean that in a literal sense. The spines are split and peeling, there are pages missing and bent in a million directions, the covers for some of them have come off and one of my cousins, who was always a complete ass to me, grabbed my Goblet of Fire book while I was reading it, and threw it on the floor. And because my books were literally falling apart because I read them so much, the book split into two pieces. I was so sad, but continued reading it because it was a gift from my parents. Whenever the next book in the series came out, my parents would buy it for me 💕 and they would specifically buy me the hardcover with the sleeve. I think they thought they would survive more wear and tear, but they are all messed up too from me reading them over and over. I still have all of those books and even the box the first 4 books came in! And the first 4 books are still in that box 💕 The book series have meant so much to me. I'm 30 now and I'm eternally grateful that my parents bought me that box set and the rest of the books 🥹
I heard about HP as they were getting ready to release the first movie; I bought the first book just to see if it was any good, then bought the rest; and waited years for The Order of the Phoenix and the rest and for the movies after each book came out. I should add I'm an old man now, was in my 50's when I got the first one. I think the story is brilliant and appeals to all ages. And JK sure as hell put a twist or two into them! If it matters to you there were so many copies sold you can find them for a pittance in used book stores. But of course you want to keep the ones your folks got for you!
21:55 About twenty years after the release of the first movie, this is the most iconic line of Hermione in the entire series. 26:05 I had not noticed her smile before, it was a quick scene, but it makes sense.
Seems like you're watching a version with some extra / extended scenes that they may have added later! :D So exciting! Almost feels like I'm watching it again for the first time as well. I'm glad that they added them in-- it gives you even more depth into such an amazing world with wonderful characters.
i remember watching the first movie with some of these undeleted scenes and got so confuse when i watch again and they were gone so i thought i was hallucinating the first time lol
The first two films have extended cuts available to own. They’re great, and make them both more book accurate as well. I wish they’d release the extended cuts for 3-8. They exist, just not available to own without pirating.
@@Empty12345 a cinema in my city has them all and sometimes does a Harry Potter marathon, 26 hours from 1st to 8th movie. Also does this with the Lord of the Rings extended Trilogy, 13 hour marathon. Its super epic, being in cinema and getting food supplied by the cinema the whole time.
Little known fact, the goblin, Griphook, who helps Harry and Hagrid is in Gringotts, is played by the one and only Verne Troyer. Also, I think that was the point of the Dursley's was to show the ridiculous lengths they would go to get away from magic.
Being a huge Harry Potter Fan, yes I started with the movies. I was 9, when Stone came out in theaters. But watching the movies first, and then reading all the books. Best experience, none better.
When the first harry potter book came out (1997) I was 11, the same age as Harry. We grew up together, and we both turned 18 when the Deadly Hallows, the last book, was released. I have this distinct memory of me and my friends glued to the books, far before the movies came out. It was truly magical.
that brick action at your 9:50 totally transitioned my perspective of the movie from kids flick to serious story. Some how CGI budget is really important to me, and that scene nailed it. I first saw this 17 years ago, and that moment still stands out.
Huge Potter nerd here, it's so much fun watching someone see this for the first time and enjoy it! I grew up with these stories, waiting in line for the midnight releases of the books and then the midnight showings of the movies!
Disagree. Hate it when someone who has watched it watches it with someone who hasn’t. They just permanently interject with their interpretation and emotion. I don’t want to watch someone who has already seen it react to it, or effect the person reacting to it. If I wanted to I’d just watch it again myself.
Ron's role was supplying loads of information about the Wizarding World, being the only of the three who had come from it (Harry and Hermione both came from the muggle world)
I can not wait for you to react to the rest of this series. There are so many answers from questions you ask early on that get answered in awesome ways. I absolutely love this series, glad your reacting to it!
Yes, the books came first. I'd love to answer all your questions, but I simply can't - not without spoiling the plot of the next 7 movies. :) One thing that I will comment on is the trios roles in the story and mainly Ron. Harry is of course the main character and "the chosen one" and as such gets the most attention. He is naturally gifted in certain areas of magic (mainly defenssive magic and flying) and fairly average in the rest. He doesn't have the same drive and academic skills as Hermione for sure. Hermione is extremely gifted academicly and has high discipline. as she is known: "the most brilliant witch her age". But like Harry she grew up in the muggle world and all her knowledge about the wizarding world comes from books. She lacks experience. Then we come to mr. Ronald Weasley. He, like Harry, isn't academicly gifted and doesn't have the discipline for studying. Sadly in the movies his character has kinda been reduced to comic relief and many of his lines given to Hermione as she is the "smart one". Ron isn't stupid - for one example: he's the only one of the trio that can actually play chess properly. (the chess sequence was changed in the movie - in the book he doesn't ride the chess piece, but takes its place - so he actually IS knocked out - but I guess they didn't want to show that in a kids movie). His big advantage over both Harry and Hermione is that he's from a wizarding family - he's known magic his whole life and knows how the wizarding world works. His father works at the ministry and his family has been part of the restiance against Voldemort since the beginning.
- Technically, Ron isn't exactly "Riding the Chess Piece" - The piece Ron is 'subbing in for' is called a "Knight", and on properly detailed / fancy chess pieces, the Knight is the man / soldier who is riding a horse, if you watch closely you should see that the second Knight piece has a human riding it, but the one Ron takes is just the Horse, so technically Ron is in place of the Knight because a Knight isn't a horse, but the person riding a horse. But it is interesting to learn from you that in the book they specifically say Ron is on the board without a horse; seems to me like the Movie got it more accurate than the book if the book in fact does specifically eliminate the horse part of the chess piece - at least that would be my viewpoint, lol.
Minor spoiler alert! Nice comment, but your last point isnt exactly true. Rons family wasnt part of the first resistance against voldemort. Lupin states this in the fifth book. Something like "you werent there last time" . Also moody doesnt name them while showing harry the picture of the old order of the phoenix. But i agree with everything else above. So im looking forward to your comment after the last reaction to answer every question :)

The Harry Potter Theory channel did a "What if Harry was in Slytherin" theory, where Hagrid never made the comment about most dark wizards being Slytherins, so Harry didn't insist on "Not Slytherin" to the hat. A very interesting video. Slytherins are NOT "The Bad Guys" as many fans seem to think. It's just that their house values Ambition and cleverness, and a lot of ambitious clever people can break bad more easily. Heck, MERLIN was a Slytherin, and he was about as far from a dark wizard as you can get.
Can we all agree that if magic ever existed, you would study the life out of it!!! Why is Hermione the only nerd? I would have so many degrees in that shit!😂😂
as much as i love the added deleted scenes in these versions of the movies, sorceror's stone sounds so wrong, it always has been and always will be the philosopher's stone
This is my all time favourite series. I read the books many moons ago when I was in primary school and through high school. Please finish this series and I can guarantee you will love it. Every movie gets better and darker. You get to watch these characters grow with each year they spend at Higwarts. It's amaze-balls
Funny you asked what Ron’s role in the trio was cause the movies pretty much cut his role from what I remember. He’s the only one of the three who was raised in a wizard family, so he’s their anchor and guide in a way in the wizard world. He’s also just super loyal and really calm under pressure, which kinda counteracts Hermione who kinda panics when pressed, but they cut that too, so I guess he provides jokes? Is what it is I guess
In the first book the first chapter was literally about all the abuse he had to go through. I remember being horrified as I read it (it was only like 2 years ago). I am so happy that the movies didn't show all the abuse because then the first movie would've been rated r.
I planned to do my yearly rewatch of all the Harry potters...but figured hey why not join with Alex this year and watch it with a friend for the first time! That's how these videos feel 😊
they never explained quidditch right in the movies. catching the snitch gets a set amount of points and ends the match. a LARGE set amount of points. a team can still lose if they catch the snitch if they are too far behind in points compared to the other team. I never understood why they left that part out of the movies and no one questioned it. I mean, what's the point of all the other team members scoring goals otherwise XD
@@damienb8568 But it is. The reactor clearly believes that whoever catches the snitch wins no matter what because that is all the information on the game that the movie gives. But the other team CAN win if they are far enough ahead on points which is spelled out very clearly in the books. If a person has only ever watched the movie as this reactor has, they come away believing the only way to win is to catch the snitch. That perception is the fault of the movie.
@@adiarainfoster During you the game you see that each goal gets you 10 points and it is clearly mentioned, that Gryffindor gets 150 Points for catching the snitch. You can expect your audience to put one and one together.
I just had a revelation -- when Snape says "...up to something" you can really reinterpret the scene from his perspective if you realize he's looking at HARRY'S EYES!!
Books came first Alex. I read them as an adult after my mum recommended them to me. They work for us too, as I think it takes you back to being a kid while being entertaining even as an adult too. First time I've watched the US version. I knew they renamed the books/movie title, but was surprised they even got the actors to redo their lines to fit the title. Added scenes in it too.

Most of his lines and actions were given to Hermione in the movies
Yep I hate all the things the film makers gave to Hermione
I'm guessing you forgot about Goblet of Fire when Ron was all in his feelings no loyalty at all 🤣😂
@@IamMrGoldenAge that was 1 time vs every other time
I went through the first book and I was schocked at that scenen when Ron fights with Draco!
A bit of name pride there, perhaps? ;) (I agree one hundred percent, though :)
Yesss they “dumbed him down” in the movies I live hermione too but seriously they did Ron dirty. As well as Ginny TBH

Glutton. Gluten is the wheat protein that hurts some people's tummies 😂

And now RIP Maggie Smith
The Potter Family have a long history of inventing spells, charms, magical objects and medical potions that people use on a regular basis. Harry being the only surviving member of his family inherited everything. He is the owner of all of those patents. That’s why he’s super rich. The money magically appears in his vault.

I'd say Harry learns through doing, Ron was born and raised on it and Hermione is book smart
Sadly in the movies Ron is the comic relief while Hermione sapped his streetwise qualities.
I've always seen Hermione as the brains, Harry as the courage, and Ron as the heart.

It gets a lot darker and more mature as the series goes on
In the books, Ron is a highly loyal friend, although he has insecurities about being The Chosen One's friend later on when his masculinity becomes more of a thing he wants to assert.

Catching the Golden Snitch doesn't necessarily means your team wins. Catching it awards your team 150 points, which in most cases, means victory because it's rare for a team to even be that far ahead in points.

The first 3 books dropped in the 90s, the 4th in 2000, and the 1st movie released in 2001. The books were gaining a big following before the movie, but afterwards it drew in a huge new audience. I have left nerdom. It has become a personality trait of mine. Lol.
To your point about getting lost in this world: that is absolutely what happened to me as a kid. My childhood was …not ideal. I couldn’t be myself a lot of the time and the Wizarding World was my only escape sometimes. I know this is true for a lot of us who were kids when the books came out.
So true. To the point that I'd stay up till 2am reading and my mom grounded me from reading lmao
Totally relate to this.
The other thing is all the Weasleys are extremely powerful.
That’s what the shop keeper meant when he said, “it’s brother gave you that scar.”
The wands are brothers because both their cores came from the same source.

Your opinions on writing should not be taken seriously
FYI about the Sorting Hat:
- the whole conversation between Harry and SH only happened in his head.
It's actually Gryffindor = brave, Slytherin = evil/school shooters, Ravenclaw = smart, Hufflepuff = normies.
Neville being sorted into Gryffindor may seem odd but the hat could sense the bravery buried deep inside him.
The sorting is actually done in alphabetical order but the movies changed it to just show the main characters' sortings.
And don't forget the directors daughter!
She was important to the story, god dammit!
Ron is their connection to wizard culture, as the only one born and raised in it. He is also surprisingly good in buzzer-beater moments.

During the behind the scenes he mentions that it was an actual piece of debris and you can actually see it leave a cut above his eyebrow in the scene when he gets hit in the face but he didn't even let it phase him and continued to act unconscious.
you can also see his stunt double sitting on the horse in the moment before it explodes, so they switched the actors between the two takes

100% agree.

The movies decided to skip over the "lower class species slaves who are happy to serve" storyline that the books have.
The justification of slavery is tight! Almost like it was foreshadowing the writers opinions in the real world 🤔
I’m already emotional imagining Alex watching that last frame of the 8th movie. How he’ll want to start over right away just so he can go back to Hogwarts.
You have to watch them all!
The fortunate thing is that you'll still want to rewatch the HP movies with your wife sometime after you've finished them all. And she knows it. :)
And read the books, too!
@@PhilBagelsnever read them
You mentioned how cool the movie was despite the fact you're 29. I first watched the movies when I was 59, after reading the books for the first time. I'm 66 now, and I still enjoy reading the books.
Stories have no age limitation for enjoyment
The epicness of this story is that every book/movie becomes more complex, sinister and darker until the climatic ending of the series. Storytelling at its finest.
Yes -- the plots matured in theme and complexity as the main characters did.
The movies such, TBH... The first three were good, the rest go so off from the books that it's just.....

Yeah to a kids movie but I love his reactions
Oh this is nothing is Star Wars he wanted Luke and Lea to make out
Yeah, way too many sex jokes about 11 year olds 😅
@@patrickoconnor6893at least they were adults! Lol
@@LandPirate1 I agree he’s a nightmare
After the first book, there were lines of kids and their parents around bookstores when each new volume was released. The books front-loaded an audience for the movies. Fortunately, the movies recreated the imaginary world of Harry Potter well enough to make the entire series.
It's a funny thing you mention the toad thing because in the actual book, hagrid, when asking Harry to pick a pet, he said "toads Went out of fashion years ago you'd be laughed at"
Hermione: "pertrificous totalus"
Alex: "take your teddy bear pyjamas and go to bed"
Neville: falls
Alex: "Oh..."
This happened to me. Except my neice asked for the 2nd book for Christmas and I was like what is she reading... instant addiction 😂
He is watching the extended version
Wow never even knew there were extended versions 😯
That is exactly my story too. And it was magical indeed!
that brick action at your 9:50 totally transitioned my perspective of the movie from kids flick to serious story.
Also totally get your wife in front of the camera with you for these! That'd be fun!!!
Disagree. Hate it when someone who has watched it watches it with someone who hasn’t. They just permanently interject with their interpretation and emotion. I don’t want to watch someone who has already seen it react to it, or effect the person reacting to it. If I wanted to I’d just watch it again myself.
Troll in the Dungeon.......... so everyone gets sent back to their Dormitory it happens that Slytherin Dormitory is in the Dungeon
yeah, having everyone stay where they are with one or two teachers as protection would have made so much more sense
Ron's role was supplying loads of information about the Wizarding World, being the only of the three who had come from it (Harry and Hermione both came from the muggle world)
I can not wait for you to react to the rest of this series. There are so many answers from questions you ask early on that get answered in awesome ways. I absolutely love this series, glad your reacting to it!
dazed and confused is one of the most underrated movies from the 90's absolute great movie
Yes, the books came first.
I'd love to answer all your questions, but I simply can't - not without spoiling the plot of the next 7 movies. :)
One thing that I will comment on is the trios roles in the story and mainly Ron.
@@stavack_ tbh it's been a while since I read the books last. I know Molly and Arthur weren't there - but I believe both of Mollys brothers were in the first Order and were killed by Death Eaters.
@@Sweeney541 i wasnt able to read for some time now too. So my comment was just from the top of my head. Concerning your point i actually dont remeber it. All i remember is that ron talked about one brother of molly, when he introduced his family to harry in the first book. But i dont remember that this gets picked up at any point later in the book, but probably am i just forgetting about some side comment from lupin or moody
@@stavack_ I think it's mentioned either by Lupin or Moody when looking at the old photo or probably more likely when Harry is gifted the watch for his 17th birthday by Molly and Arthur - I'm pretty sure the watch belonged to Mollys brother Fabian.
Yyyyaaasss can't wait to see how you fall in love with this series as much as I do
I love that you’re watching it on peacock, you got to see the scenes that were cut out cause they “didn’t add to the story” the “first” time you watch it!
And can we just give props to director Christopher Columbus for the excellent casting in these movies? He directed the first two and every character from Harry to the Durnsleys, Dumbledore to Snape were all cast perfectly.
Uh, directors direct. There are other people who do the casting. 4 of them for this particular movie.
If I had an cloak of invisibility I'd listen to what friends and workmates say about me. I'm sorry if i wrote something incorrect (my english is not perfect). Greeting from 🇩🇪
Im just so glad you watched the extended version
What?
Pretty self explanatory @RoseQuartz692
The Harry Potter Theory channel did a "What if Harry was in Slytherin" theory, where Hagrid never made the comment about most dark wizards being Slytherins, so Harry didn't insist on "Not Slytherin" to the hat. A very interesting video.
Slytherins are NOT "The Bad Guys" as many fans seem to think. It's just that their house values Ambition and cleverness, and a lot of ambitious clever people can break bad more easily. Heck, MERLIN was a Slytherin, and he was about as far from a dark wizard as you can get.
Brooooo you're killing it with the movies! SO happy you're watching Harry Potter now!!!!
I know that the movies did Ron kinda dirty, but at least we get an extremely lovable Hagrid. The “Happee Birthdae Harry” cake was beyond sweet.
Can we all agree that if magic ever existed, you would study the life out of it!!! Why is Hermione the only nerd? I would have so many degrees in that shit!😂😂

Love that
Yes! I’m so happy you’re watching these! This series is so good and it’s a crime that people are missing out on it still.
as much as i love the added deleted scenes in these versions of the movies, sorceror's stone sounds so wrong, it always has been and always will be the philosopher's stone
Yes need your reaction to the whole series. You're too hilarious
Is what it is I guess
seeing this genuinely made me so happy, I hope you continue with the series
In the first book the first chapter was literally about all the abuse he had to go through. I remember being horrified as I read it (it was only like 2 years ago). I am so happy that the movies didn't show all the abuse because then the first movie would've been rated r.
LOL it wasn't that bad to make it a R but yes it was stupid bad!
I planned to do my yearly rewatch of all the Harry potters...but figured hey why not join with Alex this year and watch it with a friend for the first time! That's how these videos feel 😊

The amount of sexual comments regarding these 11 year olds is... every single one of them too much...
Unbelievably creepy
@brony_in_the_sticks so it's ok to sëxualize minors if they're fictional characters? mmk bro
@brony_in_the_sticks bait used to be easier to fall for
they never explained quidditch right in the movies. catching the snitch gets a set amount of points and ends the match. a LARGE set amount of points. a team can still lose if they catch the snitch if they are too far behind in points compared to the other team. I never understood why they left that part out of the movies and no one questioned it. I mean, what's the point of all the other team members scoring goals otherwise XD
Because its obvious they can win with the 10 points goals. I dont think its a mistake in the movies
When you said "What does Snape have against Harry?" My mouth instandly went... "Sooo,.."
I just had a revelation -- when Snape says "...up to something" you can really reinterpret the scene from his perspective if you realize he's looking at HARRY'S EYES!!
Can’t wait to see what you think of the rest! As the series goes on and the kids get older it gets pretty dark and semi scary
Yes yes we do see Molfoy's Parents... and plz continue the series, they just get better and better
