Take note of how Jack walks. When he's on a ship, you'll see him walk perfectly straight, it's only on land where he sways as he moves. He spends so much time on the sea he has permanent sea legs.
"Why was he a normal monkey then a death monkey?" Because the monkey took one of the Aztec coins from the stone chest. They said earlier that if even a single coin is taken that it triggers the curse.

It functions perfectly as a standalone film, while also naturally leading into sequels. It's completely genre-defining to the point where no other film IP has even TRIED to imitate it. The sequels aren't bad by any means, but there was no way they could ever hope to match this one.

(and even makes the movie BETTER & more "fun") Sort of like the exaggerated action moments does at times. It is impossible NOT to love Depp in this role. the genius levels of the script are absolutely insane in this one. Besides the obvious smart writing (within three minutes of Elizabeth, Will and her dad, you know literally everything you need to know about any of them). My fav is the final escape. When Jack trips and falls over the edge. It was the only way out. We are told at the beginning there are rocks down there and it's a miracle Elizabeth missed them. We are shown Jack is an excellent diver. He could have Olympic dove that bish. But he did exactly what Elizabeth did. Fell uncontrollably because he knew it is safe that way. It is exactly as you said, Alex. He plays dumb but is always a step ahead.
I've actually never taken that scene that way but I like you analysis. I have always seen it as a subversion of the classic "rule of threes". Two other times in the film we see Jack dive perfectly and I believe his intention was to dive from the wall, but instead his clumsiness takes over and he falls as a comedic gag. Jack has the power of luck and is able to survive the fall much like Elizabeth did in a perfect cyclical moment for the film. I do agree with you however that he was calculating his escape I just don't believe that he intended to fall uncontrollably.
@@redjaredits I agree with your interpretation. I've seen at least one other person recently make the same argument that Jack supposedly tripped on purpose for some reason, but it just seems like an odd thing to try to morph into a specifically intentional act by Jack. He's an extremely cunning character, but he's not totally infallible with every little thing he does. He has his share of stumbles (figuratively and literally) throughout the movies, like when he gets captured due to being bashed on the back of the head by a drunkard, for one example. And it's not like it takes anything away from his overall cunning just because he tripped; he was still certainly about to dive off intentionally. The reason the trip over the wall is in there is because it's a great and funny piece of writing, for the reasons you pointed out, and additionally, because he already said his full line about, "This is the day..." once before in the movie. So the stronger application than just saying the line again and kind of over-playing it is to do what they did and have him cut off mid-sentence. The audience remembers the line, so they still feel the meaning of it, but it becomes a great and memorable moment of comic relief in its own right. With all that said, it basically works either way, so whichever way the viewer interprets it is all good by me.
6:17 In a deleted scene of a sequel it is revealed Commador has heard of him because the commodore himself had Jack charged with piracy after "stealing" ie liberating a ship full of slaves with the explanation. "People aren't cargo mate."
Hector Barbossa’s line, “you best start believing in ghost stories, Miss Turner. You’re in one.” That has to be the most badass thing said in these movies 😎
Johnny literally carries Jack with him everywhere. He's been known to, at a moments notice, to put on the costume and go to a children's hospital to bring some joy. He ia a class act in the truest sense.
"at a moments notice" ya simp ass fool. Dude has a full camera crew with him and full makeup shit ain't "at a moments notice". A moments notice is when you go to fart and wind up shitting your pants.
What creeps me out is… the sent Bootstrap Bill to the crushing depths of the sea, yes? Well, he was still under the curse, so instead of drowning at the time, he was stuck underwater unable to breathe, for years. 😳 They don’t address it directly, but that is… pretty friggin scary and dark to imagine.
"Unable to breathe" makes it sound like he was drowning, when he wasn't. It was definitely scary, I bet, but I think after some time, he probably just accepted it. I'll bet also that he probably wasn't down there very long, since Davey Jones would have detected him somehow, like he does other desperate souls.
The Commodore was always an interesting character to me. With the role he has in the movie, you're almost expected to hate him, but he's still written like a pretty decent dude.
Legit he doesn't really do much wrong in the movie. He is a commodore, of course he won't listen to a random blacksmith when planning the rescue. And of course he will detest Jack, pirates are actual scum of the earth, they rape, pillage, steal and kill. Nothing wrong with pursuing Elisabeth either, he seems to genuinely like her. Then when he gets a clear no he backs off and tell Will he expects him to treat her good.

I cannot stress how much I wish there were still swashbuckling adventure films being made. The Mask of Zorro, The Mummy, The Fifth Element are other great ones.
I'd argue the new Dungeons and Dragons movie is a good swashbuckling adventure. Maybe not the best thing ever, but a solid addition to the adventure movie genre.
Everyone talking about Johnny Depp but Geoffrey Rush as Barbosa is an absolute power house in this. "You best start believing in ghost stories Miss Turner, you're in one" still gives me goosebumps.
I was one of Jack Sparrow's crew in this movie. We filmed in the studio for a few months and then spent six weeks in the Caribbean on a small sland called "St. Vincent & the Grenadines". @24:01 I'm the big. bald guy in the orange shirt tying off some lines in the background behind Elizabeth. (In response to your earlier concern, this movie was Disney's first PG-13 movie.) When we shot this, Keira was only 17 years old. She turned 18 three weeks after we returned from the Caribbean. I was also in the third movie, but I played a different character than the one I played here. Glad you're finally watching this series. They're loads of fun!
Jack's walk. Yes it is like Bellatrix, and fittingly enough Johnny Depp and Helena Bonham Carter are fairly regularly cast in the same films, and while the film implies it's because he went mad on the desert island, that may not actually be the case, on ships of the era it's quite often the case that the tide rocks it from side-to-side and forwards and backwards, meaning the deck under your feet is constantly changing its incline and direction, Jack's admittedly odd style is consistent with walking on a sailing ship, he's so used to living on a ship on the open seas, that he's forgotten how to walk normally on land.
I think he walks normally on the ship and then like that on land. On land, like you said, trying to compensate for the waves and rocking back and forth.
Correct. Navy boy here, it's called Sea Legs, & after a long time out in rough seas, could barely walk down the pier. Staggered like a drunk. Somebody tell this pier to quit moving... Took me almost a week to walk like a normal person. Even sitting, people asked why I swayed so much? (I thought I was sitting still.)
@@mrtim5363same. Navy Boy as well. Weirdest feeling ever. I can attest that being drunk actually makes that feeling go away. Hence why pirates are constantly drunk. To make them feel like they're back at sea!
I love the fact that while a damsel in distress she may be, she isn't stupid. She's more sheltered than anything cause she's the governors daughter. Best example of her not being stupid, third film when they call on The Pirate Code, even she can tell someone doing that is a big deal and that it's not only sacred but you don't do it unless you mean absolute business. Then in this movie she immediately knows they are there for the medallion and knows parts of the pirate code that basically saved her life
He deserves so much more love from the fandom! He always sticks to his values. Very fresh thing to see among back-stabbing pirates without sense of morality who constantly betray each other for their own benefit.
One of the most underrated trilogies ever, in my opinion. The CGI is amazing for it’s time, the actors play their characters so well, it’s so easy to get immersed in the world and setting it’s in. Action, comedy, love, tragedy, twists, etc. It really has it all if you ask me. I think you’ll love the other two
@@UBONME it is. There are other Pirates of Caribbean movies, but the first three are a trilogy. The same way all the Star Wars movies are still Star Wars, but are in separate trilogies.
Truly should be regarded as one of the best trilogies of all time along with the Star Wars, LotR, The Dark Knight etc. The villains are great, the three main characters are very well written, the plots are incredible, the choreographies are really well made, it has heart, fun lines and jokes at the right moments, dark themes at the right moments as well (back when Disney could make a kids movie with dark themes), not everything is spoon fed to you and you are allowed to think without the characters saying everything that is going on or that they are feeling and the dialogue is great.
Johnny Depp made a public statement saying that he refused to do anymore Pirates Of The Caribbean because of the way they treated him during the trial.
Fun fact: originally the studio was considering casting Hugh Jackman as Jack Sparrow, and having the character be much more of a stereotypical, swashbuckling manly pirate, rather than the oddball version we get here.
Fun fact about the underwater boat scene. They had to reshoot it repeatedly and Orlando and Johnny were in the airpocket for a long time. Orlando Bloom got CO2 poisoning and started speaking elvish cuz he thought he was on the Lord of the Rings set.
When you create an entire franchise out of an ancient Disney amusement ride you know you've got something special. Mad props to Depp and Verbinski along with the rest of the cast, can't wait to see the rest of the trilogy.
Fun fact: When filming the scene of them walking underwatwr with the boat, Orlando Bloom got so lightheaded from lack of oxygen that at one point he started talking in Elvish and reciting his lines from Lord of the Rings. Also, there is a deleted scene that would have changed the whole entire course of a decent part of the franchise. Jack and Elizabeth are on the island arguing about escaping and Elizabeth asking if a story about Jack freeing hundreds of slaves from a fortress without firing a single shot is true as well all the other stories about him. Jacks response is to essentially remove his shirt an show Elizabeth how his body is riddled with horrible scars, especially one that looks like a gunshot wound.
you're actually spot on about pirate stories before VS after POTC. There are some very old pirate movies that were serious, but by and large the genre had long since devolved into comedy and then died out. POTC was the first serious pirate movie in a LONG time, and they did it EXTREMELY well. It revived the genre. Without POTC, there would have been no Black Sails, and no Our Flag Means Death.
“We break every other law in the world, but the pirate code stays in tact!” Don’t underestimate the weight of the code. It’s the only law the pirates all agree to abide by.
When I went to see this in the theater it was out of sheer curiosity of how they could make a movie based on a Disney ride. I was so overwhelming pleased.
Geoffrey Rush (Captain Barbossa) is criminally underrated in these movies. Johnny Depp is obviously awesome but god damn Barbossa is fucking amazing too.
This movie came out on my Bday, July 26, when I was 11 and I’ll never forget that movie experience. We were on our way back from a 3 week long family road trip through almost all the historical sites of the west you can think of and we were in El Paso Tx staying the night getting ready to head back to Dallas to our home. We decided to go see Pirates that night because it was my special day even though everyone was tired and I didn’t want to wait till we get back to Dallas lol Seeing all that history and then watching this spectacular fantasy period piece was so magical to me. No one in my family regretted seeing it! My Bday really did feel special as this day marked the beginning of a beautiful franchise and coming out of that theater I knew this movie was going to blow up. It was one of those moments that cemented my fate as a cinephile.
I was too young for this one, but I was 11 when I saw DMC in theaters. It was consolation for my cousin and I since my uncle shot her dog for mauling another dog. What a weird day…
In my opinion Pirates of the Caribbean first trilogy should be regarded as one of the greatest trilogies of all time. The movies are fun, dark, smart, have heart to them and beatiful, plus the choreographies through the movies are great. My favourite is definetly the third one "At World's End" because of the tragedy of the plot that left me thinking every time I watched it when I was younger. Hope to see your reaction to all of them even if I don't like the fifth movie for a lot of reasons but I speacially look forward to the trilogy.
I mean technically he didn't, he lived with Keith Richards and learned from him how to act like Keith Richards as his inspiration for Jack sparrow. Method be method
This one really was a great movie. I'm glad you've gotten to start your Pirates of the Caribbean journey. And, I _know_ that a lot of people get onto some of the movies as being bad... but... for my money, I've enjoyed every last one of them. Not _equally,_ but I honestly, I don't think that there's a single bad movie in the series.
Even Stranger Tides was amusing and it’s all because of Jack. Disney screwed up this franchise as well and didn’t even manage to screw it up because of a terrible movie lmao if Johnny Depp does come back the script better be the best damn thing ever created because I would not be the least bit surprised they pulled an Indy 5 and would lose respect for Johnny caving in with a terrible script.
Yeah, the rest are only really "bad" when directly compared to this one because of just how good this one is. It's always hard to match an original idea especially as it was originally envisioned as a stand-alone movie, with the the sequels rectonning certain aspects, and becoming a bit convoluted in terms of the larger plot (especially the 3rd), but just looking at each individually they're all just great adventure movies.
I feel like all people hating on the 2nd and 3rd movies, but actually I LOVE Davy Jones (maybe because I love Bill Nighy as an actor) and therefore I love them movies
@@Tilariai think people only hated on the 4th and 5th movies. the first 3 are very loved by pretty much everyone and they say pirates is only a trilogy
Keep in mind, that when you find out Will's father was sent to the bottom of the ocean, he didn't die. I always thought the pirates killed him as a kid but Will's father would have been cursed to, so he would have been lost across the ocean, unable to die until his son broke the curse. So, when Will breaks the curse he releases his father from his suffering (until Davey Jones finds him).
@@Samhertzog He did!! He composed the score for the movies, but couldn’t actually conduct the first one I think, which is why Klaus Badelt is known and credited for composing the first one, (curse of the black Pearl) 🏴☠️🎶🎻
That you got goosebumps multiple times during this movie was not only due to perfect scripting, but also due to Hans Zimmer's incredible score. There are few movies as evocative as one underscored by his genius music. Edit: Here's a link to an absolutely astounding live performance of one of the best medleys for an OST I've ever heard. ua-cam.com/video/KvdiMj8ei7Q/v-deo.html It is with Hans Zimmer himself, so you can be certain he approved of it.
@sajohnara147 Zimmer was the director's first choice. He didn't have time to do the film, but wrote a few tunes and gave them to Badeldt to use, uncredited, as a starting point. One was the iconic main theme. Zimmer was correctly credited in the later films, which he managed to fit into his schedule!
Answering your question at the end: the treasure is cursed, whoever takes a medallion gets that curse on the spot, that's why the monkey turned to "zombie monkey" in an instant, and that's why Jack got cursed too
I get the feeling you missed the explanation that those cursed are revealed in the moonlight. That's why, after he took a coin from the box in the stinger, the monkey looked undead in the moonlight.
I adore the main trilogy. It was such an epic adventure. Also the reason why Jack and the monkey turned into skeletons at the end was because, as Barbosa explained to Elizabeth during their dinner, the treasure was cursed. If you took a coin from the treasure, then you'd become cursed to become like an undead and look like a monster under the moonlight. Jack Sparrow took a coin while talking to Barbosa and hid it so that he wouldn't die fighting Barbosa, giving Will and Elizabeth enough time to prepare their coin to break the curse and end everything. After the coins were all returned, everyone was turned back into mortals - even the monkey. However, the monkey also took a coin at the credit scene, making him immortal once more. The curse would restart and only be stopped if the monkey ever returned the coin and repaid with blood.
anybody who was wondering about the way jack walks/runs it's because he's used to being on a ship, he's got sea legs, note that when he's on a rocking boat his walking looks far more normal!
You actually make a great point. Johnny Depp is so iconic in this role that I would say 90% of all people think of him as Jack Sparrow. Regardless on if they've seen the movie. That's the power of character
every time I see the next announcement from Alex, “for the first time I see this or that film”, I ask myself one question - where did Alex live for the first 20-25 years of his life and how could someone not see any of this ... 😂
Only watching these movies multiple times can you pick up on some of the weird details. To me, Jack asking the two redcoats why they are there instead of Norringtons promotion ceremony is just him wondering if theyre stupid enough to let him aboard the ship theyre guarding to see if it's worth stealing. They were, and it was.
Thank you for this reaction. I usually don't comment videos but I am watching your videos for a few months now and and I am always having such a great and funny time watching you. This one really made my day! Keep it up, I love your sence of humor.
Funny how you see Jack Sparrow and Bellatrix has the same walk, since those two actors have been working in multiple films for ages like Elms Street, Chocolate Factory, Alice in Wonderland, etc
Im beyond excited for Dead Mans Chest. The plot is incredible, introduces one of the most iconic villians of all time, has some of the funniest parts in the series, and is just an all around amazing movie.
These movies are nothing without Johnny! He is perfection! FYI- Johnny and the actress who plays belletrix are actually very good friends! She is also amazing in anything she plays.
Alex not understanding the curse even at the very end when the monkey steals a coin is hilarious. But to be fair, it is confusing how it actually works. Technically Elizabeth stole a coin from Will, but she was never cursed. Like, do you have to steal it from the actual chest? I guess that is it.
“This man looks like a combination of Captain America and Nicholas Cage” 🤣🤣🤣 When you said it, I paused and looked at him more and was like “oh shit. He does.” Norrington was my favorite. This came out the summer before I started High School and I saw it in theaters 5 times (loved it so much). Every other 14 year old girl was obsessed with Orlando or Johnny. I was really into Jack Davenport (Norrington). Similar thing happened with Twilight. I wasn’t into Jacob or Edward. I liked Bella’s Dad Charlie… I was only 19 🤣
"dude, you look like the Quaker Oats dude, you're talking about ORLANDO BLOOM, who do you think she's gonna pick?!" I'm a little ashamed of how hard I LOL'd at that xD
That last line “Drink me hearties YO HO” and he slams the compass shut, thats always my goosebumps moment. I saw this opening night in the theaters, i was in high school, i went into it thinking it was gonna be a cheesy disney movie, my face was melted off lol.
“I don’t even want to imagine; five guys get a hold of a girl like that, what could happen.” That’s why I’d want to live in a Disney universe if I had to portal into one. There’s much less of a chance what would actually happen would happen.
Except that the pirates definitely would’ve done exactly that even in this movie. Only reason they didn’t was because they wouldn’t be able to feel it. Remember how Barbossa says ”Waste not”
Really enjoyed watching how much YOU enjoyed this! It seemed like you were just genuinely having a wonderful time and that's so feel good to watch. Hope you do the rest of the series!!
two things that make this movie what it is, and totally weren't meant to: Hans Zimmer's soundtrack, which he gave to his assistant to write, and Johnny Depp's performance, which was meant to be a sidekick to Orlando Bloom.
In case you didn't realize, the sailor at the beginning who tells off Elizabeth for singing about pirates later becomes Jack's best friend and a pirate himself.
*Alex Hefner* - First the monkey was undead by the curse just like the rest of the pirastes because he to took a coin in the first place as well, and for a little while he was alive/uncursed since Will broke the curse with his blood, but then the monkey took again one of the coins which means it became undead and under the curse again. It either wanted to be undead or it took it again out of greed. -Everytime someone takes any of those aztec cursed coins from the source where they belong, those will be under the curse until the same proceedure of breaking the curse happens again. It wasn't broken until many years later by Will because EVERYONE that took the coins had to not only return them but also give a bit of blood and since Bootstrap was already "dead" by then Will was the last one to use his blood because Bills blood runs in Wills. They also spent alot of time to finding every single one of those coins again because they spent them as any money before feeling the effects of the curse and becoming aware of it.
The thing about these movies that really gets me, is there originally were no plans for sequels, this was supposed to be a one & done but they managed to make it feel like it was always intended to be a trilogy.
I love how you started this movie saying it’s probably some girls fantasy to get with a pirate and then almost immediately agreed and now you also want to be a pirate 😂😂 The soundtrack? Slaps. The costumes? Slaps. The story? Slaps. The urge to become a scallawag pirate? Absolutely there! Will turner was my first hardcore crush (to the point I had him on my notebooks for school, had multiple pirate themes birthday parties, and also dressed up as a pirate for many a Halloween and this has morphed into me loving ren fairs) and he will always be one of my crushes because there’s just something about being a little rough around the edges. And Orlando bloom. He’s just too handsome (yes Legolas is also on that crush list) Anyway all this to say that these are some of my absolute favorite movies. Comfort movies almost. They make me feel like a giddy kid and let me tell you the storyline for 2 and 3 is just ugh such good writing. Such good acting. Magnificent 👌🏻 I can’t wait for the reactions!!

"Are you mad?"
"If I wasn't, this would probably never work."
6:17 In a deleted scene of a sequel it is revealed Commador has heard of him because the commodore himself had Jack charged with piracy after "stealing" ie liberating a ship full of slaves with the explanation. "People aren't cargo mate."
You're thinking of Cutler Becket not norrington
@@archfiend221 sorry, my bad, I’m terrible with names.
Hector Barbossa’s line, “you best start believing in ghost stories, Miss Turner. You’re in one.”
That has to be the most badass thing said in these movies 😎
Yeah I often quote that line whenever I think of pirates iconic
It's one of the best lines in any movie.
i always love the 'you forgot to specify when or where' line
10:48 Rule 81 of The Pirate Code: No laughing at the words "Poop Deck"
Johnny literally carries Jack with him everywhere. He's been known to, at a moments notice, to put on the costume and go to a children's hospital to bring some joy. He ia a class act in the truest sense.
"at a moments notice" ya simp ass fool. Dude has a full camera crew with him and full makeup shit ain't "at a moments notice". A moments notice is when you go to fart and wind up shitting your pants.
Still remember a video of him showing up at Disney land or something all dressed up and performing for kids :)
Here here
And the bond between him and Captain Kori (of Kraken the Box) was so special. RIP Captain Kori, Fair winds and following seas. 🫡
What creeps me out is… the sent Bootstrap Bill to the crushing depths of the sea, yes? Well, he was still under the curse, so instead of drowning at the time, he was stuck underwater unable to breathe, for years. 😳
They don’t address it directly, but that is… pretty friggin scary and dark to imagine.
They do address this in the second movie though just not the first.
by "sent to the depths of the sea" they meant he was given to davy jones. The curse was kind of irrelevant to him at that point.
@@silverstar1178 No, he was unable to die tied to the bottom of the ocean until Davy Jones found him.
The Old Guard does the "eternally drowning" thing as well! It's given more credit too.
Only Johnny Depp can play caption jack.
Champion of the Hard of Hearing
Yes he is the best pilot
"captain" not "caption"
Fact!
Johnny is captain jack
The Commodore was always an interesting character to me. With the role he has in the movie, you're almost expected to hate him, but he's still written like a pretty decent dude.
Legit he doesn't really do much wrong in the movie. He is a commodore, of course he won't listen to a random blacksmith when planning the rescue. And of course he will detest Jack, pirates are actual scum of the earth, they rape, pillage, steal and kill. Nothing wrong with pursuing Elisabeth either, he seems to genuinely like her. Then when he gets a clear no he backs off and tell Will he expects him to treat her good.
@@Mrsuperdestroyerik its the times but when you realize she was a little kid when he was already an adult and he knew her as a kid and then wants to marry her its gross

elizabeth starts 12 years of age in the opening scene, norrington at 20 already being an officer is quite good work especially ferrying a governour, while it is nowadays ethically a problem to plan a future with a 12 year old it fit into the general theme of the time period, for christs sake the governour waited a shitload of time by that times standard to push elizabeth towards marriage
I cannot stress how much I wish there were still swashbuckling adventure films being made. The Mask of Zorro, The Mummy, The Fifth Element are other great ones.
Seconding the first two, they're awesome! Would love to see more reactions to them. Last one I still haven't caught but its at the top of my list.
I'd argue the new Dungeons and Dragons movie is a good swashbuckling adventure. Maybe not the best thing ever, but a solid addition to the adventure movie genre.
@@xXPixXxThe Fifth Element should be a priority
@@MasterBetty69 Noted :) It's slotted for my next movie night♥
@@xXPixXxI’ve just recently watched the last element and it’s incredible, especially if you like the other two!
Everyone talking about Johnny Depp but Geoffrey Rush as Barbosa is an absolute power house in this. "You best start believing in ghost stories Miss Turner, you're in one" still gives me goosebumps.
Back in the good old days when Disney actually made not only majestic cartoons, but also magnificent feature movies…
Yup, but at least some of their other Studios still put out good movies!
(In response to your earlier concern, this movie was Disney's first PG-13 movie.)
When we shot this, Keira was only 17 years old.
@@edelmar17 You got it...
@@mrtim5363same. Navy Boy as well. Weirdest feeling ever. I can attest that being drunk actually makes that feeling go away. Hence why pirates are constantly drunk. To make them feel like they're back at sea!
That is VERY interesting Navy Boys
I adore Elizabeth so much! She has the best development out of any character throughout this trilogy.
Then in this movie she immediately knows they are there for the medallion and knows parts of the pirate code that basically saved her life
14:31 Norrington to me is one of the best characters in this series. As the movies come you grow to appreciate the man.
He’s one of my favorites too!
He deserves so much more love from the fandom! He always sticks to his values. Very fresh thing to see among back-stabbing pirates without sense of morality who constantly betray each other for their own benefit.
I wouldn't say no to a proposal from Commodore Norington.
I agree. I like Norrington's growth in this series.
You probably remember Commandant Norrington from “Kingsman: The Secret Service” as agent Lancelot killed in the beginning
Fun fact: Johnny Depp had a baby bat named after Jack Sparrow, Jackie Sparrow, and he got to hold and feed said baby bat, dressed as Captain Jack.
This is what you call a perfect movie. Perfectly cast, directed, written and performed.
Fr
Jack stumbled backwards off the side at the end on purpose because he knew Elizabeth fell of their by accident so he knew he would land safely 😂
I don't see Jack as someone who often relies on safety. 😂
One of the most underrated trilogies ever, in my opinion. The CGI is amazing for it’s time, the actors play their characters so well, it’s so easy to get immersed in the world and setting it’s in. Action, comedy, love, tragedy, twists, etc. It really has it all if you ask me. I think you’ll love the other two
It’s not a trilogy.
@@UBONME it is. There are other Pirates of Caribbean movies, but the first three are a trilogy. The same way all the Star Wars movies are still Star Wars, but are in separate trilogies.
@@romeywirtz1219 You’re right. My mistake.
How tf is it underrated if it's one of the most popular movie franchises ever
Rightfully so. They threw him under the bus the INSTANT Amber made her fake-ass allegations against him.
Fun fact: originally the studio was considering casting Hugh Jackman as Jack Sparrow, and having the character be much more of a stereotypical, swashbuckling manly pirate, rather than the oddball version we get here.
And then Johnny Depp came and changed everything himself lol
So glad Johnny played him, and the rest is history
Fun fact about the underwater boat scene. They had to reshoot it repeatedly and Orlando and Johnny were in the airpocket for a long time. Orlando Bloom got CO2 poisoning and started speaking elvish cuz he thought he was on the Lord of the Rings set.
When you create an entire franchise out of an ancient Disney amusement ride you know you've got something special. Mad props to Depp and Verbinski along with the rest of the cast, can't wait to see the rest of the trilogy.
wait what??? the franchise was made from an amusement ride? i had absolutely no idea..
@@TvojaMAMA77 it wasn't
I’ve been on the ride at Disneyland.
@@whatthefox7435 YES, it was.

Thanks for telling me I never knew that I wish they’d kept that in
you're actually spot on about pirate stories before VS after POTC.
“We break every other law in the world, but the pirate code stays in tact!”
Don’t underestimate the weight of the code.
It was one of those moments that cemented my fate as a cinephile.
nice
Johnny Depp used Keith Richard's of The Rolling Stones as his muse for Jack's mannerisms. He even tied beads in his hair like Keith, he said.
Aye plays his dad 3rd one
I mean technically he didn't, he lived with Keith Richards and learned from him how to act like Keith Richards as his inspiration for Jack sparrow. Method be method
To this day I still giggle every time Jack arrives at Port Royal on his sinking boat 😆Brilliant scene
The first three are way above average to perfect films really. The later ones are still decent, but not quite the first three imo.
BEST SOUNDTRACK EVER!!!! Hans zimmer must of been POSSESSED putting this soundtrack together in a night 💀🎻🏴☠️
Hans Zimmer didn't write it
@@Samhertzog He did!!

It is with Hans Zimmer himself, so you can be certain he approved of it.
I'd never heard that medley before, thank you so much for recommending it! 😭
Klaus Badelt made the music score for the first POTC movie. He should get the right credits for creating something so iconic.
A whole new movie franchise cant wait to see you react to them all !!!
Jack clicking shut the compass in time with the cut to black is one of the most satisfying badass ending shots to a movie _ever._
32:40 It’s his tail.
Elizabeth’s father wants his wig because those were a symbol of power
"Whose side is Jack on?"
"...at the moment?"
The ultimate summation of Captain Jack Sparrow.
Hey, so, uh, turners out that Elizabeth Swann was actually only 17 during the filming of this movie... Just FYI.

Fun fact, Alex. Elizabeth's dad is the High Sparrow on Game Of Thrones!
I think that's it. The pirates spent the gold, and the people to whom they traded weren't cursed - only actual thieves are cursed.
I think they said it’s the action of taking a coin directly out of the chest that curses you. Which is how Jack and the monkey both did it.
“This man looks like a combination of Captain America and Nicholas Cage” 🤣🤣🤣
When you said it, I paused and looked at him more and was like “oh shit. He does.”
Norrington was my favorite. I liked Bella’s Dad Charlie… I was only 19 🤣
The woman that said "the Black Pearl is yours" to Jack is Gamora. Just that
PotC is one of those movies that is timeless. It could have come out in 1990, in 2000, 2010, or 2020, and it would STILL be amazing.
"dude, you look like the Quaker Oats dude, you're talking about ORLANDO BLOOM, who do you think she's gonna pick?!"

That last line “Drink me hearties YO HO” and he slams the compass shut, thats always my goosebumps moment. I saw this opening night in the theaters, i was in high school, i went into it thinking it was gonna be a cheesy disney movie, my face was melted off lol.
"Willy Wonka vs the Chocolate Factory" 🤣🤣🤣 Had to pause because of a fit of laughter, never change Alex, your humour is right up my alley!
“I don’t even want to imagine; five guys get a hold of a girl like that, what could happen.”
That’s why I’d want to live in a Disney universe if I had to portal into one. There’s much less of a chance what would actually happen would happen.
Except that the pirates definitely would’ve done exactly that even in this movie. Only reason they didn’t was because they wouldn’t be able to feel it. Remember how Barbossa says ”Waste not”
pirates respect the code of parley which is basically a meeting of enemies to discuss terms.
love that you’re finally watching these movies, they’re absolute gems
"Dude you look like the quacker oats dude... You are talking about Orlando Bloom. Who do you think she's gonna pick?" 😂

Burt Lancaster in "The Crimson Pirate." The underwater canoe gag was lifted DIRECTLY from that film. Worth hunting down.
omg I can't believe you starting to watch these movies, this is gonna be so much fun
two things that make this movie what it is, and totally weren't meant to: Hans Zimmer's soundtrack, which he gave to his assistant to write, and Johnny Depp's performance, which was meant to be a sidekick to Orlando Bloom.
In case you didn't realize, the sailor at the beginning who tells off Elizabeth for singing about pirates later becomes Jack's best friend and a pirate himself.
“Master And Commander”
With ‘The Spaniard’ , would seem be a natural “next”
Alex making the connection to Bellatrix makes me want him to watch Johnny and Helenas movies together
Fun fact Depp based the character on Keith Richards, Keith even plays a role in the later movies
I love how you started this movie saying it’s probably some girls fantasy to get with a pirate and then almost immediately agreed and now you also want to be a pirate 😂😂
The soundtrack?
He’s just too handsome (yes Legolas is also on that crush list)

This series, for me, ends after “World’s End” (the third one). The others were just fluff to me.
It’s funny you mention Johnny walking like Bellatrix because he and Helena Carter are old friends.
the thing i really love about this trilogy is they make everyone lovable in their own way even the villains
Watch Jack carefully. He only walks oddly on land. On board ship he walks normally.
