Who Will Save Your Soul is a must listen. She was only 16!. She took a train from Michigan to San Diego and then into Tijuana and hitchhiked around Mexico. She wrote it during that trip. There is a whole story about her getting caught up in a drug bust (had nothing to do with her) Just at the wrong place at the right time or vice Versa.
I you want to hear about the drug bust. Look for Steve Poltz's telling of it since he was with her. Steve wrote "I Was Meant for You" with her. He is an awesome storyteller and a great musician himself.
Jewel’s family had their own series called Alaska the Last Frontier with the Kilcher family on their homestead which was started by Jewel’s grandfather. Jewel showed up on some of the episodes. Great series.
I've said it before, I'm 56 my sister is 57. Daddy is our hero, our rock, he's always been there. When we were little he'd come home from work as a welder and we would climb up to his shoulders, one on each side. We were so happy then as now to see our Daddy. To this day, when the three of us are together, I'm on one side and sister is on the other side of Daddy. Thank God we still have him!! Girl Daddies are THE BEST!
Sebs, it was so great to hear that your biggest goal in life is to be a good dad to your girls. I had one daughter in my life and I dedicated everything to her. She’s my greatest accomplishment and NOTHING else in my life even comes close to her and her love. My one shining star! As a 38 year old she loves me now as much as she did as a little girl. Keep going Sebs, it’s worth every second of your effort.
Hi Sebs, wow, that brought tears to my eyes, I am 61 years old and I am still my father's daughter and I felt every word of that beautiful song. Jewel like Dolly is a true song bird with the voice of an angel. She is also an amazing actress as well and has been in several movies. She has done quite a bit of acting on the Hallmark Channel as well in recent years.
If you ever watched on TV, Alaska The Last Frontier it is a reality show about her family homesteading life . She appeared on the series several times.
Jewel got quite a bit of folk and country some rock some pop some soul…you should go a discovery of her albums! Loved this reaction. Thanks for sharing!
It makes my heart happy to hear you say that everything revolves around your two girls. Please stay on that path, fathers do not realize how important every word they say and how they treat their daughters impacts their lives and relationships with men in the future . I do not at all resonate with this song, but love Jewel and Dolly. It makes my heart Happy that one of my brothers biggest goals in life has been to be a better father to his children.
I am proud to have been fortunate enough to be introduced to Jewel through going to local shows at Java Joe's in Ocean Beach in '95-'97. One of my favorite bands at the time (The Rugburns) had played there and my Navy buddies and I went there on the night of Jewel's CD release party and it was a magical night to be sure.
Jewel is amazing. Side note being a girl dad is precious. We lost our daughter Kaitlyn at 25yr young. My husband was born to be a "girl Dad " Chris loves Kaitlyn and supported everything that girl ever did, including allowing to turn her hair bright pink. Even after I said it was ok and he said no way. All Kaitlyn had to do with smile at her Daddy who she loved with all her ❤ and my amazing husband and her amazing Dad gave her what she wanted knowing noone else would be hurt
Jewel was named right and she shines as bright as any star in the sky ...her family's strength keeps her grounded...I can tell by the way you talk about your girls that they have a great dad....I've always felt lucky to have been raised by parents who were "present" in my life and still are...the best thing you can give your girls is your time ...just dance man they will remember it always....just subscribed and I'm looking forward to more great content....Karl from eastern Canada👍👍👍🍁🍁🍁
I was raised by a single dad,and his parents and this song moves me to tears every time, because I remember dancing in the kitchen with my grandpa to Hank Williams sr. Reccords, and with my dad dancing to 70s rock. Its amazing So 26 cents from the wilkinsons. Its an older song, and not well known but its a seriously beautiful song. And I'm just suggesting it
Jewel is the daughter of Atz Kilcher from the famed TV show Alaska the Last Frontier.. those pictures are from that show… “ These Hands” by Jewel as a beautiful song 🎵
I'm 67yrs old, I lost my Dad almost 10 years ago. I was standing by his bed rubbing his hair as he took his last breath. That very moment I felt my heart break. He was a kind , gentle soul. He was my hero, and I will miss him everyday until I draw my last breath.
What a lucky woman you've been. So sorry for the loss of such a giant of a man to you. I never got to have that kind of dad and at the age of 66, my heart still aches for the love of a father. God bless
I know Jewel has many beautiful songs❤ and Dolly Parton as well ❤. They both grew up in a hard kind of life.😢 But the beauty they brought from it is amazing!!😢😢❤❤
Listen to jewels 2 of many great songs, but these 2 are simple, but so powerful,, & love is in every verse.. they are, "satisfied", & "count to ten" or just the word "ten", I can relate to both of these wonderful, heart warming, & things we really do & are going to do... you won't regret it.
Love Jewel. I often listen to her when I paint. I'm still obsessed with her 90's songs: * Foolish Games * Hands * You were Meant for Me * Standing Still
That IS Jewel's story, that IS her family, they have a TV show about living in Alaska, and she appears on the show sometimes. It's Alaska's Last Frontier... Jewel's music is great.
I feel old when you don't know who Jewel is. She was everywhere when i was 20 something. Then i guess she got tired of the spotlight. Haven't seen her in awhile. I reckon she's raising a family somewhere, focused on things more important than music. This song with Dolly was wonderful!
I’m sure you are a great dad. You have a beautiful family. And God bless you with a beautiful family. You will always be there favorite Dad. May God Bless you and your beautiful family. I love to hear you when you’re on. ❤❤❤❤ 🙏🙏🙏🙏
You mentioned how some people make fun of patriotism in country music, and i have to say, i am usually a huge baby when it comes to it. I always end up shedding tears when listening to songs like this. Another song you might like is Some gave all by billy ray cyrus. Also, a couple songs that tell stories that i can think of off the top of my head would be If Nobody believed in you by Joe Nichols, and the impossible, also by joe Nichols.
As a great dad you need to watch and react to "Emotional DAD surprised by his kids who applied for the show for him! auditions BGT"P.S. your wife will like it too...hope you enjoy it and thanks for your honest heartfelt reactions...Karl from eastern Canada🍁🍁🍁🍁
As the mother of two beautiful girls I MUST encourage you to listen to Harry Chapin’s “ Tangled Up Puppet”. It’s about raising girls through that period of life when they stretch into independence. It’s all a part of growing up when we realize we have to let go because we want them strong but we’re just tangled up puppets. PLEASE listen to the live version! Love your reactions!
SIDENOTE: there was some breakdown of your sound while speaking after the video. Might wanna check for a loose cord or wire. This will be an amazing rabbit hole to explore! Her music is as unique and mesmerizing as her voice! Several outstanding songs have been mentioned already and any of those, or all of those, are worthy. Don't be afraid to share your girl-dad feelings with us! Most of us have daughters. Except me, just two sons. But I got granddaughters!!! 😊😊😊
I think one of the best girl dad songs out there has to be Harry Chapin and his song “ Tangled Up Puppet”. It would be worth a long listen. You get a great song and Harry’s storytelling and unique and emotional delivery.
I know it's not the same Brian. But good'on him or "her". I of course love Dolly forever. Jewel is special and was in my 90's ish. I donated a bit for a performance I'd love to see but I will donate some more to get a little more Jewel when she was the shit. I don't steer you wrong and check out both my ok donation and this Jewel song. Love ya dude. I guess weirdly is another Brian. Jewel is an absolute Jewel. Please listen on your own time or share - just me sharing. And don't forget Peter Gabriel live.
The first time I heard of Jewel was from a TV production, "The Wizard of Oz -- In Concert" back in the 90's. Absolutely blew me away. Here's the video: ua-cam.com/video/LNntXzI1EkU/v-deo.htmlsi=o6R_fAia_epA2Dgj
You might like watching a Breakdown (with Miyum Bialik) program. It's title is - Jewel: Turn Your Life Around One Thought at a Time. Not as a reaction, but to hear about Jewel from Jewel.
Jewel is a Treasure...as is Dolly. Both very strong and resilient women.

Jewel’s family had their own series called Alaska the Last Frontier with the Kilcher family on their homestead which was started by Jewel’s grandfather. Jewel showed up on some of the episodes. Great series.
I love that series! Yes Jewel would bring her son so he could be taught some of the homestead way of living!

One of my MOST favorite Luther VanDross songs “Dance with my Father”. CANNOT WAIT! 😊❤
I'm crying. I lost dad 5 years ago and not a day goes bye that I don't miss him. I am my father's daughter 💜
7 years here. So true, I'm also my father's daughter 💜Miss him so much.

I notice that you’re so much more comfortable in front of the camera than you used to be. Proud to see. Ali is as well. 😊
You’re a great Dad! Enjoy those simple moments with your Girls, you’re going to miss them one day ❤

Dads are the first superheroes and knights in shining armor for daughters. What a great song and video!
Hands, Who Will Save Your Soul, Foolish Games to start. Life Uncommon is my favorite, but lesser known song.

Great song. Dolly sure has had a long career and everyone loves her.
