6 decades in the music business. 40 years as owner of her own theme park, DollyWood. Grammy, Emmy, Golden globe winner, and Tony nominated. The most awarded country artist. The list goes on and on. Dolly IS the Queen of Country. No one will ever fill her very high shoes. #GOAT
For an old people love story: dear family friend had last his wife of 52 years...waiting at an airport layover, he hears someone call his name. It was the girl he took to his prom 70 years prior!! She had lost her hubby of 54 years. They were married 3 months later and together another 8 years :)
The best thing that ever happened was the fact they broke up, the second best thing that ever happened is a chance meeting many years later. Sometimes we don't understand, we just have to have faith that we are where we need to be.
Sometimes in order to have a happy marriage you just have to accept your partner's limitations. I once asked my husband if he loved me and he said, "You know I love you." I told him, "Yes, but sometimes I just like to hear it." He then said to me, "Look, I told you I love you. If I ever change my mind I'll let you know but until them you can assume I still love you." I don't recall him telling me he loved me very often but he SHOWED me every day that he loved me. If I wanted something, it got done. We were having dinner one evening and I looked at the little tiny dining room and the little tiny kitchen and I said, "You know, someday I would like for us to take this wall down so this is one large room and I would have enough space for a dishwasher." When he finished eating he got up and got a crowbar and started knocking the wall down. I told him, "I didn't necessary mean you had to do it right now." and his response was, "If you want it done, there's no time like the present." Did he love me? I think the answer to that is yes. We were married for 31 wonderful years before he died of complications from Alzheimer's. That was 16 years ago and I still miss him every day.
Here's an old people story related to music. When I was 19 I ran off and married the guitar player from a rock band. They said it wouldn't last. October 12th is our 50th anniversary. Life is good.
I already knew the ending of the story while you were talking about the devotion and acceptance of duty. Knew your jaw was fixin' to drop with the end. 😦 Country music is 3 chords and the truth, and Dolly is one of the best truth tellers in her songs.
"To Daddy"" is a country song, written by Dolly Parton. It was performed by Emmylou Harris in the 1970s, included on her album Quarter Moon in a Ten Cent Town and released as a single. Having reached number three on Billboard's Hot Country chart, Harris's version is the most familiar to most people.
Your reaction tells me what a good man you are. You took the words of the song to heart and immediately wanted to make sure your wife has wings to fly. Not every woman has a man like that. You and Ali are blessed to have each other ❤❤
Never take another day for granted. Be patient and always take their call. I never dreamed there would come a day I would struggle trying to remember the sound of their voice. God bless them for their long life...some is luck, some very good genetic and DNA, but I bet they live a Godly life and have taken amazingly good care of their bodies. What an amazing example of what true love really is....may we all be lucky enough to know this kind of love!
How wonderful. I hope we make it that long. At 69 I am already having my 50th so you never know. My husband is three years older than me, same as your parents.
Dolly Parton is without question the Queen of Country Music, and in all aspects of her life and heart, Dolly is a National Treasure. Sebs Duran your music reaction and song discussions are fabulous, more so when your wife joins.
Dolly, Emmylou, and Linda Ronstadt were friends decades ago. They finally were able to record an album together, which went platinum and won a Grammy award. The harmonies are divine. Take a listen!
Dolly is a true country icon and I have loved her music my entire life I am 45 so it has been a spell. All of her songs tell stories and they are so beautiful
Dolly Parton has lived the life she writes and sings about. You may have heard about the free book program she provides to children ages one through five years of age to help them learn to love to read.
A song about a mother leaving her family was groundbreaking for Country, just like Loretta Lynn's 'The Pill,' about female birth control. I believe Loretta was the first Queen of Country, but I can't see giving Dolly any lesser title.
Alison Krauss was Dolly's back-up/harmony singer for so long because their voices are so similar. Her solo career has been very successful and I do believe Dolly supports that.
I live next to Lake Michigan, Gods jewel on earth. They are called lakes, but they are freshwater inland seas. The waters of Lake Superior are known as some of the most dangerous in the world. The line Superior never gives up her dead comes from the fact that the water is so cold bodies do not flost back to the surface. Please do explore the Great Lakes! I have been all over the world, and there is no place else like it!
As for "Bringing your wife her wings and let her fly ... " I can wholeheartedly recommend "Eagle when she flies" from the same wonderful Queen of country, miss Dolly.
YOU have a great heart! So the song awakened your emotions and touched you in a very strong way! That’s actually beautiful! Especially nowadays when so many people have become so cold-hearted, detached, and almost stoic!
The first woman to be called The Queen of Country Music was Kitty Wells, who in the early 1950s became the first nationally popular female country singer (up until that time it had been the conventional wisdom that female country artists didn't sell) with her hit "It Wasn't God Who Made Honky-Tonk Angels," an answer song to Hank Thompson's "Wild Side of Life." It might be interesting for you and Ali to listen to "Wild Side of Life" followed by "It Wasn't God Who Made Honky Tonk Angels."
I have another video reaction for you to consider: "Let It Be Me" performed by the Everly Brothers in 1984 at the Royal Albert Hall in London. If you enjoy close harmony this is the song. The brothers had argued and stopped touring together in 1973. They started singing together when they were children on their parents' radio show. After 11 years apart, they decided to make peace and music once more. After so many years apart, they could just look at each other and all the decades of harmonizing enabled them to achieve perfection.
If you haven't heard her new rock album it's actually pretty good. I listened to her version of Purple Rain with trepidation but it wound up being really good. check it out
Dolly didn't write the song for Emmy. Emmy heard it before Dolly recorded it and begged her to have the song. Dolly graciously agreed. If you know Dolly's life, you'll know this is very autobiographical with some artistic freedom. I love it, and always miss my mom when I listen to this.
Dolly is amazing. One fact did you know she has a wig for every day of the year. When asked how many wigs she owns, Dolly mentioned she wears one every day, so she must have at least 365.
Dolly has written many songs with a surprise ending: Down from Dover (1970), The Bridge, and many others. One other song you must hear is Traveling Man.
she is a one and only for stories honestly told from her true country heart...check her out she has written THOUSANDS of songs for herself and others and she keeps going on...where she gets all ideas if fascinating...
My uncle was on the ship and got off the ship in the last port before the Edmund Fitzgerald went down. He knew all but the 2 people who boarded as he exited. Very sad.
Dolly Parton is up there with Lennon/McCartney, Gershwin, John/Taupin and so many others as the best songwriters of all time. She just released a rock album in November and it's a lot of fun. She's the best.
Dolly has literally written thousands of songs. I'd recommend most of what I've heard her sing, with one exception. She did a song titled "Me And Little Andy". I do not recommend listening to that song. I wondered why she would write such a song. I read that some drunk also took exception to it during her nightclub act back in the day and she dropped it from her act.
I agree that the stories are absolutely incredible...and most of them are a catharsis for the song writers...Chris Stapleton and Jelly Roll are some great examples of this fact...I just turned 70 and I love country music BUT I am quite eclectic in my musical tastes...I listen to e'erybody from Mozart to Metallica... Disturbed and FFDP are two of my favorites...❤❤️❤️
Dolly is great along with a few other popular country queens but there's one I have not heard or seen in comments, the one that started it all for women of country music. Don't get me wrong, Dolly is absolutely fantastic but the one that I and hopefully others won't forget is Patsy Cline. Check it out. I believe her most popular hit was named " Crazy ". BTW Like your reactions. KEEP ON TRUCKIN'.
Here are a few songs you should check out too. "Ain't You Even Going to Cry" Jim Ed Brown, "Farewell Party" Gene Watson, "Stay All Night, Stay A Little Longer" Willie Nelson, "It's Hard to Kiss the Lips at Night That Chewed Your Ass All Day Long" Vince Gill, "Out Behind the Barn" Little Jimmy Dickens, "Waltz Across Texas" Willie Nelson, "Old Friends" Willie Nelson & Roger Miller, "After All This Time" Rodney Crowell, "Inside Out" Lee Greenwood
Dolly Parton definitely is a queen of country. If you like that type of songwriting, you should certainly listen to Reba McEntire Fancy. It's incredible as is most every song that Reba does.
I met my 2nd husband when I was 25... he was 36 and had 3 children, I had 1 from my 1st marriage. I was so naive.. I thought he loved me... I know now that he just wanted a Mom for his kids because he got custody of his children.. I went from 1 5 yr old boy to 2 five year old boys and 2 girls 4 and 9 months .. stay at home Mom... he truly took advantage of my heart..
She is an awsome song writer. She has a few songs that I could suggest of hers. Coat Of Many Colors,Jolene, Jolene, and Islands in the Stream duet with Kenny Rogers.
Emmylou was the author of this as well as many other deeply emotional songs which others have covered and made popular. Alison Krauss, Emmylou & Dolly together would knock you out!
She is absolutely the Queen, She has written so many songs for over 6 decades. You can go an a huge deep dive of her music. I know some people don't like it, but her new album Rockstar, is pretty awesome.
I see a bouquet of flowers in someone's future 😍 There are a few "Queens of Country." Dolly is one. Reba is another. We can definitely let Faith wear the same crown. Hey Seb, country music is just plan story telling. And it tells some of the best stories.
Dolly wrote the song for herself. She allowed Emmylou ro the recording session and Emmylou begged so much to be allowed to use the song as her own single. To the anger and frustration of Porter Wagoner, who was recording Dolly's new album, Emmylou had a #1 hit with Dolly's song.
I saw Dolly at a company Dinner Party in Dallas in the 80’s she is tiny. I remember her being on Mike Douglas talking about how big her boobs are in the 1970’s.
Hey Sebs,Dolly surely is the queen! If this song's message hit hard, please check out a song by the incomparable Chris Stapleton called Either Way...A similiar message that makes you feel it...
You need to react to the ultimate version of Wind Beneath My Wings. I mean the hit single by Gary Morris who did it before Bette Midler. I have a friend who hates country music and I recommended she listen to Gary. After she did she came back next time we met and said "THAT is how that song should be sung!" I could never appreciate Bette's version because I heard Gary's hit first. By comparison, Bette sounded....... sorry but I can't think how to describe her performance except "hammy" or "brassy." The version by Gary Morris is lyrical and honest sounding by comparison. He played in 'Les Miz' and was chosen from all the singers who had sung "Bring Him Home" to perform that number on the cast album. Opera singers became fans of his. He also did a killer version of "Love Hurts" by the Everly Brothers.
You should react to canadian railroad trilogy. It speaks to Canada's great endeavure to build a railroad across the country. As well as the hard work and dangers the workers faced. Inspiring peice
Dolly is a queen, Loretta is a queen, Tammy is a queen, and Reba is a queen. The are all country royalty!
TRUE
Can't forget Kitty Wells and Patsy Cline
6 decades in the music business. 40 years as owner of her own theme park, DollyWood. Grammy, Emmy, Golden globe winner, and Tony nominated. The most awarded country artist. The list goes on and on. Dolly IS the Queen of Country. No one will ever fill her very high shoes. #GOAT
Also Academy Award (Oscars) nominated twice (remember "9 to 5 "and "Transamerica")...No doubt she is THE GOAT!!!

Sebastian is a wonderful husband to my daughter, Ali. She is so blessed
Beautiful
good deal

My mother loved Dolly. We played “Coat of Many Colors” at her service when she passed.❤ That’s a song you should listen to
I already knew the ending of the story while you were talking about the devotion and acceptance of duty. Knew your jaw was fixin' to drop with the end. 😦
Country music is 3 chords and the truth, and Dolly is one of the best truth tellers in her songs.
Got goosebumps even before Dolly started singing. 😮 She is definitely the Queen of country.

Dolly sure wasn't writing this song about her daddy. She always talks and sings great songs about her daddy. Good country songs tell a story.

Lucky me.
Mom 94, Dad 97

Wow incredible!!
Only have to go 30 more years to catch up. Congrats to the couple
Never take another day for granted. Be patient and always take their call. I never dreamed there would come a day I would struggle trying to remember the sound of their voice. WOW - fantastic - unheard of
How wonderful. I hope we make it that long. At 69 I am already having my 50th so you never know. My husband is three years older than me, same as your parents.
I was born, raised and live in east Tennessee. Dolly has always been a part of my life. Tennessee loves Dolly
You seem like a wonderful husband and father. You are so kind to her and loving.
I love her coat of many colors
Yes, one of her best! Emmylou's version is my favorite.
Dolly Parton is without question the Queen of Country Music, and in all aspects of her life and heart,
Dolly is a National Treasure.
Sebs Duran your music reaction and song discussions are fabulous, more so when your wife joins.
Dolly is one of the best female country music singer 👍👍👍 Love her ❤️💗❤️💗❤️💗
Dolly, Emmylou, and Linda Ronstadt were friends decades ago. They finally were able to record an album together, which went platinum and won a Grammy award. The harmonies are divine. Take a listen!
Dolly has always been pure class.
I love love love Dolly’s voice and her personality
Dolly is a true country icon and I have loved her music my entire life I am 45 so it has been a spell. All of her songs tell stories and they are so beautiful
Dolly is definitely the Queen of Country, Pop, inducted into the Rock n Roll Hall of Fame
Dolly Parton has lived the life she writes and sings about. You may have heard about the free book program she provides to children ages one through five years of age to help them learn to love to read.
I love her book program it really helped getting my children interested in reading when they were small.
EmmyLou Harris sings this song so incredibly beautiful. I cry every time I hear it
Dolly Parton Quote...... “Find out who you are and do it on purpose.”-Dolly Parton
A song about a mother leaving her family was groundbreaking for Country, just like Loretta Lynn's 'The Pill,' about female birth control. I believe Loretta was the first Queen of Country, but I can't see giving Dolly any lesser title.
Dolly has written thousands of songs, two of her more recent that I think you might appreciate are World on Fire and Don’t Make Me Come Down There.
Alison Krauss was Dolly's back-up/harmony singer for so long because their voices are so similar. Her solo career has been very successful and I do believe Dolly supports that.
You need to check out the songs she did with Linda Ronstadt and Emmy Lou Harris under the supergroup name of Trio.
"Those Memories", and "Silver Threads and Golden Needles"
YES YES YES they sound divine
❤
Those Memories is my favorite song on that album.
Dolly Parton is a true American treasure!

"Giving her wings to fly". 'Nuf said. Thank You.
Hi, Seb! Thank You for being you! Sending Love and Prayers to you and your beautiful family!🫶❤️
Dolly has written close to 3000 songs in her career!
"Kentucky Gambler" from Merle is one.
YOU DO PRETTY GOOD JOB, SEB!!!!!! YOU ALWAYS LEARN ABOUT LIFE WITH COUNTRY MUSIC!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Dolly is queen now. Loretta was queen while she lived and before her was patsy cline and kitty wells.

Dolly has a flamboyant persona but she is a jewel.
As for "Bringing your wife her wings and let her fly ... " I can wholeheartedly recommend "Eagle when she flies" from the same wonderful Queen of country, miss Dolly.
one of Dolly's early song, is Me and little Andy. you should hear. she is a great story teller.📖
Dolly, REba, Loretta, Emy Lou, Tanya, The list goes on.on. on.
YOU have a great heart! So the song awakened your emotions and touched you in a very strong way! That’s actually beautiful! Especially nowadays when so many people have become so cold-hearted, detached, and almost stoic!
Dolly is one of the greatest song writers in country music… SHE wrote I Will Always Love You that Whitney Houston recorded. Love Dolly…. ❤❤❤
I love love love Dolly. She is a real.lady.. She is Dolly and she can sing.!!!!
Tammy was the First Lady, Loretta was the Queen.. Reba.. another level.. Dolly is our National Treasure..
Exactly 😊
My wife’s grandmother left her grandfather after 31 years, just leaving a note that said “gone”. Very relatable.

Dolly is such an icon that never be replaced. She in her 70s has just put a Rock and Roll Hall of fame. She really is a blessing
If you haven't heard her new rock album it's actually pretty good. I listened to her version of Purple Rain with trepidation but it wound up being really good. check it out

Her cover of Roy Obison's "Blue Bayou" is outstanding. Hey look up Roy Obison' s Pretty Woman.
Dolly is amazing. One fact did you know she has a wig for every day of the year.
When asked how many wigs she owns, Dolly mentioned she wears one every day, so she must have at least 365.
What a tearjerker.
Dolly is a powerhouse writer. You need to check out the list of all that she has written. Many country stars owe her for some of their best hits.
Dear Seb. That is not your " weakness " that is your " strength "
Both of my parents grew up in the same town Dolly grew up in, until they moved up North to find work.
I loved the song. And I didn't know Dolly wrote the song for Emily. They both performed it so well.
What separates Dolly from many of the other top female country artists is that she writes so much of her own material.
The voice of an Angel!
Dolly👸🏼❤
In fact mom and Dolly were in same school in TN
Dolly has written many songs with a surprise ending: Down from Dover (1970), The Bridge, and many others. One other song you must hear is Traveling Man.
I'm loving your reactions and comments to Dolly Parton (To Daddy)😢❤
she is a one and only for stories honestly told from her true country heart...check her out she has written THOUSANDS of songs for herself and others and she keeps going on...where she gets all ideas if fascinating...
Two iconic songs of hers, 9 to 5 and Coat of Many Colors.

Did anyone notice one of her backup singer is Linda Ronstadt. Wow! Emmy Lou, Linda R and Dolly did an albums together.
I think that's Suzanne Cox
Suzanne Cox and Allyson Krauss(spelling?)are the backup singers in this video..... Dolly says at the beginning.
Dolly has literally written thousands of songs. I'd recommend most of what I've heard her sing, with one exception. She did a song titled "Me And Little Andy". Listen to Dolly's performance of "He's Alive."
I love and appreciate Dolly's stories. They are rich in love❤
She is absolutely the Queen, She has written so many songs for over 6 decades. You can go an a huge deep dive of her music. I know some people don't like it, but her new album Rockstar, is pretty awesome.
