But you are still holding up hope that you could somehow salvage the date, at least have the both of you going home on good terms and hopefully never see each other again. The conversation has come to a standstill, you run out of things to say to him. You learned quickly that politics are not something both of you can agree on, and he speaks so fast that you soon find listening to him is beyond taxing. Just then, the background music of the restaurant fades out, and the opening chords of John Lennon's Imagine rang out through the restaurant. You grin broadly, "Oh isnt this song nice?" you say to Ben. "Nice!?" you froze seeing the look of disbelief and rage on his face. "Imagine by John Lennon is a monstrosity, a moral musical monstrosity!" he screams out. People in the restaurant are looking at the two of you now, you feel your face getting hot with embarrassment. "Its-its-its a cavetroll! Against all that is good and holy!" You give a futile, apologetic smile to all the patrons and workers in the restaurant, hoping he could just shut up. "For me to call you a great musician we have to know how to read music," he continued, in a tone that is too loud for a fancy restaurant. You sat quietly, staring at him as he continues rage ranting. Realising he's not going to stop any time soon, you grab your purse and leave. Leaving him seated alone at the table, ranting at your receding figure about the evil of liberalism. Two weeks later you receive a text from Ben. He asks you to send him pictures of your feet. You block his number.

That's silly. Bing-o can't be his name, there is an established naming convention that has existed for [an indeterminate period of time] that thoroughly solves the problem of assigning individual identity. This is why the cultural Marxists are so dangerous, they want to destroy Western culture for their own political aims, just as Marx intended. Did I get it right?
So Ben thinks that John Lennon’s Imagine is “childish” but apparently doesn’t realize just how easily that word could also be used to describe his response to this song.
ben shapiro is so unlikeable that he dares you to like him, even if to do so out of contrarianism. it's almost redundant to dislike him, it's the default state of humanity. the people who like him willingly choose to do so against their very nature. it's more about their hatred of 'liberals' than anything else. the man himself, however, is a vessel full of anti-charisma.
News report later: "Recent studies have shown that suicide rates have skyrocketed. Is depression to blame, or the influx of people imagining they are Ben Shapiro? More on this at 11."
@False Feathers Depends mate, If all you're playing is pop music, learning sheet music is a waste of your time if you're playing IDK the guitar or something. Very few musicians actually rely on sheets, and actually use tablature (tabs). If you're some in some Emo band, why would you waste time learning to sightread. Also 90% of good EDM artists (which represent 70+% of modern music) don't know how to read sheet music and they produce music just fine.
I came out of this video thinking the exact same thing. Ben Shapiro is a sad, pathetic man who hates himself and can only feel anything when someone he thinks is beneath him is hurt. Why else would he argue with children professionally
I'm late but if this song is the worst thing ever according to him, then, scientifically speaking he must, hypothetically, like furry vore art over it, since, as we have already established, he thinks the song is the worst thing ever to have been creating which then, in turn, puts the furry art over the quality of the song. According to his wife, who is a doctor, vore is impossible but feelings dont care about your facts 😩‼‼

@SusieR I loved the Andrew Neil interview. Really showed how much of a hack he is to call Andrew Neil (a guy who denies climate change and supported the Iraq war) a democrat. And yet Ben's fanbase will never learn. And with your point about Brexit, I was 17 at the time of the vote and knew people who voted leave for a laugh. My boyfriend's entire family are Tory Brexiteers and they can never properly justify their position. They live in Birmingham and they were also effected by the IRA bombings and they're quite prejudiced against Irish and brown people. I'm from Iraq and they always use that fact to try and call me antisemitic for being having empathy for Palestinians driven out of their homes. Iraqis and Palestinians alike have had their fair share of grievances against the west. And Brits can't fathom that illegal wars that kill majority citizens will breed terrorists. But I feel like the tories in Britain are more prominent here because of how subtle the racism and xenophobia is here. Where as America can smell the racism from a mile away. Do you still live in the UK btw?
@SusieR I empathise with your perspective, I've lived in England for more than half of my life and am a British citizen. But I don't feel pride alongside the majority of this country. Any complaint I have against Britain is suddenly unpatriotic and typical of a migrant to bash Britain. I'm so grateful for Britain's opportunities and freedom that I am given. However to critique your own nation is the height of patriotism. My boyfriend's mum seems to think that Britain had no part in what went down in Iraq, and that museums weren't plundered of ancient artifacts or little girls assaulted and murdered by soldiers. That's the popular mindset of excusing colonialism here in England. They never acknowledge the terrible crap that Churchill was responsible for, and I've never seen it written in history books. But I always say, 'Having the inability to judge leaders by their actions, or acknowledge grievances of their past means wilful ignorance. Wilful ignorance and blind patriotism inevitably leads to fascism'
My dad is a pianist and Beatles fan and painted the written notes of Imagine on the walls of my childhood bedroom. I grew up literally surrounded by a beautiful depiction of hoping for a better world. Listening to this song still sends shivers down my spine, or straight up makes me cry. Recently I've been considering the questions John asks of us in his master work, and I would say it has played no small part in the formation of my political identity. When I was talking to my dad a few weeks ago about some of these ideas for the first time, he was visibly disgusted with me suggesting a world with workplace democracy. It was at first so confusing to me that he is such a stubborn conservative, but yet loved Imagine so much he took days to painstakingly paint it on the walls of his first son. But as I've thought about it, it's not exactly that he is hypocritical (though he is wrong in my view), but it speaks miles to how powerful the universal message of Imagine is. If someone like my dad can be so inspired, maybe there is still hope for a better world. I just wanted to share and I love your video on this LonerBox
That's such an interesting point, I've met many conservatives who LOVE certain pieces of art such as a song that have very clear left-wing ideological undertones, like peace and equality, and they love it specifically because of the message. It's so weird, even when you explain that to them they don't believe it.
@@superdrwholock I think one of the reason is because most people don't really understand their political position, especially when they didn't actively choose to have a certain agenda, rather they take what school, tv, or facebook fake news tells them to believe in a very capitalist/right-leaning society.
Your dad isn't wrong. He sounds like he was ideological just like John Lennon. Imagine is a beautiful song, but the reality is it is anti-human nature. The only thing keeping human beings from tearing each other apart like chimps is structure, borders, rules, and yes, religion. As Penn Jillette said "As an atheist, I have raped and killed exactly as many people as I want to. That number happens to be zero." Ben's numbers are obviously well above zero.
I think the most hilarious part, genuinely, is when he says "there has never and will never be a brotherhood of man" and, as if John Lennon is responding from the grave, the song says "you may say I'm a dreamer, but I'm not the only one"

When I hear Shapiro's argument, I'm disgusted. He literally misses the entire point of the song, he looks at it through a funnel and doesn't see the entire picture. He comments that the things Lennon suggests is not possible when Lennon LITERALLY is asking you to IMAGINE it. Ben Shapiro is closed minded and just seems to see what he wants to see. He wants to have the moral high ground, he wants to be above people. Yet he is the one criticising Lennon's best work on the anniversary of his murder. It's pathetic, really.

There is no way someone can “imagine all the people”. There are 7 billion people in the world right now, okay? 7 billion. It is completely improbable for someone to have met every single person in the world. For the sake of argument, let’s say that you meet 100,000 people over the course of your life. This is still a fraction of the amount of people you’d have to meet in order to “imagine all the people”.
Did you just take that phrase seriously? By that logic, I can imagine you imagine 7 billion people. How can you prove that it's possible? You can't because it just imagining. Relax xD
You have to say though, Ben Shapiro has taken the art of deliberately not getting the point and deliberately misreading a text to new levels. There is no way this guy doesn't know that in a line like "imagine people living for today" the word day is meant metaphorically and has an incredibly deep meaning. I can't believe that people actually like to see this guy do this thing, because it's so obvious what he's doing. "A brotherhood of Man, that has never existed and never will." Leaving aside the weighty question of "never will" for the moment, what on earth would be the point of the song if it already existed or used to exist? I don’t like how people always make hedonism out to just people screwing and killing with no regard for the future. Hedonism and future planning are compatible. Hedonism just mean your main goal in life is feeling good so like you could screw and you could volunteer for a foodshare to get a good feeling that you helped people.
Brinks246 Hedonism is actually a really logical way of living when you think about it, and yeah it's perfectly reasonable to be a hedonist and be "moral".
@@veggiedragon1000 It has such a huge philosophical backing, actually. Stemming from the whole 'I think therefore I am' A.K.A. In fact, even in a decidedly less than hedonistic way, 'One must imagine Sisyphus is happy'. He's constantly struggling, but he has a purpose and therefore is fulfilled. Hedonists want the same kind of fulfillment but without the restrictions Sisyphus (and other people going through the 'ordinary' cogs of life) put on themselves.

I think the problem that Shapiro has with "living for today" is that **Shapiro's world** would break down if there weren't dozens of artificial constraints that are so obviously placed all around him by his tight-wound, overbearing cultural constructs. This is actually the biggest takedown of Ben Shapiro I've ever seen. Especially the part starting at 14:30. We all know it internally, and I think he does too. *POV:* You are forced to be on a blind date with Ben Shapiro. The date is going badly, really badly.
Against all that is good and holy!"
You give a futile, apologetic smile to all the patrons and workers in the restaurant, hoping he could just shut up.

Not necessarily, but it doesn't matter because you'll continue to say otherwise just to suit what you want. There is tons of research put into IQ testing, it's based off neuroscience, for example they identify the only systems that allow for higher cognition and create tests that are proven to reflect the efficiency of those systems, tends to be built upon spatial or verbal working memory. They also take into account performance factors as much as possible. Some are not so validated, that's why i said not necessarily.
However, there are some bull shit subtests thrown in, subtests that reflect more sensory skills than intellect, like the processing speed-scanning for something. They add those in to eliminate male advantages in IQ, as women do better at that on average and increase the value of those low level subtests.
But your performance on the proper subtests are revealed separately so it doesn't matter.

Nah but- it's bad bro. Because- because it's communism >:(
That's such an interesting point, I've met many conservatives who LOVE certain pieces of art such as a song that have very clear left-wing ideological undertones, like peace and equality, and they love it specifically because of the message.
@@AnUnbotheredQueen Oh yeah that makes sense
Your dad isn't wrong. He sounds like he was ideological just like John Lennon. Imagine is a beautiful song, but the reality is it is anti-human nature. The only thing keeping human beings from tearing each other apart like chimps is structure, borders, rules, and yes, religion. Lennon beat the shit out of his wife and abused his son tho. Not defending Shapiro just saying Lennon wasnt exactly a saint.
“it’s like a nursery rhyme for communism”
There is no way someone can “imagine all the people”. There are 7 billion people in the world right now, okay? 7 billion. It is completely improbable for someone to have met every single person in the world. For the sake of argument, let’s say that you meet 100,000 people over the course of your life. This is still a fraction of the amount of people you’d have to meet in order to “imagine all the people”.
Did you just take that phrase seriously? By that logic, I can imagine you imagine 7 billion people. How can you prove that it's possible? You can't because it just imagining. Relax xD
@@Kraken_TL no..... its a joke

@@robberonbrent You've owned me with facts and logic!
What the fuck would he think of death metal lmao
You have to say though, Ben Shapiro has taken the art of deliberately not getting the point and deliberately misreading a text to new levels. There is no way this guy doesn't know that in a line like "imagine people living for today" the word day is meant metaphorically and has an incredibly deep meaning. I can't believe that people actually like to see this guy do this thing, because it's so obvious what he's doing. He's being smug over being better than other people by deliberately not engaging with them. You see it everywhere he goes. To him, it's all a big ego-trip to make himself feel better, and I honestly don't understand why his fans like this.
They like it because it drives people like us crazy.
@@sottosopravoce True, and it keeps us on the defensive. I mean, I like well thought-through video-essays about how the right are wrong, but there is very little anarchist imagination on youtube or elsewhere, for example. There's also a dearth of videos about positive projects, be they consciously left or not, built on mutual aid.
I'm fairly confident it is the smugness that they like. It not only makes himself feel better, it makes his fans feel better.
The fans likely see themselves in him. They like being superior, but can't face those who know any more than them

Small correction: Plato despised democracy. He considered that it was corrupt and led to tiranny (Socrates was unjustly tried and executed under a democracy). The system he proposed was a type of intelectual aristocracy.
He probably hates Ode to Joy. You know, that alle menchen werden bruder crap.
The text gets even "worse" in parts:
"Unser Schuldbuch sei vernichtet!
ausgesöhnt die ganze Welt!"
(Our debt destroyed! The whole world in peace!)
Or
"Groll und Rache sei vergessen,
unserm Todfeind sei verziehn."

Wait.... I knew about this video from tons of other videos but I never saw the part where Ben said he was making the video because it was the anniversary of John Lennons assassination. Literally how inappropriate and just overall disgusting can you get?
I feel like I need to say that this video is almost poetic, Very good job, one of the most well made things I've seen on UA-cam. Truly an excellent take.
"A brotherhood of Man, that has never existed and never will."
Leaving aside the weighty question of "never will" for the moment, what on earth would be the point of the song if it already existed or used to exist? Hey everyone, imagine this thing we already have! Imagine this thing we had in the sixteenth century! How dull do you have to be to think that something that's acknowledged IN THE TITLE OF THE SONG can count as a criticism??

'I can disprove just about everything except for what I feel at this moment', it's only reasonable that you'd want to seek fulfillment.
Kodoku Pierrot Now that just reminds me of that philosopher who used Sisyphus as a metaphor for accepting the Absurd and being fulfilled with your life, and I cannot recall his name! Philosophy Tube had an old video on it...
I think the problem that Shapiro has with "living for today" is that **Shapiro's world** would break down if there weren't dozens of artificial constraints that are so obviously placed all around him by his tight-wound, overbearing cultural constructs. The world wouldn't break down, Shapiro's idea of Shapiro would break down.

Also this is absolutely hilarious with the context that Shapiro is actually knowledgeable in music. Seeing free spirited people inspiring others really gets under his skin haha
i love the poetic justice of hearing Ben Shapiro say the words "This is so childish" while John Lennon softly sings, "You may say I'm a dreamer, but I'm not the only one...". that sweet acknowledgment of almost naivety that Ben believes he is the first to call out. It's there, and it's beautiful. It's what good things are made of. Sad that Ben can't see it, too.
OMG YEAH. That moment gen made me apreciate Imagine way more.
imagine was one of the best thing that Lennon gave to the world. honestly shaprio bores me as a political debater because all of his criticisms are so surface level and purposefully misconstruing information that its just sad especially because if he really wanted to go at lennon's integrity he could have just used the facts. except then i guess he would have to have a problem with the shitty things Lennon has actually done so moot point i suppose. still, not like he cares about sounding like a hypocrite.

This is actually the biggest takedown of Ben Shapiro I've ever seen. Especially the part starting at 14:30. We all know it internally, and I think he does too. He fights a pointless war against progress of humankind, knowing full well he'll lose. But he lost already a long time ago, ever since he decided he couldn't change himself from his hatred.

(communism as such is an anachronism, but i think it could be argued that he *would* be a commie and an anarcho-pacifist in modern terms)
Jesus was definitely a Social Justice kind of a guy. "Naked did I clothe you. Homeless did I shelter you, etc." Does Shapiro ever offer solutions to the people who are hurting the most?

“It is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for the bourgeoisie to enter the kingdom of heaven”

@@comradeelmo5739 so was jesus, and since most of his audience is supposedly christian, they should find shapiro's ideas repugnant. (not because he is jewish but because his ideas are actively against jesus' ideas) for some reason they reject jesus' ideas and accept shapiro's ideas

I find it really improbable, given his age, disdain for women and minorities, status as a nerd who is worshiped by nerds, and famous use of the word "epic," that Ben Shapiro is not at least a casual gamer, but I have trouble figuring out what he plays. I feel like he'd like the politics of CoD, but would find the community too annoying. MOBAs require too much teamwork, most Nintendo games would be too childish and kind. Maybe Grand Strategy games? He'd definitely be into Crusader Kings. Either that or Minecraft.
Ben definitely doesn’t play a Paradox game because I’m sure he’d have talked about the Deus Vult controversy at this point.
I think Ben plays Payday.
Not all shit eaters are gamers.
He won’t play Crusader Kings because you can be a gay woman, and that’s political 🤢🤮
