@M. Smith He did. He gave questions challenging Shapiro and his beliefs, that's what journalists are supposed to do. This was a news interview, not a daytime talk show interview. It's not Neil's fault that Shapiro didn't just answer the question, and instead decided to attack the question and the questioner. Really, that shows how Shapiro isn't really all that good at debating too, he can't focus on the topic, and instead seeks to discredit the opponent and invalidate the question rather than address it with real facts or logic.
@M. Smith Otvali, tovarisch - all Andrew did was, y'know, ask it to explain and justify some of the things it has said in the past, and COULD it? No, it COULDN'T - in fact, it, essentially, called a man who once said that, as HIV wasn't really a problem for straight men, it wasn't really a problem AT ALL and who USED TO WORK FOR RUPERT MURDOCH a LEFTIST. Are you REALLY this stupid, or are you just pretending? Just asking...
@M. Smith Also, most people who aren't Muscovite trolls tend to have at least SOME content on their UA-cam pages - nice try, tovarisch, but that was a bit of a schoolboy error...
Imagine being led to believe this was an interview at all, rather than an opportunity to attack you, simply for not sharing the same values as the biased media.
That was not political discourse, that was a slew of leading questions and quotes taken out of context. I have serious doubts about your intellectual capacity if you think Shapiro “lost”
@@jlondono7 I think the thing is that, there is no one lost. The purpose of the interview is just one person asking questions and the other answers, so that people can know more about the topic, which can a person, a book, or an opinion. This is the purpose of the whole thing. There is no back and forth interaction, it's supposed to be only one way. The only thing Ben "lost" to was not the debate, he didn't lose to the debate or argument, cuz there was none. But he lost calm and lost the interview. Tbh, the one being attacked here is not Ben, it was the BBC interviewer the whole time. About questions taken out of context, these are perfect opportunity for interviewees to fill in the context and extend that context to resonate with audience. Elsewhere on the internet, people will literally encounter and read these quotes out of context in everyday life (because they are too lazy to do more research), and Ben would have no chance to explain it. But here Ben was given this very channel to show it. But first he had to take it as a debate, and then had to take it personally. If your opinions can't be confronted by an interview that you lose temper to, idk how i feel about that. Edit adds: In summary, he is not good at this interview thing and he lost calm.
@Adrian Heath I have actually already seen a few of these window-licking morons attempting to defend Daft Benny's, piss-poor, performance. And it's absolutely HILARIOUS to watch, wasn't it?

He was provided a hypothetical and had a complete meltdown, then got mad because he wasn't allowed to monologue off his pre written talking points. @@airinhewram8478 asking regular questions instead of softball questions doesn't make the interview an interrogation. Literally everything he asked was a valid and reasonable question. Unfortunately, a highly polarising approach in journalism has become a hallmark of US reporting and that is simply untrue in many other news outlets across the globe. When this notoriously right wing conservative reporter is inquiring an OPPOSING VIEW to Ben’s narrative, he allows Ben to showcase his beliefs as juxtaposed against contradiction, which is excellent journalism. Instead of calmly explaining his views and addressing reasonable opposition he chose to be emotional and take the questions as a personal attack. Isn’t Ben the one who said that “facts don’t care about your feelings” and yet he treated an interview as a debate.

Suggesting women should face imprisonment for getting and abortion is at best backwards, at worst stone age mentality. Human rights are not a matter of opinion.
@@ejl1000'Human rights' as of 5 minutes ago. Abortion has been illegal for most of human history across societies. Unfortunately, this even meant punishment for late term miscarriages - though exceedingly rare as they are. Maybe you can find exceptions to this rule, but it's a rule. Only very recently have we had the abortion pill, for example; risky cocktails were the choice before, and were generally illegal before the mid-20th century. It is a disservice to the wisdom of our ancestors to offhandedly disclaim them as ignoring 'human rights.' I would argue abortion is not a human right; and this is not a settled matter. Human rights, as we think of them in the West, come from God. This is from Voltaire, Locke, etc. So to use that argument in a secular way is ironic, to say the least. Medical abortion is a relatively new concept and the discourse on its humanity continues. Frankly, the science is clear: the DNA is unique to the 'fetus', and more and more we have better imaging and proof of life at very early stages of development, where historically we had to rely on when the baby could be felt kicking (known as "quickening.") And you know, many historical state laws used quickening as the benchmark for life, so the ways of some states today to allow elective abortions at any stage of life would be considered barbaric to them.

The "you're either with us or against us" mentality is deeply rooted into American culture. Left vs right, north vs south, republican vs democrat, capitalism vs communism, why can't they just find a middle ground?
This is one of my favourite US politics-focused interviews in the last 10 years. Andrew Neil completely exposes the growing anger and "coarsening of public discourse" through an interviewee slowly becoming aware of himself and getting unreasonably angry in the process.
The anger in politics has grown from leftists. The right is responding. They’ve gone after freedoms and claim the right are fascists. They spend money like it’s going out of style and cause terrible inflation. They let serious criminals out on bond who kill someone’s loved one. They use race as a point of division to score points and gain votes. They make back alley deals with foreign governments for money. They built this anger.
@@AntonioLopez-bc6qg It's a sarcastic/British way of pointing out that anger is very much a part of American political discourse. I.E. Ben Shapiro embarrassed himself by losing his cool during a perfectly reasonable interview. (By British standards at least)..
It means that Ben Shapiro's credibility is questionable. He can't accept criticism. He rataliates with insults if trapped with a question which he can't answer sensibly eventually making him irrelevant in mainstream American political discourse.

To be honest, I've never seen Andrew Neil fail an interview Left or Right. Ben Shapiro spat the dummy. I agree with him on very little (especially free speech) but Neil caught him imo.
Neil is right of center in the UK, because the UK is much more left politically than the US. Which, follow me now, would make him left of center in the US. As seen by his blatant politically leanings (to the left) in his questions.

B Bailey You think so, because I think this shock value interview is going to boost Ben Shapiro in Europe a lot more, even if Neil was hilariously trolling Ben.
B Bailey the bbc did not “win” here. The basis for any argument that Shapiro was schooled/owned/etc. here is that the interviewer wouldn’t answer any of Ben’s questions, defaulted to the predictable mantle of “I’m the interviewer, you’re the guest; I ask the questions, you answer them,” allowing for the “plausible deniability” that since the interviewer wouldn’t attest to any bias, that perhaps he isn’t biased and is just doing his job, and that the interviewer got under Ben’s skin. “I’m the interviewer, you’re the guest” is fine when it’s a straightforward interview, not when it’s one that includes politically biased questions, such as “the dark ages of the republican platform” or the “popularity of a $15/hr minimum wage” or “the left are the only ones with new ideas” or plenty of other biased, false premises. Then it becomes a political debate. But the interviewer wanted to present these biases AND have Shapiro follow the protocols of a straightforward interview. That’s not an argument, it doesn’t work that way, and that’s why Shapiro was pissed off
It highlights either one of two things, both equally concerning: 1. Ben Shapiro, the leading figure and voice in recent conservatism, UCLA PolySci and Harvard Law graduate is that politically illiterate and dumb that he considers Andrew Neil a leftist. 2. And Andrew roasted him back in the same manner😂 This is what happens when trying to interview someone from the same side of the political spectrum but using the opposite point of view so the person being interviewed can justify their beliefs. It’s a serious problem in the US by both the left and right unlike the UK where we are generally prepared for those sorta interviews

I think this shows the difference between US and UK interview bias. When Neil challenges him, Shapiro assumes he's from the left. In the UK Neil is considered to be right of centre. No interviewer worth his or her name should 'go soft' on anyone, even if they hold the same opinion.
But Sean, Neil was challenging Shapiro because it's his job to do so. If he's being challenged, he should defend his position without making childish assertions about the interviewer's political bias.
