Must we now refer to you as "New York Times writer Finn Mckenty?"
Already am doofus.
What is scary is that I remember buying All killer no filler CD in 2001 from a local record shop. Feels a world away now from them being 27 years old as a band. Mental. But love them. I love my behemoth and knocked loose and spiritbox and Whitechapel and thy art is murder, but Sum41 are a sick band and will always love them.
The most shocking thing is NYT quoted Finn accurately and in context.
The failing New York Times making NOT fake news about Sum 41? SAD!
No seriously, this is sad news.
American flag as your head shot and bashes New York Times? That checks out.
NYT has a better reputation than pretty much every American news outlet....
@@IWearShaqsmuh new york times
@@IWearShaqs that’s like saying this pile of crap smells a little bit better than that pile of crap, if you’re getting your information from the American media, you need to wake up it’s 2023
All Killer No Filler, Does This Look Infected? and Chuck... Man, those albums had such an impact on me growing up. I just recently jumped back into their discography and absolutely loved their newer album Order In Decline. Stellar musicians and pop punk icons. Sad to see them disband, but what a legacy they leave behind! 👏👏
Huge part of my childhood. I still have their music videos in bedded into my brain. Especially the ones form Does This Look Infected.
Me and my friends loved sum 41, we all loved them more than blink, and thought of them as the true pop punk kings.
You said it, those exact three albums were huge.
@@mitchelllion6052 I never really got why they weren’t bigger than blink. Feel like they have a much stronger discography overall. Love blink too though
The Sum 41 "Discography".....LOL! "Discography".....LOL!
I almost got kicked out of a Metal group on Facebook for posting a Sum 41 song.
I was giving props to Sum 41 for introducing Pop-Punk kids to Metal sounds.
The idiots in the group didn't even listen to the song to realize how Metal Sum 41 could be!
I'd gladly be a Metal Martyr for the glory of Sum 41!
It do be like that with most Facebook metal groups, unless it's Breakdowns and Brees
This is why I don’t like getting into metal groups. There’s too many gatekeepers and elitists.
a lot of people cant grasp music theory… like a few months ago i just realized modern day EDM is like late 90s to mid 2000s pop punk with power chords. took me a few pop punk covers to realize it and i really started to enjoy this genre more after i noticed.
@@Chad_Aucoin ya everything in evolves even in music.
Sum 41 was my dad's favorite band. Now seeing this video of Finn reacting to Sum 41's breakup just reminds me of the great times we used to have. I miss him so much. But, he had to go and die in that freak gasoline fight accident. RIP In piece DAD.
Fly high, papa
@@FinnMckentyPRMBA You officially reached "old hit music video"-status now by having a memorial comment.
"Sum 41 was my dad's favorite band." Crazy to read this, it's shocking how time flies. RIP to your father!
@@diegosccp1969wow.
Your dad had good taste. RIP
“Does This Look Infected” is my fav album from them. They’re like the metal version of pop-punk and have killer riffs with sick solos. A solid band with great songs, I’m definitely gonna be there on their farewell tour 🤘🔥
I'll assume you've also heard Chuck, which boots plenty of tush itself
Yeah this sucks. My good friends bonded over this... they are all gone now and I'm the only one left. It will always remind me of good times. Thanks SUM 41 ❤...
I'm going to miss these guys. They did for Pop punk what DRI did for hardcore and I thank them for that. They were by far the best of the early 2000's Pop punk bands imo. Respect!
Sum 41 of all my favorite bands definitely has the least bad "worst album" by a mile. Mad respect.
One of the most consistent bands
Sum 41 is from my hometown, grew up in the same neighbourhoods as the guys, they’ve been a huge part of my life and they mean everything to me. I really hope they do one final hometown show so we can say our proper goodbyes and I can see them one last time
bullshit
Ajax represent!!
@@chams5214 yessir🤘🏻
Did they spray you in a super soaker drive by?
I was Born in Ajax
I'm not sad, I just respect their move. They were a special band and possibly the best musicians among the pop punk tier of bands. Respect, end on a high note!
I went to that Simple Plan/ Sum 41 tour as well and had a great time. They both sounded great, and the crowd was super into it.
Sum 41 were singing about hanging out drinking in the back of El Camino and now after 27 years it is time to ride El Camino into the sunset. Rock on Sum 41. 🫡🤘
I think they are doing this right. A final, double album, part early Sum 41 and part late Sum 41. This is all I could ask for. I really hope the early version is like All Killer.
True legends in every way. All Killer and Infected are classics. "Still Waiting" hugely influenced Black Parade for instance.
Gonna have to see them one last time. They're so good live. I'm glad they were able to come back together for one more good album, and then the last one that just kind of exists. Glad Deryck was able to survive his issues and keep playing.
Jo way! “ Does This Look Infected” was the favorite for sure!
One of my all time favourite bands. Got me through a lot of shit in high school. Back before iPods, I had a 125mb mp3 player that could fit about 12 songs downloaded from LimeWire. It was constantly rotated Sum 41 songs. They just had the best riffs out of all the pop punk bands. During all the covid lockdowns we had here in Aus, I learned a bunch of their songs on guitar and they're good fun. The perfect blend of melody from Deryck and metal from Dave. I'm happy they're going out on top and we still get the last double album. I've been getting right back into all the 2000s pop punk and emo stuff the last few years, especially with Matt Cutshall's Emo's Not Dead stuff coming out. I love it.
Fuck that hits hard. I was born in 1997 and ever since i ran into dinosaur tribute videos on youtube back in 2005ish Sum 41 has been and will always be my favorite band of all time. Im devastated i never got to see them play live, but still immeasurably grateful to them for all their music has given me & will continue to give me. Of all the bands that have influenced who i am today Sum 41 had the biggest effects, in particular the chuck album and the story behind it
Old youtube was so perfect!! (to me)
For real, try to hit up one of their last tour dates, they put on a fun show and sound killer live. As long as your closest date isn't sold out, make the leap go see them.
One of the greatest Pop Punk bands ever.I love all their albums.Legends for a reason.
You must not be from America
@@itman190 huh
RIP sums, loved watching your videos and listening to your albums during my childhood and early teen years, and then revisiting later for some much needed nostalgia.
Sven 😅 the Sums 😅
They had an amazing chatroom back in the day, I wasn't an epic fan of theirs, but their chatroom was so wholesome, had many active daily members (incl myself-diff username) and I remember it fondly. Big love to the band, the fans, and all of those that were awesome in their forum back in the day
they're my favorite band, this hit like a sledgehammer
Skumfuks 4 lyfe
@@bigmeat42069 yes indeed🤝🏻
Sum 41 is my second favorite pop punk band of all time, only behind Green Day. They are a top 5 punk band of all time as well as a top 10 band of all time! Their music is excellent! Their first 3 albums are fantastic!
sounds like the boys have reached that stage of their lives and honestly I'm happy for them.
My brother and a friend of ours were supposed to go see them in Dallas, probably ages 14-16, but my mom said she was scared of all of us getting Ebola and made us stay home. We ordered pizza and played Majora’s Mask instead. Thanks for the memories guys, gonna miss y’all.
This is awesome, I love it. This is a really mature, honest, and grounded way to end a long-time creative endeavor. They've put together a pretty comprehensive blueprint, which will see them kind of 'tie it up' over the next couple of years. Seriously, this is excellent, all creatives need to take note.
As someone who owned all killer no filler at 12 or 13 and now has infant anihilator on his spotify Playlist. You fuckin nailed it bud.
Stopping at the 5 min mark to let you know I really appreciate all the information and everything you bring to the table fin 🤙👊
“Underclass Hero” is one of the best pop punk songs of all time.
Hard agree with you on that one
Going out on top of their influence like true kings. “Last 27 years” aged me like that one scene in Saving Private Ryan. Also I’ll go toe to toe with anyone who calls this a cash grab. This is the opposite. Who knows if they’ll play shows past this farewell tour, but this is so far from a cash grab (fingers crossed tickets are reasonable).
Sum 41 is good road trip music. I used to play their stuff a lot traveling back and forth from Florida to North Carolina. Great video Finn. And Congrats on the NYT mention.
I regret not seeing them live more often. So many times I was about to but life got in the way. These last 2 tours are going to be something else. Hopefully their final tour includes some fests. Would love to see the energy they bring to that setting.
I like how they announced this. Tickets are still readily available for their summer stadium tour with Simple Plan and Offspring, it's a co-announcement of their final album, and will probably spend next year on their final tour.
All Killer and Infected were on constant rotation on my street growing up. We used to love skating to those records. All Killer is in my top ten favorites of all time. Great band. RIP
Really glad I got to see them last summer with simple plan. I was also born in 96 so the fact that I've never had a lifetime where this band wasn't around is crazy
Got to see them with my bf on The Blame Canada tour, glad to get to see them for the first and last time ❤️🤘🏽
So sad. One of my favourite bands growing up and still to this day. Thank you for all of the amazing music that were undoubtably a big part of my soundtrack. So happy I got to see them perform once in Brisbane and super stoked that I got to interview Cone on the Top 10 Sum 41 songs on my other UA-cam account - epic guy!
Perfectly made video Finn! Now I need to see them in the summer for my first/last time!
Love all the respect in the video. My cousin got to crowd surf at a Sum 41 concert
Being mostly a metal head, Sum 41 is prob my fav "pop punk" band, mostly because of the metal roots they absoluetly have in them. Blink being my 2nd fav. and Im old...51.
I will pay any amount for the inevitable VIP packages for that farewell tour.
They’re clearly the most consistent band of the era. All their albums are great, they never sold out, never went pop. Fantastic and underrated band who will hopefully get the credit they deserve soon
True. Even Blink sold out and became more pop and mainstream oriented - I remember really hating it when I Miss You came out and was played on every radio station all the time. It's safe to say that this never happened with Sum 41.
@@torstenscholz6243 What about pieces? Some say? With me? Sum 41 definitely had some poppy singles
nothing wrong with being a sold out if the music still kicks ass... idk
It's true. I went from Sum41 and pop-punk (and nu-metal), to death metal. Fell in love with Fat Lip, but Does This Look Infected is my favourite, looking back. Still Waiting was a heavier single than any of those other pop-punk bands ever released.
I was wondering if you would make a video on the announcement after I saw it on Twitter. I only got into Sum 41 recently because of your video on their history (and seeing them perform a cover of Faint with Mike Shinoda), but even I feel sad to see them go.
I'll always remember Sum 41 as a band that I skated to with my fellow middle class friends.
This is so sad, I feel lucky to have seen them last year at Ally Pally in London 🥺 Does This Look Infected is one of my favourite albums, never gets old. Grew up with their music being played
I saw them live last weekend and I gotta say I teared up at the end. Yelling thank you at them, I really meant it. It felt like closing a chapter.
Thank you for the upload today , Mr. McKenty.. making my morning awesome 👍😎
Did you just get the underground,,,, above ground?
I've been waiting for this video
sum is my favourite band and ive never got to see them live. praying they have a show in alberta
They have a solid legacy, and will live on in spirit for decades. I can deffo see a come back at sum point. Awesome you were quoted - nice1 !
No Killer no Filler is my go to summer album. Going out with a boat Listening to that album in the sun and have a cold beer and BBQ is god tier feeling
I love that you made this video, great job…..and your opinions matter! Your opinions are awesome actually. And RIP Sum 41…I will quit my job to see them on that farewell tour!
That Hell Song video always reminds me of the last day of school before Christmas break in 2003.
I love this, but a little confused as to how you skipped over "Does This Look Infected?" Which had Still Waiting and The Hell Song (the former being a fairly big hit, IMO) as some big singles. Chuck was fantastic, no doubt. But Infected deserves some love too.
They sound really good live and really know how to hype the crowd from start to finish so much that when their set is over you stand there thinking wtf is it allready over , i need more 🔥
Omg I saw them for the first time ever in Sydney last December and it was one of the best shows I've ever experienced! Crazy fun energy, excellent performers and musicians
I 100% agree with you on this not being a cash grab as you rightfully have said that nostalgia being at high levels right now this is thee reason I was surprised when they announced they where breaking up. The band has been one of the hardest working bands as the tours they do can last more than a year.
My favourite album is Does This Look Infected. And when I say favourite I mean it speaks to my soul. It activates something within me. I can't believe I never listened to it properly until 2019.
Finn You are the best and need to understand you are great. I watch only great people and you are amazing...
For me it’s either “in too deep” on the Malcom in the middle episode where Reese steals the car or “no reason” on NFL street 2
Sum 41 helped me through growing up and helped me get by and I am glad I got to see them last year twice in two days. And a bit of closure with a double album with pop punk and heavy stuff as well as a final tour.
I can relate to 30s kid being heart-broken about this lol. Found them as a teen and grew up with their songs. I liked them so much I even liked their later albums despite them going more metal. Every one of those has some stuff I really like and still listen to from time to time. Sad to see them quit but it's been hell of a journey and I'm glad it happened.
First band I ever saw. Only band I've travelled abroad to see (and twice), one of my all time favourite bands and favourite live acts. All respect to these talented muscians ♥
Deryck once appeared on The Jasta Show fairly recently, and from that I never would suspected they would break up eventually.

Ayeee it's me, I grew up with Sum 41 and they transitioned me into heavier music, now I'm a hardcore drummer in a band called
The World I See
I feel like youre mistaking chuck with Does this look infected? I remember that being the real big album by them. They had to turn down making "over my head" a single because they were burned out.
It shocking to hear at first but it make sense it's probably harder for them to be their mid to late 40s now still trying to carry on a band they created in their teens and 20s.
1:28 ooh a different hat 😁
Best ever food review show, hey sunny!!!
@Finn Mckenty We need to know more about the strange history of "From first to last"
Sum41 reminds me of driving home on a weekend pass from ft. Campbell in my 2001 grand am. Those were the days.
Glad i finally got to see them last year after bring a fan for over 20 years. They played only songs from the first two albums which was cool, but theres lots of other songs i wouldve liked to see live
Have you listened to "Ma poubelle", littrally "My trashcan", i don't know if it is bad, but it is something
Lmao, I saw on the chat-thread someone label Sum 41 as "Gateway Thrash" and I'd say that's 100% accurate for me! Sum 41 introduced me to Metal. I kept looking for "that sound" and then I found Metal and I've been a metalhead ever since. I love Sum 41, and I am thankful they led me to Metal.
I will miss this band, hope the bandmembers go on to great things.
"The sums" yo is that a reference to the still waiting music video?
Happy for them. They we’re blessed to get a second run after Deryck got sober and brownsound returned. They we’re successful. What more could they want? Congrats on a great career 🎉
I would think they're in too deep to quit.
Sad news, though and congrats on the NYT shoutout!
I’m gonna give you a fat lip for that one, pal
Sad to see them go, they have been going since the year of my birth. They are so much fun to see live, and genuinly put on a great show every time I've seen them. Hope the future holds nothing but good times for those boys.
Never got into them but I’m sorry to see them end it. Respect.
The good thing is they are still pretty damn young (most around the 42-43 area). I’m sure in 10 years they may consider a comeback, if only for a reunion tour
Does this look infected is my personal favorite! Hell Song is my favorite song of theirs. Ill miss them. Hope to see them in august!
When I saw them live in MN a few days ago, when Deryck brought up the break up, everyone started booing that and he responded with "your boos are heartwarming." That got me
Yeah, Does This Look Infected and Chuck are my favourite Sum 41 albums. For Blink, I love just Chesire Cat and Dude Ranch.
I wish them the best with all of their future endeavors. I'm going to go listen to some classics of theirs after this video. Congrats on the NYT quote Finn! Thanks for always sharing your information and perspectives 💯
Just saw them over the summer. Kinda sucks to think they won’t be touring their new album but I know it will be awesome
They will do one more tour for it.
They probably will come back at some point but I totally understand for needing a break they have so much energy on stage this band defined who I was in middle school and early high school some of the best times of my life is owed to Sum 41.... PS loved all the albums but Screaming Bloody Murder was my favorite.
My favorite band growing up along with guns n roses and motley crue. Got to see them open for crue when i was in middke school dream come true. Also all killer no filler was the first cd i bought with my own money, happened to also be released the same day as my birthday(not same year). May 8th so i listened to it this year too, same day they posted they where breaking up! I dont think that was intentional, maybe, it is crazy.
I love All Killer,No Filler but I honestly never listened to anything after that. Must check out the rest of their catalogue.
At first i was like ok guy, what do you know. Then i heard the pipeline, line. And thought OMG thats me. You got your self a fan here
i discovered sum 41 last november and fell in love with their second album instantly
Nothing but respect that the lads are going out on their own terms. I saw them while waiting for Pennywise to play at a festival years ago and they were great live.
This past month we saw Simple Plan, Sum 41 and The Offspring. Great show by ALL. When Sum 41 announced they were disbanding, the BOOS at Jones Beach was SOOO LOUD. That the band members couldnt help but smile and thank us for the best boos of their career.
Probably has to do with the singer staying healthy and staying on the wagon. And them being tired.
I believe (could be wrong so sorry if I am) that the Heaven X Hell is a double album. 1 being the more pop punk kind of thing their known for now and 1 being a more metal leaning album.
They had a great run, sounds like their fans grew with them. Good luck to them, in their future endeavors.
In Latin, sum means "to be". So Sum 41 means to be 41. Apparently, when the band reached their final form, they accomplished their mission
Sum 41 was the band that got me into pop punk after hearing Fat Lip when it came out. Many fond memories of riding my Mongoose Hoop D around town with All Killer No Filler playing in a portable CD player. Life was good.
Well, at least we can still appreciate all the amazing music they've given us
