    I genuinely like Bad Omens.
    I was recently waiting in line at a concert and I started talking to this guy next to me in line, he said that he doesn’t like how “anti-god” Bad Omens are. I responded: “funny, that’s one of the reasons I was attracted to the band.”. I don’t understand listening to rock and metal and being shocked when you find out that there’s a lot of blasphemy and anti-god subject matter, like in the BMTH situation, you have these supposed fans of the band who are outraged about the concert flyer that read “if Jesus comes back we’ll kill the the fu***r twice” or whatever it said. Why is that where they drew the line in the sand? Lmao
    Imagine calling yourself a fan without even knowing what the band is writing about.

    • @holyviolence777
      @holyviolence777 7 місяців тому +3

      and he’s as valid for not liking it as you are for liking it. sure it’s more common in metal but that doesn’t mean that everyone is gonna like or even relate to those darker lyrical themes. and it’s not to say you’re wrong for liking them either. it’s just all the same. just because somebody likes how a band sounds doesn’t mean they have to be on board with the lyrical subject matter. “drawing the line” is personal and comes down to preference. there’s no right or wrong place to do it.

    • @holyviolence777
      @holyviolence777 7 місяців тому +1

      a lot of metal fans don’t care about lyrics either. i honestly don’t as much. but for people that do and want to listen to something they relate to lyrically i don’t see an issue with that. let’s be honest as badass as they are, a lot of deathcore bands for example don’t have relatable lyrics and i can see that being a turnoff even if someone happens to like the riffs. and that’s kinda what you’re running into here

    I do think there has been a rise in wokeness in the rock/metal scene and I do find it pretty annoying when these people feel a need to be like “Reminder that racism is bad!” “Reminder that trans rights are human rights!” because it’s like “Yes dear, we know.” But I also think it’s a waste of energy to care about people doing that because I’m just sick of politics no matter what, and it gets in the way of why it is that we enjoy art. It doesn’t matter who’s worse or who’s more annoying and I also think it’s a waste of time to argue about that.

    At this point in life - I'm 35 - I listen to artists based on if I like them or not. I dont care about their politics, their social media, that they've been accused of, if they are supposedly a "fascist" or some woke activist. I care about how they sound and how it makes ME feel when I listen to it.
    I've got 3 young kids, a high mortgage payment, and I probably have to get a second job to help actually save some money for future expenses. When I listen to music, I am NOT worrying about what other people say about them.
    One of the best things in life is learning this lesson: Dont have any shame or guilt for enjoying the music and media you do. IF people bring up the fact its "questionable, problematic, woke, or whatever ist or ism", you simply say, "I dont care or give a shit." IF they make a huge deal about that and suddenly dont want to hang out with you or be your "friend", good riddance. You dont have time for that shit or want it in your life. Misery loves its company. Shun those people like the plague and let them wallow in the sludge together.
    Life is short. Enjoy it.

    If we are going by the definition of "woke" before it became Republicans' new version of the Red Scare, it used to simply mean you are aware of and care about social issues around us. And when combining that term with music, some are fools to think that music was ever not "woke". Go back to Billie Holliday daring to sing about lynchings, or the entire late 60s. Half of early punk was talking about foreign wars or criticizing Reagan. Some folks with a lack of listening/reading comp did not label RATM as "woke" until they somehow realized after 30 years that they were not singing about the GOP taking the power back. Half of Metallica's big hits could be accused of being "woke" by questioning the goals of war and the horrible pain and loss it causes("For Whom the Bell Tolls" or "One"), or discussing the crippling grip of addiction( "Master of Puppets") or growing up in the indoctrination of religious fundamentalists("The Unforgiven").

    The words people are looking for are feminist, marxist and communist. As for Tate McRae... she's a Britney rehash. Not my cup of tea, it sounds like what I listened to in the 90s when I didn't even like rock music when I was a pre-teen. This is a problem I've realised I've had when I started watching your channel in 2018: it was a nostalgia binge. Now, I don’t even care so much for what I used to listen to. I think this is the difference between Americans and Europeans: Americans live in the here and now (Iced Earth being an exception) and Europeans commemorate history and national lore. There's a strong stream of metal bands emerging over in Europe.
    It boils down to this: rock, jazz and metal bands and classical/folk orchestras are a gathering of acquaintances who play music as a group. They negotiate their differences and create work together. Aside from the usual criticism of pop and rap, barely anyone complains those artists are usually solo singers full of narcissism. They also like to disrespect and engage in sportsball style trash talk. It's music for small minded individuals. It sums up the decline of modern society, the whole me me me mentality of people wearing scantily clad clothing and taking on bogus pronouns. It's automised individualism on steroids. As a whole, there are very few solo artists I have ever liked (and they usually have a guitar playing if I like their music).
    Your channel is interesting in showing how America used to have communities of people doing activities together (such playing in a band together), but recent American music is full of solipsistic singers and rappers chasing success for themselves. It's just them and a beat machine. Boring, uninspiring music that's being rehashed endlessly on the radio for 30 years. It's not new and a lot of it is highly misandrist. Considering you have a son, you should seriously acknowledge that.
    And as for your belief that metalheads are unhappy people at heart, that's your experience in hardcore influenced music. Not power, symphonic and classic metal, where most of them don't take themselves seriously. Stop acting as a spokesman for metal because you act like there's nothing with pop and rap music when there's plenty wrong with it. It's practically mind control and represents a worship of oneself and personality disorders.

I'm sure there's many new bands within these categories and you probably already know more of them than I do. You could talk about new scenes, explain them, do some research about them, maybe an interesting scene from another country. It would bring some freshness definitely.

    Woke means different things depending on what you want it to mean. It’s always meant that you don’t accept the status quo which used to be racism, homophobia transphobia, sexism, etc. Now conservative extremists use woke to describe liberal extremists.. if someone calls you woke now they just mean that they are racist and homophobic, trans phobic probably religious so on. I collect firearms, fish/hunt, train fighters and my morality is relatively conservative for modern society but I’ll always be considered woke because I don’t hate people based on race, religion, sexuality, gender etc. None of those things determine whether or not you are a good person so I refuse to judge people for them.

    I think you should make one video for your main channel that covers whatever it is that you find yourself most wanting to talk about lately. Like you mentioned in the video, the last time you made videos about something other than late 90s to 2010s guitar music was 4-5 years ago. Trying again now might give you a chance to rekindle some passion or excitement in making videos for your main channel. It also might be received differently now than it was back then. Or you'll get the same response, but you won't know unless you give it a shot. Personally, I was always a huge fan any videos you made that covered new music from all genres. It's too easy to just keep going to the "fans also like" section on Spotify for new music, and just getting fed the same sound over and over. Your videos covering new music were a great way to for me to get recommendations outside of the Spotify algorithm.
